Hi
I am 43 and expecting my first and these next several months are going to be a challenge so hoping to meet others in the same situation.
I can believe I have a baby growing in my dusty cobweb ridden womb. It has taken me 3 weeks to get my head around the whole thing and it is still worried about the future and being able to cope. My partner is fab and great helping me with the ups and downs of baby hormones. Nothing beats hot sweats, night panics and freeze in the middle of tescos wondering our we doing the right thing. I feel better this week and got my head around things .
Any ladies who also need support or just to have a good moan every now and again. xx
Ps thinking about having a toilet built next to my bed to save time going to the loo quite a bit in the evenings!!

Bananna - Thinking of you and let us know how you get on honey. Loved the comment about the slaves!!! I am managment so I will see what I can do hahahaha !! I am my worst enemy I work like a crazy but I have stopped moving heavy equipment in the last 4 weeks. They do a risk assessment and I have a hundred plus eyes on me at all times. So I have to be a good girl.

Welcome KMR - wow three little ones you are going to be a fountain of knowledge for some of us. I am having my first at 43 . I am due 4th October so 16 + 5. You are so welcome to join the oldies , all the ladies here are fab, positive and up for a laugh .

Welcome Mummywilliams - Super wow 4 little ones

Herecomes - Happy Birthday for Saturday. xx

Fjordmor - Hope you enjoy your chocolate. Tai Chi love it did not think of that for a work out. I use to live in Hong Kong and we use to do it before school so takes me back, so will give it a whirl in the morning.

Question for you ladies who have been pregnant before - I am massive for 16 weeks.I have gone from a size 12 trousers for work and now in an 16, my bump is huge even the mid wife said I was big. Lost sight of the lady garden weeks ago. Colleague at work is a week ahead and cant tell. I know we are all different but crap.

LRM - I'm 16 weeks and mahoosive! Contemplating a bump support already! I'm a bit overweight anyway but it's all belly (with the bits of fat I had pushed to my sides like love handles Hmm - like a giant helium balloon stuck on my front! Even my belly button is trying to force it's way to an 'outy' on bloated days (it won't be long Confused)! I know that part of it is several very large fibroids that I knew I had before I got pregnant and that had my belly looking about 4/5months before I was pregnant so it's a bit like having 3 uteruses in there with 3 different babies in. Now I look about 7+ months I swear! I keep hoping that I'm just growing bigger early but won't keep growing at this rate all the way along Shock. Also haven't seen the lady garden for a while Blush and am wondering how to go about 'tending' it without doing myself an injury Confused. (P.S. - despite not having a very sweet tooth, chocolate rocks :))

Evening Fabulous Forty-Somethings!! Welcome newbies.

Just a quickie from me as a bit tired after evening NCT class.

Banana have you tried Evening Primrose Oil? Helps ripen the cervix apparently. I was told that tip by Doula friend. Hadn't heard of it before. Googled it and found lots of others, though please don't be tempted by Castor Oil!!

LRM I'd make the most of looking big and ham it up a bit at work especially so they go easy on you. Smile

Fjord I invested in a fairly serious looking bikini trimmer to avoid possible injuries. Grin Thought it was safer than Immac/waxing/shaving!!

Waves to all. Am off for a quick pre-bed top-up of chocolate.

FF xx

exexe · 25/04/2012 10:14

Hello everyone.

Hope you're all doing well.

Fjord I slap on the veet. That way I don't have to tend to it for a while again!

Littleredmonkey do you mean size 16 regular or maternity? I wouldn't worry about it too much. Everyone is different.

ValiumQueen belated birthday wishes! Are you going back to slimming world? I've been sticking to it all week except for a bit of a binge last night as I felt so hungry, but it feels like I'm eating too much.
I am following the rules but I'm so used to restricting my calories and carbs that this diet seems a bit wrong. Anyway, I'll find out on tomorrow at my weigh in.

I am obsessed with pelvic floor exercises. Full control of my bladder is vital to my quality of life Smile

rosieposey · 25/04/2012 10:32

Sorry i haven't posted for a few days ( or a week to be exact ) I have had such a busy week and was feeling a bit pessimistic about everything so was holding off posting. I have picked myself back up now though and just can't wait to get through the next 6 and a half weeks.

I am going to book as scan for the end of next week when i am 6 weeks 5 days so that hopefully a heartbeat can be seen. I used a great clinic in Oxfordshire in my last pg for private scans when i needed reasurring and she found DS's hb at 5 weeks 4 days so hopefully something good will show at the end of next week.

1st Ante-natal at the hospital today as well as i have diabetes so need to get on insulin asap - a bit of a pain but will do anything to make sure this lo is ok and not getting horrible high blood sugars.

It's nice to see you new ladies :) 'lots of cheese', 'MummyWilliams' and KMR. Hope you are all doing well - totally understand how you feel 'mummywilliams' I didn't have a molar but before DS 4 years ago i had a ms at 11 weeks and feel paranoid still especially given my age and medical condition - am rather glad i am being monitored from early on this time.

