Hi all
Had my nuchal fold scan on Thursday (visitors all weekend, so no chance to post). Glad to hear dinny, niknik ans ja9, all went well.
I was a little anxious as I'm 41, with an age risk of 1in 50. But my measured risk was 1 in 434!!!
Also they,ve brought my dates forward to EDD 1st September. Either the oldest or youngest in school year then.
Pictures were great!! And the baby was wriggling around all the time - precious moments.
MW coming to see me on 9th March - oh how I hate blood tests.
Headaches - I have to give in to paracetomal twice last week - but it was probably anxiety related. Now I've just got a cold, and cough - which is really testing the pelvic floor muscles!! They havn't recovered from dd2 7 months ago!

Dinny · 06/03/2004 11:13

Excellent news, Tillymint. So nice to have scan done isn't it?
I've got the midwife coming to see me on Saturday. Seeing as they do the booking at home now, do they do your bloods I wonder. Or do you go to hospital for that. I'm hoping to get booked for a home birth this time. Wanted one lasttime but dd1 was too early and had to go to hospital.

tillymint · 06/03/2004 22:49

My MW does bloods at home.

May I ask why you want a home birth? It's something I wouldn't consider. And now I couldn't choose (Previous complications), but am intrigued to know what appeals to you about it?

ja9 · 08/03/2004 15:16

where r u all?

highlander · 08/03/2004 17:24

I'm boooooored with this whole pregnancy thing already. The end of September seems like such a long time away. I get up to the loo in the middle of the night and think, 'how the hell am I going to cope with getting up a few times to feed?'

BTW, does the whole cocoa butter moisturiser thing work at preventing stretch marks? I suspect I'm going to be like my sister; she didn't even look preggers until she was about 7 months and then ballooned. She's got the most hideous abdomen I've ever seen - looks like someone has knifed her. Yuk.........

dejags · 08/03/2004 18:25

Hi All,

Glad to hear everybody is doing well and that your scan went well Tillymint.

We have our Nuchal scan tomorrow and I am feeling very nervous after the incident on Monday at the GP's surgery. I will post when I get home to let you know how it went.

Not much in the way of morning sickness happening anymore, although I am incredibly tired in the evenings. I am also a real grumpy witch at work - people are teasing me that they shouldn't "tango" with me when I am pregnant .

Anyway, hope you are all well

Love
Dejags

Dejags - seems your passed all that morning sickness lark.... if my calculations are correct you must be just into the 2nd Trimester? The best one to in!

Highlander - I'm 18wks on Friday and STILL getting up through the night to pee..... twice! Grrrrrrr!
IMHO nothing is going to stop you getting stretchmarks.... if you are prone to them, you'll get them. I have only a few right down at my bikini line. 3 yrs down the line and I can hardly notice them. My Mum has had 4 kids and doesn't have any. One of my friends never got that big at all during her pregnancy and her whole tummy is like a street map!

dejags · 08/03/2004 18:41

M2T,

Nice to hear from you . Yup I am 12+4 so a few days until the end of the first trimester and then hopefully I can start relaxing. I have been stressing about this pregnancy big time

I have some stretch marks but they are very feint/silvery - this despite the fact that I carry HUGELY!!!

I am now starting to show - but still alternating between looking fat and looking pregnant. I find that when I get up in the morning the bump is hardly there but it just gets bigger and bigger during the day - I look 6 months gone some evenings...

I can relate to getting up in the night - I wake up thirsty so have a drink, fall back asleep and then wake up needing a wee. Can't win!!

anyway bye for now...

Quackers · 08/03/2004 18:52

Me too M2T! At leats 2 or 3 times! Thought it was supposed to ease off now!

M2T · 08/03/2004 18:54

I think at first it's the hormones making you pee more.... then later on it's the weight of the baby. I think with us it just seems to have blended into one long spell of constantly needing!

Have any of you noticed that you are MUCH thirstier all the time??

dejags · 09/03/2004 15:02

Hi all,

Just back from my nuchal scan and everything is fine

The baby was very active and it took ages for the sonographers to get accurate measurements - they had to try for about 40 minutes to get a nuchal measurement. By the time they did (2 different sonographers tried)DH and I were starting to worry a little.

Dates are spot on....

Phew, now I can relax and start enjoying this pregnancy.

Hope you are all well

Fab news Dejags.

niknik · 09/03/2004 16:17

So glad the scan went well Dejags

cazzybabs · 09/03/2004 16:24

At the mo I am really really tired. Even walking up the stairs kills me and I am rapidly growing out of my clothes. I have my blood tests next week - although I am in big trouble at the doctors. They told me to phone back when I was 8 weeks preganat after I tried to phone them when I was 7 and a half weeks. But then I was so busy and they have such odd opening hours that I didn't. SO my dp phoned them when I was ten weeks - and oh my god the trouble I have caused. I have to have my blood tests done at 10 weeks - not a day later. So at great trouble I am having them done at 11 weeks - well she should have phoned when she was 8 weeks, what are we going to do know?? God - really!!! So they no doubt are saving the bluntest needle for me.

Distracted · 09/03/2004 16:52

Glad everyone's scans have gone well so far, I've got mine booked now in a week's time (not nuchal fold though, just quick dating scan as part of booking appointment), although it's slightly early at only 11+3 weeks.

