I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@Hairgician look up the BBC recipe for carbonara. It's amazing and easy. Even hubby can do it!

Natsku · 04/10/2017 10:13

Yeah BBC recipe for carbonara is very easy to make. Think I might make that later this week actually!

LucindaE · 04/10/2017 11:40

Hairgician A good tip. Glad you've got an NCT class and physio for the SPD coming up, NonStopDisco.
I daren't ask about if baby Lemondrop09 is on the way. She must be heartily weary of that!

Hairgician · 04/10/2017 11:52

@Seizethecuttlefish - dp fine with plain things but even that recipe he would struggle with!! And don't get me started on the mess he makes lol! Actually can't be in the kitchen when he cooks! Manages to use every plate and dish in the house!

DeadDoorpost · 04/10/2017 11:53

hair my DH chest and gets a jar of the carbonara sauce to add to the pasta afterwards. Maybe you could start him with That? And it's funny coz my DH has wanted carbonara this week as well 😂

Lemondrop99 · 04/10/2017 14:58

So I was sent for a complementary therapy session today run by one of the local midwives. Acupressure, reflexology and aromatherapy. It was really good. I get to go back again in a few days if nothing has moved and can have acupuncture then if I want it.

Turns out the midwife has done studies into how complimentary therapies can help HG! It was sooooooo interesting talking to her. She was explaining that ginger comes from Chinese medicine and you are either Yin or Yang, and ginger only works for Yin. Further, almost all pregnant women are Yang and the baby is Yin, which is apparently why ginger almost never works for pregnancy sickness! And even if it was to be used, you'd need to work out a very specific dose for the individual, not just munching ginger biscuits.

Apparently there are recent studies that show complimentary therapies (in addition to medication) help reduce the length of hospitals stays by 1/3, and also had the biggest effect on reducing nausea.

She was horrified when I told her that a trainee midwife, at my 36 (!) week appointment suggested eating a biscuit before getting out of bed or ginger. She said she going to see about getting Pregnancy Sickness Support in to do a HG talk for the hospital's trainee midwives. She was so refreshing to talk to.

As you've provably guessed, no baby yet. Fingers crossed for the full moon tomorrow!

Hairgician · 04/10/2017 15:31

Dead I think I might just do that! Grin
Feeling grim today again with sickness. I've not moved from sofa today again. Have managed a couple loads of washing though.
Lemon that's really interesting!! She sounds like a star!!

Mustang27 · 04/10/2017 16:07

Iemon that sounds really interesting I’m quite keen on aromatherapy and homeopathy as treatments for things but I’m too chicken to try most of the things as my dr mil would be all like “what’s the risks”. Especially whilst pregnant. Iv had acupuncture before for a couple of things iv found it pretty helpful but not a miracle cure, unfortunately Sad. It’s refreshing to know there are people out there looking at other options though.

Had to go get baby monitored yesterday due to reduced movement they were ok though. I’m really struggling with the sickness again but I’m so sick of people saying “what do you think is up that it’s got worse again in last day or so” no no it’s been crap since about week 24 again I obviously don’t moan enough irl obviously but as we all know there is so little sympathy out there for us why bother.

Oh pippa you really don’t need the extra worry as others have said these scams can be so inaccurate. Why don’t you try Brazil nuts for extra calories, I love them and can easily munch my way through a pack If I was left to it.

Oh I could not do melon actually most the fruit but occasionally could tolerate strawberries but they won’t be so good now.

DeadDoorpost · 04/10/2017 16:14

hair I did mean cheats not chest ahahaha
lemon It must have been a huge breath if fresh air to have someone NOT suggest ginger like everyone else! Only acceptable way to talk about it by explaining it doesn't work. But it would make sense though.. ginger works for me when I'm not pregnant but doesn't when I am. That certainly interesting.

seizethecuttlefish · 04/10/2017 16:30

@Hairgician reminds me of my first DH. He used to cook like a cookery show with everything weighed out in separate dishes! We didn't have a dishwasher, used to drive me mad!

