Is pregnancy screwing up anyone else's teeth??? I normally have perfect teeth (no cavaties or fillings, extreme paranoia due to years of painful ortho work including having braces TWICE as a teen!). On one of my back molars there's a tiny black dot. It will not brush away!!! It definitely only appeared after I got pregnant as it was not there when I saw my ortho 2 weeks before BFP.

Scaring myself enough to get thee to a dentist tomorrow.

Pregnancy-induced cavity, or pregnancy-induced paranoia??

Zoeplankton · 17/04/2012 22:27

Yay for squidkid!

CWest30 · 17/04/2012 22:28

yompingjo are u still in Northampton? If so I live very close, small world!

So the news today is, I think I'm getting a bump!! Only 10 wks 5 day but belly has a definate round shape and sticking out. Have told most people at work now as dont think I will be able to hide it for much longer.....do people think this is too early though? It is my second pg, I am 4"11 and before and after I had my first child, I only weighed 6.5 stone! When did you ladies start to show, esp in pg no 2?

Just wrote a long post and was kicked off when I pressed post - arrrgh!!

Here's a condensed version as I now feel sick:

Have finally caught up on all posts from the weekend. I haven't posted because I've been feeling awful, and have been puking at work, or at home after the long commute back from London. I'm using up all my annual leave because I just cannot cope with a full week at work, so off today and tomorrow - Hurrah!

I think it was GucciGirl who mentioned the lemonade ice-lolly. When I finally get off this sofa and to the shop, that's exactly what I will be buying :)

Squid - brilliant news about the improvement to your working conditions! Result!

Kyyria - congrats on your scan - makes it all so real. Sorry about the office politics but you always get those who do not have enough excitement in their lives who make up for it by having a good winge! You have bigger fish to fry :)

Fyord - you truly are a Trojan! Speaking from direct experience of being a terrible teen, they can be completely selfish, unreasonable and emotional, however do eventually grow up and realise the error of their ways! Hopefully you new little one's arrival will help with a change of mood. Sounds like you are taking the best approach, which is to rise above it all.

Angelico - hope the discharge thing turns out to be completely normal. I get discharge all the time, although I don't smell it (everything sets me off puking), it all seems very natural.

I also have made some New Look purchases (work clothes and some maternity skinny jeans). They have a good and reasonably priced collection. My clothes are just starting to feel a bit tight, so probably not a moment too soon!

Knitting went really well at the weekend. So far I've knitted a cashmerino baby scarf, a little bag to pop cotton wool etc in, and am making good headway on a cashmerino baby sweater. My DH doesn't quite realise that these are all patterns for beginners and has asked me to knit him a Norwegian style sweater - eek!

Right finally going to get of this sofa and to the shop!!

Midgetm · 18/04/2012 12:40

Angelico glad the AF is looking ok. Does sound like a little leak but hopefully it won't happen again. Sorry you have had such a stressful time of it.

Squid Yay - common sense saves the day.

Guccigirl I still hate you as I still havent got those bloody lollies from the shop...

And a belated Yomping Happy anniversary.

zara my guess would be paranoia - thought gums more likely to be affected so early on but hey - go and make use of your free treatment just to be on teh safe side.

Kyyria some people always have something to say. That is why i am putting off telling work. although wont be able to for much longer. Fjord I am showing so don't be jealous - I am just hiding it very craftily - not sure how much longer I can do this for but really enjoying it not being public knowledge so I do feel for you Kyyria

better go bloody late for work and on leave for a few days. need to pack my case, get my arse into work and then trek up north after dragging myself to Chelsea v Barcelona. Knackered just thinking about it but cant wait for the break. x

londonlivvy · 18/04/2012 13:18

Zara I?ve always had quite a few fillings (oops) but I would get along to the dentist as Midget suggests just to be sure. Hope the news is good and it?s just a random dark patch though.
Kyrria Good on you for rising above work gossip. Whilst I want to tell my boss (more for ease of going to ante-natal appts than anything else) I don?t want to tell anyone else as they?re all really young.
Well done you on the knitting Sedgers, I?m hoping a friend of mine will do the honours as I?m rubbish with stuff like that. Not coordinated and not patient! Particularly impressive given you?re feeling gross and have a big commute. Can you knit on the train to take your mind off it?
Zoe am interested re these re-useable nappies but not sure how much faff they really are. But noted that I should read up a bit more about it.
On the alcohol-free drink front, I can recommend Becks Low Alcohol beer and Cobra. Not Stella Artois low alcohol or kaliber (both have horrid after taste). My mum reckons the low-alcohol bitberger is the best. Does anyone know of any low / no alcohol wines that are drinkable?
FjordMor I hope things are working out with the teenage hormones ok.
Squid am delighted that you?ve found a compromise. That?s absolutely brilliant!
2 days to go til the scan. Yay... (but eek at the same time!)

