Hope nobody minds me starting a new thread, but the old one was taking forever to load.

Who is still waiting? It's just that the thread has been very quiet of late.

I am having this baby, the day afer tomorrow (c-section), when are the rest of you due. Sorry I can't remember

Years of living in london with no garden made me into a hugely frustrated but keen gardener (plus I'm a real foodie), so since moving to the sticks last year it's like an unstoppable tide! I dug a big veg patch out of rubble last spring and grow things like tomatoes courgettes, garlic, spuds (posh kinds like Pink Fir) peas and beans, loads of salads - there is something really great about wandering down to the bottom of the garden and cutting a salad 5 mins before lunch! Then in main garden I was really restrained last year and watched it over 12 months to see what was there already and then started ripping things out which I hated, moving things and generally putting my stamp on it.

But yes, it plays havoc with my back and SPD! I had been really careful until about a month ago when I just had to get going, but my God did I pay for it. My theory today was that having had a show I should stay as upright as possible and keep active to help things along, but I'm still here, still 'intact' and going to bed having had a super-hot long bath. It's my brother and nephews' birthday tomorrow - not to mention the Queen - so perhaps I could make it a family hat-trick?

Not suggesting I'm related to the Queen obviously

Well done peppergirl BTW! We'll all be joining you soon one way or another

Fennel · 21/04/2004 08:38

Morning all.

or should that be, morning to the few!

am still here. Metrobaby those do sound like early contractions to me - hope they develop. and Emmagee, one of my friends insists long hot baths is the way to get babies out.

we have a nice big garden and I used to quite like gardening but 3 lots of preganncy + baby in 4 years, all babies spring or summer too, has left me neglecting the garden. Have booked gardeners instead for the moment. maybe next year.... (if this baby has emerged by then of course....)

am still trying to contact the midwife for a sweep. can't believe I am still here with no signs at all!

Metrobaby · 21/04/2004 09:20

OOoooo - I'm having contractions today and it hurts. Not sure when to phone hospital. Since 2am this morning they are every 10 mins or so - haven't changed since - except that they are getting longer and more painful. Maybe I should start another thread to ask this question as I don't want to go into hospital too early. I'm scared too.

Fennel · 21/04/2004 09:25

ooh metrobaby you lucky woman

was your first labour quick? mine were both slow and also we live close to a hospital so if I were you I'd wait and not go in too soon.

it's scary isn't it but still wish I was there too...

Lesley76 · 21/04/2004 09:28

OOOh Metrobaby - hope you are Ok. Sorry I cant offer any advice as a first timer. I would be / expect to be scared too!! tell me you have soemone with you right now??? you must be tired alreday if you've been up all night

Can only send good wishes and lots of hugs. ((()))

dot1 · 21/04/2004 14:13

ooh - 2 more!!! Congratulations to Dolbear and Peppergirl!

Probably v. quick posting as ds2 is just waking up - from a 2 hour nap (hurrah) - although I spent an hour of that walking around outside! I think I walked about a mile today, which I'm very proud of, as it's a lot further than I could do when I was very pregnant!

Still keeping fingers crossed for everyone else!

Lesley76 · 21/04/2004 17:04

Oh Dot please keep posting - your messages are so encouraging! Glad you and baby are doing so well. How's your 2yo handling things?

Any news from Metrobaby? I assume she's in hosp now?

Fennel - how are you today? Still no action? I now have appointment to see the consultant at term +6 (they wouldn't agree to T+12, which was the next apt they had). I have agreed to scan and monitoring at this time but nothing else yet! Apparently i will be "offered" a sweep if my cervix is suitable.Dont fancy this much......

So I guess I will just have to start on my own by then........

Fennel · 21/04/2004 17:58

hi Lesley

I am begging them for a sweep but midwives too busy til tomorrow. will have one then and am planning to not go for my appointed induction on friday but to wait a couple more days.

meanwhile have had a busy day, DP is off work and kids in school/nursery so have had a rigorous routine of nipple twiddling, long walk (with nice romantic lunch date in middle) and rampant sex. I don't know who suggests such activities but I don't think they can ever have been this pregnant - I can barely move now I am SOOO uncomfortable, aching all over except NOT with labour pains, just all other sorts of muscle pain you can imagine!

and the baby has not stopped moving in hours - is this normal? could it be a sign of activity at all ? (clutching at straws here). it's as though she's fighting to get out (but going about it the wrong way).

Fennel · 21/04/2004 17:59

ps Emmagee has not posted all day - do you think she's in labour?

Metrobaby · 21/04/2004 18:54

hi lesley and fennel - sending you lots of positive vibes (in between contractions). Hopefully everything will work itself out.

