Thanks yomping I keep just looking at the scan and comparing it to DD's. Seems so much more real.
I thought I wouldn't be able to have the NT but in the end they managed it. I certainly do not plan on doing anything with the placenta. Someone suggested burryig it in the garden but would be too gross if the dog dug it up!

mickey of course you can stay.
At 9 weeks there is so much less to actually see and it is much more shrimp like (rude DH!). At least you know the HB is strong, that in itself is so reassuring. Will you still get a 12 week scan anyway so you can still have all the tests?

Missp welcome to the thread. Well I am knackered all that freaking out about Ny results sure does take it out of a girl! Bed soon for this bean oven.

Twobuttonsaway · 11/04/2012 20:19

Good evening ladies, do you mind if I rejoin the gang? I was around in the early days but then decided to keep quiet to avoid contaminating the thread with worrying... MMC last Sept has made me a big worry wort this time around. Anyway, I too had my scan today, Midwife could obviously tell that DH and I were petrified so she got going really quickly and little one was there wriggling away, such a huge relief I wanted to kiss the sonographer! All looks good and NT "looked well within normal range" and she has brought forward my EDD to 16 Oct.

Congrats to other scan-buddies today, good luck to those still to come.

nenehooo · 11/04/2012 20:35

Congrats on your scan Mickey, and I hope you're right that a few cat hairs won't do much harm... we have a very long haired Ginger cat (part Maine Coon so also giant) and his hair is everywhere, always! A ball of ginger fluff will float like tumbleweed across that floor about half an hour after I've hoovered, drives me mental!!!

MickeyTheShortOne · 11/04/2012 21:31

Thanks everyone :)
Midget We've opted not to have the tests so I won't see them again until the 19th June for my 20 week scan. Where will also not find out what the sex is... Although I am starting to think I'm having a boy. I don't know... I was looking at having a private one so I wouldn't have to wait so long but at £95 a shot I can't even justify it!
Congrats on your scan twobuttonsaway and.. welcome back :)

I don't pretend to be an expert as I could be completely wrong nenehooo, but we have a very long haired dog so there's going to be hair around no matter how often I hoover. Surely it builds up the immune system right? Confused I'll do my best but the amount of things that could get near a baby I don't think animal hair would be the worst :)

Midgetm · 11/04/2012 21:46

You are very patient Mickey. We nearly didnt have the test either. When the bean would t coperate I thought it was a sign that I shouldn't bother.

DD used to sometimes take food out the dogs bowl. Luckily only dried food but it never did her any (lasting) damage. (that we know of). I think it's healthy having hairy pets in the house.

Midgetm · 11/04/2012 21:49

And welcome twobuttons and congratulations on the scan and feeling confident enough to post.

Guccigirl79 · 11/04/2012 22:23

Congrats to Midget & Mickey on your scans & also to Angelico on your exciting book!! :)

So nice to see everyone doing well & welcome to the newbies :)

Had a day or two off the pooter so I couldnt google (not my friend I know) as Iwas seeing the consultant today & have been winding myself up something chronic!! Anyway it turns out that the risk of me having a DVT from my blood problem very minimal so no daily injections for me (yay) however,it doesnt make it ruled out as it could still happen so just need to look for warning signs if need be.I cannot tell you all how relieved I am!!!! When I told my friend tonight she squeezed me sooo hard & got a bit emotional it was so nice to have that reception as she knew how frightened I was about the whole thing!!

That's enough of me rambling just wanted to share my relief, hope you lovely ladies are having a nice evening.Check in tomorrow night all :)

Angelico · 12/04/2012 00:47

Yay!!! A great scan day all round! Congrats to Mickey, Yomping and Twobuttons - mucho joy on your collective behalfs :o And Gucci great news about low risk of clotting - that must have been really scary, wondering if that was going to happen! :( At least your mind is a bit more at rest AND you've had good advice on what to look out for.

