25 weeks waters broken - help

Can’t believe I’m asking this on mumsnet but...am lying in a local hospital bed, waters have broken, not yet in labour but cervix open a bit...local hospital have been trying for 2 hrs to find me a bed in a neonatal unit...they have found one at St Thomas’s but waiting to hear whether there is a bed for me. They have told me I might then have to wait another 2 hrs for an ambulance to transfer me. Has anyone ever used a private ambulance service? Any advice as to what I should be asking for / demanding? I am conscious that I could go into labour at any minute and at that point it will be touch and go for the baby who will need a neonatal bed. They have given me steroids / antibiotics etc.

Congratulations on your beautiful boy. If you PM me when you have a moment I can try and add you to the Parents of Preemies FB group. It will be an invaluable source of support from lots of women who have been down the same path.

Also do ask if you have any questions. I have been through this so recently. The first few days are so overwhelming. If there is anything you want to know just ask.

Thought we needed a strong name after this! Thank you for the FB link, I will definitely join when I’m a bit stronger. Docs mentioned the octopus, I will chase that up...also, need to think of a plan for dcs, was thinking I might get them to make a video every day for him as they won’t be able to visit during the winter...will be v surreal for them!

Congratulations OP on your beautiful baby boy! You sound so strong (even though I can imagine you don't feel it right now). Will be thinking of you and your little boy. So many wonderful stories or premie babies bring big boisterous children now. Keep that in mind. Flowers

Alicekeach · 13/11/2017 12:51

Congratulations! One of my preemies came out crying and I was told it was a good sign (and it was!). Enjoy your early days with Alexander, even though they won’t be quite how you expected.

LuchiMangsho · 13/11/2017 12:57

My older son couldn't visit for 69 days. He would make little videos of big brother talking which we would play for him. They can make pictures which they will stick to the incubator.