Could someone change the copy and paste list? Sorry i should mention that this one will be DC 5 - my oldest is nearly 20! and i'm a bit scared to change the list as every time i have tried previously on other threads i mess them up!

No morning sickness but boobs are really painful! DH got shouted at yesterday for going over a speed bump at 5 mph Grin Is anyone going to (or has had) testing? I did for my 1st two and DD2 had a high risk for downs - i had an amnio and she was fine but i swore i wouldn't do that again (the amnio) so i wonder if there are other tests i can have to give me an indicator that are not invasive, i wouldn't do anything adverse if i did have a baby with downs but i would kind of like to be prepared iyswim?

Banana - how exciting! Curry or Pineapple might do the trick? Perhaps your lo will make an appearance before induction - fingers crossed for you :)

Exexe - are you following Slimming world extra easy? I am thinking of going on it as i am snacking and already have put on 2lbs and im only 5 weeks - i am 4.5 stone overweight to begin with so i really really don't want to put on anymore. Are you still getting weighed even though you are pg?

exexe · 25/04/2012 10:46

Rosieposie I joined when I got pregnant! I think its the only slimmimg plan you can follow when you're pregnant.
I told them I was pregnant and they said very nicely that although I'd be gaining baby weight, I'll be losing my own fat weight. Sounds ideal! Smile

ValiumQueen · 25/04/2012 12:34

I have gone back to slimming world but am not really sticking to it. I am going mainly to support DH. I feel as if I am fighting a losing battle. The sickness and my food aversions is proving challenging. I was doing so well until four weeks ago. I have put 5.5lb back on which is annoying. I am off sick too which is not helping my healthy eating. I must get my finger out - I am hoping my scan tomorrow will give me the boost I need.

oo00PIXIE00oo · 25/04/2012 14:00

Hi ladies am sitting with a heavy heart - started bleeding this morning so am booked in for an emergency scan in the morning :( trying to be positive but thnk am just clutching at straws - good luck to you all and please all take it easy xx

exexe · 25/04/2012 14:02

((hugs)) Pixie so sorry you're going through this. Fingers crossed for you for your scan tomorrow. Stay positive and strong......

KMR281 · 25/04/2012 16:05

och Pixie, all fingers and toes crossed for you. Really hope all ok.

i'm slightly more good excited today, rather than scared excited. DH says he will 'get house organised' in preparation for baby (due I reckon in Dec). I will not hold my breath... but rather do it myself!

Tried to phone to set up my booking in appointment, but you now phone the hospital directly, but only from 8.30-12noon, and it's constantly busy. If I can't get through I will just go in person as I'm quite close.

looking forward to telling my two boys, but waiting till after first scan. hope all other 40ish mummies and mummies to be doing ok today.

Midgetm · 25/04/2012 19:38

Evening all, pixie got everything crossed for you.

Posting from phone so a bit shite. Also a little worried with some cramping a lot of today. Not ligament, hoping gas! Anyway trying not to be demented about it but may get the Doppler out again.

Long day at work, no break and now totally knackered. My second trimester energy really still hasn't surfaced. Or may e it's just harder when you are a bit older....

Lovely to hear posts from the over 40's who have already babes in arms, I know we aren't that rare a beast (my mum was 40 when she had me and that was in the old un days) but still nice to imagine how close we all are to that ourselves.

good luck with the scan VQ

Think I am rambling it's the immense tiredness. X

littleredmonkey · 25/04/2012 20:36

Fjordmor - Hey I will stop moaning bless ya honey. You made me laugh about the lady garden , dont injury yourself tending to it. My partner is on garden duty this weekend !!!!!! god help him. 2 tubs of immac should do the trick

exexe - size 16 normal, but will need in the next week mat pants I am sure. Keep foegetting to do floor exercises must try harder

Pixie - Take care and got everything crossed for you

midget- hope your cramps have easied off and relaxing . Ps cant beat a spot of rambling good for the soul.

Day off from work tomorrow cant wait for a lay in and chill out already done 33 hours this week and still 2 full days to go .

heidipi · 26/04/2012 12:06

Hello ladies

I've been hopeless at posting and keeping up with this thread, but unfortunately I am hopping off for the time being at least as have had a mmc - very sadly found out on Monday that the baby stopped growing at 8+3 wks which was 3 wks before the scan. If there is a dates/stats list could you take me off pls? Thank you.

It's my first mc however and I had DD at 41 with a very easy pregnancy and straightforward birth, so we definitely hope to try again.

Good luck to you all and take care, will hopefully be back.
xx

blackcatsdancing · 26/04/2012 12:22

heidipi so sorry for your sad news. I lost mine exact same age and also found out 3 weeks later. Really hope to see you back with good news in a few months time.

herecomesthesun congratulations, lucky you. Do you mind me asking if it was an assisted conception and whether you used your own eggs?

bytheseaside · 26/04/2012 12:29

Heidipi I'm so sorry for your very sad news

Pixie - hoping you are ok today?

