Had a growth scan because my AFP levels (the blood test done for downs and neurological markers) was high (indicating a very low risk of downs but a high risk of neurological problems)... all previous scans indicated all was fine with baby BUT apparently high AFP levels can mean a very small baby... so the scan was to check baby was growing well. I have to have another scan at either 33 or 35 weeks (or possibly both???) to keep monitering all is ok. It seems that if the baby was small then they would moniter us even more and possibly deliver the baby early... does that make sense?!

As for names.... we are the same - girls names are easy but we argue about boys names - even ds goes "no not ###### mummy!" I can't win what ever I suggest! We had this problem last time - knew exactly what we would call ds if he'd been a girl but ended up with heads in a book trying to decide on a name once he was born!

Hi All,

Glad to hear you are all well. We are doing fine - expanding by the minute though

I have a rather large baby on board and he is being monitored by having growth scans every four weeks. I have been tested for Gestational Diabetes and got the all clear which is good news. The baby is encroaching the 95th centile and I am carrying a lot of fluid. All this adds up to a comedy bump - I am getting so sick and tired of people gasping in horror when I say "I am actually only due in 11 weeks time". The bump is measuring 3 weeks bigger than it should so I am not surprised.

My care is now shared between the Community Midwife and the Consultant and I feel as if we are living at the hospital. I have 6 appointments in the next 6 weeks for scans, bloods, cons appointments and regular midwife checkups. DS1 said to me on monday "Mummy, we aren't going to have blood taken AGAIN are we?".

Anyway haven't posted for ages, so sorry for such a long post. Hope you are all well.

Dejags
(11 weeks to go and not one single name even remotely agreed on yet...)

Dejags, i'm exactly the same as you. Bump measuring 3 weeks more than it should. They're going to wait for results of my 28wk blood tests b4 referring me to hospital. It has slightly unnerved me tho'... how r u feeling about it?

dejags · 28/06/2004 20:23

Hi Ja9

I think some people are pre-disposed to carrying larger babies. I appreciate that the hospital have to err on the side of caution but I am not too concerned. I must admit that before I knew the outcome of the tests for Gest Diabetes I was a bit worried because I didn't fancy the whole pricking my finger bit four times a day. Now that I now that I have no worries on that front I am really not concerned.

What in particular is worrying you? Are you worried about being able to deliver a big babe? Is this your first baby?

My first baby was 8lb10 - not huge but not tiny either. He was incredibly long - 59cms but very skinny. I think this one will be the same.

At worst I believe I'll be induced a couple of weeks early and have been pretty much told that I will not be allowed to go past my due date if he carries on developing at this pace.

Let me know how you are getting on.

2 of my children at school (out of a class of 12) have developed chicken pox - while there is min. risk to the baby (as no longer in 1st trimester) and am farily certian I am immune to it one of their dads who is a G.P. said I ought to go and have my immunity checked. So I am off to my G.Ps tomorrow who will no dount tell me I am being very silly and really don't need to bother - but best be safe and at least I'll know for next time.

AND to top it off I am having the most terrible back ache, Well its not that painful just constant - its driving me mad! And also, whilst I am on the subject of moaning (I do love being pregnant honsetly) but sometimes when I am leaning over a child's desk the baby says, "Hey I am getting squashed" and really ha a good old wriggle - its really painful - a real foot in the ribs. Oh well I'll just have to improve my posture.

I am glad there are lots of us having trouble with boys names - it would be funny come October if we all come up with the same one!!! My FIL has organsied a family photo thing on Sat - so am praying for illness so I can get out of it. I can't imagiane anything worse than be stuck in a room having my photo taken with all my dp's family. They are fairly nice seperatly but altogther is a bit much! - maybe I'll come down with chicken pox !

Hi dejags

thanks for replying. I'm not exactly sure what has me so worried. The midwife i saw was filling in for my one and looking back i don't think she had a very good manner - went through all the possibilities of why baby might be big, but made no effort to be reassuring. This is my first baby and it has all gone really smoothly up to now. Initially i think i was worried that there was something wrong with the baby that was causing 'abnormal' growth spurts but dh managed to wise me up on that front. Now i'm worried that the baby is going to be huge and that i won't be able to deliver it myself. I didn't think that i was at all bothered about having a section unitl it was mentioned as a possibility this week... I am also convinced that the bump has grown significantly since my last appointment on tuesday, but perhaps that's just paranoia setting in...Anyway i'm seeing my own midwife today at 3pm, hopefully for some reassurance. I'll let you know how i get on.

jacksmumto1 · 30/06/2004 14:05

Ja9 - don't worry too much - as long as you have a baby at the end of it - does it really matter how he/she comes out? The reason I say this is I ended up having a em.cs with ds as he was too big - 'only' 8lbs 7 1/2 oz (the rest of my family have 10lb-ers ). At the time (after being in labour for 24 hours and unable to push him out) I was really upset - though some of it was the way they (the hospital) dealt with the situation. Afterwards I realised it really didn't matter ds was here and that was what was important.

The advantage of knowing that you will have a section (I'm having one this time..) is a)you know when bubs will arrive which means b)you can arrange appropriate help if you feel you need it after the section. Having a em.sec mean't that as ds was late we had no family around to help out and I personally could really have done with someone to help with meals etc.. whilst I was in discomfort.. (which passed v.quickly by the way )

I hope you do get the birth you want but keep calm and don't worry! [hugs to you]

jacksmumto1 · 06/07/2004 13:09

Ja9 - how did you get on??

