I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Blue that's so scary. Thinking of you and your wee one.

beanhunter · 17/07/2017 14:22

Glad all ok blue. Spoke to epau today who do fluids who don't want to know unless I have 3+ ketones. Which is fine except I've lost 6% of body weight so far and can't see how that's going to get better. But man the constipation sucks.

Natsku · 17/07/2017 14:38

Glad baby is OK, although jittery. Guess you need some extended rest now and hopefully all will be fine.

That really doesn't sound good bean what did they say about you losing 6% of your body weight? Would it be worthwhile going to your GP in case they could refer you for fluids? That's really terrible that they are only relying on ketones for admission and isn't best practice I'm sure.

Natsku · 17/07/2017 14:39

I'm still losing weight despite most food staying down which seems odd but its slowed down and has only been a few kilos overall

beanhunter · 17/07/2017 14:48

They just said that if I wasn't ketotic then I didn't need fluids. And then when I said about constipation told me to increase fibre in my diet. Not sure how I'm supposed to do that if I can't eat. Anyway so given ondansetron hasn't stopped me vomiting I'm having a day off in the hope my bowels start working. Either way I'm sick so it doesn't matter.
We move house this weekend so I'll be in a new area and seeing midwife 2 days after we move for booking so will see what happens then. Truth is I can afford the weight loss and bmi was 27 at conception so it's not like I'm skin and bones.

pippanippa · 17/07/2017 15:15

Bluels hope everything is ok and it's not too scary and sorry to hear of the continued bad spell bean, I hope constipation improves and you're able to keep more down soon.

A better day here, have managed lunch, a couple of biscuits and a sports drink so feel much more normal, yay!

Natsku · 17/07/2017 15:29

Fingers crossed the constipation eases bean and hopefully you'll get better care in the new area.

DeadDoorpost · 17/07/2017 17:12

Hey all, I'm not going to be around much over the next week due to my Dmother being here but I went out to town with her today and got a lovely dress for my graduation.

Blue hope you're feeling OK and that your baby gets monitored thoroughly. They're going to have to do the same for me as we have a history of heart problems on both sides of the family. I've got my fingers crossed for you that everything goes well. Rest up as much as you can.

bean hope you also get looked after soon as well. It sucks that not everyone gets amazing care. You must just be really unlucky with GPs and hospitals. Not good really.

Baby is moving around a lot for me. Only he also likes to stop for absolutely hours and worries me sometimes. I can tell when he's flipped over though. He doesn't move for a while after.

waves to everyone else. Hope you all manage to keep food and drinks down this week. I'll pop in and out where I can.

Toomanydogs · 17/07/2017 19:14

Hope it's okay to join here! I'm 11+6 and struggling. I'm sure others have it worse, but have been being sick since week 5 started just two or three times a day now it's closer to six or seven times and although I'm keeping some fluids down I am keeping maybe three ritz crackers/ cheddars down every day and getting worse rather than easing off. Doctor gave me drugs last week which aren't touching it so going to to back tomorrow to see if I can try anything different! Any tips for foods that you're able to keep down?

Melleebacca · 17/07/2017 19:20

Blue - glad to hear there's some positivity. Hopefully a good bit of rest will help bubba settle down.

Bean - you're going to need to be off ondansetron for a few days before the body helps with the constipation. I highly recommend lactulose syrup or laxxol tabs. The laxxol tabs are 2 before bed and make you much more regular. But they need to be on prescription, whereas you can just pick up lactulose from the pharmacy.

Haitch - I pretty much looked at the calendar, picked the most annoying date and have decided that's when baby will come - induction day.
Hope you get a date for you keys (and possible baby) soon.

Daffodil - jealous that you're getting so organized. My last houseguests before baby left on Sunday, so hoping to really start knuckling down with the nesting, but probably won't start till hubby leaves next week.

Surviving here, nausea is reduced a bit of I don't eat large servings. Pregnancy insomnia kicked in last night, couldn't get to sleep because of itchy foot and a yearning to sleep on my belly. 5w to go!

Melleebacca · 17/07/2017 19:23

Too many - welcome. Everyone is different. Foods I could eat changed almost daily. But carbs are pretty prevalent. Bread, chips, crisps. I also ate a lot of apricots in the first trimester. Try whatever sounds appealing and see how you go, but remember your stomach has shrunk, so don't eat too much in one go.

Daffodil397 · 17/07/2017 20:00

Hey blue thanks for the update, glad lo is ok and will continue to be monitored. Hope life allows for you to rest up and hopefully feel a bit more refreshed in the days coming up. Felt a bit annoyed on your behalf, love how drs sometimes manage to make things sound like your fault- saying you're doing too much, when I know that if you have hg you get ridiculously exhausted not doing much at all. And we all have to use a bit of energy just to exist, even if that's only legging it to the bathroom to puke some days!!! Anyway rant over lol Smile
too many welcome and wish you didn't have to join us if you know what I mean! Here's some random suggestions that helped me 1st time round: tinned peaches/juice, cola bottle sweets, ice lollies, crackers- but you've tried those. Both pregnancies I've craved full fat milk, but if it doesn't stay down it's not very nice to puke back up!! Hope you get a better mix of meds so you can keep more carbs and protein down and feel a bit stronger.
mellee good luck with the nesting, hope you have enough energy and a bit of help too to do what you want to do! To be honest Sunday consisted of me sitting on an upright chair like a dictator and offering 'helpful' suggestions while my lovely relatives fixed my botched attempt assembled some flatpack furniture and generally did all the work, bless them!
I get you with the insomnia and dreaming of sleeping or at least lying on your tummy for a bit! Not too much longer now.
bean you've got a lot going on! Hope the move goes well and that you get better care with the new midwife, sounds like at the moment they are not really getting how you are feeling. Hope your symptoms start to improve soon.
27harper congratulations on your twins! 3 under 2 there will never be a dull moment! Mine will be close in age too, it's going to be full on but I'm hoping the siblings can play together as they get older. While I sit back with a bar of cadburys dairy milk. Well that's the dream anyway.
My memory's gone, sure I've missed some people, sorry about that and hope everyone has as settled an evening as possible. Xxx

