Hi
I am 43 and expecting my first and these next several months are going to be a challenge so hoping to meet others in the same situation.
I can believe I have a baby growing in my dusty cobweb ridden womb. It has taken me 3 weeks to get my head around the whole thing and it is still worried about the future and being able to cope. My partner is fab and great helping me with the ups and downs of baby hormones. Nothing beats hot sweats, night panics and freeze in the middle of tescos wondering our we doing the right thing. I feel better this week and got my head around things .
Any ladies who also need support or just to have a good moan every now and again. xx
Ps thinking about having a toilet built next to my bed to save time going to the loo quite a bit in the evenings!!

Hi Wendyb65 u r more then welcome to join our special group of seniors .It is your first ? bet u r very excited .
Morning ladies,
As the sun is shining and I have the energy today I thought I would do a spot of weeding, the garden has sprung into life this last week, when a bird lands you cant see it in the grass (sparrow not pigeon) . hahaha
How is everyone today ? I woke up last night in a panic with crap how r we going to cope with less pennies coming in with scooter (thats what I have called bump till we know sex). I will return to work as I earn a bit more then my partner and I get a fully paid pension from em. Partner is not able to go part time at his work so he will have to find some work part time and we will have to have child care part time. Its all a worry at 9 weeks I know. What is everyone elses plans or thoughts.

Hi ladies,
Yep money worries are an issue! My partner said he will support me and has so far but I do feel guilty.
I will go back to work sooner due to poor maternity pay.
As I work shifts and my partner works for himself I will work weekends and we will work out a day shift with family help.

Velo · 08/03/2012 20:26

Hi ladies, i'm not quite 40 but I will be by the time the little-one arrives so I hope I can join this thread.

Is anyone else having to take progesterone? I had to do this for IVF treatment but then I fell pregnant naturally, thought I could avoid the whole suppository thing but then the doctor slapped me straight back on them 3x per day (groan).

I'm trying not to get too stressed over the issues that come with 'older pregnancy' but DH and I both acknowledge that the stats are not in our favour - taking each day as it comes. 12 week scan in a couple of weeks which I guess will be a big milestone.

Midgetm · 08/03/2012 21:35

Evening all and welcome to the young one of the group - a scrap of a lass at 39. No progesterone for me - have been given it in the past but this time they say I don't need it. It's a messy business isn't it?

Well I am knackered and taking my old bones to bed. I know I was tired with DD but it seems to be wiping me out this time round. Mustn't grumble. Except on here.

Sleep tight everyone.

littleredmonkey · 08/03/2012 22:22

Hey Velo, welcome on board the pension baby cruise !!!
I must admit I am 9 weeks this week and amazed I have had no sickness, not really tired still managing to work full time and do the gym 3 times a week. Only grumbles was some pain I had in week 7 and admitted to hospital but fine, they just kept me cause I am an old bird and needed to be sure which was cool meet 2 lovely ladies. Only get what I can explain as small period pains on my right side and always on my right side. Strangley if I do some push ups they go random I know. I have everything crossed this continues. I also have my scan on 5th April , but mid wife in the morning. Your right stats arent in are favour but they are only stats, stay strong and relax and chill often and a dominos pizza large pepperoni helps abit and every bit counts. xx
Have a good sleep and may we all not spend the bulk of the evening going to and from the loo x

littleredmonkey I may have to track you down and beat you - showing off all that energy. I am supposed to be going to pilates but worried about trumping or puking on my feet when I roll down. I know finding time for exercise actually gives you more energy but my body is ignoring the messages my mind is giving it! I must go I must go (repeat to fade)

littleredmonkey · 09/03/2012 20:24

Hi Guys,
Hope you have all had a good day? I went to the midwife for the 1st time today. She was really nice and aksed me loads of questions, gave me 20 million leaflets that I had to drag in my bag on the bus. She took blood and we chatted about scans and process going forward which helped relax me as it is all very confusing what means what. Went back to work after 16 days holiday and told some of my team, they are sooooooo excited they are organising my baby shower as we speak. They are all watching me like hawks as they know I move equipment and stock on a daily basis. ( work for goold old Marks and Spencers).
Midgetm - Not going to the gym this evening exhausted from days at work and forced to eat a snickers bar at lunch for sugar to get me through the day. Got to work 10 hours saturday, the perils of retail. God knows how many steps I do in the store and up and down the steps it exhausting. Gym Sunday though, got to work off my dominos pizza saturday night . Top tip on trumping as it is a huge issue for me at the mo. Stand near a group of blokes in the gym do your business slide away and they will think it is one of them. They will probbly high 5 each other in triumph.
Hope you all have a good weekend ladies and relax and feel well xxxx

Midgetm · 10/03/2012 08:44

Ok I will not strike you! In fact I salute you. 10 hours a day on your feet. Blimey.
male Pilates teacher told me to give it a rest for first trimester. He said I was as fit as a flea and 4 weeks off wouldn't kill me. I don't see the need for this. What do you all think. Is it because I is old?

