Can I be a late joiner to this thread? I'm due 25th September and given that I was 10 days late last time probably won't pop until October - but looks like there are a couple of other people due late September. I'm 9 weeks now and waiting to find out whether or not I'll get a 12 week scan - they don't do them in our area but last time I chose to deliver in a different hospital, which did at the time do dating scans at the 12 week booking appointment. Fingers crossed, I'd rather not pay for it privately and actually think I'd rather not have a nuchal scan (private option) as I don't want to know if the baby might have downs (last time opted not to have the bloods to test for this either)!

Highlander are you due at a similar time to me?

I can sympathise with everyone feeling fat as I haven't dared weigh myself. Last time I lost weight during the morning sickness, this time the nausea is a lot worse but so are the cravings and I'm craving lots of stodgy unhealthy food, plus when I feel sick I have to eat quickly otherwise it gets much worse, so I'm just stuffing myself! I daren't think how much weight I've put on and certainly all my trousers are getting tight already even though I haven't got a bump, just getting fat!

Good luck to everyone having scans around now.

Lolabelle · 29/02/2004 17:23

Oh don't worry, I've gained so much weight without a bump and its getting embarassing as people are saying they can see a bump but its just the result of a few cream slices and several packs of Boasters cookies!!! I actually just nod and avoid the conversation about my bump nd hopefully one will be there very soon!!!! I'm 13 weeks gone now and not a sniff - when do I get one????!!!!

dejags · 29/02/2004 17:35

Hi all,

On the weight front I am not doing as badly as I had thought I have put on 6lbs and am now nearly 12 weeks.

Last pregnancy I put on 4.5 stone and by this stage had put on 12lbs so I am not feeling so bad. It helps that I am craving healthy things - last night all I wanted was baby tomatoes?? I mostly crave fruit, salad, wholegrain cereal and milk, milk and more milk....

The nausea has been so much better recently but it's back with a vengeance today - I feel GROTTY

Welcome Distracted, hope you have a great pregnancy...

Hope everyone else is well and looking forward to their scans - mine is next week

Hey there Distracted! I'm 24th September. First baby thus don't have a clue about anything (my sister says ignorance is bliss).

When should I see a teeny bump? My boobs got a bit huge but they seem to have stalled, thank God!

Distracted · 29/02/2004 19:33

Hi Highlander - just one day difference in dates! Looks like I've got the latest due date on this thread then!

Re. bump, first time round I started to have a bump at about 16 weeks but managed to still wear the most comfy of my normal clothes until I think 20 weeks and then I had to give up and switch entirely to maternity wear. Think it depends on your build though as I've had 1 friend who never had to wear maternity clothes at all and known other people who lasted until 30 weeks plus. My theory is that people who are tall are likely to have less of a bump as they have longer torsos and can carry quite a bit of baby lengthways, whereas those of us who are short show it all out front. There you go, I'm sure lots of people will disprove that theory straight away. At the end of the day I think everyone really varies when it comes to bumps and I expect second time round I'll show sooner as everything has already stretched (and I never got rid of the extra tummy from first time even though I did lose the weight). I'm just getting fat this time!

niknik · 01/03/2004 15:48

Hi everyone hope all are well

I am now 12/1 weeks and have my scan tomorrow, DH's first chance to see it.

Is it right I can stop taking my Folic Acid now, are you all going too at 12 weeks?

I have been on it for the past 2 years of ttc and it feels a bit strange stopping it now.

Still know real bump to speak of!

pollingfold · 01/03/2004 15:57

Dinny - hope you are OK after the scan on Monday.

ja9 · 01/03/2004 18:15

Hi everyone. Thought i just check in cos i've not said anything in a while!

Feeling really yucky these days... don't know why they call it morning sickness, mine seems to arrive at some random time in the day and then stay there till i go to bed. I'm eating so much junk food - Distracted, can relate to everything you say! Eating makes me feel better (but then it always has...). Surprisingly not put on v. much weight considering all i am eating - i usually just have to smell the food to put on the weight! I am however feeling a pinch on the waist with most of my trousers...

