I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Wishing you lots of energy and positivity lemon. Come on minilemon!

It's utter rubbish that your gp will only prescribe cyclizine seize. Others have linked to NICE guidelines but pregnancy sickness support will also be able to advise you/your GP. It is unlikely they will jump straight to ondansetron and will want you to try other medication first. Unfortunately there is nothing that will work for everyone and it is about finding a combination that leaves you able to keep yourself hydrated and functional. I haven't heard of anyone whose HG has completely gone with medication.

Sickness for me has ramped up again but I think that is linked to 3rd trimester insomnia. I'm back to my staples of white carbs and fizzy water. Have a growth scan on Saturday as my measurements have dropped, baby heifer is still kicking away like a pro though.

LucindaE · 05/10/2017 10:09

putputput I so agree about PSS as excellent at helping sufferers obtain effective meds - seize the number is as in the introductory post, 024 7638 2020. I seem to have stupidly lost the bit of text that says that they are Pregnancy Sickness Support.
Lemondrop Within 24 hours, all twelve? Cheering you on! How wonderful.

Good luck today Lemon !

Feeling rough as anything and mood has dropped something terrible. Had a bit of a cry last night but still don't feel better. Going to eat something and then just stay in bed I think. Don't fee like facing anyone or anything.

Shehz21 · 05/10/2017 11:14

Sorry you ladies having a rough time lately putput and DeadDoorpost.
Totally empathize :(

I'm the same as you DeadDoor just in bed, away from everything and everyone. Any news about baby Door moving into the right position?

putput argh that must be stressful but should be a relief that baby heifer is still very active. Is there nothing that can help with the insomnia which in turn can ease the sickness?

Gentle hugs to all suffering.

Shehz21 · 05/10/2017 11:16

Hairgician

How far along are you? Feeling really sick here too and nothing is working. Not even my medecines.
Thought being 16 weeks today would bring some sort of relief, couldn't have been more wrong... I feel like I am having a relapse into my first trimester nightmare.

DeadDoorpost · 05/10/2017 11:17

Shehz he's not moved loads today or yesterday but I'm not worried as he's had quite a few active days. He usually goes quiet after that. Only roblem with that is that I can no longer tell how he's laying at all... I feel like something is in my hip but I can't tell if it's his head or back or what. I'm just giving up for now until midwife appointment next week. Maybe she'll be able to tell.

seizethecuttlefish · 05/10/2017 12:30

Raise your hand if you're in bed. Yep, me too. I feel a fraud. Haven't been sick today but feel rotten and if I stand up I gag. I may be at my most attractive
@DeadDoorpost ds was in the wrong position and everyone said, when he moves you'll know. I didn't have the foggiest. My sisters a vet and it was her that told me he was in the right position. Mw couldn't figure it either.
Wishing everyone the best day they can. Dr at 3 for me. I'm going in armed with information. In large part, thanks to this amazing tribe!

Shehz21 · 05/10/2017 12:32

Aww hope you get some good news at your next MW appointment and can avoid C sec Dead

Can anyone help about couple of questions?
Is it normal to have extremely sore boobs still at 16 weeks? I'm ashamed to admit I have given up on bras altogether. My boobs are killing me.
Am i supposed to feel "flutterings" or movements of any type soon?

DeadDoorpost · 05/10/2017 13:41

Shehz I didn't feel any movements until 18 weeks but I do have a very anterior placenta (right by my belly button believe it or not) but some women do feel them earlier. Don't worry if you don't though. Some women take longer to fee them. And it could be a while longer again until movements can be felt outside. DH had to wait until 23 weeks to fee his first kick.
As for sore boobs, again everyone is different. Some women get them on and off from the looks of it. I had them for a week at 9 weeks and that was it. They've not grown, not been sore, but have occasionally ached if I've worn a bra for more than a few hours.
cuttlefish thanks. Yeah,I know he's got plenty of time to move as well he's just driving me crazy. The fact I can't tell what's what anymore is even worse. I don't see movements much on the outside now either so I can't even waste time doing that. He's gonna be a very frustrating baby I think. And good luck with your meds! Let us know how you get on!

Oklahoma · 05/10/2017 14:31

She everyone is different for boobs. Mine have been really sensitive and painful for the entire pregnancy so far but I can’t bear to not wear a bra (even at night) in case anything brushes against them. It isn’t something to worry about. Unfortunately there is no right answer with pregnancy everyone is different.

Mustang27 · 05/10/2017 14:36

Oh putputput my pregnancy thing is fizzy water I honestly drink a 2ltr bottle a day I’m. It sure how much I vomit up but it’s great.

Hugs Dead you really are at the last couple of hurdles, you can do it.

Haha loving your vet sister pipping the midwives. they kept telling me mini wasn’t in the right position even up until the day I went into labour (refused sweep due to it). I sometimes wonder if they know anything.

Seize I bet you look lovely, don’t feel bad about staying in bed.

Shehz you are always so lovely and supportive even though you are struggling so much too. Your posts always make me smile. (Not the ones where you say you feel utter shit) I’m not sadistic. Boobs are still sore at 29 weeks and no sign of colostrum yet for me. It depends really, do you ever get like a popping sensation feels like wind but it’s not that’s baby. You might not feel a for sure movement for a good few weeks though sorry.

Shehz21 · 05/10/2017 15:26

Aww Mustang your post made me tear up
-very hormonal pregnant woman here-
Thank you and I find you all ladies very helpful and amazing at how you are all coping. You give me the right motivation, exactly what I lacked in my first pregnancy...
Sore boobs at 29 week still Shock argh my DH finds it very amusing and keeps teasing me I should become the leader of 'Free the nipple' movement Envy
I do feel like I am very gassy but without .. uhm.. consequences Blush might be the baby?!

