We want to find out whether it's a boy or a girl at 20 weeks. We did last time - partly because I can't bear the thought of the person doing the scan knowing something about MY baby that I don't know!
My little girl (who is four and who we have just told about me being pregnant) looked at the 12w scan photo and said she thinks it's a little girl because she can't see a willy!
I have no clue whether it's girl or boy and really don't mind, just excited about being pregnant :-)

squidkid · 10/04/2012 19:57

Hello.... er I'm in bed at 7.30pm, what a rock star eh...
Job is busy.
Still want bump.
Happy to read about all the good scans.
Very very sad for poor jodidi. Also where is bettybat? Hope she is ok.
Wasted the whole easter weekend being anxious about stupid job. Just have to do a day at a time. Today was busy and had no break but did manage to eat a sandwich in the doctor's office... 13 hr shift tomorrow so we shall see how that goes. I couldn't eat or sleep during night shifts at the best of times, so I am really low at the thought of weeks of nights etc. I still have to phone my union. But I hate being a troublemaker. meh. Smileyhappymummy did you do the full on call rota? I think I'm going to have to use my annual leave to give myself "weekends" where there aren't any...
I don't know if I'm going to find out if it's a boy or girl yet. If I do I don't think I'll tell anyone.
I thought I felt my baby a few days ago but I might have imagined it.

16 weeks today... oh, so tired!

Angelico · 10/04/2012 20:15

Hey peeps :)

Welcome to Smiley and Katie :o We are getting bigger! (Kind of like the bumps).

Yomping I really sympathise with the whole telling friends predicament - I had one very good friend who it was dreadful telling as they have been trying for over a year and getting really stressed about it. Just told her on the phone in the end, as advised by twolittlemonkeys who had been on the other side of it. I think you were as sensitive as you could be about it. x

Congrats to all happy scanners! :o I finally have first AN appt on Friday so will be good to actually meet the Consultant (for all of 30 seconds no doubt! Wink)

Squid please don't be afraid to contact your union and find out what your rights are - that's what you're paying them for. Don't worry about being seen as a 'trouble maker' - ffs you are only watching out for yourself and your bean! How the hell are you supposed to be worrying about patients when you are worrying about your own health?! They need to make some kind of allowance for you surely - you don't sound like someone trying to take the piss, just someone trying to survive placement AND pregnancy!

Gender thing is interesting - pre-preg I wanted a girl but am convinced I am having a boy and very happy about it. Happy about either now tbh as long as bean arrives safely without mangling me too much :o

Also got some v exciting news today - my book is hopefully being picked up by a v large publisher! Really thrilled about it and keeping fingers crossed for a decent advance - it would really help with the sucky maternity pay! Wink

Heading off to see Hunger Games here if we can get in - tried to go this afternoon and cinema was like a refugee camp, abandoned vehicles and screaming kids everywhere, not a mission!

Didn't do night shifts (only because there was only 1 O+G sho on overnight so you had to be able to go to theatre and I kept fainting evey time I stood up for more than about 10 mins so not much use in theatre!). To compensate for that I did more long days instead so still had weeks of 9am to 10pm days which were tough going. I did what you're thinking of doing and used annual leave to give myself "weekends" rather than proper chunks of time off. Definitely worth talking to bma and that's not being a troublemaker, it's looking after yourself and your baby which is the most important thing you can do right now.
Good luck!

Midgetm · 10/04/2012 20:38

Evening all, hurrah for scans and nearly scans.

squid talk to the BMA, worrying yourself sick no good for you. Put you and the bean first.

Got my NT tomorrow. Already couldn't sleep last night so god knows what I'll be like tonight. Thank god it's an early appointment. Sleep well bean ovens.

smileyhappymummy · 10/04/2012 21:56

I keep nosing lurking on this thread and now I'm feeling guilty for not posting (I've been posting on the other Oct 2012 thread in antenatal clubs) so I thought maybe I should say hi. I'm 14w+4 pg with DC2 (already have 2yo DD), 30yo and live in N. London. Had scan last week and all looks fine.

Good luck to those with scans today :)

milk · 11/04/2012 10:19

Good luck Mickey :)

Midgetm · 11/04/2012 10:24

Thanks for Your well wishes smiley and Beeble. Bean would not coperate do took ages, some lucozade and some pelvic tilts, jumping an walking. In the end got the money shot and a remarkably low measurement for an old bird like me. Not got the combined results yet but scanner said all looking very positive. Yay yay and thrice yay. Won't count my chickens but looking all good! So relieved I nearly burst into tears. Hope yours goes well Mickey the short one. Hope I can sleep tonight now.

Had to half emply my bladder. Amazed my pelvic floor is still up to that business x happy happy smile smile.

