I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@DeadDoorpost I'm 31 weeks and have only put on 1kg so far after losing around 9kg to begin with. My appetite is terrible again. Back to vomiting most days. So tired, anaemic and absolutely sick of being pregnant. I have 22 work days left though.

Oklahoma · 11/11/2017 17:44

Blue it could be early labour or it could be irritable uterus both of which are very annoying. I’m the same as you. Have been having irregular but strong contractions since Wednesday and they’re driving me nuts, I wholeheartedly sympathise. Hang on in there xx

BlueButTrue · 11/11/2017 19:44

Oklahoma It’s so frustrating, isn’t it?!

These BH’s I’m getting are really sore too! I wasn’t warned about this. I’ve always been advised BH’s aren’t painful and they aren’t regular etc.

What a load of old shite Envy

Oklahoma · 11/11/2017 19:54

Blue they might not be BH, that was my point.

DeadDoorpost · 11/11/2017 21:23

blue I hope you get some sort of relief, either in the form of actual labour or the pain stops

Well, I had a lovely roast cooked for me today which was lovely. Only we got some bad family news which kind of ruined the day a bit. (Nothing overly bad but DH granddad has taken a turn for the worse so he's a bit upset at the moment)
BabyDoor did a major movement whilst waiting for the roast. We're talking full on shoving his butt into my side enough for me to be freaked out. It was weird and creepy and the only time I've felt like that. Hes still totally staying put for now.

thingymaboob · 11/11/2017 21:30

Is anyone taking cyclizine in third trimester?

BlueButTrue · 11/11/2017 21:31

Okla They were Sad

All gone now, apart from the odd horrible twinge every hour or so

Gennz18 · 11/11/2017 22:55

Today I woke up at 5.30 feeling queasy and took an ondansetron and have managed to get through the day so far without a vomit. Amazing. Feel a bit off but totally manageable. Is this a strategy I should stick with? I can't help feeling a bit guilty for taking meds, like I should really suffer through it? I'm not normally like this so maybe it's some sort of hormonal martyr syndrome kicking in?!

Gennz18 · 11/11/2017 22:57

My doc has only prescribed 20 so I wondered whether they were a desparate last resort only sort of thing (but perhaps that's the expense)?

Gennz18 · 11/11/2017 23:03

Also - sorry for spam! 😳 - thank you so much for all of your help, I know most of you are suffering more than I am. It's so helpful to talk to people who understand, as opposed to well- meaning friends "have you tried gingernuts?" 🔫😭

thingymaboob · 12/11/2017 00:01

I felt so guilty for taking ondansetron. I have gone full circle. I felt so guilty taking ondansetron and cyclizine when I started around 7 weeks, then I was so unwell I really would have sold my husband to feel better. Then I took them quite happily for ages (I quite possibly might have died without them as couldn't eat or drink ANYTHING) then got better at around 17 weeks, now worse again and need to take them again but feeling really guilty again at 31 weeks? Maybe because she's a big wriggly baby now. I tell you what, she goes CRAZY about 30 minutes after taking cyclizine!!

DeadDoorpost · 12/11/2017 01:02

I get prescribed 20 at a time too gennz so don't worry. You can always ask for a repeat prescription for them if your GP is happy for you to continue taking them. But Yeah, i take one in the morning and if I need another one later on take a second. Doesn't happen often but it makes a huge difference on the days I do need to.

Oklahoma · 12/11/2017 07:50

Gennz the only way I survive is by taking one early morning and going back to sleep for a bit so they can kick in. Please don’t feel guilty, pregnancy is hard enough without making yourself a martyr by suffering full blown Hg too

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 12/11/2017 09:06

I only get 20 ondansetron at a time. I thought it must be mega expensive but it's not really in the scheme of things. Way cheaper than an overnight in hospital on an IV! I just ask for more every week.

Someone asked about cyclazine in the third trimester - not yet with this pg but took it all the way through with DD1. Months after she was born I'd find half eaten packs of it squirrelled away in all my bags/coats. Love that stuff.

Expect to take it all the way through with this one too.

Emu31 · 12/11/2017 09:23

Gennz I totally get the guilt, I felt the same and tried to stop them a few times and got really poorly. If feel like you shouldn't feel guilty at all and definitely take them, but I know what it's like to doubt that and feel bad about it - my DH just thought I was completely mad for even worrying about it as all the evidence shows they are safe. I think there is something in us as women where we feel we should have to 'push on' and 'just get through it' because we do that with so many things, but with HG you can't and it needs proper treatment - that doesn't make you weak, and there are no prizes for suffering through it. Better to keep going with treatment now before you get really unwell, it's so much harder to come back to anything approaching wellness when it takes hold.

