Hi
I am 43 and expecting my first and these next several months are going to be a challenge so hoping to meet others in the same situation.
I can believe I have a baby growing in my dusty cobweb ridden womb. It has taken me 3 weeks to get my head around the whole thing and it is still worried about the future and being able to cope. My partner is fab and great helping me with the ups and downs of baby hormones. Nothing beats hot sweats, night panics and freeze in the middle of tescos wondering our we doing the right thing. I feel better this week and got my head around things .
Any ladies who also need support or just to have a good moan every now and again. xx
Ps thinking about having a toilet built next to my bed to save time going to the loo quite a bit in the evenings!!

Pixie, sorry to hear that. But glad to know you want to join again asap. Take care in the meantime.

10000fireflies · 15/05/2012 12:36

Pixie so sorry to hear that it's not worked out for you this time. I hope you take the time to properly recover before you move on. Think your PMA will stand you in good stead though. Might be too early for you to want to join a TTC thread, but I can really recommend the 40+ one on MN which I am/have been a member of. Lots of great ideas there and a lovely bunch of fabulous ladies who are very kind and supportive. FF xx

ValiumQueen · 15/05/2012 16:15

Sorry pixie hope to see you back when you are ready x

Had my 16 week MW appt today and all looking good. Took a while to find heartbeat but it was so good to hear it eventually. Had not had any movements for a few days so was worried. Baby has been kicking off ever since!

I have lost 3lb this past week since eating healthily again. Not intentional at all, but now I am a full 1.5 stone less than I was at conception.

10000fireflies · 15/05/2012 21:03

Evening my lovelies

Valium you were asking re the pram I ordered. Went for Joolz Day. Love it as baby is quite high up, but whole chassis is v stable and should be able to cope with rougher parts of Thames tow path. I have ordered it in denim and can?t wait to show it and baby off. Think it will be good and masculine for DH too, plus handle extends quite high which will be good for DH as he is 6 ft. I am looking forward to walks along the river to a Mummy orientated retail park, which I expect will become my second home!! Hoping it will be easy to keep on top of grocery shopping, lose a bit of baby weight and stop me going totally mental through too much child-only interaction. Grin BTW, well done on scan and weight loss.

BytheSeaside ? you were after advice on bits and pieces for baby. Some highlights: BabyBay co-sleeper/cot. Is lovely. Get direct from manufacturer in Germany and you save about £100 on NCT price. BabyBjorn sling. Hendsvik changing shelf/unit plus baby bath from Ikea. Cheapo vests, bibs, sleepsuits and flannels from Primark.

Shortbut you asked who was next?. Could be horsey, or maybe me!!

Bytheseaside - there are some cheapo strollers which are suitable from birth if you?re finding it difficult to chose pram/travel system. I have to say, it?s taken me the best part of 8 months to decide!! Though, there are bargains to be had on Ebay once you have decided, so long as you?re happy to play along with the bidding wars!!

LRM how are you doing with all the headaches? I went through a phase of getting one most days, though a couple of paracetamol seemed enough to sort them out. I had the most incredible chocolate craving at the same time, though I don?t think that was the cause of headaches.

York how was your scan? And the babybrain? You?ll be driving off without kids next time!!

hpbp not surprised you don?t feel like doing any work. Have you a plan yet? Whatever you do, take the least stressful option. There is a legal amount they have to give you in the case of a compromise agreement and that would be better for you to go for IMHO while you are preggers. Though I would totally understand why you want to screw them for constructive/unfair dismissal/sexism. Cute to hear about your little disco girl doing as Daddy told her!!

My wrist is healing than goodness! Helps I've worked out how to put the splint on properly. Have a nightmare couple of days as lovely, but stroppy, ageing parents (I guess this is how my LO will be describing me in 42 years time!!) coming for a couple of days to help as new carpet/flooring being laid Friday. Will be very trying, but worth it in the long run. So, will be off-line until the weekend.

Hugs to all. FF xx

FF nice pram!

What a lovely long list, although my OCD is telling me Chronological Order Please! but too tired to be arsed Smile

10000fireflies · 15/05/2012 21:58

Valium feel free to re-order!!! Chronological order could be better. Just noticed Stella's twins are due end May...

lotsofcheese · 15/05/2012 22:08

Well done FF!!

Haven't been posting much here as it's early days yet (8 wks) & still a bit paranoid after previous MC - got scan on Friday - very apprehensive as going to London for w/e with DP (his 40th b'day pressie) - terrified scan will show another m/c Sad

Whole family will be here Fri pm so worrying about how I'll handle things if it's bad news......

