I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Most of us are on ondansetron actually, some on higher doses than others. Good to hear that it's made a difference to you already though

DeadDoorpost · 11/11/2017 00:48

Oh, and totally ignore anyone who says about ginger in any form. Trust us all. It's the worst thing to vomit back up and it actually does nothing to help sickness during pregnancy. Outside yes but during... nope. Can't say on the peppermint tea though. I'm not a fan of it as it is.

Gennz18 · 11/11/2017 00:56

Thanks Dead, I can't believe I didn't know about it. I don't consider myself HG but last time I vomited bile every morning from 8 weeks til the baby arrived, with hardcore nausea til 20 weeks - so when the vomming set in at 6 weeks I was feeling the Doom.

Tried the peppermint tea yesterday and I don't think I'll ever drink it again, nothing like experiencing it coming back up to put you of off for life 😷

DeadDoorpost · 11/11/2017 01:00

We've all been there with different things don't worry 😂 mine was cola or anything with liquid in until I was 13 weeks. I lost 35lbs/16kg in 7 weeks.
Foods to also avoid: peppers. Bread. Ginger biscuits 😠

Foods to try: mango, apricot, peaches, melon, crisps as long as you nibble them, and possibly Apple but again nibble it because it'll scratch your throat on the way back up. And grapes could be good as well.
Mango seems to be one that a lot of us can cope with.

Gennz18 · 11/11/2017 01:03

My issue is that last time I was so nauseous I just constantly ate white bread only, basically. I put on 10kg in the first trimester (which contributed to awful SPD in the last trimester).

I remember asking my ob if that was ok at about 20 weeks and he said "well put it this way - the foetus is no more than 900 grams" 🐷😂😳 Arsehole! Maybe he should have thought to prescribe me some meds!!

Mustang27 · 11/11/2017 01:49

Gennz my first pregnancy was nearly 4st gain and the consultant was this skinny blonde woman and she was like “are you sure you are as sick as you say you are” I literally sobbed my heart out for 3 days. It was bloody awful.

@BlueButTrue how’s the contractions now?

Mustang27 · 11/11/2017 01:50

Oh Dead I had an episode with grapes the other day it was bad Sad

DeadDoorpost · 11/11/2017 02:18

Mustang grapes. Ugh. They taste nice but they can be a tricky one. I've had good and bad experiences with them.
I've had some more plug come away after dtd again. DH said it felt like he was being blocked so I'm assuming that's the cervix. I dunno, I feel kinda weird. Like my downstairs area is a bit looser and so is my stomach. Don't really know how to describe it properly. BabyDoor still moving around as usual at stupid o'clock. And I'm feeling hungry but CBA to get out of bed and get food.

Mustang27 · 11/11/2017 02:49

That’s the problem with hg and pregnancy insomnia “is it worth the Nausea” I have to toss up hunger pains and sickness lol. I stupidly ate some raw onions in my salad with dinner and all I can taste is what I imagine is what a sweaty truckers underarms would taste like. Then mini mini mustang lol likes to keep me up by jamming a foot right right under my ribs, the swine.

You are getting there I’m sure of it. The waiting is worst part I never knew I was in labour my oh forced me up to hospital and I was 4cm dilated last time so il just wait on him telling me again lol.,

I’m impressed with all the sexy time you ladies have I swear I need to hide this thread from him or he will feel super hard done by. Oh and telly your Dh to get used to it, mines calls mini a “cock block” all the time lol. He has taken to saying “get away daddy” whenever oh tries to even get a hug from me lol.

Grapes are awesome and the ASDA ones iv been getting at the mo are so crisp and sweet but obviously I need to chew a lot more.

The thing I remember about the difference between BH and real contractions is that bh were an all over tightness for me but the real deal start at the top of my uterus and felt more like a wave. Best explanation iv got. Can’t really remember my show at all Blush.

DeadDoorpost · 11/11/2017 04:19

I dont think ive had any tightenings as I've stopped walking to places and that's the only time I got them.
To be fair the sexy times was to see if my mum was right about kickstrting labour. I can confirm it's utter bs for me 😂 maybe I should try the curry next...
BabyDoor seems to maybe have moves but I can't tell where exactly but it feels like a bum in my ribs so as long as thats what it is then im fine.
I reckon I could go this weekend though. I wouldn't be surprised if I do. And I have a midwife appointment on Sunday so if my waters go during that itd be perfect timing 😂

Natsku · 11/11/2017 08:59

Dead that woman on the Christmas present thread was so weird, who practices opening presents and scripts out how to respond??!!

I've gained 8kg so far this pregnancy (29 weeks today), after losing a few at the beginning, and the doctor said rather smugly "Well it seems like your sickness hasn't stopped you gaining well" - yeah, because of the medicine, if you don't prescribe more then I'm not going to be able to eat!

Horrid night last night, have a terrible cold which makes things worse and then lots of acid coming up my throat through the night and several vomiting sessions (plus wet myself and had to change my pyjamas). Now I've got a nasty cough which really hurts because my throat is burnt from the acid, bit of a struggle to breathe because of the cold plus my asthma (and can't breathe in deeply enough to take my inhaler effectively) and OH is thinking I ought to be in the hospital but he has to work today so I need to stay home with DD (who is also ill, and still asleep even though its 11 o'clock here!)

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 11/11/2017 09:17

Sorry you lot are suffering. I have to say though I'm slightly heartened by the fact some of you have had decent weight gain. I'm gaining 1lb per week of pg, which is waaaay over recommended guidelines.