Kyyria · 18/04/2012 13:32

I can't remember who asked now but the alcohol free cider I had was Kopparberg Pear Cider - bought it from Tescos.

FjordMor · 18/04/2012 17:11

Hello everyone :)

Angelico - so pleased they didn't find anything

squid - hoorah! very very pleased you've sorted your impossible work situation. Hope you enjoyed your yoga :)

Yomping - Firstly I hope your poor ankle is ok and secondly, congratulations on your anniversary! Thanks. No apologies necessary about the slap - I felt like giving her one myself once I realised the extent of how shallow some of her concerns were. However, it feels like a massive deal to her & she doesn't know life or how trivial some things are in the scheme of things. Only age and experience shows you that.

Zara1984 - thanks :). Actually I am a pretty patient person although this week has felt pretty trying... but I think I've been through so much in the last couple of years that I 'wear' setbacks with a reasonable degree of philosophical resignation. I feel a bit let down by Norway but it's just bureaucracy at the end of the day. We'll find a way. By the way, on the teeth thing - I've had a black spot on one of my back teeth for a while. The dentist often prods at it and says it's a 'potential weak spot' but not anything that needs filling...not unless it gets worse (which it hasn't in like 3 years). I wouldn't worry too much if you haven't any toothache. Sometimes it's staining.

CWest30 - congrats on the bump! I'm showing early on my first due to stretched belly due to fibroids (looked pregnant before) and I've seen a slim lady who has a blog who had a v impressive bump at 10 weeks Here. If you scan through the rest of the blog she takes a bump photo every week. Gives me heart that she's bigger than me at 15 weeks (although my tits are huge so I look kind of heftier Blush). Anyway, what I meant to say is that she's an example of someone of normal size, who's had kids before having a big bump early.

Aw thanks for calling me a Trojan Sedgers! I don't feel like one sometimes but it's loads of adjustments for all of us & I too remember being a teen so I try not to take most of it personally. Was only really oddly upset about the assertion that I would spoil everything by needing the loo all the time Sad. But hey, sometimes she spoils stuff by sulking so touche! Wink Wink. Sorry you're feeling so sick - hope that starts to ease off soon. Don't envy you the commute. Glad you've got some time off. Oh & good luck with the Norwegian sweater Wink - best to knit one, they're very expensive over here Shock.

Guccigirl79 · 18/04/2012 20:49

Midget that made me Grin lol I guess you'd hate me a little more if I said I'd just had the last one Wink only jesting though,I'm sure when you get some (soon I hope) you will take more pleasure in eating them :)

Hope things start to look up with the hormonal teenager Fjord I'm sure she'll snap out of it before long & you're right with regard to an earlier post & her friends wont give a crap about what's going on in her world when they will be too wrapped up in their own!!

Sedgers · 19/04/2012 08:45

Good Morning!

Midget please close your eyes :o I did get some lovely lemon lollies when I went to shop yesterday, and they really were my salvation. It's a shame there is no freezer at work! I can feel my teeth rotting, but as i couldn't eat any chocolate over easter, I figure that these can be my replacement treat! I still have some left, so Midget if you're anywhere near Surrey, please pop by and grab one :)

Thank-you Londonlivy and Fyord for the sympathy, and comments about knitting. I'd love to knit on the train, but SW trains are a bit squeezed-in and although (thankfully) I pretty much always get a seat...I don't think there's enough elbow room.

I'm going to start searching for a pattern for DH. Problem is he's so fussy, so I can see it being quite a demanding project, and not sure I really have the skills yet! Hmm

bella2012 · 19/04/2012 08:58

morning all! Just had a lovely catch-up on all your news! squid i am so pleased for you! I know you will still be working extremely hard, but your new arrangements sound a lot more manageable. Great news! fjord you are such a hero! At a time when most of us are thinking about ourselves a lot more, you are having to deal with so many other people's feelings towards your pregnancy. I think you are amazing to be so patient and understanding. I wonder if your dsc has considered te fact that this baby is her own brother or sister. How wonderful to be blessed with a sibling who will always be there for her! She is so lucky! And lucky to have a step mum who is as nice as you. angelico i have been having more discharge which has freaked me out a bit. Has yours continued? Hope you are ok and glad your epu were reassuring. I totally agree about the tiredness thing orange. I am exhausted at the thought of this carrying on for much longer! I feel like i am giving my absolute best at work and then have nothing left at the end of the day. Poor little ds. We made a camp in the settee last night and pretended it was a train. I nearly fell asleep in there, how bad is that??! Ah well, i have a day off today. Hooray! Got someone coming to fix our blocked drain- oh the joys! Have a happy day everyone. All the best.

