Sastra- never too late Grin welcome :)

HaggisNeepsTatties · 19/05/2012 14:19

Yay - feeling baby Haggis for the first time (for definite anyway) today! Happened whilst drinking an ice cold can of Lemon SanPelligrino (Must have been the cold and sugar!)

Also did my first pregnancy yoga class today - really enjoyed it and will be going back! Feel very connected with my baby today after that and feeling movement!

And the sun is shining!

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday x

Beccus · 19/05/2012 14:33

I hope so, Fjordmor; i am planning to save it up to use to calm down little bubs during lengthy baby meltdowns. I dont think i could cope hearing one song on repeat for 20 mins!
Welcome Sastra, congrats on feeling movements, HaggisNeepsTatties, i hope u r bringing some of those san pelligrinos to the party, they are yummy! :)

YompingJo · 19/05/2012 14:38

Zoe, :o:o:o at Anal Joy! I shouldn't laugh... but I did, lots.

Wow, that was a great party - and I don't even feel hungover, result. Don't miss that, actually, (funnily enough!) although I do miss being a bit drunk sometimes Blush.

DameFlat, my scan's Monday too!

Well I am officially giving myself the day off today - so we've been to the gym, been into town and now I'm bored! A bit too sleepy to sit and read books which is what I'd normally do. Not sure what else to do with myself. Ah well.

Happy weekend, everyone x

GingerDoodle · 19/05/2012 14:44

Morning all! My search for a new coat has ended! I gave up with the (hideous) maternity offerings on ebay and found a Next wrap on there instead - for £3.94 I am quite chuffed :)

La bump played ball and I used my doppler last night and this morning - great sound first thing in the morning :)

Guccigirl79 · 19/05/2012 22:10

Ooooo we're gonna need a new thread soon! Who's up for sorting that?! I'm not the best for it as not that clever on a pooter lol

Congrats to all those with news of pink or blue Grin really pleased for you all :)

Had busy few days hence my silence on here, been to babyshow today & am knackered & not really sure it was worth it.Bought one item, went expecting to be able to get all sorts for really good prices but alot of it was more expensive than where I have already found said items. It was worth going for advice from a really lovely fella on puschair & car seat that we've narrowed it down to.I accosted some poor fella there as he was close to DP's height & he was still too short lol!!Though I have found what I think is best now.I did however, get some reusable babywipes which is very new-age & unlike me but I just loved the idea so let's hope it works out!!

Going back to preferred gender I was chatting with my Dade other day & he was asking what did I rather & can honestly say I dont mind which but would like to know as I think it takes away half the ball-ache of deciding whats what & my Dad replied 'It doesnt matter which it is it'll be a racing driver & grow up in the garage just like you!!' Bless him he does make me smile Grin

Morning all!

baccus and fjord I love the idea of a bump song! We had a bump story last time to get the baby used to his Daddy's voice and it is still a firm fave. Although the story is 'Burglar Bill' which is a classic so it might just be that

ha ha at anal joy! Oh my gosh, what a poor boy! Has finding out the sex sparked off more name choosing conversations in your hhouses, post 20 weekers?

Lisbeth thanks for commenting on my work issue. It is a very complicated one because teaching isnt an easy job to do part time. I really feel that three days away from ds is the maximum I can cope with, but at some points I feel like I do both jobs, home and work, badly. But then, I used to be someone who would work until whatever time, in order to get everything perfect and that isnt an option anymore when I have to pick ds up at a certain time. As for the role ambiguity thing, my colleague is paid appropriately for his contribution, it isnt really clear cut who does what. But he just does lots of organisational stuff when I am not there and this week only he got called to planning meeting with the head when usually I would always go too. I dont know if this is because I am not going to be there next year, so the head thinks it wasnt relevant to me. But either way, I am not in a good position and am dreading work on Monday.

Tha k you also for sharing about your emotional day Lisbeth, how are you feeling now? Did it pass? I hope so. My emotional explosion occured last night- our landlord arranged to come round on Thur so I duly had the place spotless. He didnt come and instead came last night at 8.45pm when we were in the middle of a big sort out and there was mess everywhere. Dh could not understand why I cared, but I hate the way he jjust drops in as he chooses when he is supposed to give us 24 hour notice. And I am terrified he will think we dont look after his house and kick us out. So, once he had gone I burst into noisy sobs! Talk about crazy pregnancy hormone over-reaction! Poor dh thinks I am mad. Then ds has had me up since 4.20am so I feel like death!

Sorry for the whinge all, but it is so good to talk to people who will understand. Dh tries his best, but even the second time around I think it is all a mystery to him.

Hope you are all having a nice weekend xxx

applecrumple · 20/05/2012 09:21

Just thought I'd say hi, my first is due 7 oct.

WantAnOrange · 20/05/2012 09:49

Hello applecrumple, have you had your 20 week scan yet?

applecrumple · 20/05/2012 09:55

I have - last thurs. everything is fine & we think we're having a girl - well the sonographers exact words were "I can't see any obvious boy bits" which made us laugh a bit!

DameFlatYouLent · 20/05/2012 11:12

Hello applecrumple & sastra!

bella your landlord is completely out of order - I understand why that would stress you out so much. Did you remind him that he'd said he was going to come at a different time, and your rights as a tenant? What a dick. It's hard to get perspective when you're knackered too - 4.20 is blardy early. Do you think the birds wake your DS up?

