Hope nobody minds me starting a new thread, but the old one was taking forever to load.

Who is still waiting? It's just that the thread has been very quiet of late.

I am having this baby, the day afer tomorrow (c-section), when are the rest of you due. Sorry I can't remember

Maybe Fennel is in labour? Though she's having a home birth so there is NO EXCUSE for not being on line to keep us fully informed.......

dot1 · 19/04/2004 11:49

CONGRATULATIONS HD!!!!!

Wonderful news - seems every time I log on - which isn't often at the moment - there's another April baby - hurrah!!

Hope Fennel's OK and baby's on the way - happy birthday!!!!

Meanwhile, ds2 impressed the midwife today by regaining his birth weight + 2 oz by today, day 10!! This is only because he's flipping feeding every 1 1/2 - 2 hours during the day mind you... I'm starting to feel superglued to the settee, which wouldn't be such a bad thing if poor old dp didn't have to run around after me and ds1 - bless her - she had to look after us all through my pregnancy and it seems nothing's changed. Can't wait until I can do a bit more - but feeling very pleased with myself as I've just cooked tea for tonight - for the first time in weeks..!

Anyway, good luck to everyone still to push..!!

Metrobaby · 19/04/2004 13:07

maybe you are right Lesley - she hasn't posted today - maybe her baby wants to share her birthday too.

dot1 - nice to hear that you and your new ds are doing well. Those early weeks are quite hard - esp if you are bf. Your dp sounds like quite a star.

Fennel · 19/04/2004 13:12

hi all - thanks for the birthday wishes.

no am not in labour. been out shopping. for nice things for me though. Would have liked to buy new summer clothes but don't know a suitable shop for "huge whale soon to be lesser whale of indeterminate size".

also been continuing with the prostaglandin application - yes I am a clear example that sex and exercise do not work. sex may be an effective means for beginning pregnancy but less effective as a means of ending it.

midwife phoned to put the wind up me regarding home births and resisting induction, reminded me that placentas age and can cause fetal stillbirth. I quoted her the NICE guidelines, probably not a wise idea as it implies I know better than her. but in the end if midwives and consultants don't encourage home birth etc for over 41 weeks they won't be supportive even if you insist. suspect I'll be bludgeoned into earlier induction than I'd choose and also than the guidelines recommend. not much point being assertive if you are not supported in your choice is there really?

dolbear · 20/04/2004 07:58

Update on Dolbear,

Hi Everyone DH here, just to let you all know that my DW waters broke on sunday night at 1.30am we went into hospital and at 5.45pm on Monday afternoon we had a baby boy (9lb 10oz)named Oliver.
Unfortunatly it was by section as we got to 9cm and got no where else.
Good luck and best wishes to you all and the real dolbear will be back soon..

Toothache · 20/04/2004 08:27

AAAAAAND Another one graduates!

Congratulations Dolbears DH.... give her our best wishes. Oliver is such a lovely name and one of the ones on my list if this is a boy.

He's a good healthy weight, no wonder he got stuck!

Lesley76 · 20/04/2004 09:25

Congrtulations Dolbear& Mr Dolbear and welcome Oliver. 9lb10oz - no wonder the midwife said you were a "tight fit" Dolbear!!! Well done!!

Well Fennel, looks like its just you and me left on this thread..........how are you my dear? not too hung over i trust??

Fennel · 20/04/2004 09:58

Congratulations Dolbear and Dolbearcub Oliver!

was it Dolbear who was only 5'0 -that's quite a size for a baby isn't it? wow. He should be a good feeder and sleeper though.

Hi Lesley, it does seem to be just us left, or possibly Emmagee is still around too? had an ok birthday really, invited some friends round for takeaway curry, but only the friends who could be guaranteed not to say anything remotely insensitive.

What happened at your hospital appointment Lesley? I have one today, 8 days overdue, have never reached this point before but am anticipating being given an induction date. am getting my head round the the idea and memorising the "positive induction stories" thread.
I feel a bit upset that my hoped for low-intervention preferably at home birth is never likely to happen, despite aiming for it 3 times. But then plenty of other people never get the birth they want either...

my sister suggested I could always aim for a 4th child to try for that elusive "positive healing birth experience"!