10000fireflies · 11/03/2012 09:25

Morning Ladies How are we all doing on our 40-somethings cruise??!! Grin Was looking like it was going to be a lovely sunny day here, but of course, as soon as I'm ready to go out it has clouded over.

Welcome Velo. I had to take those Progesterone suppositories for x2 (failed) IVF rounds. Foul, aren't they??!! Welcome too to Wendy - v impressive to be preggers at 47!! Congrats to you!

Wow LRM. I can't believe how active you are. V impressed. I have got a couple of prego workout DVDs which I really must get started on. Been to some Aquafit, which was lovely - must go more often though!

Midgetm maybe your instructor is assuming you will be completely knackered in your first trimester like most preggers women. I could barely get off the sofa for the first 20 weeks!! Grin Thank goodness the exhaustion has passed.

Have prego Pilates today. V good, and we do quite a bit of pelvic floor work which I am very grateful for, as, along with everything else, I am not managing to work it into my daily routine. Have cleared a load of stuff out to store in parents garage (can't believe I still have to do this!!) to make room for the baby, so taking that there today. Received first gift for baby this week too - v sweet little comforter.

Anyone keen to have a status list? Here are my stats in case peeps are keen:

Fireflies-42, #1 due 16/06 (previously x2 failed IVF cycles, 1 blocked tube)

Hope you all have a good Sunday. xx

littleredmonkey · 11/03/2012 09:31

Morning ladies
Sunday the sun is shining and no work Yeh !! Yesterday was the first long day I have done and boy did I know it when I got home. Little baby even only 9 weeks old zaps your energy cells like mad. I was in bed at 8:30 watching a film but up and ready to seize the day, well go shopping have lunch bought for me and then try an hour at the gym
Midgetm -If you're a gym goer do something else. I miss my weights but still do other things that brings on a sweat. My trainer said its fine to exercise in the 1st trimester as long as you dont go mad, but yours is also right to take a break but twice as hard work to get back into . and your not old. I use to smile that I could out lift the young boys in the gym ( ps I am not freaky looking and ripped with muscles just strong). So get that lycra on and enjoy I say !!!

Hi
Hope you all can shed some light on my excessive bloating which gets worse as the day goes on and anything that can help it. I wake up ok but bloat up soon as i eat and it is really uncomfortable. Is there anything you can take to help ? x

OP posts:
Midgetm · 11/03/2012 18:45

Evening all.

You are both right about the exercise. I think he was just being over cautious. I am going to stick with the gym and Pilates. I shall still do weights just won't do HIIT. Miscarriage clinic said I need to keep one foot on the floor at all times. I live my exercise and I think teacher was being over cautious. My Saturday teacher said I don't even have to adjust any exercises until 2nd tri.

lrm I have the bloat. By the end of the day I am huge in comparison to in the morning. Only thing that seems to make it manageable is lots to drink, exercise and fybrogel when things get bad.

Knackered today. Been looking at my gym bag all day, have found even that exhausting...

40, 1DD, due 27/10

heidipi · 11/03/2012 19:32

Hello ladies - am hopping on board, this thread is making me feel better about being - er - senior!

42 and about 6wks pg with no 2 - was 41 when I had DD, will be 43 when this one pops in October (all being well etc etc, everything crossed, not taking anything for granted blah blah).

We haven't told anyone yet - for some reason am expecting a few raised eyebrows and tuts this time, but hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised. Feel fine - a bit more tired this time around but then I didn't get up before 6am on a regular basis in those days...

Hope everyone's well - am off for an enormous tea, remember being starving last time too, it's all good though because I've just replaced all my wine calories with pie! Hurrah.

KatieDingus · 11/03/2012 22:22

Hi All, I just turned 40 and am expecting my first, due end of July. To be honest after reading in magazines that once past 35 you're practically infertile I was delighted to get pregnant! My midwife said that most of her ladies having babies are in their 40s these days so maybe we are not such a minority after all!
I had really bad nausea for first 3 months but the worst has been the exhaustion and trying to drag myself into work!

Hpbp · 12/03/2012 11:41

so glad to find all of you, 41, 3.5 YO son and 20 week pg, due date end of July 2012.... fulltime working mum, excited, overtired, stressed but very happy, really wanted a sibling for my son, can't believe it will be the last....

