Welcome to the world baby fissa!!

FoxSticks · 18/10/2014 12:32

10lb 6oz!!!!!!! Shock. As someone who has just pushed out a 9lb 12oz baby on gas and air you have my admiration, congratulations and sympathy Grin

Things continue to be exciting my end, on Thursday they closed the labour ward, postnatal ward and SCBU because there was a bed block. I was very upset to be turfed out of postnatal and discharged, I understand that they needed to clear people out but as a bfing mum with a baby on SCBU I was very upset to be made to leave. Fortunately for me SCBU said I could camp down in their family room as I am feeding ds on demand.

DS has been diagnosed with group B strep. Apparently 1in 4 women are carriers but only 1in 2000 babies get the infection in a year - around 360 babies. We were low risk and don't fall into any of the testing catagories such as baby coming early or waters breaking a long time before delivery, or me having a fever whilst giving birth so it seems we were just really unlucky.

DS is doing so well though, yesterday they took him off all the monitors and the only treatment he is having now is 12 hourly antibiotics. The SCBU nurses told me that he us the most "well" baby she has ever seen with group B strep. In fact he is doing so well he has moved out of SCBU and into the transitional care unit last night, which means I get a bed again with him - yay!!!!! We spent our first night together on ward last night and he went four and three hours between feeds - my dd didn't do that until she was about 10 months old! I hope its not a fluke. He got weighed today and has only lost 6% of his bodyweight Smile I'm so proud of him that despite being separated and everything else he is feeding like a little trooper. Especially as the nurses were telling me that feeding 2 hourly meant he wasn't satisfied and he needed topping up, he was just driving my supply. I knew that and I wish I had trusted myself more and insisted on no top ups. He only had two, but I felt bullied into it.

So it's been a rollercoaster but we are both well, and the end is in sight. Last antibiotics are going to be given Monday afternoon then we can go home! Bit gutted that I am missing Strictly tonight but you can't have everything Grin

devoncreamtea · 18/10/2014 12:45

Fox that's great news about your Son - so pleased he is doing well. I wonder why they don't screen everyone for Strep? Seems worth it if it makes otherwise healthy babies so poorly.

fissa well-flippin-done! I thought I would snap in half at my 8lb 13oz boy last time - total respect!

hartmel and hacked hoping this weekend brings babies...

Nothing happening here (of course!) looking forward to a cosy weekend, quite glad it's raining as feel no pressure to go outside!!

FoxSticks · 18/10/2014 12:56

Apparently although lots of women are carriers they won't always test positive, it can change from week to week. In addition not all carriers will pass on the infection. It really does to seem to be rolled of the dice stuff. Most other western countries do test for it and offer antibiotics to women in labour but we don't in the UK because of the fear of making the bugs resistant by over prescribing antibiotics. Plus cost probably Grin

Is it just yourself, hartmel, and hacked to go now? Hope a cosy weekend gets things going for you.

devoncreamtea · 18/10/2014 13:21

Ah right. I can see point in attempting to avoid resistance. Glad it is getting sorted for you.

Yep - think we are the slackers! I might just wait till the next full moon.....!!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 18/10/2014 13:57

I tested +ve for Strep.in my last pregnancy - not too sure why my trust eveb tested me but luckily they did. I was also +ve at 34 weeks and had a course of ABs. I was told Id need four hourly ABs during the labour which they tried to dissuade me from but I insisted. Good job too as I tested +ve in the labour too.

This pregnancy ive been swabbed three times and tested +ve all three times so I will be insisting on Labour ABs too this time. How scary for you Fox glad your little.one is getting nice and strong.

I do think they should test all pregnant women at around 36/37 weeks and give ABs as needed - cost shoupd be irrelevant when you see how ill.some.of these babies can become.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 18/10/2014 22:28

Pains again this evening but not regular. Had a bath and oparacetamol (yet again!) and am currently waiting to see if they settle.down.

Had a bit of mild panic at the fact that very soon I will have both a newborn and a nearpy 3yo and thought "I must be effig mental how will.I cope?!" but others do.it so I really need to pull myself.together.

Can feel babies head burrowing as we speak Grin

devoncreamtea · 19/10/2014 11:53

Ahh hacked poor you! Hoping this stoppy starty thing means a quick and easy labour when it does come!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/10/2014 12:04

Fingers crossed. Am dreading going in evebtually to be told.im only 2cmGrin

pippap2 · 19/10/2014 12:43

My friend is a nurse and she always says her ward is mental on a full moon for no reason. hope it helped you ladies x

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 20/10/2014 10:42

How are we all this morning?

duvetfan · 20/10/2014 14:51

Nothing here. How about you? Smile

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 20/10/2014 15:03

Nada.