Cazzybabs maybe your dp just spoke to someone having a bad day at the surgery - sounds very odd that bloods have to be done at exactly 10 weeks. They're not usually done in most places until booking at 12 weeks, so it can't be that vital. I wouldn't worry, just let them get stressed about it, and don't worry yourself.

Highlander I've known several people swear by baby oil (the J&J Baby Oil Mousse is good) and I did use it through my last pregnancy and was huge, but didn't have a single stretchmark. On the other hand, most people say it's genetic and my mum had no stretch marks either after her first pregnancy (but also swore by baby oil). She did apparently have them after her 2nd though, so I expect I'll get them this time!

I finally plucked up courage to weigh myself and I've already put on 1/2 a stone In my last pregnancy I lost 1/2 a stone in the first trimester, so it's not going well. I put on 2 1/2 stone last time, so could be heading to put on even more this time. Will have to start being careful I suppose, but the morning sickness and current cravings won't let me eat too healthily at the moment (gone off wholemeal bread and pasta for example, has to be white now).

Oh well, this is the last time for me (assuming I go to term ok)!

pollingfold · 09/03/2004 18:34

Great news on the scan dejags, am so jealous of you all with scans, the days down to min seem to be going soooooo sllloooooowwwwlllyyy.

Cazzybabs - don't now why they are stressing about bloods, last time they were taken at 11.5 weeks and this time will be at 13.5 weeks. Thats doctors receptionists for you, always slightly mad (sorry anyone out there that is a dr's receptionist!!)

Creamwise, my DH treats me to Clinques "smooth delivery" or "smooth firming lotion". I'm sure that this does nothing other than break the bank, but it gives me an excuse to take another 5 mins in the bathroom applying it !! No strecth marks on my belly last time, but my boobs (which I didn't cream) are a A-Z road map.

tillymint · 09/03/2004 21:54

Hi all,
Glad to hear no one is feeling FANTASTIC
Its not fair that some people sail thru' while the rest of us, stumble!
Great news from all scans so far, so it all bodes well for the next batch, good luck all first trimesterers
THIRSTY! Never known it so bad. And for the first time I've gone off alcohol. Realy wierd. Getting a taste for Shloer instead.
BLOODS Mine aren't til next week about 15 + weeks.
TIRED Soooooooo tired. Especially at school pick up time. Starting to give dd2 her bottle at 2pm so we can crash together on sofa. Don't really sleep thgat well 'cos am aware of her - but at least I'm resting my eyes.

DDDH has calledme for my tea now. So TTFN

Dinny · 09/03/2004 22:59

Hi everyone - feel like it's ages since I've been on here. I am STILL puking - fed up with it. When will it end....? I'm 14 weeks tomorrow!
Tillymint, re home birth - I'd just prefer to be in the comfort and peace of my own surroundings, you get much better midwife care (team of six community midwives do all antenatal, then two of them are at the birth). Loathed the post-natal ward so much last time - I just want me, dh, dd1 and new baby to curl up in bed together after the birth. It felt so wrong when dd1 was kicked out a couple of hours after the birth last time. Obviously, I would want to be in hospital if any complications.
Highlander - I reckon stretchmarks are hereditary - I didn't put anything on my tummy and didn't get any. Did get a couple on boobs though - they went from pancakes to huge melons, so no wonder!

pupuce · 10/03/2004 16:16

Dejags - have you met the independent midwife ? Are you now reassured?

dejags · 10/03/2004 17:44

Pupuce,

I didn't realise how much independent midwives cost - when I did find out I had to cancel the appointment with independent midwife as we could never afford the fee she charged .

Anyway I did have my booking in appt at the hospital this morning. I asked them to review why I was induced when my BP wasn't very high - the midwife agreed that there didn't seem to be a very good reason as my BP wasn't particularly high.

We discussed a home birth - and she confirmed that the midwifery in my team would be delighted to support it if the pregnancy progresses smoothly. So I think this will be my course of action.

Thanks for thinking of me...

I am glad you are feeling better - and don't forget to post here if you get preganncy threats like last time ! Mears, myself and others can try to give you some food for thoughts on what you may be "offered"!

jacksmumto1 · 12/03/2004 18:26

Hello all! Haven't been around for some time as we've been away.... but glad to hear all is well with everyone... barr the sickness of course!

I've had almost a week of no sickness and only slight heartburn and then it struck again I'd half hoped that I'd had the sickness bit over and done with!! Also the night wee trips started this last week - I'd forgotton how annoying they are but at least the weather is warming up! The tiredness is the worst thing - does it ever improve?! I'm also 'big'! Must sort out maternity clothes this week as I feel so uncomfortable in my tight 'larger' clothes!

I'm seeing the consultant on thursday to discuss having an elective cs, I'm hoping he'll be nice to me and give me a scan at the same time!!!!

bye for now!

jacksmumto1 · 12/03/2004 18:32

Oops forgot to ask.... has anyone felt movements?? Dinny - did you feel any more? I first felt a 'bump bump' very lightly at about 9 weeks and thought afterwards I'd imagined it but no I'm still getting thumps - usually at night when I'm very still.

dinny · 12/03/2004 18:39

Hi, Jacksmumto1! Nice to see you back - where have you been? Somewhere nice, I hope.

Yes, I've been feeling more movements - not that regular but the odd clunk here and there. Have suddenly developed a little bump too.

Good luck with your consultant. Hi to everybody else. D