10000fireflies · 12/03/2012 14:56

Oooo, is getting busy in here!! Welcome Heidi, Katie and Hpbp, and congratulations to you all on being preggers and over 40!!. Thanks I?ll get them to bring some more orthapeadic chairs in for us!! Grin
LRM how has your day been? Sounds lovely. Don?t worry BTW, the tiredness is normal. If you feel like you?ve been run over by a truck is all fairly par for the course!! Re the bloating, is also pretty normal. It?s all those hormones swilling about which make you puff up. Does pass after a bit and then the baby-belly proper develops. Midget is right ? you need to keep drinking lots of water. Just waiting for you to ask about constipation?..
Awwww, Midget I see the tiredness has got to you too?.. Don?t worry, it will pass!! I don?t think I really suffered from giving the exercise a miss until week 20. (you?ll probably be even more determined now I?ve said that!!)
Heidi I am sure you won?t be getting that many raised eyebrows and tuts this time round, as you?ve only really just had your first, so it?s kind of what people expect. How was your enormous tea? Yummy, I hope?
Katie agree that the media will have you believe that you?re practically infertile after the age of 35. I?m not sure how believable some of these stats are really. Defo true that there are more women in their 40s having children now. Many due to fertility treatment, but not all by any means. You must be over the worst of the exhaustion now and hopefully enjoying just being pregnant?
Hpbp can understand how elated you must feel. Am already secretly planning #2, even though #1 isn?t due for another 14 weeks!!
Boggler - how are you doing? Have you had any news from your amnio? I have ?um?med and ?ah?ed over whether to add you or not to the list. Decided would be best for you to check in and let us know how you?re doing and add yourself if you like. Thinking of you and keeping everything crossed in the meantime. Xx

My pilates class yesterday was good. Can?t believe how achy it can make you in weird places. At parents today, trying to cram stuff into their garage so we have room in poky flat for baby?s nursery. However, struggling to motivate myself as beautiful weather today and would rather be down the beach enjoying the sunshine than stuck in garage!!

LRM I hope you don?t think I?ve taken over your thread by doing a stats list below. I?m just a bit bored being at my parents for a few days, but do think stats help a bit on these threads. Maybe newbies can update when they join?
I?ve added in details below as far as I can. Have put question marks where I?m not sure. If I have got anything wrong, apologies. Either way, please copy, correct and update. (I sound like a right bossy little madam, don't I??!)

Fireflies-42, #1 due mid June
Heidipi ? 42, 1 DD, #2 due Oct

Hey ladies,
Wow what a gang we have become. Huge welcome to Heidi, katie and HpBp Thanks for all your advice about the bloating I will give them a whirl.
10000fireflies cool idea for the list of who and when, and no youre not a bossy madam hahah !! I am due 12th October. So its horseygirl and Sosweet due 1st. .
I was working today and I just stopped and thought God I have a person growing inside me !!! So weird. All my staff know and have been ace, even had mum to be cards. Probably all thrilled I will be missing for a year on mat leave !! As I work for m&s and look after kids its a good excuse to have a look at the baby gear. Partner is going decorating nuts he is glossing as we speak and agreed if I got pregnant he would learn to swim. Well yesterday was day one in the pool and I was very proud of his frantic splashing and was awarded junior tadpole badge !! Poor sod but gave us both a laugh. He is determined to do a length by the end of the week no matter what he looks like.
Blogger - We all hope you are ok ? let us know how you are doing love to hear from you when u get a min.
10000fireflies - Not a lick of constipation, no issues there yet , besides the bloating I am cooking with gas, ( and other gas due to the bloating) feel full of beans today, my staff think I should slow down, or hope I will.
Katie - I was told my dried up dusty cobweb womb was probably out of action, but 2 months after having my implant removed BINGO, even my gp was amazed so just shows ya honey
Heidi - Made me smile swapping pie for wine. Good swap I say . I dont drink hate the stuff would rather drink tiolet duck , not had a drink in 16 years and stopped smoking 11 years ago, Loved a fag 40 a day!! I also had a few raised eyebrows at work when they asked my age but what the hey I say, some people always find the negative in anything.

My cat is obsessed with sitting on my bloated belly sure he knows it is sticking up and loves to walk on me in the mornings in bed and push down with his paws when i am desperate for a wee!!!

Just taking some time to read through all the millions of leaflets and stuff from midwife, lord its a lot of stuff they give ya

Whos got scans when so we can all send hugs and stuff before, nothing beats a good few hugs to see ya through thre day

I'm 40 in June. Does that make me too young to join? My 3rd child is due in October. DD2 is 16 months, DD1 is 8 and I'm knackered.

Tennerlady · 12/03/2012 19:46

littleredmonkey thanks I've not been too much of monster today still plenty of time left ha ha my scan is in morning at 9 am I had one two weeks ago when I was six weeks but was only measuring about 4 + 3 and sack there in womb but no hb yet but she thought maybe a yolk sack so hopefully I am 8wks tomorrow they might have some good news this happened last year and they said it was ectopic so bit on edge as really want this to be viable (hate the way they call it that )!!