Can feel baby sort of resting against one of my hipbones which is quite uncomfortable, but no idicators of impending labour Sad

I have two childfree days tomorrow, and am selfishly thinking I want at least one of them to myself so maybe early Weds morning would be nice Grin

DH is a TA and he breaks up.Friday so itd be ever so convenient to have the baby soon so his week off is a good hands on one with a newborn and a toddler. Would mean he could just do one week Pat Leave too in addition, rather than having to take aweek unpaid later in the month.

Sat on my ball for an hour with Xfactor lastnight and its acheived didly squat.

hartmel · 20/10/2014 15:59

Woke up last night with contractions again. And this time they felt like the real ones (remembered from DS) and they were 4-6 min apart! Went for a walk in the house and they slowed down. but still feel like period pain in my lower back and stomach. Baby is pushing very hard down.

I had all weekend sex with DH, ate a lot of pineapple Grin and had a sweet chili chicken wrap last night.
Have been taken raspberry capsules since week 36..
Oh and played soccer with DH last week lol

I don't care on which day baby comes as long not on Wednesday as it is MIL birthday and I don't my kids sharing birthday of family members. (I myself share a birthday with my 20 year older uncle, and have bad childhood Memories!)

duvetfan · 20/10/2014 16:00

Well i think the the baby is going to fall out as the pressure is so uncomfortable but other than the odd random contraction, there is no indication it wants to move. My DH is a teacher and had last week off. He went back today, disappointed that he didn't get a sneaky extra few days of pat leave.
The only think I haven't tried is sex but that is now on the agenda. 4 days overdue now and counting! Angry
Keep us posted! Smile

hartmel · 20/10/2014 16:12

Oh and my hormones are acting up in the last two days! Now I can laugh about it and will share it with you!

Saturday DH and me watched a TV show and there was this lady who gave birth to a baby and the when they showed the baby, I found it so cute I started laughing. I couldn't breath anymore because I was laughing so hard.
Yesterday while eating lunch we watched a movie and at the end of the movie she gave birth to a baby. I got so mad and yelled at the TV (as if they will understand me) an started hysterically crying.
On both occasions DH was so shocked of my reactions he didn't know what to do!

duvetfan · 20/10/2014 20:27

My Dh jokingly said to my toddler 'we hope mummy has the baby soon so that she isn't as grumpy'. He said it with a laugh and a twinkle in his eye as my hormones have made me really fecking angry all the time. I am a joy to be around and dh has the patience of a saint. Blush

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 20/10/2014 20:29

Hopefully.not too much longer Grin for us and our poor long suffering families.

Anyone else feel they need to be Fully Prepared at all times? I want to go into hospital with shaved legs and clean straight hair and painted toes but I jist cant keep up the maintenance all the time!

duvetfan · 20/10/2014 22:21

I know what you mean I was straightening my hair at 9pm last night 'just in case'. I didn't bother washing my hair today though just to see if it makes a difference.Blush My hospital doesn't allow nail polish and I can't reach my toes anyway, so that's one less thing to do. Smile

Fissawissa · 23/10/2014 09:38

How are you doing ladies? Hope you are well!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 23/10/2014 11:18

My little Moon Boy arrived yesterday at 10.22. Got to hospital at half eight, was 2cm and it all just went very very quickly Grin

Labour was amazing - it hurt, dont get me wrong, but my body just did all the work and I just G&A'd it. Total opposite to my last frankly awful labour!

Little Travis is doing well!

Fissawissa · 23/10/2014 11:52

Congratulations Hacked! Wonderful news & great to hear it was a better labour than before! Second time round was easier for me too :0)
Enjoy the newborn cuddles! Flowers

hartmel · 23/10/2014 14:52

Congrats Hacked!! Now you can finally cuddle your little boy! Love the name!

Mine is still stubborn to come out. Contractions are getting more painful! Seeing my doctor tomorrow will see what he says! Went yesterday to a walk in clinic. Apparently I have some white cells in my urine, she gave me antibiotics but only because I had UTI at the beginning of the pregnancy. So not sure if I should take them or not. Will ask my doctor tomorrow!
At least I got my wish. Baby did not come on my MIL birthday! Grin

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 23/10/2014 15:08

Thanks everyone!

Hartmel hope all goes well for you and that those contractions strengthen up nice and quickly

devoncreamtea · 23/10/2014 16:38

Congratulations hacked!

I have also popped! Had a very small boy - just shy of 7lbs - on 21st October at 7pm, after induction which began on Monday, but didn't progress past 2 cm - then had waters broken and went from 5 cm to delivered in 8 minutes....!!!! Think I broke a record!

He is scrummy. No name yet......

Thank you all for keeping me vaguely sane! Sending love x
