Part 2 was getting full so take a biscuit from my trolley, have a cuppa and put your feet up!

No idea on which to go for Vino - I think the cribs look nicer but maybe a moses basket would be better as can move it up/downstairs more easily. Hmmmm....

How was your first day back frilly?

Also can I have the link to the facebook page please?

I want to get buying now but DH is having none of it! Granted we are moving in a fortnight but I just want to have a bit of a wander round the shops and try out the pushchairs!

JParkson · 27/02/2012 16:36

vino I have a small bed-side cot/crib for LO

I started off using the pram part of my travel system, but it was a lot of faffing about lugging the whole thing in and out of the bedroom. My friend gave me one similar to this - all I had to do was buy a new mattress for it.

JParkson · 27/02/2012 16:39

Hit post too quickly!

I started using the pram in both the bedroom and the front room, but after the first couple of weeks it was a hassle, so I set that crib up in the bedroom, and as I'm essentially in a small 2-bed flat with paper walls, I could hear DD whenever she woke up.

DD stayed in that till she was pretty much 4 months old

Vinolover · 27/02/2012 16:50

I'd forgotten about moving baby from room to room glitter. It's like my first time over again lol.
That's a really nice crib jparkson and really reasonably priced. I had a swinging crib before but never used that function. I think I have decided on a crib and will use the carry cot from the pram downstairs.

glitter my DH really didn't want me to buy anything yet and granted it is still very early but if anything awful happens it wouldn't be because I had put a deposit on our pram and they are really not cheap so I want longer to pay it off. I won't be buying any cots or anything yet but I'm looking around :).

0FrillyKnickers0 · 27/02/2012 16:53

Well. I got through the day...almost (sneakily online with 10 mins to go Wink). Sickness seems to be ebbing away as I am hungry more often which is handy. Thanks for asking :)

TBH Vino, I don't fancy it nor do I really have the energy, but I want to try and keep it regular. That way DH is more cheerful!!

Is there a difference between a cot and a crib or are they the same thing?

OP posts:
JParkson · 27/02/2012 17:01

cribs tend to be smaller versions of cots, and some can swing :)

I had a swingy one for DS, but my DSis wrecked it I had to let it go.

therumoursaretrue · 27/02/2012 17:25

Oh Vino I am jealous...I would love to get buying! My mum and I had a quick sneaky look around Mothercare at the prams and carseats on Friday but I havn't seriously considered anything yet as I'm still attempting to save a bit of money. DP almost has a breakdown everytime I mention it as money is tight but I can't wait to get things sorted!

We went to view an apartment on Saturday morning which is coming free in April (so plenty of time to get settled before August!) it was practically perfect in every way. Ground floor, 5 minutes walk from my uni, easy commute to work for DP, nice neighbours (I know them!) only downside was it was a bit on the small side; but not so squished that it would cause trouble! Of course almost as soon as we'd decided we loved it I got a text from the current tenant (a friend) to say the landlord had just accepted someone for it :(

Not happy but I suppose it just isn't meant to be!

MrsMigginslovespies · 27/02/2012 18:47

Hello all,

Just a wee one to say hi, hope everyone is well. I've also got itchy shins! Feeling tired today after a whole day at work (most of which was spent on the phone to IT. Grr). I'm borrowing my sister's moses basket and uying a new mattress for it then moving into cot. Have consultant appointment on Monday where I hope he'll say all is well. Had good results back from DS test which was a relief must say.

Still don't really have bump, just look fat. MIL thinks I look just the same... Hmm. Am 16 weeks on Wed.

Haggis and jacket potato for supper mit cheese. Happy monday night all x

Lovemarmite · 27/02/2012 19:07

Hi there - also have itchy legs but I think I have this every year at this time from the heating on and no sun? Have been slathering on lots of moisturiser and it seems to be working at last!

My face skin looks terrible but I am hoping that a blast of spring sunshine might help, or maybe getting more into the second trimester. I can't believe that 16 weeks means we've already done 1 month of the second trimester and I'm not bloomin yet.

Oh dear all this sex talk - starting to feel a little guilty that I don't feel sexy at all and just fat! Hope I get into it again soon...

Dinner - jacket potato, veggie sausage, peas and ratatouille - yum!