Zara I reckon if you boil wash the toys they will be fine - or maybe you could put away some of them and give them to DCt (darling catlets :o) to spoil them when bean arrives and steals some of their thunder? Cats are maddening with toys - we've stopped buying them as our catlets will ignore their toys completely but happily spend hours 'killing' a scrunched up Lindt wrapper around the floor Hmm

squid hope you are okay and not in the middle of an 80 hour shift or some such madness Confused

Thanks so much for good book wishes :) Very excited - offer and 'marketing plan' coming through on Friday (the 13th - eeeeeek!). Also ante-natal appt day. Hoping it's good news all round as have been feeling a bit Confused at prospect of not earning for a year and would be nice to have a stash in the bank for lattes nappies :o

Midgetm · 12/04/2012 07:05

Excellent news Guccigirl I had to jab them for a short while and although you get used to it they sting like bugger and leave little bruises. Must be such a relief that it's not necessary. X

milk · 12/04/2012 09:13

35 days till my next scan Grin Good morning by the way :P

Zara1984 · 12/04/2012 10:39

Waiting waiting waiting for the midwife to arrive for my booking in appointment...!!

DH agrees on recycling a few of the unused cat toys, after putting them through a boil wash etc. Grin by the looks of AIBU thread I'm either completely sensible or downright neglectful. Grin Blush

Angelico · 12/04/2012 11:56

Zara just checked your AIBU thread. My favourite one was where the lady was all concerned about the cats because of the poisonous flame retardant stuff in the baby toys :o A valid point no doubt but she was like, "Oh yeah, baby'll be fine - but the CATS on the other hand...!" :o

OP posts:
GingerDoodle · 12/04/2012 12:22

zara this REALLY made me smile. I have 6 cats ranging for 19 year old grandma, to 1 1/2 year old nutty kitten. All long haired bar 2.

When we told my MIL who dislikes cats with a passion I was waiting for the 'you'll need to get rid of the cats' comment that never really came so was fairly impressed.

Mine have far to many toys but the younger ones do actually play with most of them.

Back to your post - I probably won't for the reason above but don't see any real reason why not!

Sedgers · 12/04/2012 14:01

I've just come back from the hospital after having my 12 week scan. I was very nervous this morning, but thankfully our little one is developing normally. The image was really clear (thanks to me puking all the time resulting in a wierdly flat stomach), and allowed for a very thorough going over, so we've really had the best news we could have had at this stage!

It was really amazing to see it moving around and its little heart beating away. My DH thinks it's a boy as it seemed to favour what he likes to call the rugby goal scoring stance, with its hands up to its face, feet together and knees bent :)

I've been feeling sick as a dog this week, squirming and nauseas all day at work and throwing up when I get home after the commute back from London, so to see what all the effort has been for has been a real lift and I am pretty much delirious with happiness today (depite still feeling sick:))!! It's all worth it!!

Congratulations to all those who have also just had their scans and good luck for those still to have them!xxx

Sedgers · 12/04/2012 14:02

Ooh, I forgot - 11 weeks + 5/ 1st baby

Smorgs · 12/04/2012 14:20

Congrats on the positive scans ladies, it's great to hear.

beeble I'm so embarrassed I thought you meant maternity pants, as in knickers, but I get the impression you meant trousers. Silly Smorgs Blush. Is there even such a thing as maternity knickers?! Be a good idea if so.

Zara Definitely start cycling! I was cycling in to work before my contract finished and it made me feel amazing and I had so much more energy. I spent the last few days pottering around the house and feel exhausted.

Yomping I plan on avoiding making eye contact with the placenta at all costs. I can appreciate how amazing it is but really, a smoothie? Just the thought makes me retch! Apparently January Jones off of Mad Men ate hers shudder

Midgetm · 12/04/2012 14:28

Another healthy scan, we are on a roll. Makes you smile all day doesn't it? X

Smorgs · 12/04/2012 14:46

Well done Midget! Forgot to say, please stay on this thread...

lisbethsopposite · 12/04/2012 16:02

Jodidi I cried when I read your news. I know it's my raging hormones - you have loads of empathy and sympathy going your way.
I just spoke with a lovely midwife as I had a little spotting today and I had decided at 14 wks not to worry about it. Anyway your news frightened me and I rang and was reassured that all was well. I want to send you a virtual hug that you are not in the same place.
There is some talk on here about scanning for abnormalities, perhaps Mother Nature knew something that you did not. I don't know if that consoles you any. God bless.
Sad Thanks

lisbethsopposite · 12/04/2012 16:07

Squidkid Sounds like you are very worried. Maybe just try to take it a day at a time and trust your body to tell you what it can and can't do.
Sounds like your heel is better so look on the bright side.