TwoDrifters · 17/07/2017 21:02

Welcome Toomanydogs I'm so sorry to hear you are suffering. This is truly the club that no one wants to be a member of…

There is so much fantastic and helpful information in Lucinda's introductory post. I'm going to try and quickly summarise!

She points out that these websites are invaluable:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
and
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

For help in obtaining medication, call: 024 7638 2020

And here are the NICE guidelines on treatment:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

Other useful suggestions: you may wish to purchase some ketostix. If you have a headache, blurry vision, dark urine, dry skin or feel confused, these could all be signs of dehydration (though I know you said you're keeping some fluids down).

Do please go to your GP for different medication, if what you were given isn't helping. There are so many variations you can try. Don't minimise how bad your sickness is; let them know!

If you can, then do take a good pregnancy multivitamin with iron; particularly if you are not getting any iron from your diet at the moment.

You've already been told some helpful items by Melleebacca and Daffodil397 but here's the usual list that some HG sufferers find helpful: flat full-sugar coke, ice lollies, ice cubes, tinned fruit and the juice thereof, Lucozade, elderflower water, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), slices of lemon, jelly or nibbles of crisps. Others swear by coconut milk, cuppa soup, orange juice or orange squash.

beanhunter Sorry to hear you're not being given the best of care. I hope your rest from meds proves helpful and the remaining of your packing goes smoothly!

Apologies to anyone I've missed or overlooked!

TwoDrifters · 17/07/2017 21:04

Oh and two of those links don't seem to have worked Angry sorry! But Lucinda's first post has them all!

Toomanydogs · 17/07/2017 21:39

Thank you much appreciated! Will give some of those a try in small amounts and see how I get on!

beanhunter · 18/07/2017 12:59

So kept dinner down last night (well a bit of mashed potato) and felt ok this am so decided to sort out a couple of drawers for packing. Literally not physical at all. And have just ended up vomiting for 10 mins straight. One step forwards. 2 back.

beanhunter · 18/07/2017 13:00

Ps is it normal to feel as weak as a kitten? I literally don't know how I'm going to walk the 400m to and from school at pick up time.

BlueIsYou · 18/07/2017 13:04

I'm overwhelmed by you lovely lot and messages of support Flowers

Baby is on the move today! He's very wriggly indeed. I'm so happy.

I've taken the day off of work. I feel so guilty but I need rest Sad

weasledee · 18/07/2017 13:05

What a relief Blue! Really pleased for you! And glad you've taken the day off Smile

BlueIsYou · 18/07/2017 13:06

Incredibly embarrassing, but has anyone here been so constipated that they've taken something for it?

I took something last night (was told it'd be fine during pregnancy), and if said on the bottle "Gentle relief, overnight".

Well I took it at 10 and I was up at 2am until 3.30 Blush

BlueIsYou · 18/07/2017 13:06

Thanks weasle!

Must admit I don't feel very relaxed, lots of work will be waiting for me upon my return Sad and a very Hmm manager to boot

TwoDrifters · 18/07/2017 13:24

Excellent news BlueIsYou that's brilliant! (The wriggly baby, not the constipation).

Please do take it easy beanhunter - is there anyone that could do the school run for you? Do any of the other mums walk past your door? Could they do a drop off?

BlueeSpottyTiger · 18/07/2017 13:25

Hello ladies, i don't have HG.. yet anyway.
I have awful sickness today. Not yet vomiting but heaving all day... feel awful and im only 5+2!
With my last pregnancy i had terrible HG and was sick near enough everyday all day until i was around 7/8 months... luckly i wasn't hospitalized but i was very close on alot of occasions due to dehydration.
What is the chances i could get it again.. is there any ladies on Dc #2 or more who have suffered more than once? I'm really nervous!! Xx

Tormundsbrow · 18/07/2017 13:31

Hi all, just looking for some advice. Currently 11w3d.

Struggling with sickness, was kept in hospital at weekend as they couldn't get my ketones down to less than 3+ after 4 bags of fluids. They've given me 2 types of medication, which I've been having since Saturday, they've eased it slightly but still not enough for me to go about my daily life, eat enough etc.

How long should I try the medication for before asking them for alternatives?

Thanks

weasledee · 18/07/2017 14:12

Bluespotty, hate to be the bearer of bad news but this is my 3rd pregnancy and 3rd HG. This bout started the earliest with "normal morning sickness" at 4+3 and kicked in at dead on 6 weeks.....
still suffering at 12 weeks but hopin for a change around 14 weeks
Congrats on your pregnancy and hopefully you won't have to join us! :)