Mustang27 · 04/10/2017 16:43

Hair you could just buy smoked lard ons or pancetta , mince some garlic fry the lardons add some mushrooms too if you like them, until desired bacony texture add the garlic for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking then add cream and simmer gently for 5 minutes and stir through cooked pasta that you like. It’s not carbonara but I do that when I can’t be bothered with the faff. It’s pretty good. Could he manage that maybe? I put the above bacony creamy concoction over my fav veg and just have that for tea, my toddler loves it too.

Natsku · 04/10/2017 17:35

That sounds delicious over veggies Mustang stealing that for one dinner this week!

Mustang27 · 04/10/2017 18:07

It’s nice over roasted courgettes and peppers or broccoli or al dente Savoy cabbage or crunchy stir fried style veg lol. Any thing.

pippanippa · 04/10/2017 19:17

Ooh, all this talk of pasta has me craving it like mad, damned GD, although Mustang your putting it over veg sounds like a great plan! Sorry you had to go in for monitoring, so stressful - glad to hear that all was well though.

Hope everyone's had a good day. Thanks everyone for the reassurances, I know the scans are a bit notorious, I'm just having a wobble. Thanks for the idea about nuts Mustang I've just been starting to do that over the past couple of days and am trying to remind myself to snack constantly in general. I'm hoping nuts and avocados (wish they weren't so expensive!) are going to top up my calories a bit. Fortunately the last 2 days have been good sickness-wise, so I've been able to keep 3 pretty solid meals down as well as some snacks which is good and making me feel better and less guilty!

Hairgician · 04/10/2017 19:23

That sounds awesome Mustang but alas I'm afraid I'd end up taking over!!Grin def going to try it once fit for it again.

seizethecuttlefish · 04/10/2017 20:24

All this talk of food and I have no appetite, lol. Back at drs tomorrow as cyclizine is not helping and I'm throwing up everything. Going to ask for ondansetron but my poor gp seems clueless. He told me if the cyclizine didn't work he'd have to refer me as there is nothing else he can try. I could cry. Last pregnancy the first thing I took worked. This time, every hour is a battle. Add to that the sch bleeds and not sleeping and I'm not really sure what the point is. I throw up if I even sit up, so I'm spending most of my day in bed and my poor 4 yr old never sees me.

DeadDoorpost · 04/10/2017 20:29

cuttlefish when you speak to him take the NICE guidelines with you to show him. If he is then aware of them it might help him. Hopefully something will work soon for you, just so you can not feel guilty about your toddler

LucindaE · 04/10/2017 20:38

seizethecuttlefish Poor you; it is tiresome having to have a referral, and I had thought that they had to try at least two before they did that - but you will at least see a specialist.
Lemondrop Sorry no baby yet, but that complementary session sounds good at least. Interesting about the Chinese medicine approach. I was very lucky in that Acupuncture massively helped me, but that seems unusual, and as it is so expensive, I hesitate to recommend it. It seems to help most people only a bit. I do think that it may be that a millioneth of an inch makes a difference about targetting the area for the needles - it's never done any good for my migraines.
Waves to everyone.

Lemondrop99 · 04/10/2017 20:55

Lucinda, I had thought about trying acupuncture for HG but never did (mainly because I didn't have the energy to go anywhere!) I'll probably give the acupuncture a go if I need to see this midwife again. The complimentary therapy session was offered by my hospital, so on the NHS. The midwife is a trained acupuncturist and is offering it as an extra option for free, just out of her own curiosity. She says she's only treated 12 women so far, but all 12 have gone into labour within 24 hours!

Seize, take these with you tomorrow and stand your ground. Good luck! (And ask for something to help with the constipation - unfortunate side effect of the ondansetron Sad)

Hair I feel your pain my oh is utterly useless and I’m a control freak lol.

Good luck with the gp today seize. The guilt makes it so much worse.

Hairgician · 05/10/2017 08:52

Seize def ask for ondansetron. I am having to take it along with cyclizine. Alternated every 4 hrs. So far I've been ok, just the odd vomit first thing as they have wore off. Still feel really ill though. It's fucking crippling me tbh.