Oklahama I hear you about sensitive and painful boobs. This has been going on since before my BFP and just got to accept its another one of those pregnancy woes joys.

DeadDoorPost Thanks for the reassurance. My DH and MIL keep asking me daily if I can feel movement and it got me a bit worried really, thought I should be feeling something by now. But its adorable from DH as he is so desperate to feel LO and keeps whispering sweet nothings to my practically non existant belly.Smile

DeadDoorpost · 05/10/2017 15:45

Shehz that's adorable, my DH tend to tell at my stomach to see if he'll move 😂😂 not done so so far. But he does like to feel the movements when he can. He did it the other week when I was asleep apparently. Had half an hour with him kicking before he got up and did breakfast for me. Said it was nice to just be the two of them.

Natsku · 05/10/2017 16:46

Aww that's sweet Dead just the two of them hanging out while you slept.

My boobs were really sore and sensitive between 8ish weeks and 20 weeks and I couldn't bear to wear a bra much. They're ok now but instead my ribcage seems to hurt and again I can't bear to wear a bra much! Its a good thing I only have small ones so can get away without wearing a bra Grin

Oklahoma · 05/10/2017 17:21

Natsku I had a couple of weeks of awful rib pain around 26-28 weeks then it suddenly stopped. I asked the midwife and she said it’s the uterus pushing everything up so the rib cage has to expand. It happened with Oklette too. It really hurts, you have my sympathy. How far along are you now?

Natsku · 05/10/2017 17:26

24 weeks on Saturday. Uterus pushing up sounds about right, especially as I'm measuring big for my weeks.

NerNerNerNerNerNerNerNerBATMAN · 05/10/2017 17:56

Hello ladies, I would appreciate your collective wisdom/advice: I'm on cyclazine and prochloperazine which do help transform me from bed ridden to marginally functional with severe nausea. I've started dry retching/vomiting over the last couple of days, which is weird as it comes in waves rather than being constant. I do feel a bit better after I've been sick which is an odd bonus. Is this "normal"? It's so hard to function! I doubt GP would give me anything else as am not dehydrated or losing weight, but this is grim. Melon, oatcakes and fizzy water are doing the trick at least

Hairgician · 05/10/2017 18:07

Shezh I'm roughly 9.5 weeks. Having bad day today. Been sick after any food. Then am sat hugging the toilet crying cos I feel so shit. Managing to keep fluids in but switching to flat coke again.

Can't face anyone at the min, house is a tip.

seizethecuttlefish · 05/10/2017 18:33

@NerNerNerNerNerNerNerNerBATMAN I'm finding I'm dry retching constantly and on meds I seem fine for a bit and then end up throwing up for an hour. Don't know if meds can maybe become less effective. Maybe worth having a chat to gp. I've found that he couldn't really ignore me when I was dry heaving in his office!

Bunnyfluffy · 05/10/2017 18:54

Bad day here today. Vomiting started 3am.
Felt crap all morning. More time with head over loo this afternoon.
I'm meant to be 'working from home' but not getting much done, despite my best efforts.

What's the definition of having HG, as opposed to just regular pregnancy related sickness?

NerNerNerNerNerNerNerNerBATMAN · 05/10/2017 18:57

Thanks Sieze my GP has been great but I think going back is a wise idea. They mentioned last time that the next step was referral to hospital, not sure what that entails. Being honest, I'm starting to think that if I help the vomiting on a little then at least I'll get a bit of respite. And I can replenish the fluids and food, it's just not a very good idea to be sticking fingers down throat. Sorry if this is TMI, I'm not sure if admit this in RL. No history at all if disorders eating. Just VERY fed up of the nausea and retching

NerNerNerNerNerNerNerNerBATMAN · 05/10/2017 18:58

Sorry about all the Ner's, you can just call me BATMAN Grin

Ameliablue · 05/10/2017 19:17

Bunnyfluffy unfortunately I don't think there is a definition of when ms become HG. 12 years ago when I was pregnant with my first, they tended to only diagnose it when hospital admission was required. Nowadays there is more recognition of it and recommendations to treat earlier to avoid hospital admissions but unfortunately even this isn't universally accepted.
I would urge anyone who is struggling to cope with the level of sickness to keep going to the doctor's until they get the help they need.

LucindaE · 05/10/2017 19:50

Again, oh dear, suffering all round.
Bunnyfluffy I believe there used to be rigid definitions of Hyperemesis issued to GP's, ten percent of body weight lost etc (I remember my midwives arguing with me about my losing a stone because our scales were different) but now I think it is recognised that there is a huge grey area and bad MS can tip over into Hyperemesis. I think its accepted that if you can't lead a halfway normal life, then it is worse than ordinary MS and needs meds.

Sorry you've had an awful day.
Hairgicion Hopefully, with a referral, you'll get more effective meds.
I am glad soda water, oatcakes and melon is bearable. Never worry about tmi on here. If you are that nauseated, sticking fingers down your throat is not that unusual and has nothing to do with eating disorders.
Mustang I so agree that seize must look lovely. Glad fizzy water helps.
Oklahoma Seize and everyone, great support and advice from you as ever. Seize They do great maternity bras at Marks and Spencer and (for bigger cup sizes) Bravissimo, and it might also be a queston of needing a bigger cup size than you think. If you are in bed you can't exactly get measured, but it might be worth trying for a fuller cup size online as they will get bigger anyway.
NerNerBatman Much sympathy. It is very hard: you will get there.
Natsku I believe your ribs 'spring' and it can be quite painful.
DeadDoorPost I second Shehz's query about has baby moved position?
No frauds on here, that is for sure. You are all very brave. Apologies for anyone rudely overlooked.
