I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi BlueeSpottyTiger I believe we have quite a few current HG sufferers on baby number 2 or more! I'm currently TTC #2 myself and living in pre-emptive fear of feeling as rough as I did last time! I have read there's an 86% chance of getting HG in subsequent pregnancies so have cyclizine tablets and heavy duty sick bags at the ready! Can anyone else counter or update that depressing statistic?!

Tormundsbrow Sorry to hear you've been hospitalised already. Have you tried the Pregnancy Sickness Support helpline for advice on medication? 024 7638 2020 They were really helpful when I was struggling.

Lemondrop99 · 18/07/2017 14:20

Oh Blue! Really, you should go back in this thread and read some of the ondansetron constipation stories on here! Constipation has been discussed in great depth lol. Hope you're feeling better now. You can try lactulose and Fibregel to keep on top of it.

Tormundsbrow · 18/07/2017 14:24

Two drifters- not sure how to tag people properly, I shall give them a ring, thank you!

pippanippa · 18/07/2017 14:32

Welcome Blue and Tormundsbrow, sorry to hear you're both unwell. Unfortunately have to back up Weasledee and Twodrifters. I had bad sickness with pregnancy number one (never hospitalised but was ill throughout). I was told it would be 50/50 if it would happen again. I planned for the worst and unfortunately it's happened. Early medication was a lifesaver in first trimester and though I was sick plenty it really helped the all-day nausea. Unfortunately since then the sickness has been worse than the first pregnancy and I've ended up in hospital once so far. Hopefully this isn't the case for you though!!!

Oklahoma · 18/07/2017 17:27

Tiger yep second HG pregnancy here too. Seems to be just as bad so all I can offer is advice to go and get drugs early!

Blue ondansetron constipation is a very common discussion topic on this thread. Lots of lactulose to keep things soft and the occasional bisacodyl (dulcolax) suppository to get things moving when it's been a few days. It's not glamorous...

I'm 22 weeks today and still being sick. So, so fed up.

Natsku · 18/07/2017 19:23

Don't think my first was HG, was sick a lot but it wasn't as exhausting as this time and never needed fluids (and was never offered meds though I suspect that was due to the old fashioned no-nonsense midwife I had then)

On the journey home now - did the shorter leg today and was only sick once but have the longer leg ahead of me tomorrow. Thank god for audio books to keep me distracted!

BlueIsYou · 18/07/2017 19:26

Okla Is your due date the 21st November then? I'm due on the 17th of November Grin

Oklahoma · 18/07/2017 20:12

Yep 21 Nov. There are 5 or 6 of us due that week so maybe our due date is responsible for the HG!

BlueeSpottyTiger · 19/07/2017 03:25

Thanks for replying everyone Smile although it wasn't what i was hoping to hear 😣
I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens now. Sorry you are all so sick, it's truly awful. I hope you get some respite aoon xx

Daffodil397 · 19/07/2017 11:58

Yey for lots of wriggles from little blue! Hope he/she continues to enjoy his gymnastics. Glad you've got the day off. Stuff your manager! (Easy to say I know). But some people never get it and you do need more rest than normal or hg is just going to get worse. If your managers the type who's never suffered from more than a mild cold and feels proud that they have pushed through it with some aspirin you have my sympathy, unfortunately chronic illness doesn't work like that!!
bean bless you Flowers all I can say is I hope you have some help to get you through. We are also trying to put our flat on the market hopefully before baby comes, have managed to tidy a couple of things into drawers and that's it so far this week!
twodrifters and bluespotty - well maybe I can offer a little encouragement re pg no 2. Much less vomiting overall. Got meds in early. Nausea and tiredness galore (and have put on more weight than last time Angry) but I have been able to function better, less days off sick, just about care for dd1 etc. Hope that offers a bit of hope for you this time round! Xx
Tmi alert- me and dh dtd last night after I got a timely little burst of energy Smile then baby seemed to stop moving so I was straight on google trying to find out if I'd damaged him somehow... advice seemed to be that babies sometimes just get chilled out cos they enjoy the rocking motion Blush and pleased to say this morning he is sticking out his little elbows again and having a wriggle!
Wishing you all a restful day xxx

BlueeSpottyTiger · 19/07/2017 12:13

Thanks Daffodil :) im glad it's not as bad for you 2nd time round... I'll keep my fingers crossed x
I was lay awake in bed from 3.40am this morning feel so sick, then was sick at 7am managed to get an hours sleep until 8.40am. Had to call in work sick, and now im lay on the sofa! It's a good job dp is off today and i have help with my dd.

Lemondrop99 · 19/07/2017 12:24

Anyone tried to visit a dentist with HG? I'm booked in for a check up but feel so nauseous today. I can't imagine someone poking around in my mouth Confused. I can see me throwing up on the dentist

pippanippa · 19/07/2017 12:47

Lemon, haven't braved it this time round, but had to last time...twice....for fillings...Weirdly it didn't make me feel sick, but did make me feel very faint - I can't say it was pleasant, but it was incredibly hot at the time though. Make sure the dentist lets you lay slightly on one side, and you have a code for vomiting / fainting (e.g. raising your hand) so they can stop what they're doing in time Wink. Hope it goes well!

Lemondrop99 · 19/07/2017 13:07

A hand signal code is a good idea. I'm toying with cancelling as I've just throw up and have now gone to bed. But it's not till 6pm. Think I need to just suck it up and go. Sigh

1984FS · 19/07/2017 13:32

@Lemondrop99 I have been having orthodontic work done throughout my HG, and as much as I dread each appointment (even getting there), somehow the actual appointments have been fine. I've been having some horrid stuff done too, that makes me gag at the best of times. I think the adrenaline gets me through. Usually feel worse after though from all the worry and energy used. On a side note though, my orthodontists wife has had HG 3 times and he was amazingly understanding and told me to raise my hand if I need him to stop etc. Good luck x

DeadDoorpost · 19/07/2017 13:36

Just a quick drop in as I'm currently tidying and cleaning the flat with my mum's help before graduation tomorrow..
Lemon my mum says the same as pippa and give them a signal if you're feeling sick enough to throw up. And letting them know you're sick beforehand as well usually helps.