Mikey glad you got your way - well done, or at leastyou were heard regarding the Sundays. I hope she sticks to that now and keeps you free Sundays.

lisbethsopposite · 12/04/2012 16:11

I went shopping today and bought 2 pairs of mat trousers - size 16 in H&M and size 12 in Mothercare. I bought the 16s first and got a fright, so was relieved the 12s fit in Mothercare. I was begining to feel very guilty about the Easter chocolate Blush but then I got over it Grin.

Best of luck all you other bean ovens Wink

londonlivvy · 12/04/2012 19:58

Hi Everyone!

I've been on hols for a week so sure I've missed lots of news! We had a fantastic time hiking (only about two hours a day - nowhere near Squid's level of dynamism!) and sleeping and reading books and OH it was lovely. So great not to be at work and not to have to pretend to be fine on the days when frankly was not fine. And to be able to be more dynamic on good days. YAY YAY YAY.

Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow - usual post-hols blues, particularly as our flat buyers have pulled out so no new house plans either. BOO. Ah well, it's not like we're sleeping in the street.

My scan is a week tomorrow - I cannot wait!!!

36, 11+2, #1

DameFlatYouLent · 12/04/2012 20:12

As I recall lisbeth H&M sizing is diabolical - the size of the jeans I bought from them when I was last pg absolutely horrified me to the point where I actually had to cut the label out. Still a size 12 everywhere else! - but size EIGHTEEN in H&M!! WTF?!

MrsConfusion · 12/04/2012 20:22

Argh computer just restarted itself after typing long post! Stupid machine. Angry

Yay to everyone with good scan news and pictures and having met their little wrigglers - sounds like we're growing lots of lively beans! :)

We've been telling various bits of family, all v thrilled and excited which is lovely and feel v guilty for worrying about telling people. Can finally tell boss on Monday, then my team and then stop having to hide tummy behind big cardigans/run away to hide in loos when I go green or grey or need a 30 sec nap. My brain is totally AWOL at the moment, just can't seem to get things done. Blush

Yomping placenta will go to medical research if they want it (medical trial happening here) as I'm not allowed to give blood so it'd be nice to give something. Definitely not eating!!
squid do get in touch with your union, you're not making a fuss you're being a good future-mum and looking after yourself and bean. Try to take each hour at a time.
zara cycling is good although I tend to feel a bit dizzy after so have barred myself from using the higher gears (I'm usually a bit of a racer) and tend to need a sit-down afterwards. We've got cats too and given the amount of hair usually on me and DH, we reckon the baby will have to get used to cat hair pretty quickly!

Right, hitting send before PC wipes this again. Sleep well all you sleepy bean-ovens.

londonlivvy · 12/04/2012 20:38

Right ? done a bit of back reading!

So sorry to hear re jodidi - may good luck come your way very soon.

Zara and Orange - DF and I are divided about Down?s. He thinks it wouldn?t be quality of life for the child and it would drive us apart. I?m not so sure it would be the end of the world. Very nervous about scan + blood results. Eek.

Am not in maternity stuff though I did buy a bigger pair of jeans in TK Maxx to tide me over for this odd not-quite-showing-but-not-the-same-size period. £16.99 seemed like a bargain, though since DF put them in a boil wash (90oC!) the lycra has died and I?m wearing a pair of unflattering baggy things. Sigh!

Yay re happy scan Zara and Mickey and twobuttonsaway and Sedgers that?s ace.

squid I hope work sorts itself out. I?m dreading return tomorrow ? no more siestas when feeling exhausted! Boo.

Angelico that?s FAB news. Well done you. Is your book fact or fiction?

Hi Miss Penteuth and welcome.

And re cat toys, Zara I?d buy some Milton fluid and you?ll be great.

Yomping you made me chuckle about the placenta thing. Apparently every NCT group has at least one couple who are determined to eat the placenta. I think I?ll just leave it with the hospital to do whatever they want. My sister kept hers for my mum (apparently they are very health-giving and mum is ill with heart disease etc) but mum wimped out of eating it and planted it under the tree in the garden instead!