Welcome KRM and MummyWilliams, wishing you lots of luck on this journey and looking forward to benefiting from your experience

littleredmonkey - You made me laugh abut the gym, and omg: you fished a ring out of a hospital loo? that brings out the ocd in me!! You are made of stern stuff

rosieposey I think early scans are a great thing - really reassured me, and I think knowledge is always a good thing, hope yours goes well

Feel bad about posting good news today, but I have had my 12 week nt scan and blood tests, and it came out as low risk despite us being comparatively ancient and me fearing the worst - thanks so much for the fetal medicine centre tip Jollster (and others), it was the best thing we could have done. Rosieposey I'd really recommend them if you want more accurate / extensive info than you'd get on most NHS scans, but don't want an amnio. I think they must have scanned me for 40 minutes - they really checked carefully.

On the embarrassingly big bump topic, when I met my midwife I asked her whether it was normal to look so pregnant at 12 weeks, and she said that when you get older the muscles can be a bit slack!! Well, she has a fair point, on both age and slack fronts, but still ... I'm loving my bump so much I don't care though - never thought I'd have one.

Hello all other oldies :)

exexe · 26/04/2012 13:31

Heidi really sorry to hear your news. Hopefully we'll see you back soon.
Pixie thinking of you today. Hope you're ok.

littleredmonley you may very well be a size 12 or 14 in maternity then so it can't be too bad.
bytheseaside great news about the scan. My muscles are really slack! I don't know how I'm still getting away with not telling people. Everyone must think I'm just putting on loads of weight!

I'm having a very tired day today. I really need to get stuff done but am finding it hard to get up. I've got urgent paperwork to deal with plus the usual cleaning up. Place is a tip.

heidipi · 26/04/2012 13:42

Thank you and bytheseaside that is great news about your scan - good news is good for all us oldies. Enjoy that bump!

Midgetm · 26/04/2012 13:50

heidi so sorry to hear your news. MMC's are cruel but your attitude is right, Gerry, try again. Took me 9 pregnancies to get here so I speak from experience. Sending you a virtual hug.

Will try and post longer post later as at work (struggling to keep eyes open) but just got official NT results back and amazed to say it was a risk of 1:2300. Not bad for An old bird eh? Just wanted to share.

My bump is big but hiding it well, still not told work and hoping to keep quiet for at least 6 weeks when I will be around 20 weeks. An I insane? Catch up later

ValiumQueen · 26/04/2012 15:49

So sorry heidipi. Wishing you all the best for the future.

Great news bytheseaside.

All went well with my scan today - dated 13 weeks which is 4 days more than I thought. Declined testing and was grilled a bit about this. Due date now 1st Nov, but will be ELCS so 1 week earlier all being well. Very happy x

lotsofcheese · 26/04/2012 17:41

heidi sorry about your sad news, thinking of you - take care of yourself

midget great news about low risk results :-)

valium brilliant news!

I was at my GP this morning - already have early (8week scan) booked, have now got 1st midwife appt through for a couple of weeks after that (late May) and a 12 week scan in June - will also recive a further consulant appointment before 12 weeks due to high-risk pregnancy - all seeming a bit real now!

My BP was 84 diastolic (lower figure), a bit higher than usual for me but putting it down to getting a 3 year old out the door on my own for a 9am appt!

littleredmonkey · 26/04/2012 18:23

heidi - Sorry to hear your news keep positive and look forward to posting again really soon.

Midget- Brillant news about your low risk results, yu must be very chuffed. Cant hide my bump it is huge, loads smaller in the morning as the day progesses and I eat it grows and grows.

valium - Brill news honey and glad you are happy

lotsofcheese - I was told I had to see a consultant to which I saw last week due to being older but was very straight forward. Hope you have the same stress free appointment I had.

Bythesea - Glad your scan went well really pleased for you . Rock you bump !!!

exexe- House also a tip when I woke this morning, couldnt be bothered and ploughed through 4 slices of toast with marmite and peanut butter on with some eggs. Chilled for a bit and started the house work, my god it was dull am knackered but will attempt the gym with the ending being a mcflurry. I dont know about anyone else it all seems to be about sleeping and food at the moment for me. I am going to try on some new mat pants this weekend as my others dont fit so well. I have checked on line and you are right about the sizing.

Evening Ladies

Long day so not much chat from me tonight but. Didn't want to read and run though when I saw Heidi's post. So sorry Heidi. Take care and hope you are on the road to recovery soon. xx

heidipi · 27/04/2012 07:28

Thank you all, you really do meet the loveliest women on here. [hormonal mess emoticon] Smile

Midgetm · 27/04/2012 07:44

heidi make sure you come back and let us know how you are getting on x

oo00PIXIE00oo · 27/04/2012 09:50

Hi ladies sorry for not messaging sooner but not much to say - the scan results were inconclusive and I have to have another in two weeks - the not knowing is killing me we are not sure if we are holding out for hope or just delaying the heartbreak. On the plus side my ovaries are very healthy so even at 42 (nearly) there is no trouble trying again and my OH says intends to try a lot ;) - guess he didn't realise how much he wanted another baby until this happened - holding him in my arms crying last night was just plain awful.

Hope to be in touch with you all soon and will defo keep an eye on the posts to see how you are all doing xx