Midgetm · 19/04/2012 13:43

Sedgers I'm in the lake district but I'm asking DH to turn the car round and head to surrey. Going for a pub lunch but will be maki g sure I get me one this afternoon.

bella the fact that you had the energy to make the den should be saluted. My interaction with DD largely is me laying in bed with her reading stories and then me falling asleep before her. Hoping the tiredness will lift soon as I skip into the second trimester.

On another note, done a lot of travelling and my bladder is not my friend. Spend the whole time wanting to have a pee.

WantAnOrange · 19/04/2012 13:57

YompingJo I missed your question about the nappies! Re-useable nappies definately don't smell worse if washed properly, and the poo gets flushed away (unlike disposables!) so there is less to hang around and be stinky! On the other hand I think all babies generally smell pretty gross at times, you get used to it!

Sedgers · 19/04/2012 16:27

Midget he he that made me laugh:o I hope you enjoyed your pub lunch. My supply of lollies is now dwindling (not quite sure how I've managed to eat so many), so hopefully you can find what you need in the Lakes!

Angelico · 19/04/2012 18:52

Hi ladies, hope you are all well. Still uncomfortable but no more watery discharge -seems to come and go. Think the bean is just lying on my damn cervix or something! Anyway, roll on the weekend.

Yomping thanks so much for your post re discharge - now there's a sentence you'll never hear again...! lol Seriously, it made me feel so much better that other people are having this. Think it was just unlucky coincidence - having the pressure AND the discharge change together on 2 occasions. Thanks! x

Kyrria yay that the good news is out and all is well! :o Bit Hmm at the lunatic who seems to want to own the news but some strange people around...

Zara did you get your chompers sorted?

Sedgers am well impressed with the knitting stuff!

Fjord any more news at your end? Hope things are settling down a bit for you! x

Bella what discharge have you been having? PM it if you don't want to put in on general board lol but I was glad I got 'feedback'. I think any time you're in doubt contact midwife. It was midwife who told me to go to EPU to get checked.

Midget feeling your pain on the bladder front. I seem to spend my life looking for opportunities to pee! Blush Think the bean is dancing a frikkin' fandango on my bladder.

Think that's everyone but hope all of you are well! :o DH just home and looking fed so better go be a Stepford Wife :o x

OP posts:
Velo · 19/04/2012 19:18

I'm with Angelico and Midget on the bladder front. It's driving me up the wall! We have to pay to use the toilets at the cinema and I think that pregnant women should def. be exempt from this! I feel an urgent need to pee and then what comes out is a tiny dribble - I ignored the pressure leaving work yesterday as couldn't face yet another loo trip but the cycle home was not good. I reckon I can put up with it though if it keep the little one happy!

Midgetm · 19/04/2012 19:52

velo pay to use the loo, in the cinema? I'm outraged!

milk · 19/04/2012 20:10

Velo, how much are the cinema tickets? Is the cinema run by Ryanair? :P

Midgetm · 19/04/2012 20:30

sedgers no bloody lemonade ones here. Made do with a poor imitation. Be afraid as I could be knocking in your door soon.

londonlivvy · 19/04/2012 20:37

Hello everyone

Scan day tomorrow and I'm absolutely terrified. Burst into tears earlier when a guy I know (a bit - he's on a committee I'm on) asked how I was. Oh dear. DF is incredibly calm and is certain all will be well. I, meanwhile, am suffering from an over-active imagination. GAH.

Fingers crossed please ladies if you can! I shall be crossing my legs with a very full bladder!