Scan on Friday morning - so exciting! Tis week has gone so slowly waiting for it. By my calculations will be 12/1 then.

We have lots of snow this week in north scotland and i'm terrified of slipping and falling. My mum keeps phoning to make sure i'm wearing 'sensible shoes'!

Love to you all. Keep looking after yourselves!

tillymint · 01/03/2004 22:23

Hi all,
At 12 weeks ish, I'm in stretch waist M&S trousers (size 18). Look fat not pregnant, but do have a bump even when I try to hold it in. But have only put on 6lbs??? Hoping it's 'cos dd2 is only 7mths and stretched me beyond the limit last year (she was 9.5lbs).
Is it true they get bigger - dd1 was 8lb at two weeks late.?
niknik
I'm taking a pronatal supplement (includes folic acid) and plan to take it throughout. Am also planning to take extra zinc for energy boost - my mw mate said it helps 'older mums'. Bloody cheek - but I prob will.
My nuchal scan is tomorrow - along with a few of you by the sound of it. Hope its good news for everyone.

Dinny · 01/03/2004 23:40

Hi everyone - I had my nuchal fold scan on Monday. It was fantaaaaastic! Soooooo amazing and so much clearer than I remember it being two years ago with dd1. Got low risk for Down's and all seems to be fine. DD1 came too and kept prodding my tummy and saying "Boo!" Keeps doing it now - or saying "Hiya" at it. Amazed she understands there's a "babbie" in there. She is 21 months, thought she'd be too young. These little people are really much cleverer than we think! So, I am very happy and don't really care that I am STILL puking. I am stressing that haven't taken folic acid enough. Baby was SO active - kicking, rolling, dancing, waving. Hope that means all is OK. Dinny xx ps welcome Distracted x

cazzybabs · 02/03/2004 00:05

OMG scans already - I still haven't been and told the doctor because they have such horrid opening hours and I can't phone from work as no privacy.

I am so hormonal at the mo as well - getting very pissed off with (d)p because he is expecting me to be able to do the same as I could when I am not preggers and I am so tired.

Still haven't been really sick.

I am also a bit worried because I am just not excited about this pregnnacy. And I worried that it will mean I won't bond with the baby Its not because it wasn't planned because it was and I remembe crying a few months ago wondering if I would ever get pregnant again but know I all I can think about is how tired I am, very selfishly all the things I can't do, how dp still gets to do all the things he wants, and lack of money.

I am just moaning I know - just annoyed with dp and dd is being very clingy at the mo. I need to lock myself in the bathroom and cry which is a sure sign of pregnancy hormones - as with dd I cried alot too!!!

Dinny · 02/03/2004 00:17

Hi Cazzybabs, sorry to hear you are feeling anxious. Definitely sounds like hormones talking! I think however much you want the baby, the first three months are so hard - even if you don't feel sick you are knackered. Especially with a child to care for already. I too have been annoyed with dh as he seems to forget that I am pregnant and doesn't really look after me as much as last time. Think that's common with subsequent pregnancies - lots of people say so.
Hope you feel better soon. Wait till you have your scan and see that little person waving at you. It cheered me up soooo much. Dinnyx

pollingfold · 02/03/2004 14:18

Great to hear that it went so well Dinny, goodluck to everyone else, mines seems so far off, 2 more weeks of waiting AAARRRGHH!!

pollingfold · 02/03/2004 16:36

Forgot to mention re the supplements - have just bought 3 packs of 90 tablets of pronatal vitamins. Boots have an offer on at the moment for all vitamis of 3 for the price of 3, so saved £12.50 on a 90 tablet pack. THese shoul see me through to post birth!!

pollingfold · 02/03/2004 16:36

Oops, that shoulbe be 3 for the price of 2

niknik · 02/03/2004 16:40

So glad all is well Dinny. I am going for mine in about 20 mins really nervous even though I knew everything was OK 10 days ago.