10000fireflies · 15/05/2012 22:17

Lotsofcheese sending you lots of very positive and strong and sticky vibes. xx

lotsofcheese · 15/05/2012 22:24

Thank you so much! And welcome to the new ladies too - here's to long & boring pregnancies for us all xx

FjordMor · 15/05/2012 23:35

Going to take time to get caught up with all of your posts tomorrow as I've hardly had time to read this thread tonight but York67 - do let us know how your scan went. Just had the date for mine through - a week today (22nd May). Can't wait!! :)

Midgetm · 16/05/2012 00:05

I am in Spain. It is hot. Praise be.

HorseyGirl1 · 16/05/2012 03:54

Um - sorry I haven't posted for ages but I do lurk about! My EDD is officially 7th June but it looks like things may be happening next week. My Bumpy is breech but they are going to try to turn him on Monday and then remove my stitch. Highly possible my waters may go when they do this but also possible nothing will happen also! If they can't turn him may get a C section but really depends how things go on Monday. Getting excited - can't wait to meet my wee man now! Hope you are all keeping well and getting lots of rest. Can't believe what a nice crowd we have building up here now!! xxx

exexe · 16/05/2012 09:53

Pixie sorry to hear your news. Hopefully see you back soon.

ValiumQueen Well done! thats good going on the healthy eating front! I'm not being as good as I should but I've realised that I only want to eat veggie food. What I've been doing is cooking the family meal, realising I really don't want to eat it then having bread instead. So, I'm off to find recipes for veggie chillis and lentilly stuff.

lotsofcheese good luck! hope you can relax and enjoy London trip!

Midget Envy Enjoy! I feel like planning a holiday too. Ds1 asked me this morning 'Can we go to America in half term?' I'm not too sure about that but I'll see if I can find somewhere.

hpbp gosh its dragging isn't it! I hope you get a good resolution after all this stress. Poor you.

Horseygirl Good luck! How exciting!

My bump is getting big now. I'm only 17 weeks so am dreading getting to full term. I'm also dreading my work commute. The trains are so packed that I can barely move sometimes. I've decided I'll go on Mat leave at the end of August.

I was really worried because I had not felt any flutters for a week and was just telling dh the other night about it and now I'm feeling it all the time! Hooray! Everything is so worrying during pregnancy.

hope everyone has a good day.

ValiumQueen · 16/05/2012 11:43

exexe I have today decided to finish for mat leave early and take annual leave beforehand. I am a week behind you but am having a section at 39 weeks so around your due date. I will finish end july with annual leave, then mat leave from 1st Sept. I go back to work tomorrow after being off sick for 5 weeks so need to look after myself. It will not be months of laziness though as I will have a 5yo and a 2yo to look after. I also have a long driving commute and drop off and pick up both kids and DH daily so nearly 3 hours driving each day, plus driving between clinics and meetings. I am taking a full year too. Did not with the other two but I am with this one.

littleredmonkey · 16/05/2012 12:17

Pixie- Thinking of you honey, look after yourself xx

Hpbp- Hope you get this situation sorted asap and with no more stress and hope your boss is sweating and sweating alot

York - How did your scan go today ? Lots of detail please as mine is next week and have no idea what to expect.

Midget - Soooooooooooooo jealous of you on holiday, but the sun is out in Lincoln today so a small plus and extra sad my washing is outside for the first time this year

lotsofcheese - have a good time in london and try and enjoy yourself and sending you lots of positive thoughts for Friday

Horseygirl - Wow how exciting, you will soon see that little guy and be home setting mummy wheels in motion xx

exexe - I am huge as well, bigger in the evenings then first thing in the morning, full of gas and water !!!

ValiumQ- My eating has been not great last couple of months I am conparing it to the extreme eating of no carbs I was before so its nice to have toast , well done on losing weight very impressed. I will have to go gym nuts when little one pops out but not putting any pressure on myself till the new year. I am also taking a year off work was going to take 40 weeks but thought nah I am going to do this only once so why not make the most of it.

fjord- We have the same scan date !!! thinking of you .

ff- Hope the flooring went ok? And glad the wrist is healing with the splint

Headaches are on a daily basis Mondays were shocking had two yeaterday and woke up with one this morning . Gone now. I have the day off so just chilling with my kitty. Done the house through and off to the gym later to flap my arms and legs about.
Nervous about the scan nect week, hoping everything is cool and find out if team pink or team blue. So winding down at work its weird spent the last 19 years all about work and could not really care less at the moment. Roll on mat leave.

KMR281 · 16/05/2012 12:24

hiya again ladies, for your lovely list of stats, DC3 (oh my god!!) is likely due end of December, but I've not had that confirmed by a midwife - booking in appt is May 28th, so am about 7 weeks just now.
I told two friends at the weekend, and I think they were pleased for me - which sort of made it a bit more real.

I feel really quite queasy in the mornings, and afternoons, but toast and marmite seems to help. and just eating constantly. Have to have a bottle of water with me at all times as have huge thirst.

