Hi
I am 43 and expecting my first and these next several months are going to be a challenge so hoping to meet others in the same situation.
I can believe I have a baby growing in my dusty cobweb ridden womb. It has taken me 3 weeks to get my head around the whole thing and it is still worried about the future and being able to cope. My partner is fab and great helping me with the ups and downs of baby hormones. Nothing beats hot sweats, night panics and freeze in the middle of tescos wondering our we doing the right thing. I feel better this week and got my head around things .
Any ladies who also need support or just to have a good moan every now and again. xx
Ps thinking about having a toilet built next to my bed to save time going to the loo quite a bit in the evenings!!

Afternoon all,

Still reeling from syphilis-gate. Good job I have a sense of humour and an understanding DH.

Shortbutsweet Congratulations you. And welcome baby Nathan. Another graduate from the old girls club. So brave to go without pain relief - I salute you.

HP sorry the hospital are dragging their feet, any deviation from the normal throws a spanner in the works.

My Mum had me when she was 41 and I will be 41 hopefully when this one pops out. To be honest I swore I wouldn't have kids as old as I do remember being a bit embarrassed that my parents were older. I know that makes me sound shallow in my defence i I was only a child. However, I still have both parents and my DD still has GP's so my view on it is different now. It makes me want to take more care of myself so that I don't make her embarrassed. of course we will all embarrass our kids pretty much constantly but may as well try and limit it

Pinklaydee Welcome to our ranks. My friend who has had babies going it alone and with DH says sometimes it is easier on your own as at least you know you just have to get on with things. We won't be able to help practically but virtually we are here for you.

York and Fjord Roll on 20 week scans eh? I have to wait till 6th June for mine - seems like ages. Thankfully I am feeing movements every day but still not frequently enough to feel safe. I will now be scanned every 4 weeks and they said 'do you mind?". My reaction was 'Hell no, saves me worrying myself sick like a paranoid lunatic

LRM How you feeling? Hope you aren't back at work.

Right I best go and do some work and get ready for Pilates (if I can be arsed...)

FjordMor · 11/05/2012 17:49

Congratulations Shortbutsosweet! :) I think that means you are a 'grad' now :). Welcome to Nathan Christopher!

Midgetm - still mortified for you about Syphillis-gate! Re. older parents - I think all tweens/teens are hideously embarrassed by their parents; age is just one reason to hang it on. DSD1 actually covers her face in public if she has to be 'seen' in town or on a ferry with us and we have great fun laughing at her we're super cool, calm and well-behaved :). Her dad was late 20's when she was born but we're still 'old' and therefore sooooo horribly uncool.

exexe - glad to find a fellow pregnant-coffee-drinker. Was beginning to feel like a right deviant as everyone goes on about their decafs etc.! Am also waiting for my first midwife appt - at 19 weeks (tomorrow) but then I did move countries at 13.5 weeks and only had my GP appt here at 17 weeks. Also things move very slowly here with bureaucracy...worse than the NHS...I expect I'll be chasing this appt for a while yet...

Hope you've all got lovely restful indulgent weekends planned, or, if not that they are at least quiet and uneventful :).

york67 · 11/05/2012 19:21

Hi ladies. I an 20 + 4 today I believe. Scan is on 16th Mmy so not long to wait. I know its mad getting stressed.
Congrats shortbutsosweet.
Hi pinklaydee. Hope you are ok. I too have older dc. Will be 8 and 6 when baby comes. Must admit I thought I was done with all that. However, now I really excited. Hope you have lots of support. x
exexe I too am on my 3rd. All those I know with 3 have been really supportive. They reckon 3 is fab.

10000fireflies · 11/05/2012 19:22

Congratulations shortbutsweet!! Lovely to hear we have another grad.

I spent all afternoon in town and ordered the pram. Woohoo!! Was also naughty and bought two underwired bras!! V exciting. Now v knackered. Have skimmed your latest posts but honestly, it's just not going in! I bet I spend all day asleep tomorrow.

Welcome Pinkladee good to have more members on board!

I will do an update of the stats list soon along with a better post.

Hugs to all. FF x

Whatnamethistime · 12/05/2012 00:30

Hello all - I'm 41, did test this morning - will have 3 under 5 when this one arrives.

I feel like a teenager - my mother is going to flip (she minds DCs while I work pt).

DH and I wanted this baby and he is really pleased - I'm in shock I thunk.

Are there extra tests I should have - I estimate about 6/7 weeks.

Thanks all.

exexe · 12/05/2012 10:13

Shortbutsosweet Huge congrats! Welcome baby Nathan :)

Fjord I can't think of anything better than a good cappuccino. I dont think I can ever give up coffee. I've heard decaff is worse due to the chemicals and process used to extract the caffeine but who knows.

York67 I'm from a large family so two just seems a bit quiet for me. I am really looking forward to the chaos and fun of having 3. My other two will be 7 and nearly 5 (The baby and 5 yr old may have the same birthday!)

