Can’t believe I’m asking this on mumsnet but...am lying in a local hospital bed, waters have broken, not yet in labour but cervix open a bit...local hospital have been trying for 2 hrs to find me a bed in a neonatal unit...they have found one at St Thomas’s but waiting to hear whether there is a bed for me. They have told me I might then have to wait another 2 hrs for an ambulance to transfer me. Has anyone ever used a private ambulance service? Any advice as to what I should be asking for / demanding? I am conscious that I could go into labour at any minute and at that point it will be touch and go for the baby who will need a neonatal bed. They have given me steroids / antibiotics etc.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Congratulations on the birth of your son OP Flowers Your baby is in safe hands and I wish him an uneventful stay in NICU.

A friend of mine gave birth at 24+0 and has a happy and healthy thriving 6 month old baby girl. Modern science is amazing these days in regards to assisting extreme preemies x

As @mamahanji says do ask about the octopuses. If you have any issues let us know here as it wouldn’t take long to make one up - probably longer to ship it to you from the Netherlands!

Congratulations lolacola and your family - you got the steroids in and to a hospital with a level 3 cot - those were the vital bits and you absolutely did that.
It sounds like he was in great condition for one so early. I hope you recover well and wish him all the healing luck in the world.
