Can ongoing brown discharge have a happy ending? :(

I'm scared.

Im 6-7 weeks pregnant according to my last period.

I had light brown mucus and stains last week.
Yesterday I had watery brown just once on the tissue when I wiped.
Today I've had mucusy dark brown stringy discharge nearly every time I wipe and the odd 5p Sized brown mark in pad.
I have back pain but it could be due to long day at work
I'm so upset and can't chill out

Can this have a happy ending. . ?

Yes- me. Continuous Brown discharge from 5 weeks with a couple of very red much heavier bleeds. No cause was ever found and it carried on until 25 weeks. My lovely daughter is now almost 7 months and totally fine, as am I.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 30/03/2017 21:35

Was terrifying at the time though so thinking of you OP.

Tattybogle89 · 30/03/2017 21:35

Thank you fell.
Was it mucusy when you wiped and dark? Sorry tmi. Xx

Oh poor you OP, I remember the fear very well.

Just to say I had this with both my successful pregnancies - both at around the 6 week mark. I went for an early scan with the first one and the sonographer told me it's a very common time for further implantation so I really hope that's what's happening with you

I did have brown spotting with my early miscarriage at 5 weeks too I have to say, but in my case it quickly turned to red bleeding within the day.

Do you have a local EPU who could give you an early scan?

batch74 · 30/03/2017 21:39

Oh honey, my thoughts go out to you as I know what a horrible time this can be.
You need to contact your local early pregnancy ward and get checked out as soon as possible.
It really could mean something but then again it may be nothing.
I had bleeding like that before and suffered missed miscarriages but then I also had lots bleeding on my last pregnancy (from 5 weeks right through to 12 weeks) and I'm now sat here holding my 8 week old DS, so it really can mean nothing.
Rest as much as you can and contact the hospital. Try to remain positive and fingers crossed it will all be ok.
Don't do too much and rest lots. Good luck. Xx

Yes - she's snoozing upstairs right now. Flowers

Privateandconfidentialplease · 30/03/2017 21:51

I am sorry you are going through this op. I bled with dc1. Brownish at about 6 weeks, had a scan and it was all ok. Then I bled loads of bright red blood at 3 months with tummy pains. I thought I was miscarrying again ( my first pregnancy I bled red at 10 and a half weeks and miscarried) dc was fine.
Call your gp/ midwife and get a scan booked to put your mind at rest.

DuRezidal · 30/03/2017 21:57

I would get yourself to your EPU because the worrying is just the worst part and brown is usually just old bleeding from implantation. I've had it with both my pregnancies.

BowiesJumper · 30/03/2017 21:59

Yes I had exactly this from about 4 weeks to 8 weeks. On and off, lots of brown and mucusy. With occasional red blood when I wiped and on one occasion quite a lot of blood. I thought that was it. I had a phone consult with my GP who referred me to the epu and I got a scan at 6wks. All well and he's now 16months old. No idea why I bled!

Aliveinwanderland · 30/03/2017 22:02

I had bleeding on and off from week 4-8. DS is now 5 months.

BroomstickOfLove · 30/03/2017 22:02

I had brown spotting with DC1 and brown spotting with a bit of red with DC2. In my case it was due to cervical erosion which is common in pregnancy and harmless.

But if you can get to the EPU, that would probably be best, because other people's stories aren't yours.

Ledkr · 30/03/2017 22:05

Me too! Loads, with two of them. Both fine

PTphonehome · 30/03/2017 23:27

I've had brown/punk when wiping almost daily for a week now. Had a scan last week at 6+4 and all looked fine. I'm back for another scan on Wednesday all going well.
It's very stressful the cramps and the worry every time you visit the toilet. Fingers crossed x

tabletopsbs6 · 31/03/2017 08:56

me too! I had brown/stringy discharge for a couple of days at around 6w and 8w with one tiny bleed at 8w - only lasted 10 mins. 14w now and all scans have shown a healthy growing bub!

AprilShowers177 · 31/03/2017 09:20

Yes! DS is 10 weeks:) throughout first trimester I regularly had thick brown discharge, and also pinky discharge. I was always told it's when you bleed bright red that's the worrying type. Dark and brown is old blood. I found for me it happened when my period would have been due.

ShuttyTown · 31/03/2017 09:25

Me! First pregnancy, brown and red blood throughout the whole thing. I had so many scans as they couldn't figure out why it was happening. In the end I just accepted it was one of those things for me and my DS is now 4!

Amira90 · 31/03/2017 09:40

Yes it can, my DS is now 2 months. I had a lot of brown bloody mucus from about 6 weeks for around a fortnight. EPU booked a scan and all was well.
In contrast, my miscarriage started as bright red blood.
Good luck OP x

Tattybogle89 · 31/03/2017 12:02

Thank you everyone.
Praying all is well. Still brown today.
Waiting on a call back from g.p I'll let you know. I appreciate your replies xxx

Well doc was useless. Said "that doesn't sound good I see why you are worried, Im not sure if you are too early for a scan, call epu."

That was it. I took morning off work to see doc and I waited over four hours for a call back. Now I have to go into work. Great. She gave me no reassurance either I feel worse now

JaneJeffer · 31/03/2017 13:38

Yes, it's horrible and scary but I had this with my now 18 year old and a friend who was pregnant at the same time also had it and her baby was fine too. As long as you're not in pain I think you will be ok. Hope all goes well Flowers

NappingRabbit · 31/03/2017 13:40

Yes, I had this from BFP to about 14 weeks with DS, as well as a couple of heavier red bleeds. Lots of early scans found nothing to explain it, it just stopped one day and that was that. I know how scary it is though - fingers crossed for you.

stupidoctopus · 31/03/2017 13:48

In my first pregnancy I had this from about 5 weeks, was checked and told to wait it out and see how it progressed. I had two massive bleeds at 8 weeks, scans showed baby had died and ended up having a D&C.

My second pregnancy, I had brown blood for about a week at 8 weeks, scans showed a heartbeat, bleeding stopped and DD turns 1 next week.

Currently pregnant again and have started spotting again at 8 weeks. It's just one of those things, sometimes it works out okay and sometimes not.

Tattybogle89 · 31/03/2017 15:02

Sad I just can't focus on anything. I'm so upset. Preparing for the worst and knicker checking every five mins. Maybe I should book a private scan.
Assume epu shut weekends so I wouldn't call there til Monday. Do they see you on the day if no red blood or is it an appt days later? If so I'll book Private, although cash is tight.

Call your doc again.try to get a scan today. Xx

Friendofsadgirl · 31/03/2017 15:23

Our local EPU saw me on a Sunday when I had this. Call them now.
DD is now 9 years old.
Hope you get positive news.