1000FF Well done on pram and bra shopping! I'm not even fussed about a pram this time round. Any old one will do as long as it has air tyres. I plan to do a lot of walking!

Whatname Congrats! I've not had any extra tests or anything just the usual. Its probably only if they think you need them I guess.

Its nice to see the sun out. Saddo that I am, I think hooray! washing!. I'm sure we'll go out somewhere this afternoon but haven't decided where yet.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

Midgetm · 12/05/2012 17:18

Congratulations whatname. Like it that you are worried about getting told off by your mum. Welcome to the old people's board.

Hope you've all enjoyed the sunshine. I've started to feel a tad more energetic. Just a Tad mind. Been to Pilates twice in two days and went shopping with DD to pick some stuff up for her for our break. Can't wait to feel done proper sun on my skin. May be the last holiday before the baby as we have the Olympics to look forward to so will be staying in london this summer. Blimey, time is going too fast!

Better go, trying to finish packing as I will be too busy over the next couple of days to get it done. Happy Saturday everyone x

ValiumQueen · 12/05/2012 18:49

Hello all, you will be glad to hear I am feeling less crazy now Grin although all four of us now have flu symptoms.

fjord I love coffee, but am trying to have just one a day - I went off it for weeks.

York mine will be six and two. I was one of three, and always wanted three, as did DH thankfully.

FF DETAILS NEEDED! You cannot say you bought a pram and not give details!

Exexe how can you NOT be bothered about a pram??? And where has your lovely fat pregnant birds thread gone?, as I am on the WW wagon now - posted in weight-loss thread, and been chewed a tad.

Congratulations Whatname

Midget glad you are feeling better now - was quite worried about you and your DD.

Congratulations Short , and well done with BFing.

Pinklaydee You are not alone, you have a wee baby with you 24/7, and you will be fine x

Whatnamethistime · 12/05/2012 20:55

I'm probably not going to get a pram - this is my last DC (honest!) I'm planning to sling wear.

I have a knackered powertwin I use for dd and my other baby (my camera) but having done co-sleeping and extended bf - sling wearing us the last thing to try Grin.

I'm mildly excited today - although it's such early days.

I'm really glad I found this thread - I'm paying international roaming charges so can't read it but I'm going to read all 27 pages once I'm home on wifi. It looks intriguing already :)

Whatnamethistime · 12/05/2012 20:57

Oh and the Lady who has stitches - Post birth care

Pre soak mat pads with a few drops of tea tree oil
Keep a sports water bottle in bathroom - when weeing put a fee drops of oil in bottle and top with warm water - aim at relevant place and only pat dry
Take lactulose for a few days

:)

Congratulations on your little boy

ValiumQueen · 12/05/2012 20:58

whatname placenta eating? Gotta try that eh?

Whatnamethistime · 12/05/2012 23:28

Lmao - now that would raise some eyebrows - I'm going to suggest thatnext time someone makes a snide comment about breast feeding.

eagleray · 13/05/2012 00:24

Hi ladies - please may I tentatively join you?

Am 40, had v early MC 6 months ago then unable to conceive since and thanks to combo of age and some medical problems which can impact fertility, my GP is in the process of referring me. Was coming to terms with things probably never happening and just been on hols to an exotic island with palm trees, turquoise seas etc and did fleeting think it would be funny if we did end up conceiving there, then dismissed it as a stupid cliche.

So did test today and was about to put it in the bin without looking (just did the test to eliminate any vague hope for this month) and then realised there was a line...

Going through waves of shock, delight, calmness and terror since I found out, all the while peeing like a racehorse. I guess you just have to take each day as it comes. I have been watching this thread occasionally and reading about your progress has always given me a glimmer of hope that it may still be possible for me too, and here I am (although extremely early days)

exexe · 13/05/2012 17:12

Congrats eagleray! How exciting! Is this your first?

Midget where are you off to? I'm sure you have already said but you know what pregnancy brain is like Smile

ValiumQueen I'm afraid I prammed myself out with ds1 and 2! I had a travel system, a jogger, a twin, a slim lightweight one. I didn't think I was having anymore so got rid of them. Now its just something affoardable and practical! I will look nearer the time. I'll revive that thread. I really need it as have been scoffing a bit.

Lovely and busy day today. I have been out and about for most of the day. I can't wait to put my feet up infront of the tv later but have much to do before I get to that stage!

Whatnamethistime · 13/05/2012 18:59

Congratulations eagleray - finger crossed all goes well.

Shortbutsosweet · 14/05/2012 03:51

Hi ladies thanks for your lovely comments! Baby has already puton 4ibs.
Stitches are fine now!
I just had gas and air during the birth. In my NCT groupso far all boys!
Who is next to give birth?

