I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ah, and Oklahoma and dillydollydarling How do you feel now?

OP posts:
Hairgician · 03/10/2017 10:52

Defo try melon or water melon slices. Even better when out of fridge and cold.

DeadDoorpost · 03/10/2017 11:59

I think I was the only one who couldn't stomach melon... I could cope with mango though.
NonStop I totally understand the going crazy at home. I've been by myself for the whole of it and have ended up several times on the phone to my mum or nan or sister for 2 hours at a time just so I didn't feel alone. Hopefully you find a way to help cope for those last few weeks.

Shehz21 · 03/10/2017 12:13

NonStopDisco totally empathize with you on the sickness returning with a vengeance.
I feel like my HG came back with an "AHA". it was so bad yesterday I cried myself to sleep.
Sorry about SPD though :(
Make the most of the rest before baby Disco gets here and know your light at the end of the tunnel is not so far. We are all cheering for you.
Netflix or call friends home maybe?
I find internet my main savior in my lonely hours since when nausea strikes,I don't even want to open my mouth to talk.
DeadDoorpost I couldn't bear the taste of melon as well.. doing well with grapes actually.
Hoping baby Door moves into the right position so you can avoid C sec. I too am hoping to avoid C sec at any cost.

Williams2 really sorry to hear you're feeling so rough. You're absolutely not weak at all. This struggle is real, and you've got the added anxiety of having experienced a previous MC. Be kind to yourself Flowers

I'm NHS too, although I'm more in senior management now rather than a clinical role. Finding it hard enough as it is without being on a ward for a shift. Honestly of I were you I'd get signed off.

I've had two weeks off sick (I'm 7 weeks) and am now working on a fit to work note. I took some HR advice last week as my boss is really difficult and I didn't want her to know. HR were fabulous and advised that a fit note would be helpful as it can outline exactly what I need to return to work. In my case, flexibility around shift pattern and working from home where possible. It's been a huge help, so I'd recommend to anyone who is struggling with work.

I'm also on cyclazine and have just come off prochloperazine but I may go back on it as I feel way worse. I just want to be sick aaaaaaallllllllll the time.

Quite fancy some melon now though, May try and drag myself to the shop.

Keep going sisters Cake

I have a question and you ladies are the experts... I was prescribed ondansetron today. However I was in part prescribed it because of my last pregnancy, and other drugs not being effective . I was pretty ill yesterday and it looked exactly like my last pregnancy, only I'm much better today and feeling like a fraud! Nausea only mild, I haven't been sick (I'm on cyclizine but that didn't help yesterday) and I have eaten an actual piece of toast which was out of the question this stage last time. I want to take as little ondansetron as possible, but am at a critical stage with work the next couple of weeks. Wwud? Try one a day that I'm working IF I feel bad? I'll take half tablets only. Thanks for listening.

timeisnotaline · 03/10/2017 16:01

*reading obviously 🙄

NerNerNerNerNerNerNerNerBATMAN · 03/10/2017 16:08

Sorry you're feeling so ill again, it's really difficult to balance it all with work. Here is a link to some public health guidance on ondenastron in pregnancy:

www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/Medicine--pregnancy/Ondansetron/

For me, I'd weigh up how I was feeling with the risks, which to me look pretty low. That said, it may be more beneficial to pull back a bit from work if that's at all feasible? I stopped taking prochloperazine when I started to feel better and I regret it now. Sometimes it's better to stick with the drugs!!

timeisnotaline · 03/10/2017 16:26

Thanks, I think I'll try to take it for the next few weeks then maybe I can ease off.

DeadDoorpost · 03/10/2017 16:42

timeisnotaline I've tried taking it one day at a time which certainly sounds like a good idea if you can cope with it. Sadly if I come off of them I can't keep anything down. So my plans went out the window 😂 hopefully you'll have better luck than me.

seizethecuttlefish · 03/10/2017 17:08

Sorry to hog the board but need some advice. Day 2 of cyclizine 50mg, 3 times a day. I'm not vomiting as much and the retching constantly is gone but I just don't feel right. I can't explain it. I'm not hungry but I try and eat little and often but I feel like the food is just sitting in my stomach. I have a headache (which may be because I've been drinking only water since Friday and I usually have a few cups of tea a day). I can't sleep and last night I felt dizzy lying down. Anyone had similar?

thingymaboob · 03/10/2017 17:22

@seizethecuttlefish hi, cyclizine sometimes takes a while to work. I found I always felt better the day after taking it. However, I also didn't find it terribly effective and it just made me drowsy. It also tastes awful. It's such a pain in the arse, but if it's not agreeing with you, you need to go back to GP.

thingymaboob · 03/10/2017 17:25

@timeisnotaline I would take it! It was a blessing!

dillydollydarling · 03/10/2017 19:06

So the doctor has decided to try ondansetron suppositories but if that doesn't work, stemetil injections. It's been less than 24 hours and I feel awful already! I really don't want these injections but I fear it may be my best option :(

pippanippa · 03/10/2017 19:09

Nonstopdisco hope you are able to start enjoying maternity leave soon - I watched non stop boxsets whilst doing a daft craft project to while away the hours (that and scrubbing the kitchen floor, probably not recommended with SPD!). Hope Oklahoma is feeling better and hope the good days continue timeisnotaline. Sorry, I know I'll probably have missed lots of posts.