Oklahoma · 12/11/2017 09:24

And to whoever was asking about taking cyclizine in the third trim, I have taken promethazine (basically the same) throughout two pregnancies now and all the doctors are fine with it

justtheonethen · 12/11/2017 09:45

I think it's a waste of time feeling guilty about the drugs, the research shows they are safe. The research also shows how unsafe dehydration and malnutrition is for a baby so it's a no brainer for me. That said I would have terminated my (4 years trying and ivf) much wanted pregnancy if I couldn't get the HG under control so maybe I'm not the best gauge.

I've also had some really unhelpful and ill informed comments from doctors/friends/family about the tablets and I just throw the research back in their faces.

That said, are there any you can't take in the third trimester? Feel like I read that about metoclopromide but now can't find the research.

Had a weird dream last night where the baby was born super early and we only had one vest. Think my shopping urge is kicking in Grin

Too much to respond to so hugs all round! Especially those troopers at the end, it sounds like the symptom spotting I did when ttc but worse. Come on babies!

Shehz21 · 12/11/2017 10:15

Totally with you on the front of feelings re medecines in pregnancy justtheonethen.
I do really think it's useless to feel worried about it as there is so much research out there that prove that the medecines are there but above all that for me personally is the fact that so many women have been taking these meds for ages without any "problems". Sure some of the meds sometimes can make you dizzy or sleepy but I would much prefer that than leaving myself/baby malnourished.
However I might not be the best gauge as well as I have taken it upon myself to take avomine(promethazine) without being prescribed by my awful GP who only wanted me to have either metoclopromide or buccastem. He refused ondansetron stating there is not enough research about it yet (utter crap!) And said he would feel more comfortable with a consultant prescribing it than him.

Oklahama Did u take promethazine in the form of avomine/phenergan as well?

Hope everyone is having a good day today. Started my day by filling my sick bucket with acid vomit. The 18/20 week relapse goes on...

justtheonethen · 12/11/2017 10:34

Sorry for the relapse shehz, I had an awful night too Sad.
I am also taking avomine without a prescription, at night to help me sleep. We are naughty Wink.

BlueeSpottyTiger · 12/11/2017 11:17

Hello ladies! After my mmc at 12+5 in Sep I'm happy to say I'm pregnant again :)
Some of you may remember me. I had HG until about a month before my dd was born and with my last pregnancy i had HG up until the day before i miscarried even though baby had died 3 weeks earlier!?!? :(
So I'm pretty much waiting for it to start again. It normally kicks in around 5.5-6 weeks ish and im 4+4 now. There is only a 14% chances of not developing it in subsequent pregnancies and already suffering from it twice i know the odds are not in my favour. Hope your all doing as well as can be! Xx

justtheonethen · 12/11/2017 11:22

tiger Smile what lovely news that you're pregnant again, not that you're prepping for HG of course. Welcome back!

pippanippa · 12/11/2017 11:24

Gennz so glad the medicine worked for you, I hope it continues!! Emu, I just read your blog and it is such a perfect description of HG, really good to read.

Sorry to hear about the continued discomfort Blue, and the relapse Shehz, acid vomit is the worse, I hope today gets better.

Having a rubbish day here, low blood pressure / low blood sugar which of course isn't helped by throwing up quite a bit Sad. Have taken to the sofa for the day to put my feet up. Hope everyone else is having a good day.

pippanippa · 12/11/2017 11:25

Ooh sorry for the cross post tiger that's fantastic news, congratulations!!!

Oklahoma · 12/11/2017 11:38

Tiger congratulations - that’s lovely news. Fingers crossed for mild HG this time (I’m guessing no point hoping you’ll avoid it!).

She I have taken ondansetron and avomine throughout the pregnancy (in pretty high doses) and all fine

Natsku · 12/11/2017 11:42

Congrats on the pregnancy tiger fingers crossed it sticks and also that you don't suffer too much with HG

Following the information about meds in 3rd tri closely so I can argue with the doctor if she doesn't renew my doxylamine and insist on at least cyclizine or promethazine (can't get that over the counter here unfortunately though I have a few left I got in the UK last time I was there for travel sickness), I'd rather not go for the onandsetron as I don't think my haemorrhoids could handle constipation!