MrsConfusion · 19/04/2012 21:19

Hello everyone, sorry for radio silence. I've been snowed under at work (into busiest period of the year, really don't think I'll get through) but caught up now on all your news.
Fjord hope things are settling now, rotten to have other people's emotional messiness on top of everything.
Orange totally with you on the tiredness, can't keep my eyes open at work and just want to sleep as soon as I'm home. Keep power-napping in the loos at work, but realised today I left an imprint on my forehead where it had been resting on loo-roll-holder Blush! Not at my most efficient at the moment...
Londonlivvy I've definitely got everything crossed for you tomorrow, it's fine to feel in a panic. I don't think I said more than a dozen words on the morning of mine, poor DH thought he was in dog-house but I was too scared to chat!
zara I've got really sore and bleeding gums, teeth themselves hopefully OK but tempted to use free dentists appointment sooner than later. So weird all the things our bodies do when they're busy growing beans.
angelico hope you're more reassured now. This may be TMI but 'downstairs' has been really different since BFP, and sometimes definintely smells v different to usual Blush.
Still can't quite get used to telling people, despite a busy couple of weeks telling family, then work, then some friends. Got a cheer from my team (aw), followed by one of the lads piping up with 'I don't like babies' - classic. Bless him, honest at least Wink
Will stop wittering now. Bye all x

Angelico · 19/04/2012 21:45

Velo - can't believe the buggers charged you to use the loo when you're pregnant! Shock. You should just 'leak' on the floor and see how fast they change their tune :o

Livvy good luck for scan - I'm sure it will be lovely - try to relax! x ps: how many weeks are you now?

MrsConfusion - thanks for reassurance - I never thought I'd find myself comparing intimate body facts with people lol. On the teeth thing my gums just seem a bit more swollen or something. Going to go to dentist and get a check while it's all free :o

OP posts:
Angelico · 19/04/2012 21:58

ps: There's a thread around tonight, a girl of 29 who wants to go back to uni and then have 2nd child. Thread is called something like 'Am I too old for second child at 33?'

I will be 35 by time bean 1 arrives! Confused

OP posts:
LondonMrsS · 19/04/2012 22:37

Good luck with your scan Londonlivvy! Enjoy it! Anyone else still awaiting 12 week scans? And really glad everything's ok with you, Angelico. And it's horrific to make a pregnant lady pay for a pee! There is that old London bye law that says if a pregnant lady needs to pee, a policeman is legally obliged to allow her to do it in his hat. I have yet to test that theory. And in other news, my results from my NT measurement and blood test came in the post and gave me a risk factor of 1 in 32000. I like that number, I think! Sleep well everyone.

squidkid · 20/04/2012 06:36

oh wow, I think I've caught up with everyone now. Angelico I'm glad all is well with your discharge symptoms - and age is relative isn't it - I feel (at 32) quite "old" to be having a first kid, even though I am one of the first of my close friends from home, and definitely one of the few doctors I know... when I went to my 12 week scan ALL the women there bar one obvious teenager looked a lot older than me! I don't think there's any thing as "too old", it's just that obviously it becomes more difficult and therefore more stressful for most women as they get older to conceive. Lots of people thought I should have waited 5-6 years until my career is more secure but I wanted to do it while I still had (relative) youth on my side...

londonlivvy good luck with your scan, it's so lovely. Mine feels like ages ago...

Zara I am very guilty on the dentist front and haven't been in absolutely years and years and years (never had any dental problems though, no fillings etc) - I am terrified he will say they all have to come out or something! I have an appointment shortly. I'm sure if you get it checked out quickly it will be fine...

bella your story with the den was so cute, you must be a lovely mum.

Kyrria god what idiots people can be. Sorry and I hope you can manage to ignore them!

CWest congrats on your bump! still awaiting mine...

Very relieved that they will be amending my hours, thanks for all the nice comments about this. Still bedding into new job and feeling a bit stressed and incompetent, truthfully - I think I will feel better once I tell my team I'm pregnant (I might do it monday). I have nearly fainted three times now - twice I had to sit down while they all looked at me oddly and the third I just struggled through - is anyone else having this? Teachers or people on their feet all day maybe... It's embarrassing. I might tell them on Monday. I'll be 18 weeks then. I still feel that's a bit early to be telling people who aren't friends, particularly when I'm not showing... I worry they'll roll their eyes and think I'm playing a "pregnancy card"... they seem nice though, I'm sure I'm just being paranoid. I did tell one of the ward clerks after I had to sit down because she cheerfully said "you're not pregnant are you?" and I looked at her and she said in a dramatic whisper "oh you ARE pregnant! how far along?" and I said 17 weeks and she was surprised, though I thought lots of people didn't show at this point.

Big news: midwife listened to the heartbeat this week. It was beautiful. Made it far more real than the scan even. She found it in less than a second. It was beautiful. Wish boyfriend had been there. He cried when I told him!

And I had a definite kick yesterday morning - so exciting :)