Thanks for all the kind words yesterday. Today I'm feeling pretty self-indulgently sorry for myself again (sorry in advance), can't stop worrying about what happens next if baby doesn't grow - it was right on the borderline of the 'growth restricted' category. I know logically it's stupid but I have a horrible sense of guilt, I really am trying to eat enough, but it just never seems to be enough. Wish I could just curl up in bed for a bit, I'm tired of getting bad news at every appointment recently. Anyway, off to munch on some peanuts (ugh, thanks GD) to try and get a bit of extra nutrition in.

pippanippa · 03/10/2017 19:10

Oops, cross post dilly, sorry you're feeling awful, I hope the suppositories start to help soon and it doesn't get worse, can you start the injections soon if not?

dillydollydarling · 03/10/2017 19:23

pippa hope everything goes well at your next scan. Growth scans can be hugely innacurate so hopefully all is okay.

They're planning to give the suppositories a few days but if no better I think I'll be on the injections by the end of the week. At least I have been signed off work for 2 weeks which helps. Although with having a 2 year old to look after I don't get much rest, especially while OH is at work!

LucindaE · 03/10/2017 20:51

Welcome to timeisnotaline (What I always say; time is circular, not linear!). Sorry you feel bad. The doctor wouldn't have prescribed Ondansetron unless s/he thought you were so ill you needed them, so do take them. But constipation is a horrible side effect, so do get something in readiness for that. Drinks and solids that women on here have found helpful; flat full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies, ice cubes, soda water, Dr Pepper, Lucoazade sips of cholocate milkshake Imaybe soya], fizzy orange, orange juice, Elderflower water, jelly, the famous slices of iced melon (maybe pulverised and frozen in cubes as one woman on another thread did), cuppa soup, jelly and cheap ice cream. You are most certainly not a fraud! It is good the drugs are working today. I wish they could help everyone - reactions are so individual.
NonStopDisco Audio books might help to while away the time if you don't want to look at a screen?
Hairgician I so agree about melon!
NerBatman I am so glad there is some flexibiliy at work. Sorry your manager is so difficult.
pippasnippa As others say, growth scans can be so inaccurate. A number of women on here have been anxious about them, and found out later there wasn't really a problem . It's easy for me to say, but try not to get too anxious.
dillydollydarling I have heard that either form of medicaiton can really help. Taken that way, forgive me for asking - but will they cause the normal constipation problems or not because they by pass the stomach? Probably a silly question.
Shehz21 Oh dear, you made me smile about that, 'Aha!' like a stage villian in a pantomim, coming back on stage. Well, I suppose that is what Hyperemesis is.
Waves to everyone. Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

DeadDoorpost · 03/10/2017 21:06

cuttlefish I don't really remember what I was like with the cyclizine tablets oth3r than I knew when I was coming to the end of the 8 hours as I'd wake up and feel awful. I do remember feeling horribly sick though and that would cause problems with sleep. If you really can't stand them maybe ask your GP to try something else or something alongside them?

NonStopDisco · 03/10/2017 21:16

Thanks all for the support everyone-getting out to see friends tomorrow and got NCT classes, so hopefully will meet some people there as well. I’ve been referred for physio, but they haven’t come back to me with an appointment- that’s something to chase in the morning, it’s been over three weeks now! I’m just going to take it as it comes.
I’ll just add to everyone worrying about taking time off sick-I struggled in more often than I should have done (even though I had supportive management), and I wish I’d just taken more time off-I wasn’t even making it easier for my staff or the company because doing my job was such a struggle.
lemondrop I’ve just been back through the thread and seen that awesome nursery mural again! Bet you can’t wait now!

Hairgician · 03/10/2017 21:17

Right ladies, so I've been doing the flat coke and sprite with loads of ice this last few days, then blackcurrant squash. That also ran out today so asked sil to fetch me in orange squash this eve. Now we are really fussy about anything with sweeteners but I had found diluting juice that was literally just blackcurrant and also in orange. The orange one is fucking amazing with loads of ice!! Tastes like actual fresh squeezed orange!! Hoping the pic uploads. Bought in tescos.

NonStopDisco · 03/10/2017 22:11

Ooh, good shout Hair, just added this to my ocado shop!

DeadDoorpost · 04/10/2017 00:21

The only drink i seem to be able to stomach is orange squash... strong orange squash. I've got orange juice to have when I bother to take my iron tablets or eat a load of spinach etc but I just don't enjoy it when I usually love it.

I also saw on fb a giant pot of spaghetti Bolognese and now I want some... like a decent proper one not one I usually make. I'm so glad it's not a proper craving cos I think I'd be going mad by now 😂

Natsku · 04/10/2017 04:11

Quite fancy some fresh orange juice now but I bet it would play havoc with my stomach acid!
The one thing I'm really craving now is prawn cocktail crisps - wish my mum had sent some over for my birthday but postage is so expensive these days so can't blame her

Pippa growth scans seem to often be inaccurate, I had a lot of late scans when pregnant with DD because of my kidney issues and she was measuring on the small side always but she was well over 4kg when she came out.

Hairgician · 04/10/2017 08:05

NonStopDisco enjoy! Grin
DeadDoorpost if you like strong squash you will love this one!! So refreshing.
I've had a hankering for spaghetti carbonara this last week! No chance of dp being able to make it though. Bit too fancy for him to manage!
Natsku I love prawn cocktail crisps! Might have to get some in!