Angelico · 11/04/2012 11:48

Yay midget (and vair vair impressive the ould half a bladder thing - respect!!!)! And good luck mickey! And hello MissPenteuth, drop in any time :o

Anyone else ever get 'addicted' to a song and have to listen to it a million times until it somehow gets into you? Or is it just me?! The song, if you're interested is that Gotye one 'Somebody that I used to know'. Sat up till 04:30 Blush blogging, emailing, writing - and yes, listening to that song on repeat whilst singing along. DH woke me this morning by singing "Do you want some breakfast angelico, heard you singing last night, you woke me up, la la laaaaa". It was quite funny. I do revert to teenage behaviour in holidays Blush. In my defence I think it makes it easier writing teen stuff if I can get into their heads... :o

Knackered today though. Mad late night + pregnancy = exhausted Angelico. We have a dinner to go to tonight (I look v bumpy in dress so DH told people I was pregnant) and there are lots of Chinese guests, just over from China for a few days. Apparently they are very reverential towards pregnant women, because of the whole limits on children (they can have more than one child but they are taxed to death on them). Should be interesting...!

Have a good day ladies! x

milk · 11/04/2012 15:25

Anyone know what time Mickey's scan was?

Angelico · 11/04/2012 15:26

I know, I've been checking in too! Where are you Mickey? :o

OP posts:
nenehooo · 11/04/2012 17:32

Ah angelico great news about the book! You have to let us know what happens so we can read it... Or maybe sign some copies for us?! And I was listening to that song on repeat in the car about a month ago... Literally for an hour's journey!!! Now on to ed sheeran - I also revert to teenage behaviour quite often Grin
In other news, I'm feeling less sick and tired and... I have a definite bump!!! Admittedly it's only whew I'm lying down and suck my stomach in, but it's DEFINITELY there Grin Grin Grin
Also thinking of jodidi and sending lots of love x

Midgetm · 11/04/2012 17:56

So busy freakin out didn't say congratulations to you Angelico and thanks for bein suitably impressed with the half bladder trick. X

Zara1984 · 11/04/2012 18:47

congratulations Angelico that's really big news! WOW! Defo let us know what happens and where we can buy. Then when you are famous like JK Rowling we can spill the beans to the Mail about you being on our MN preggo thread. Grin

Maybe this is more suited to AIBU section but what do you all think about, erm, recycling unwanted pet toys for baby...?? It hopefully sounds worse than it is. My spoilt rotten two cats have got way more toys than they use - some of which are actually baby toys from Ikea. In particular a carrot shaped rattle, a bat puppet, a large stuffed soft white rat/mouse. If I wash them it should be ok... right??? Otherwise they'll go to charity and I hate things going to waste and wasting money!! Or is that really really bad???

I is well frugal. Today I convinced myself to start cycling to work after 3 weeks off for hols etc by remember that it would cost ?80 a month in bus/train fares otherwise.

MickeyTheShortOne · 11/04/2012 18:52

Hi ladies!! Thanks for all the support, the scan was lovely, I didn't cry I'm so proud of myself!!!! Strong heartbeat, however I am not as far gone as the doctor thought I was (although I knew that already Hmm ) and I am in fact 9 weeks and 6 days! Which means that I'm not due til the 8th november... Pretty please may I stay in this thread? I feel like I know you all :) It looks like a shrimp, DP has been laughing at me all afternoon.... Lovely sonographer let me take a pic on my phone as they had no paper to print the picture on Hmm so I have been proudly showing it off to everyone I have seen this afternoon. Sorry it took so long to get back to you all!! Congratulations to Midgetm and anyone else i have missed..
Love to all :D xx

MickeyTheShortOne · 11/04/2012 18:53

Oooh and congratulations on the book news Angelico, great stuff!!! x

milk · 11/04/2012 18:57

I vote MickeyTheShortOne stays Grin

Zara1984 · 11/04/2012 18:58

I am going to brave AIBU and find out if I'm a bad mother

Zara1984 · 11/04/2012 18:59

Congrats Mickey!! That's really lovely! And you are of course welcome to stay on the thread. I'm due 26 Oct so knowing my luck I could be giving birth around the same time as your due date anyway!!

MickeyTheShortOne · 11/04/2012 19:02

Thanks guys :D
Zara I think it should be fine, if they're washed (I'd recommend a 90 degree though) then I can't see what harm it would do. I don't think a few cat hairs are going to do much harm! x

YompingJo · 11/04/2012 19:03

Mickey, don't go! Stay here! Congratulations on the scan - it's so lovely to see the alive and well and moving!. Midget, congratulations too! Great news!

Angelico, blimey, I feel a bit "we're not worthy" - you is a proper writer and everything!

Zara, no, that doesn't sound at all bad - recycling is all good. I'd do the same thing, anyway, although that may not be any guarantee that it's a good thing to do as I am a bit of a skank sometimes very frugal too!

I had NHS scan today, baby was much more active this time, waving and wriggling around! They couldn't do the NT test but took blood for the quad test which I should hear about in a few days if there's any issue. I am also taking part in a trial about vit. D supplements in pregnancy so I feel very virtuous! The doctor there told me she had seen a programme about "unusual parenting" and one woman had had her placenta made into a smoothie Shock. DH (who isn't feeling well today) nearly gagged! It made me wonder, what is everyone's thoughts regarding placentas after birth? Is anyone planning on eating it/making it into a smoothie/having it dried and turned into an ornament? I don't think I'll do anything out of the ordinary with mine, I'm not very brave, but I'm pretty awed by people who do!