Fennel · 20/04/2004 10:01

Metrobaby are you still here too? don't desert us now....

SpringChicken · 20/04/2004 10:05

Congratulations Dolbear

Can't wait for the full story - Welcome to Oliver

Toots · 20/04/2004 11:45

Fennel and Lesley. Just want to say good morning.
Fennel LOL at your post (you know, the really funny one, yesterday).
Lesley I love your no-nonsense approach to life in late pregnancy. Can't BELIEVE your baby isn't jumping to it. My bump was also conceived in the morning, and I can well imagine my outrage starting from pm 8th Oct onwards.

I hope something happens for you both today. I really do.

Fennel · 20/04/2004 12:40

So what happens when there is just one of us left on this thread?

Do we have to go and gatecrash the "Due in May" thread? A bit like repeating the year at school?

motherinferior · 20/04/2004 12:56

You bask in all the attention, sweetie. Many of us are lurking and rooting for you.

emmagee · 20/04/2004 13:16

..and me, I'm still here!

Lesley76 · 20/04/2004 13:45

oooh sorry Emma - how are you today?

Egypt · 20/04/2004 14:05

congratulations dolbear and mr d and baby Oliver.

emmagee · 20/04/2004 16:30

Don't worry Lesley, I'm alright, had a major burst of energy in the garden this pm - they keep threatening rain so I don't start anything and then it doesn't come, so I did a bit of weeding and sowed loads of seeds - had a disaster at weekend when my very small, portable greenhouse got blown over and all seed trays tipped upside down, so I had to start over again!! GRRR . I feel like I am going to get really behind, especially in the veg garden because May is rather a crucial month and i'm going to be breastfeeding or washing nappies or sleeping!

Anyhow, now feel totally knackered! Had a show yesterday, went on all day and still dribs and drabs today so I went to Sainsbury's this morning rather nervously, but still no other signs, bit achey but that could be the gardening! Booked in to see consultant a week today, but I do feel strong enough to resist their pressure to book for a section as I went into spontaneous labour both previous times, just Bl**dy late!

Anyhow, must go and feed the troops and get them bathed and in bed so that I can lie on the sofa for the rest of the evening watching rubbish telly!

Fennel · 20/04/2004 16:37

hi Emma,

did you go a full 2 weeks over the last two times before going into labour spontaneously then?

I wanted to wait til 42 weeks for induction but they are not keen, though nothing is wrong with me or the baby, they are talking about ageing placentas, fetal stillbirth etc.

also apparently they are "full up" for next monday which is my full 42 weeks so have offered me induction this friday as the only option. did you have to argue against induction the other times?

emmagee · 20/04/2004 18:13

Fennel, first baby was 10 days late so was within the 'normal' parameters, second was exactly 2 weeks late, I was 'lucky' that it fell on a Saturday, so I was booked in for a section the following Monday i.e. 42wks +2. (booked in for section not induction because of previous section) I don't remember having to argue about dates, mostly because I have nearly a 5 week cycle and i just told them I wasn't coming in earlier!

They can monitor you daily to make sure that baby is still thriving and you could ask for a scan to make sure placenta is still looking okay. Basically it's in their interests to 'manage' your delivery to minimise risk, fair enough, but if you are healthy and so is babe, then I would stand your ground - also I don't see what bearing it will have on your homebirth just because it's late. Why don't you ask them to book you in for Tuesday if they are full up for Monday rather than go early? Also, if you can bear it, try acupuncture (or refloxology if you don't do needles) I did with no.2, don't know if it clinched it, but it can't do any harm. BTW I absolutely HATE needles but didn't have any probs with acupuncture!

Good luck with your pushy midwife - usually it's the docs who are a pain

Lesley76 · 20/04/2004 20:05

Hi Girls how?s it going? Glad I?m not the only one left, though as I?m the only first timer I suspect I?ll end up being last?sigh?