My stomach it feeling really tight right now. Baby not moving as much today but I did do an awful lot of walking round the Eden Project yesterday. Slightly regretting it but there we go.
And I've got to finish altering my dress for graduation. Luckily I can sit down for that.

Hope you're all feeling good or comfortable at least.

beanhunter · 19/07/2017 15:58

Managed the 50 mile drive to and from new house today to drop off cats and meet bosses at new job. Shattered now and managed to only vomit twice and not at all in the car (I'm def better driving than as a passenger) but pleased to be back in bed!

Toomanydogs · 19/07/2017 17:19

Out of hospital and had a whole day of no sickness, it's glorious! Still have zero energy and need to lay down all day really, but no ketones this lunchtime and BP back to normal, kept food down as well.
Hoping this continues, new drugs seem to be helping a lot, also had had a quick scan today to check its not twins (it's not), baby looks great and I've got my 'official' dating scan tomorrow Grin

Lemondrop99 · 19/07/2017 18:07

I cancelled the dentist. Feel rotten today and have gone to bed. Couldn't face walking there, even though they're just up the road. Sickness really seems to have ramped up again since 28 weeks

Melleebacca · 19/07/2017 18:50

Lemon - the sickness might have ramped up due to 3rd trimester exhaustion. I'm having a similar problem but with less vomiting. I'm exhausted and my nausea is worse but the last few days I haven't been able to sleep.
If you can hold off on the dentist till after baby is born, I recommend it.

BlueIsYou · 19/07/2017 19:03

Daffodil Thank you flower Flowers

Toomany So glad you're feeling more normal! Hoorah! Grin

Lemondrop Bless you, sod the dentist. If it's just routine then forget it. If you need to go, maybe a taxi next time?

Mustang27 · 19/07/2017 19:03

Sickness is unbearable again here 18 weeks plus iv constantly got a stinking headache and a cold sore outbreak thanks to being generally run down.

Yeah Lemon probably best to give dentist a miss unless you feel it's really necessary.

Good luck with graduation Dead.

On my second here too but it's worse so far and I was sick from week 6-42 during first. Think it's enhanced more by the fact that with a toddler there isn't much rest to be had 😖. What age is your other wee one spottytiger?

BlueIsYou · 19/07/2017 19:07

Feeling incredibly vulnerable and sad Sad

MIL made a comment to DH that I'm 'over exaggerating my sickness' and that I'm not that sick. She also claims baby is fine and that I don't need the medication the hospitals have put my on to strengthen him incase of preterm labour, nor are they helping him as apparently Drs only give you meds to help baby along when you're ready to pop.

I feel like pure poo and an absolute failure of a woman. I have taken this entire week off due to sheer exhaustion. I was in hospital on Monday and was advised to take things easier.

I've done that but I feel like I'm taking the piss. All this time off is making me feel guilty and it isn't going to help financially.

Physically, I just can't manage my work at the moment.

Honestly, I feel so ridiculous. I'm glad I'm not seeing MIL this weekend. One more comment and I'd have lost the plot.

Melleebacca · 19/07/2017 19:21

Blue - some people just don't get it. Be your own advocate and limit time with those that make you feel emotionally worse. Because I'm not vomiting anymore, everyone assumes that I'm well. But the nausea is killer, and I just put on a brave face when I have to.
My cousin is currently having a meltdown as I said I don't have the energy for houseguests in the next month, and she can visit when baby's here and I have energy again.
Good luck, and I hope hubby is supportive despite what his mother says!

LucindaE · 19/07/2017 19:22

Hello, everyone, Mother Hen is back. I see TwoDrifters has been doing a brilliant job. While I remember, I must wish DeadDoorPost a lovely graduation day. Welcome to Toomanydogs, SpottyBlueTiger and Tomandsbrow. You've already had great advice, about bearable liquids like flat coke, the juice of tinned fruit, and ice lollies, and obtaining effective meds and keostix and about the chances of suffering again.
The ketones thing seems to be so complicated. I heard from a doctor they are reliable indicators of deydration earlier on, but when malnutrition sets in - sounds awful, but is bound to, when eating so little and the babies do take what they need from you - that they then measure that, but that either way, they need to be kept down.
Blues That was very insensitive about MIL, too. It is hard for non sufferers to understand that you really aren't exaggerating. Did she say all this in front of you or did he report back? How infuriating. Lucky people who have never suffered from an afflication can be so judgemental, but you must n't let them bring you down. I am so glad that the baby is fine and that you sorted out the constipation. It was insensitive of that doctor to make out you were overdoing it out of thoughtlessness - your exhaustion is typical of Hyperemesis. Is it remotely possible that you could get a sick note for at least a couple of weeks even if boss is unsympathetic? Did you say your due date was 17-21 November?
beanhunter Daft fibre advice. I have known brave souls who have been able to stomach Fibregel while suffering. I find it nauseating anyway. Orange juice with bits in might be more bearable? Lactulose is often used on this thead.
27Harper If you are happy to tell us your due date - not everyone wants to - then we can put on the due dates list TWINS! Exciting.
Lemondrop I am sorry to hear that things have taken a turn for the worse. Never mind about the dentist if it isn't urgent.
1984fs You may have a point about adrenaline!
putputput Much sympathies over such a nasty rash.