Still a bit conflicted about whole 'having baby 3' and where said baby might actually fit in our wee house and car. Hmm. So, nice project could be to totally remodel house, or just move. Clearly, we have no money at all, so will be interesting times!

also, am so tired all the time, and babybrain has already started - this is worrying, as have at least 30 weeks to go (all being well) and it won't improve!

righty, hope you guys are all well and enjoying your new prams etc! they sound lush by the way. I shall be re-using the good ole Mammas & Pappas one I had for the older two, so long as it hasn't rotted or rusted away in the garage. Will likely buy a Baby bjorn, as borrowed one last time, and it was good.

anyone know when you can't fly any more - due to fly in mid november for a family do, only a 1 hour internal flight, so surely that would be fine??

toodle oo..........

gothinrecovery · 16/05/2012 13:26

Hi,

Decided to jump in after lurking here for a few days.

Not really sure where to start but after almost 5 years off the pill since marrying DH, and subsequently being diagnosed with unexplained infertility and told we would probably need IVF (which we didn't go for as the chances of success seemed so slight) I have found out that I am pregnant at 3 weeks shy of my 43rd birthday. To say that I am surprised is an understatement (gobsmacked is closer Shock) - I didn't even test until AF was a week late as I didn't think there was any way I possibly could be (had basically given up hope).

As of now I am 6 weeks gone so very early days and tbh whilst delighted I am not sure I have entirely got my head round it yet Confused. I am also pretty worried having been blinded with stats by the doc. Not too many symptoms yet - seem to be very tired, and hair/ skin seem to be greasier than usual (yuk). Very mild nausea today for the first time although not actually sick.

Delighted to find a thread specifically for us oldies as felt like a granny on most of the other forums I looked at!

PS in case anyone is wondering about the name I used to be a fairly full on goth with lots of black velvet/ leather clothes, purple lipstick etc. Still a bit partial to velvet but the demands of a career have slowed me down a bit!

york67 · 16/05/2012 13:27

So sorry pixie
Scan was today and everything ok. Although did comment that scan was lower resolution due to BMI. Thanks for reminding me again.

Hpbp · 16/05/2012 13:53

LRM, you should see the GP to talk about these headaches, I have no idea if it can be linked to pg but you would not lose anything doing so. Don't worry about the scan, be positive. You might find that the sonographer is not talkative but he/she will have to look at lots of things and make sure that LO is all fine. Do you have a preference for the flavor ? Have you thought about names yet ?

KMR281, I think that after 28 weeks you need a doctor's note to fly - it is required by the airlines, it does not mean you can't fly

I'd love to have 3 but financially speaking it is a concern, I would love to give the same chances to the 3 of them but hey I am expecting only number 2 and already out of work so who knows what future holds ! And just like you said KMR281 I will have to move house and buy a car, a big one ! Will start by playing Loto, may get lucky :)

Midget, so Spain, lucky you, warmth and tapas, I am envious !

Lotsofcheese, hope you will have a dry week end in London, finally we don't have rain, I was caught under these tropical showers twice yesterday, don't know how managed not to get a cold. Don't stress over MC, enjoy every single day of the pg. Sending you positiveness

VQ waouh I am impressed by your weight loss, well done. I try to eat healthy but still put on slowly but surely. I put on 16 kg for the first pg and kept 3 kg, so I am trying to be good but how I like sweet food this time

FF don't do anything with the flooring please, you can help out with tea and cakes rounds for the workers, you have a wrist to take care of !
And you got the Joolz, nice choice, I like the high up seat as well.

Exexe, America ? oh dear, I wish I could plan faraway hols too, somewhere like Carribean sea or Indian Ocean, Sea to feel less heavy, Sun a little bit to warm up, Exotic fruits to fill my stomach with... one day soon I will be able to do so Wink

Bytheseaside, I got rid of most bulky equipment after DS1. Now I will start getting some of them back again... but I have decided not to bother too much, second hand pieces that can be sterilized will do the trick.

The Bebe confort pram will be given by my sister, she had it since 2001 and 5 babies have used it including my DS1, but it is still in very good condition, a bit bulky and out of fashion but I don't care, I will stay at my Mum's at least for the first 3 months if everything goes according to plan and she has a big garden entrance where I can leave the pram unfolded. It would be a pb in my flat though. The pram can be taken off its chassis and secured in the car so I don't need a car seat and can also be used as a moses basket for day time nap.

You already know my pushchair dilemna (uppababy Cruz or Baby Jogger Versa or city GT) but I won't need to make a decision until baby is 6 months old or so. That will be my biggest expense, I think but it will also last for a few years.