I'm shattered too - in the past week my insomnia has got much worse. It doesn't help that my bump had suddenly appeared and now I can't get comfy in bed at all. This time last week I was sleeping on my tummy (my favourite position) - now I can't, and lying on my side gives me achey shoulders and hips. Whinge.

I'm seeing the osteo for my pelvis tomorrow, as DH has the day off for our scan. Scan is in the afternoon - very nervous about it.

Zoe Anal Joy has surely got to be illegal! (um, as a name I mean, not as a....um....pastime) Especially with a Swedish mother - they have strict rules over there! Or are they living here? In which case Shock Shock Poor poor boy!

Londonmrss · 20/05/2012 12:07

I read an article on the tinterweb about unfortunate baby names. The best was a couple in New Zealand who named their baby after the conception location- Number Six Bus Shelter.
True story.

Beeblebear · 20/05/2012 15:06

well here is something new. Woke up last night with severe pain in my upper right abdomen. Like being stabbed right through my back with a large knifr.

If I had to guess, it was likely a gallbladder attack. I'd say an 8.5\10 on tne pain scale. Lasted about 45 min, and I had meatloaf with mashed potato and gravy at a reastaurant for dinnet, so super high fat.

Both my parents habe had their gallbladdersout. Do u think this is wnat it could be? Any experience anyone?

T+inking of ringing my gp after the hol weekend and asking him to add a gallbladder scan to my ultrasound requisition for this thursday.

YompingJo · 20/05/2012 17:03

mmm applecrumble... I'm going to crave dessert every time you post!

We have found our doula, having met 2, one of them seems much calmer and more down to earth, with just the right amount of hippy thrown in. Was able to advise us on all sorts of stuff and is the sort of person we'd both be happy to have around.

I am very chilled today having said "sod it" to work and had the whole weekend off. Saw PILs this morning, dinner at BIL & SIL tonight, hot sex followed by a walk along the river this morning (but no ducklings - how late are the ducklings this year Shock) then croissants for breakfast which DH sliced for me as I get into a strop if I try to slice them and I end up decimating them instead. I could get used to this "no work" thing - roll on maternity leave Grin

Beeble, no advice to give you, but giving you some Thanks instead and hoping you feel better soon. Sounds worrying, hope you manage to get it checked out.

Bella, I understand your tears, I would have been the same.

YompingJo · 20/05/2012 17:06

PS if anyone wants a laugh, by OK Go is amazing, as is if you haven't already seen it.

WantAnOrange · 20/05/2012 17:57

applecrumple congrats on having a girl!

YompingJo what is it exactly that a doula does? Are they expensive?

Had a lovely afternoon. Roast dinner with my boys then went to watch the Olympic torch go past. DS is very excited and wants to go again next week Hmm.

I am counting down the days until my scan on wednesday.

Is anyone else feeling a little down about being huge their changing body shape? I have some nice enough maternity clothes but I look so different, I don't feel like myself at all. I don't know how to dress this new shape and not look like a potato. And I no longer fit into my very favourite Jack Skellington hoodie. Sad

On the up side, baby is moving a lot. I'm feeling it several times a day which is so reasuring.

Kyyria · 20/05/2012 18:26

I have started a new thread if people want to head over: Due in October 2012 - part 5

FjordMor · 20/05/2012 19:04

Thanks Kyyria - link to thread here - so my baby brain can find it later Wink :)

YompingJo · 21/05/2012 06:40

(dammit, I'm going to use up this old thread until we have hit the 1000 post limit!)

WantAnOrange, I'm finding it hard too. Some days I feel kind of one with the bump and like tops that cling and show it off. Some days I just feel fat and want to hide under hoodies (bummer about your hoodie, could you get one in a couple of sizes up to see you through?). I'm going for leggings and tunic style tops, dresses or maxi skirts at the moment, at home, and A-line skirts with tights, boots and generously or usefully-cut tops at work.

Know what you mean about feeling movement - it makes it feel real which I like, and it's reassuring, as you say - at least there's some feedback now, some indication that it's there!

A doula is a woman who supports you through the pregnancy and birth, and who will be there through the birth. Someone who is there for you, as well as your DH, partner, birthing partner, or whoever else you are having, and who is not a medical professional. Sort of like your mum, but I wouldn't in a million years have my mum there. She can help you sort a birth "plan", work through options, work out preferences, be totally prepared, and help you make sure things go your way as much as they can on the day. I think having someone like this will help me to feel calm, and as in control as I possibly can, and will also help DH to know how to be involved and to not panic when he sees me in pain, which is a big thing because otherwise he will be very stressed and worried and this will lead to me being stressed and worried and that will possible lead to a longer labour. This is all unproven but does make sense to me. The one we have chosen is lovely, seems very well informed and knowledgeable but also very personable and laid back and calm. Prices range from £250 (usually for someone who is in training and being mentored) to £500. This includes visits before the birth, 4 weeks of being on call around the due date and a visit after. You can also have a postnatal doula who visits a few times afterwards and does things to help. More info here

Scan today, very exciting, although not looking forward to the full bladder aspect of it. DameFlat, hope yours goes well too!