Can you believe that I am STILL here - still stuck on 10 min contractions. At this rate this 2nd labour will last longer than my 1st

Fennel · 21/04/2004 19:15

hi Metrobaby,

just posted on your other thread. hope things speed up for you soon.

I have, hiding among my other aches and pains, some very very gentle little contractions. Gentler than the ones 4 weeks ago, very weak and not even counting as painful, but still... am pinning my hopes on the sweep tomorrow.

Metrobaby · 21/04/2004 19:30

feneel - sounds promising. Would you like some of my contractions ? I'm really really keeping my fingers crossed for you. Hey - our babies might even come on the same day !

Lesley76 · 21/04/2004 20:20

Metrobaby ? have posted on your other thread as well. Just to say sorry you are having such a bad time ? to have all these contractions then be told its ? just? pre ? labour must be very depressing ???..Don?t know how you are coping. At this rate you will be exhausted by the time you go into ?real? labour (whatever that is)

Fennel ? glad to hard you?ve had such a nice romantic day. You say that the baby has been very lively ? that might be the sex, as our baby really objects to this kind of stuff. Not the ahem???...intercourse itself??..but the ??..well?.?.foreplay! Sorry to be so graphic!!

Please will you post after the sweep tomorrow and let me know what its like, if it works etc? Today at the hospital, the Mw told me I would probably get (I?m sure she meant be offered) a sweep next week when I see the consultant and I should try sex afterwards to induce labour. I said ? Oh I better get Dh to bring me here then? ? I meant as I?d heard that sometime a sweep can bring on cramps and bleeding straight away & I didn?t want to have to drive myself home 45 mins drive. She looked very shocked and said, ?I didn?t mean immediately!? Can you imagine, in the Day Care ward of the hospital????..LOL!!!

Fennel · 21/04/2004 20:37

Thanks Metrobaby but I think I'd prefer some of HMC's contractions if she's got any left over from last week! yours sound too like my last labour. which was slow and long.

Lesley will let you know about the sweep, am looking forward to it (this is how desperate we get, I am jealous of metrobaby for having painful contractions and think a sweep sounds fun )

but surely I don't have to have yet more sex after the sweep, really? DP was going to go to work tomorrow while I had the sweep, shall I have to recall him for duty?

my little mini-contractions have built up a tiny bit to something vaguely painful. getting hopeful here....

Fennel · 21/04/2004 21:06

Metrobaby, I think I am joining you in regular contractions! they are building up, but nothing dramatic yet. every 5 minutes or less.

off to try the hot bath and paracetamol treatment.

handlemecarefully · 21/04/2004 22:24

Congrats to Peppergirl, Dolbear and Hewlettsdaughter - its all been happening over the last couple of days!

Metrobaby and Fennel - it sounds like your babies are on the 'move'. Looking forward to hearing your good news soon.

I'm now day 6 'post partum' and suffering from the old baby blues. The slightest thing provokes an emotional outburst! - all very tedious. Still will probably feel 'normal' again in a couple of days....

emmagee · 21/04/2004 23:13

No Fennel I'm not in labour, just couldn't get to the computer today, had another show this morning, then saw midwife who cheerily advised me that you can have a show a week before baby comes!!!! I think I have been leaking a little bit of my waters today though, we shall see... I went to my Yoga class this evening and we did lots of pelvic rocking and wiggling, so got lots of Braxton Hicks/mild contractions. Glad to hear that you have got something, perhaps we will all end up with babies tomorrow?

Lesley76 · 22/04/2004 08:18

HMC - sorry to hear that you are having a bad few days. You seem to be very philosophical about it - I'm sure I'll be in floods of tears all over the place. How do you cope?

Fennel, Metrobaby and Emma - what's happening today?

Fennel · 22/04/2004 09:24

I have a baby! born last night at home as planned. details to follow on birth threads.

still a bit shell shocked but all very fine

Toothache · 22/04/2004 09:29

WOW Fennel!!! Congratulations. I notice you were still posting at 9pm-ish last night! Must've been a quick one.

Well done.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

motherinferior · 22/04/2004 09:32

Oh Fennel! how absolutely wonderful! Lovely!

Jaybee · 22/04/2004 09:33

Congratulations - I'll look out for further details on the birth threads - must have quick in the end - well done!!

hewlettsdaughter · 22/04/2004 09:43

CONGRATULATIONS FENNEL! ALSO DEBBIETHEMUM, DOLBEAR AND PEPPERGIRL!!!

I have been checking up on this thread, although not had much time to post (currently holding babe - Isobel - and learning to do the one-handed typing that so many mumsnetters seem to have got down to a fine art!)

How are the rest of you today?

peppergirl · 22/04/2004 10:55

congrats fennel ! looking forward to hearing how it went.

leslie, emmagee, metrobaby, you still around ?

Lesley76 · 22/04/2004 11:59