I've just heard that my friend (8 weeks ahead of me - dd 15/07) had a baby girl yesterday 2 weeks early and breech (that's an owww! face btw!) I actually feel really jealous that the waiting is all over for her! Do I HAVE to wait another 8 weeks?! Please can it be over now!!! However, I can't wait to see the baby tonight or tomorrow!!!

How is everyone doing with getting organised? I have got the "newborn" stuff (nappies/clothes/bedding) out of the loft to wash and sorted the carseat and pram now... Hopefully will get some bits for my hospital bag today... I'll be away for 3 weeks out of the 8 I have to go so feel I need to be organised now especially as the last 2 weeks of 'waiting' will be when I am away!

Hope everyone can chat soon!!!!

dinny · 06/07/2004 23:23

Hi, everyone. I am fed up today as we withdrew from our house sale at 5pm. It had been dragging on for sooo long, complete arse of a purchaser (IMO!) and due to our imminent arrival we had to have a firm cut-off point. It's been causing us so much stress
On the plus side, I am glad I don't have to move into rented accommodation with a baby due in a few weeks!
Now I can concentrate on getting things ready! Hurrah!
Cheer me up! Dinny x

blossomgirl · 07/07/2004 02:41

Hello .
lovely to read how everyone is going on.

Not a great deal new here. Sorry to hear about your house dinny and the stress. Don't worry it will work out for you.

We are living in a very very small flat but have to live in a particular area because dp is involved in the community... we've been hanging on a hook waiting for these six months for our move to come together through his employers.. and have always thought of you being in the same head space. Longing to feel the relief of knowing whats happening, feel a bit better now atleast someone out there can get ready! Lucky you on that score!

Had a daft but real feeling that this baby is going to be here ANY minute. Like it could be tomorrow (really 12 more weeks!) Anyone else know what I mean?

'Supose it might be down to my thwarted nesting and slight panic at not being able to feel 'at home' here whilst getting wiggled and thonked by a very real baby int tummy?

Hey everyone who can, could you do a bit of nesting for the blossom and the wiggle? Did a quick tally and I have one jigsaw and a soft toy. Thats Everthing Hope i don't have a big baby otherwise they won't fit in the sock drawer . Ah well sure to be ok in the end, good luck to everyone out there.

blossomgirl x

dinny · 07/07/2004 11:43

Hi, Blossomgirl, I had that feeling with dd1 - and she was born the next day (at just over 35 weeks). Tell your bub to stay put for a bit longer yet!

Hope your move is sorted soon. I do feel glad I can now get ready for baby coming - going to buy dd1 a new slide and trampoline at the weekend to keep her amused when baby is feedign (hopefully!)

cazzybabs · 07/07/2004 14:34

We have heard we have had an offer we put on a house accepted - so now I am desprate to move before the start of Sept. SO please please keep your fingers crossed that we don't get gezumpted (or how ever you spell it) because it is such a nice house! Am also praying the building society will give us a large mortgage and both sets of parents will help out. AHHHHHH - i feel i will be debt to everyone for the rest of my life(well I guess I will be!). This baby is so active - more so than dd was. Only another 12 weeks (thereabouts) to go

am also trying to presuade dp that I can not have my glider chair!!!!

dinny · 09/07/2004 16:07

Where are you moving to, Cazzybabs? Will keep my fingers crossed it all goes through for you!

My BH seem to have begun in earnest - like beign squeezed by a big snake round middle (I imagine!)
Sure I didn't have them first time round.

Also am getting heartburn - never had that before either. It's gross - any suggestions for dealing with it? x

cazzybabs · 09/07/2004 18:00

I didn't think I had any BH - but last time I saw the midwife she said Oh your having a BH - still if it doesn't hurt I don't mind. What I do mind is all the fat being pilled on to my bottom and thighs. I really am not eating lots of rubbish and I am doing some excercise - its very unfair!!!

We are moving to a 3 bedroom house in Cambridge (hopefully) as at the momement we live in a tiny 2 bedroomed house owned by my FIL. I feel dead grown up having a morgage and all! AND to top it all off dp says I am allowed to buy a glider chair - if I have the money!

1sttimemum · 23/09/2004 10:45

Hi can any1 help i'm 30 weeks pregnant and Braxton Hicks haven't started yet is this normal?
this is my first pregnancy so I'm worried please help!

Distracted · 29/09/2004 10:47

Hi 1sttimemum - just spotted your post (this September thread is rather dead, a new one was started in July as it had got too big). Also most of the September mums have delivered so there are only 2-3 of us now looking at the new September thread - if none of us were online when you posted then that's probably why you didn't get any replies.

Maybe you've already re-posted on a different thread, but in case not, thought I'd reply.

You do apparently get Braxton Hicks throughout your pregnancy approximately every 20 minutes - presumably to get your uterus 'fit' enough for all the big contractions it needs to do at the end to deliver . However, you don't feel them generally until near the end of your pregnancy.

In my first pregnancy I didn't ever feel any Braxton Hicks and that's pretty common (doesn't mean they aren't happening), so you may never feel any contractions until you actually go into labour. I'm now 40 weeks plus in my second pregnancy and this time I have had lots of Braxton Hicks (again much more common to be aware of them second time round). However, it's still erratic, some days I feel quite a few and other days nothing at all. I had to go on a monitor yesterday to check baby's heartrate and it also shows uterus 'activity' and showed contractions about every 6 minutes or so from what I could tell, but I only felt one of the 7 that were recorded (and that didn't look any stronger than the others, which seemed wierd - don't know why I felt that one and not others)!

The title of this thread being 'anyone due in Sept 04' may not attract many more replies, so it might be best if you start a totally new thread under pregnancy with a title re. braxton hicks and then I'm sure you'll get lots of other people replying as well.

Hope all's going well with your pregnancy. Good luck.