Lots of beige salty things and sweets really helps my nausea, and now that I'm properly medicated I don't throw them back up againBlush

I put on 3.5st with DD1 and that was with severe NVP. Reckon I'll be 4st with this one 🐳

I'm hoping I can breastfeed it off again!!!

Gennz I was funny about Ondansetron at first and now I'm all GIVE ME THE DRUGS to me GP every week. Anyone else only prescribed it on a weekly basis? There are some risks but they're small and they outweigh the risks to you and baby if you become severely dehydrated

Shehz21 · 11/11/2017 09:25

Emu you are a Star for that post!
Your writing is a gift, a blessing to other mothers out there suffering and it might even help those who don't understand nothing about HG get some more insight into our world.
Most of the people around me don't understand, even my MIL who herself suffered from HG with my DH doesn't understand the severity of it. My only RL support are my DH and DM and I am so thankful for them as much as I am thankful for you ladies. I feel horrible for those who do not get enough support in RL. I hope they all find us or other great support groups. Thank you again for this blog.

Natsku · 11/11/2017 09:28

I put on 15kg when I was pregnant with DD Batman it was all in my belly (looked huuuge) and nearly all of it went after I gave birth, and was back to my normal weight two weeks after, not sure even breastfeeding can be thanked for that so I think the weight was mostly all the water and whatnot. I'm hoping it's the same this time!

Shehz21 · 11/11/2017 09:59

I am 21 weeks and put on 6kg already! Blush
My weight is not only in my belly though, it's especially in my hips and my thighs!

Oh with regards to sexy time, it only happened twice and I was basically just lying down there. My libido has gone down since I got pregnant and I am quite sure it will stay this way until I deliver.

Emu31 · 11/11/2017 10:00

Oh thank you Shehz for such kind words, really does mean a lot.

I'm quite relieved to hear you all talk about gaining weight, I've gained quite a lot and was somehow feeling a bit of a fraud for that thinking of all the ladies who go through this and lose so much weight. As I'm not throwing up as much now I'm just eating all the crisps and all the sugar and the weight is piling on. I also feel like I'm walking around with three water mellons strapped to my front with the huge swollen boobs and bump (and this is only week 25)!

blue I am wondering how you are getting on (sorry if you've said and I've missed it, sometimes I can't keep up). I hope you are ok as it sounded nasty with those contractions. Thinking of you.

Feel like I don't have any motivation today. Woke up feeling nauseous and haven't moved yet from bed. Thinking of the mental list of things that need to be done in the house but no energy to move.

Natsku · 11/11/2017 10:03

There's definitely some weight gone to my thighs and hips this time but I'm trying to ignore that Grin I guess it doesn't help that I can't walk much because of the hip pain so I'm not getting any exercise, last time I was walking everywhere up until giving birth.

My throat is on fire :( I can't stand the taste of honey so can't even use the honey and lemon trick for sore throats

LucindaE · 11/11/2017 10:23

Genz18 Welcome back. I am so glad that Ondansetron worked so well for you! It is used far more now than it was three years ago, because I believe the price has fallen, though it is still high compared to other anti nausea drugs. The constipation is inevitable, to the point that I think they ought to perscribe meds for it along with Ondanseton itself.
Lactulose is one, I'm not sure if you need a prescription for that; you can get those glycerine suppositories from Boots, but though they use them for pregnant women in hospital, they won't sell them to a pregnant woman. I personally find Febregel nauseating, but some manage to endure it! There are also dates and cocoanut and if you don't have heartburn, citrus fruits that really help and so on. Some find the famous tinned fruit helps with it, too.
DeadDoorPost Silly me! Thank you for pointing that out. Now you are second on the list. I thought I had deleted PutPut Fancy me leaving her on, when I saw her lovely photo of her angel and contratulated her a few pages back. I was so concentrated on making sure I didn't upset the women who have had losses by leaving them on that I left her on instead.

Mustang and others, it seems to me that a woman who manages to put on weight with Hypermesis is to be congratulated! I was told off about losing weight, as others have been. You can't win!

Shehz21 · 11/11/2017 10:31

Natsku Another one here who can't stand the taste of honey. But it soothes my sore throat from acidic vomit so much that I risk taking it despite knowing the onset of nausea it can bring me personally.

Emu31 I dnt see you on the due dates list. When is your due date?

Emu31 · 11/11/2017 10:36

Thanks Shehz, I'm due 22nd Feb. It's getting closer!

DeadDoorpost · 11/11/2017 13:12

natsku yeah it could almost have been my mum writing that post had she not mentioned the ages etc. I snet it to my dad who was so weirded out by it lol. The responses had me in tears though. Definitely amused me and DH. Sorry to hear you had a rough night and hope you get some respite today.

Im just going to do a stealth brag and say that while I've put on 29lbs/13kg over the Pregnancy, that's still less than the amount I lost due to the HG so I'm technically at a loss 😉😉 I'm looking forward to having a lighter postpartum body. Even if my stomach may be saggy for a while.

BlueButTrue · 11/11/2017 13:14

Well I’m the biggest fraud ever!

Woke up this morning with constant period pain again (still have it now), but the ‘contractions’ have disappeared! They were regular, lasting 60 seconds and going on every 10 minutes. I was timing them.

I’m so confused because I’ve always been told Braxton Hicks have no regularity/timing but those ones certainly did Hmm

Feeling fed up.

Natsku · 11/11/2017 13:14

Nice dead
I think last time I put on half the weight in the last month of pregnancy as I finally stopped being sick and suddenly got cravings for cake and biscuits (after eating mostly salad and fruit through the pregnancy). DD was over 4kg even though she had been predicted to be about 3kg!

Natsku · 11/11/2017 13:15

Oh dear Blue your body is being annoying!