I will breastfeed as long as I can but if I need to switch to bottle feeding then I will use the sterilizer tablets in cold water, the steam sterilizer is too big and it does not do the job better. I still have my Philips Advent bottles and hand pump. I also have a shawl that allows me to BF without showing to the whole world my personal equipment because I do not feel comfortable with that, even if BF is the most natural thing in the world. We would be put in jail if we were to show everything without holding a baby, wouldn't we ?

I used Baby Bjorn carrier for DS1, I could not get my head around the sling, too many choices and I did not know where to start. So as long as baby is more than 3.5kg, Baby Bjorn it will be.

The cot will be a second hand Ikea one. I will just purchase a new comfortable mattress. Mattress protectors is a must from day 1. Sleeping bags as well.

No changing table for me either. The changing mat with a big towel underneath on my bed will be enough. I had a cot top changing unit but once DS1 was able to roll over, I found it a bit dangerous. All my bedrooms have fitted wardrobes so I don't want to invest in a chest of drawers with a removable changing top. Toys will take up most space soon !

I will go for a bath support instead of a baby bath, I can use it in the sink and later in my bath tub or shower. I find it easier to have baby seated and both hands free than having to hold baby's head with one hand and washing with the other.

As for Baby clothing, well, unless we have a specific event/party to go to, she will spend her first 6 months or so until she can crawl in babygros with long/short sleeves vest underneath, 4 or 5 cardigans and that will be it. All second hand from her brother !

Do I sound a bit economical here ? Maybe. But because the time baby uses all these things is so short, what is the point of spending a fortune ? I'd rather spend money on hand and foot prints or photographer to keep a memory of the first months that will fly pass than on baby equipment.

Voila, that's it for me today :)

knottyhair · 16/05/2012 14:00

Hi everyone - can I join you? I found out yesterday that I'm about 8 weeks pregnant, a week before my 44th birthday - not planned AT ALL. Am still trying to get my head around it to be honest, as is DP. We have a lovely DS who is 8 (will be 9 when the new one arrives all being well). Feeling very sick most of the day although not actually being sick and I'm knackered! Trying to keep it from DS until 12 weeks although I'm very tempted to tell him, he's not silly and I'm worried he'll work it out. Not sure what his reaction will be either, as we've always "sold" the upside of being an only to him. Anyway, hope those of you feeling rough start to feel better and I'm very glad I found this thread!

Hpbp · 16/05/2012 14:05

Gothin and Knottyhair, welcome to the club ! it seems that we all had a shock when we first found out ! but it is the nice thing about nature's mysteries... so welcome and enjoy

york67 · 16/05/2012 14:15

Hi lrm. just seen your post.Basically they take various measurements of different parts of baby. Spine, limbs, head etc. Check structures inside brain, heart, kidneys etc. I got a very fuzzy photo. 12 week photo much better. She didn't ask us if we wanted to know sex. I personally didn't want to know anyway but it would have been nice to be asked. think dh would have liked to know after I left room.Feeling a little deflated although I know I should be glad all appears well.
At least I now fell I can go shopping for maternity clothes. Also have to get some baby bits as we had started to get rid of stuff.

york67 · 16/05/2012 14:18

Welcome new ladies.
Knotty my situation is similar to you. Completetely unplanned with much older dc. In my case 8 and 6. Older dc desparate for a new baby. Had pretty much told her that it wasn't going to happen. Both are thrilled and we kept it secret till 12 weeks too.

exexe · 16/05/2012 14:48

ValiumQueen I'll be usuing annual leave too. I'm due to have an elcs too at 38 weeks I think so it will be sometime in the 1st week of Oct. I will be taking a whole year. I did so for both ds.

LRM I get a headache once a week and sometimes they last 4 days! I did get them in my other pregnancies too. Are you doing the usual things to look after yourself? - plenty of water, regular and healthy eating, not too much sugar and lots of fresh air in your rooms if you've been using the heating.

KMR I was very shocked about dc3 too and thought it was an awful mistake and was quite up and down about it initially (sorry baby!) but now I'm loving the idea and looking forward to a nice busy chaotic future! My other 2 will be 7 and 5 and love the idea of a new baby in the house.

York67 glad scan was fine. Ignore insensitive comments.

Gothin Congratulations! I love stories like that.

Hpbp you are very organised! I breastfed my other 2 for a year but I'm not too sure if I can exclusively feed this time. With my other two I had the luxury of taking time to do stuff, staying in pjs if I'd had a bad night etc but this time I have to get up for school runs. I'm thinking of mix feeding - bf and one bottle a day so dh can do one night feed.

I've still got the changing table and a crib. I used the sink as a bath when the ds were tiny. I'll have to buy a cot.

Knottyhair Congrats! I recognise you from the Shred/Jillian and weightloss threads (lurker) Great news :)

I have managed to sort out various pressing bits and bobs today. My house is a tip and I haven't sorted any dinner out but I've dealt with some urgent paer-worky stuff. Though I still don't have a midwife Angry