Will let you know how I get on

SpringChicken · 02/03/2004 17:49

Hope everything is OK Niknik Have got my fingers well and truely crossed for you x

Distracted · 02/03/2004 19:21

Glad your scan went so well Dinny, making me look forward to mine, but I've got a while to wait yet as I'm only 9/3 weeks and haven't got the appointment yet. I wasn't too bothered about it (except that I do want one to check everything's ok), but when I read your comments it reminded me last time of how I felt when I saw the baby and heard the heartbeat - I remember I burst into tears. I think maybe up until that point the pregnancy itself is very real, with all the symptoms, but the baby itself isn't, if you know what I mean. You suddenly realise there really is a little person in there rather than just the textbook foetus pictures that you've been looking at that kind of make it all just theoretical until then. Don't know if that makes sense!

Ja9 reassuring to hear that you haven't actually put on much weight despite eating loads, but I still just can't bear to get on the scales (or every time I think of it, it's late in the day and I know I'll weigh less first thing, so keep putting it off)! I know I should be being careful as I put on 2.5 stone last time and only lost 1 stone when I gave birth. It took me absolutely forever to lose the other 1.5 stone to get back to pre-birth weight, which was already 1 stone more than I should have been anyway! On the other hand I'm planning this to be my last pregnancy and a bit of me thinks well what the hell, this is the last time in my life when it doesn't really matter what I eat, perhaps I should make the most of it! Dangerous thinking, I know!

Niknik - hope your scan went ok.

By the way I put the wrong due date here earlier for some reason, I'm actually due 27th September and not 25th! Memory's getting worse already!

ja9 · 02/03/2004 22:05

Does anyone else have really bad lower back pain? I 've had it constsntly for the past 7 weeks or so. I don't notice it much during the day - its most noticeable when i'm rolling over in bed, getting up out of bed or getting off the sofa? I associated back pain with later pregnancy when you're carrying a huge bump.... Am I normal?!

niknik · 02/03/2004 22:56

Scan went great, my pictures aren't very clear though because it wouldn't stop moving, doing sommersalts ect - so cute.

They have dated me a day earlier (12/3) so due date now 7th Sep.

Ja9 I had really bad lower back ache up to a week ago but seems to have dissapeared now - replaced by chronic constipation and for some reason nausea seems to have come back with a vengence over the last 3 days.

Dinny · 02/03/2004 23:01

Niknik - so glad your scan went well.

Distracted - I know exactly what you mean about scan making you realise there is a little one in there!

Hope everyone is Ok, D x

ja9 · 03/03/2004 18:35

Had my scan this morning. It was fab!!! So excited that i finally have proof that there is something there. Got some cracker pictures.

It feels weird being abe to tell people now. I don't really know where to start! I'm sure i'll cope.

Only worry is, as i mentioned b4, we have lots of snow here. On my way back into work i promptly slipped and fell on my butt! Didn't hurt myself... please reassure me that i've not caused baay any harm.......

niknik · 03/03/2004 22:00

Congratulations Ja9 on your scan, its so exciting and makes it start to feel all for real doesn't it.

I'm absoloutly sure that your fall did not affect the baby in any way, the womb is designed to protect it in there, but obviously can understand your concern.

I've had to take another day off work today, woke up with a terrible migraine and finally relented at about 2pm and took a couple of paracetamols which has cleared it now.

Any body else having increased headaches? I'm not usually prone but the m/w mentioned that my blood pressure had gone up quite a bit yesterday, probably due to my anxiety of waiting for my scan, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, of it could be paint fumes as DH is decorating.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend

ja9 · 04/03/2004 23:46

Does anyone else have really bad trapped wind just now? I can hardly get through a meal without stopping to have my back rubbed to be 'burped' baby style. Poor DH never gets peace to eat his food. Ah well, i guess its good practice for him for when baby comes!

Dinny · 05/03/2004 15:07

Congrats in your scan, Ja9. It's just dawned on me that I'm now the 2nd trimester - yippee! Just have to hope that sickness goes away soon! How is everyone else?
