Congratulations, Stringbean And welcome too.

I read that only 7% of women get offered a nuchal fold scan. I live near a big teaching hospital, maybe that's why it's offered...? Very unfair though.

How are you feeling? Sick? I am - still. Bleurgh.

tillymint · 20/02/2004 22:42

Hi All,
I will never make any complaint about the NHS again! Our maternity care seems to be top rate! Even our doctors at the surgery are fab. I only see the women Drs, and they're all mums so maybe that makes a difference.

With regard to sickness, I've had none this time. Not even nausea. With previous two dds I had nausea throughout, and piled on the weight very early. This time at 11 weeks, I've only gained 4ibs. Just as well 'cos I was already overweight! Is it a boy? What do you think? If it is it'll be sleeping in pink!!

tillymint · 20/02/2004 22:45

Can I ask if any of you are taking prozac (or any other antiD) whilst pregnant?
I've been assured its perfectly fine with no adverse effects. Am not ready to come off it yet and it helps me get through the SPD pain.

pollingfold · 21/02/2004 12:55

Tillymint

No experience of prozac - although I have read on other threads that as long as the doctor hasn't told you otherwise you should be able to continue to take it.

I'm glad that you've mentioned that you haven't had nausea with this pg - I've only had mild nausea whereas last time I spent many weeks with my head down the bog!! (boy). I was going to ask the question....is every pregnancy different?

jacksmumto1 · 21/02/2004 16:27

Stringbean - hello and congratulations!!

Pollingfold, I've been told that every pregnancy is different and that is certainly the case this time! I feel more like I have a stomach bug whereas last time it was most definite sickness with my head down the loo! The SPD also started earlier this time (4 weeks earlier) and has got worse quite quickly...

Tillymint - I had very bad nausea last time and had a boy; this time it's not so bad but I've put weight on quicker!! Perhaps it's a girl for me?!

cazzybabs · 21/02/2004 17:13

Last time I was really sick and didn't even have a bump until about 6-7 months and never really got into maternity clothes or put much wieght on and it was a girl. This time, as I said, feel sick all the time, but only actually been sick once, and have a bump!!! at 8 weeks.

jacksmumto1 · 21/02/2004 17:44

quick query - just discovered brown discharge in my pants (sorry if TMI), my stomach is achey today - I assumed this was stretching pains.

should I be worried??

thanks...

niknik · 21/02/2004 18:13

Hi everyone

Jacks I have had brown spotting and very low abdominal pain a couple of times during this pregnancy and have been reassured by scans each time. If you are worried I would contact your EPU

I have actualy been for a reassurance scan this morning (for the above reasons) and everything looks good. They have dated me 10/6 weeks which fits in with the dates of my last scan. They let me have a photo as well which I cant stop staring at. I have my proper 1st 12 week scan in 10 days time.

I am reconsidering having a Nuchal Scan as the Sonographer who did the scan this morning indicated that although they do not officially do nuchals in our area thet do measure the thickness and if they feel it is abnormal they will refer you onwards. I am 31 so not at the highest risk

Hi. Would like to join this thread - have been 'listening in' for the past 5 weeks or so, and feel the time has come to say 'hello'.

My EDD is 10 Sept, 12 week scan at end of month. First pregnancy. All well so far - been feeling sicky, sore back, sore tum etc., but happy about that as it reassures me there is something there!

tillymint · 21/02/2004 21:51

Welcome Ja
CONGRATULATIONS
You've done well to keep quiet for so long. Sickness is a great sign that all is well, and the scan is a wonderful moment.Enjoy.

M2T · 22/02/2004 13:42

Good luck to all you September Mums and your 12 wk scans.

wilbur · 22/02/2004 14:06

Better get my head out of the sand and join this thread. I'm about 9 weeks (not sure of dates as pg was unplanned) and have a scan in 3 weeks to get a better idea. Should be due 23rd Sept ish. I don't feel very pg, just exhausted, but then I only stopped b/feeding dd a couple of weeks before I conceived so I reckon my body is so used to feeling pg, it can't remember anything else. After an initial panic about crap timing, I am pleased about this pg now, but there is a big blot on my happiness which is that I have two very very dear friends who have been ttc for over 2 years and are very distressed by their situations. I am dreading telling them, esp. as we weren't even trying. I long for them to be pg so much.

stringbean · 22/02/2004 16:13

Scanning through your posts, I feel very fortunate that I haven't suffered with nausea or anything so far (well, a couple of mornings at 6 weeks, but felt fine after scoffing huge breakfast!). This is my second pregnancy, and seems to be following a similar pattern to last time (is that a good thing?), except for one thing. I came up in a huge rash on Sunday - diagnosed as an allergic reaction - must be something I've eaten - so feeling somewhat itchy, and of course I can't take anything. The rash is much improved today, but travelling round different parts of my body - it's worse in the morning and practically gone by lunchtine, so here's hoping it will disappear in a day or two. I read about something called PUPPP which is some sort of rash which appears in the last trimester and is horribly itchy, so hope this isn't a taste of things to come!

dejags · 22/02/2004 17:00

Hi everybody and welcome/congratulations to the new joiners

Update here - 10+2 now and feeling absolutely HUMUNGOUS! I can't believe that none of my trousers fit me anymore, not to mention bras. I have a noticeable bump - and I know it is noticeable because plenty of people have commented on it.