Whatnamethistime · 14/05/2012 09:38

exexe - the netmums nearly new part has some brilliant second hand bargains - if you take a look - I usually have a 5 minute peak every day or two and I've had some fantastic bargains - clothes and toys and equipment - even DS bed came from there.

It's well worth looking.

york67 · 14/05/2012 10:23

vq have joined your other thread.

bytheseaside · 14/05/2012 12:15

welcome and congratulations pinklaydee whatnamethistime and eagleray ! Lovely news shortbutsosweet

midget syphillis story really made me laugh - what an embarrassment!

AFM nearly 4 months now and MS still kicking around on and off, still very tired after 6pm and can never face cooking a proper tea, but I have a bit more energy in the day. I'm trying to start clearing up our very messy house - when the sun isn't shining and tempting me to put my feet up with the newspaper that is. It's such a long time since I did some proper sorting out, that it has novelty value and isn't too boring :) DP's been doing pretty much all the cleaning for months - lovely man. Could I be nesting, do you think ... ? Not very effectively, by the look of the living room where I'm sitting right now, unless a good nest includes piles of books, assorted yoga gear, an odd sock and stray crisp packet.

I am still lost with the whole pram thing and can't believe how expensive they are - so think we'll be slinging it for a while too - with a 2nd hand something or other with wheels as back-up.

Totally understand how everyone is feeling about the 20 week scan - I can't wait for evidence there's still a baby inside this outlandishly big bump as I don't quite believe it any more, and dream about being not pregnant all the time.

I love reading everyone's stories on here - cheers me right up!

littleredmonkey · 14/05/2012 19:29

welcome and congratulations pinklaydee whatnamethistime and eagleray !

Evening ladies, what a day so fed up with the streams of headaches I have had today. Taken a few tablets to try and shift it, work is making me tired as well. Is anyone else suffering with work baby brain, also lack of enthusiasm as well. It all seems so pointless in the grander scheme of things. Anyway no more moaning and only happy chat

ff- Well done on the pram shopping, will need a valium before I start.

Who has 20 weeks scans due this week ?

Midget - How ya feeling after the weekend? I went back to work last week first day back was 7 till 7, my feet and legs were aching like mad, partner was on rub patrol for an hour. Kept telling him to rubs my feet as hard as he could bless him.

Anyway just found a small packet of biscuits ( ginger nuts) and a cup of tea and early night

bytheseaside · 15/05/2012 08:49

littleredmonkey yes to the work babybrain thing - and in my general life. I'm forgetting everything, and that isn't like me - I feel so embarassed!

And oh the joy of finding a fogotten about packet of biscuits :)

york67 · 15/05/2012 10:33

Hi again.
lrm my 20 week scan is tomorrow.
Gosh i am getting baby brain too. Drove car part way to school yesterday to pick up children and forgot I had done it. Another mum had to point it out as she saw me arrive!

Hpbp · 15/05/2012 11:04

hello ladies and warm welcome to joiners.

So much to catch up with in only a week time ! will try to do so later this week.

At work today and supposed to be doing some work, but can't be asked, naughty me. The redundancy situation has not moved a lot. I saw a solicitor who thinks that I could win over unfair dismissal and sex discrimination but the question is how much compensation I would get after his fees ! He has lots of experience having held the position of head of employment tribunal years ago, sounds very professional and trustworthy. So I need to think a bit more as my boss is abroad this week and he can wait to hear my answer. It seems he is sweating a bit from what I heard - rumors....

York and LRM, so your 20 week scan coming soon, you must feel so excited. I remember mine as if it was yesterday, and it was 10 weeks ago ! Will you find out about the gender ?

Have weighed myself and should not have TBH. Already 13.5 kg extra and still 10 weeks to go. Yes my bump is big but not massive, I don't know honestly where these 13.5kg have gone, boops probably ! (not that I am complaining :) ) but I feel like a whale when I try to turn on my side in bed and standing up.

Still feel tired. But probably because of this very cold and wet weather, I don't seem to be able to warm myself. And DS1 started waking up again at night. Regarding headache, I notice that lack of water triggers headache for me, so I try to drink at least 2 litres of still water a day (yes, lots of trips to the loo as well), that keeps me away from headache and UTI.

Oh we had a very nice experience over the week end. I asked DS1 to put his head against my shoulder and his hand on my bump and whisper to baby to come near his hand. 3 times, she kicked as if she was answering to him. He was so excited. I can lie in bed to feel her move around. I don't remember in the first pg being able to feel so many movements, it seems like my little girl is on the dance floor of a disco night club. Honestly, she is kicking with all her four, I am sure.

Have a lovely day every one.

oo00PIXIE00oo · 15/05/2012 11:31

Hi ladies - well my time on here was short and sweet - having had my second scan yesterday it's back to the drawing board :(. On the plus side a least I now know I can still get pregnant! I will be bowing out for now and trying very hard to join you again in the coming months. Good luck to you all xx