Thanks for asking about hosp Fennel. Fortunately their date is 5 days ahead of mine so they didn?t even mention induction thank goodness. I read their policy, which seems to be that they will ?offer? a sweep from 41 weeks, so I suspect I will be pressed to have this done next week. Not sure how I feel about it. A bit worried that if I refuse they will start to suggest more aggressive forms of intervention. Esp given its my first baby and my advanced age!!!

Don?t understand why they are hassling you at only 40+8. Esp. when it?s not your first time. I downloaded the full RCOG guidelines and they don?t even mention home birth in relation to induction. They do say they should offer a membrane sweep, but that wouldn?t affect your plans would it? I really hope you get the birth you want this time. LOL at SIL?s suggestion

Metrobaby ? you are very quiet ? what are you up to?

Emma - are your seeds Ok? What are you sowing? I?m very impressed by all your industry ? I do like gardening but as I?m too lazy to do annuals or veg I don?t sow from seed anymore. Just do shrubs, perennials and some bulbs. We moved to our house just over a year ago so its only now that I?ve found out what is (or is not in our case) in the garden.

BTW Did you manage to go into labour in Sainsbury?s and get some free goodies?

Fennel · 20/04/2004 20:12

Hi Lesley and Emmagee,

Being first-timers hasn't stopped the others from delivering already.
and yes Metrobaby has gone quiet hasn't she?

I also don't understand why I am being hassled at this stage about ageing placentas etc. The midwife told me they'd had a few cases of problems with late babies locally so were all uptight about it.
Still a few days to go before I have to make decisions anyway. trying to stay cool.

I really don't seem very good at all this childbirth stuff, despite prior experience! am sort of hoping that giving up and thinking about induction will scare the baby into coming out....

peppergirl · 20/04/2004 20:44

hello there everyone,

big congrats to HD and Dolbear !!!

I haven't posted since friday because following the membrane sweep on friday i went into labour that evening. Ella arrived at 5.45am on Saturday weighing 8lbs and 13 oz. Normal birth, i laboured in the waterpool but didn't get to deliver there.

She's a snuffly cuddly little bundle who feeds night and day and looks just like her big brother.

Fennel, Lesley, Emmagee, metrobaby, hope all is still OK with you all. the hospital used my 12 scan date to calculate an induction date and wern't comfortable about going over 14 days past 40 weeks. thankfully the sweep worked ( or maybe it was the blueberry muffins, i ate quite a few of them !).

Off now to catch some sleep before the all night feedingfest.......

Lesley76 · 20/04/2004 21:08

Well done Peppergirl....I was wondering where you were???? Ella is such a lovely name!!!

Have resolved to give up on the sex and eat muffins instead

Fennel · 20/04/2004 21:21

well done Peppergirl!

good to hear the sweep worked. I am hassling my midwife for one (3 phone messages to her so far, will continue hassling in the morning). Hospital consultant didn't offer one - clearly she hasn't read the official NICE guidelines!

am off to try some nipple-twiddling now. can't be bothered with more sex, do you think watching "sex and the city" on video counts as vicarious sex? nipples already feel sore though so am not looking forward to the twiddling, I think reading some of the recent breastfeeding threads by our april babies graduates has reminded them of the soreness to come....

Metrobaby · 20/04/2004 22:05

Congratulations Dolbear and Peppergirl on your new ds and dd. Both names Oliver and Ella are really lovely, and I;m glad everything went well for you.

Fennel, Lesley and Emmagee I am still here. Didn't get a chance to post today as I was looking after dd. I've been getting a few painful contractions or period type pains tonight though - so maybe this lazy babe might decide to make its debut soon. I don't know I can't remember now what contractions feel like. I get this terrible pain which lasts a few seconds, and then I am perfectly fine for the next 20 mins or so. Maybe this is wishful thinking though on my part.

Fennel - I really hope you get the homebirth you want. I'm sure pushing for a scan will let them know the state of the placenta, and monitoring the baby will be of some reassurance. Mybe your hospital like to err on the side of caution. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Emmagee - I am impressed at your gardening abilities. Mine is a state and desperately could do with a mow and weeding - but I really can't stand the thought of that constant bending over. How do you do it?