All the professionals keep saying that it's impossible to "show" this early - but I can't believe that water retention would cause a constant bump (it's there even when I get up in the middle of the night for a wee )

I carried very large in my last pregnancy - I can't imagine being any bigger than that but at the rate I am going I am going to be like the side of a house

I am normally 10st on the dot, I haven't weighed myself but a guesstimate would reckon about 8lbs gained already... eeek....

On the upside I have my scan week after next - I am so excited, like a kid in a candy store.

how are you all doing?

M2T · 22/02/2004 17:01

Wilbur - Congratulations!

Not a nice situation with your friends, but I'm sure they will be happy for you. How old is your dd?

Lolabelle · 22/02/2004 17:59

Well I'm 12 weeks gone and I've gained 16 pounds!!!! Admittedly thats probbaly due to cream cake craving and constipation doesn't help but its still shocking!! I am going to be careful from now on as i don't fancy a huge struggle to regain my figure after the birth but I had my 12 week scan yesterday and i nearly sobbed it was so amazing!! Suddenly the weight didn't matter or the nasty spout of spots or the constipation or the morning sickness - it was out of this world seeing the baby move around and to see its face so clearly - I was expecting a glorified tadpole!!

And to think I was convinced something would be wrong, i WISH to god i would get a bump though!

tillymint · 22/02/2004 22:15

Wilbur
I was in the same situation with two friends ttc. But they were still thrilled for me. Admitted they were jealous, but they don't want MY baby, they want THEIR OWN. I know they sobbed a bit, but both thanked me for telling them sooner rather than later.
I'm pg again now one year later, unplanned, and have not yet told them - waiting for v12 week scan nextweek.
Must practice what I preach.. its going to be difficult.

pollingfold · 23/02/2004 12:45

Welcom to everyone new, hopefully the list will get bigger by the day - just like us!

Totally agree with tillymint, wilbur. I was TTC for just under a year, had a m/c and then got pregnant (with this one) after a few months, however during that time 3 good friends got pregant (one totally unplanned, 1 the first month of trying , and the 3rd back to back with first child). TBH I was happy for them and after each told me I cried a bit, but I would never wish that they weren't pregnant and I was instead, I just wanted to be pregant aswell. They may not want to take an active particpation in going through this pregnancy with you, but you can help them get through each month of ups and down.

Goodluck with telling them, but they will definitely prefer being told by you than hearing it second hand later on. Although it sounds like you really value your friends by being so concerned about their feelings

pollingfold · 23/02/2004 12:46

scales are banned in our house.

M2T · 23/02/2004 12:49

Lolabelle - I haven't weighed myself for a few weeks now, but at 9wks I had gained 8lbs!! So I shudder to think. I'm still carrying an extra stone or 2 from the 1st one.

Yeah the 12 wk scan is surprisingly detailed isn't it?? Makes it seem real.

Don't wish for a big bump too soon..... in about 15 wks time you'll be saying "OH GOD LOOK AT THE SIZE OF ME".

niknik · 23/02/2004 15:46

Hi everyone - Hows everybodys bumps?

I've had a swollen belly since day 1 but I have put that down to hhhm wind, fluid retention and constipation!

But over the last few days I have noticed a ridge just below my bikini line, can't see it but can feel it, and it is very tender. Does this sound about right - 11 weeks first baby?

wilbur · 23/02/2004 15:49

Thanks for the messages about my friends, I'm sure you're right. It's still going to be hard though. Got my 12 week scan in 3 weeks so will tell them after that. I'm feeling quite smug in that I have only put on about 1/2lb so far at 9 weeks, but that probably because I am still 2 stone overweight from dd (she's 9 months old, M2T) and have blubber to spare. With Ds I put on a stone in the first 12 weeks, and after superhuman effort to lose the weight after him, I still racked up a full 3 1/2 stone gain with dd. I don't think I do small pregnancies, and it's not like my babies are huge either.

Quackers · 23/02/2004 17:00

Hi NikNik! Yes that's your Fundus! It should start to rise out of the pelvis soon and you'll feel even more! I'm amazed at how quickly my bump has grown this time. It was at my belly button by 14/15 weeks and I thought I was having a mammoth baby but turns out it's not! Just expanding rapidly! Hope you're all doing well!

Lolabelle · 23/02/2004 17:31

God I feel better hearing some of your weight gain averages from your present pregnancy and previous as magazines go on and on about not gaining much more than 2lbs in the first 3 months and i felt like a fat freak!! I am completely ravenous all the time though and could eat crisps for breakfast, lunch & dinners so hopefully these cravings will die down soon!

The main concern I havethough is my skin - Ilook awful!! I have NEVEr had spots this bad and its either pick tthem or walk around with ripe spots all over my forehead and i don't do puss in public!!! I thought you were meant to blossom when pregnant??!??