PictureThis · 27/02/2012 20:31

We're getting a crib for our bedroom and using the bassinette we had for DD for downstairs only. We got fed up wih carting it up and downstairs and she'd outgrown it after a couple of months.

Angel786 · 27/02/2012 21:12

Can you believe I started the aug thread only four months ago but soooo much has changed and ironically I am now having the baby on 27th july by c/s. needles please update whenever you're redoing the list, thanks! Feeling v nostalgic thinking back to finding out I was pg doing that test or three lol!

vino how exciting! Which pram did you go for?

I have the Moses basket from dd so will use that, it lasted her five months. Will need a new cot bed and room set for this lil one (but also need a new home with a room for him/ her first!?)

V scared of c/s but also so pleased it's all agreed and booked in!

Vinolover · 28/02/2012 06:56

angel you must feel so excited having an actual date for your babies arrival :). A couple of my friends have had c sections and they say they're great :). I can imagine it's a scary prospect though.

I went for the icandy apple and the maxi cosi pebble (car set). I'm very excited by it! I was going to go for the strawberry but have decided that since bubs is a he who will probably grow at the rate his brother did, then the bigger pram would be better.

I think I'm definitely going to go for a crib again (for the reason above). Just need to decide on which one :).

glittershoes · 28/02/2012 10:08

That is so exciting angel! Agree with vino, must be great to know when you will actually meet your baby!

Also exciting you have your pram vino and interesting what you say re crib v moses basket, in your experience then would you say that, for a bigger baby, a crib lasts longer?

No idea on the size of this peanut but my DH was 13lb 2oz when he was born and my BIL was 12lb exactly so preparing myself for a big baby. I was a normal 7lb 6oz but no idea how size/weight works!

Lovemarmite · 28/02/2012 10:14

Angel my best friend had a c/s as she had twins and it was thought best at the time. She was great afterwards, I think she healed quite fast and with twins she was up on her feet very quickly.

We've chosen a Bugaboo cameleon pram and a maxi cosi for the car seat. Been looking at cotbeds and also borrowing a moses basket and getting a new mattress for it first. Not buying anything though until 6 month mark and we're redecorating the room first but very neutral colours... crickey though 6 months is only 2 months away! Where is the time going already.

I agree, time has gone so quickly, it only seems like last week that we found out and when I first posted on here. Glad to be hearing all our thoughts and moans as it's really got me through it so far!!!

Lovemarmite · 28/02/2012 10:15

OMG 13lb 2oz!!!
I think I might have to start smoking to get a small one!!! only joking!!!

Vinolover · 28/02/2012 10:18

13lb 2!!! Flipping heck! That's just made my toes curl reading that. I don't think it really matters what you or you partner were because my dh was 6lb 8oz, I was 7lb 12oz and my children turned out to be 8lb 12oz and 8lb 9.5oz. I know my two certainly were not massive compaired to some babies but they were so long (im 5'10 and dh is 6'1)... This is why I think I will go for the crib. I must admit, I am slightly nervous as to how big this baby is going to be.

The3Bears · 28/02/2012 10:25

Hi everyone,

Vinolover you must be so excited ordering your pram, I cant wait to get our pram out and clean it up, also persuading dp for the all black bee + but he's not v sure as were supposed to be saving for car Hmm
lovemarmite Good choice with your pram, thats what we have I used it for my ds for 3 years and its still perfect now just need new raincover :)

Im not sure what do do about cots etc as We have a cotbed and were thinking just use this straightaway as ds hated moses basket, but now I keep thinking its going to be far to big for baby at first so should we get a crib or moses basket? Not really sure yet but want to decide soon and sort it all out.

MrsMigginslovespies · 28/02/2012 12:07

Hello all,

Good news re your CS date Angel. I'm having one too and guess I'll maybe find out on Monday once I meet my consultant chap. I think it's going to be around 9th August.

So, because we MIGHT be now buying a new build house (possible due both to helpful developer's incentive and kind PIL helping with deposit), I'm now getting totally ahead of myself looking at nursery ideas in case we move and are not in a school house (don't want to spend lots on expensive paper if we don't move). What say you to these wallpaper ideas for a feature wall?

This for a girl: www.cathkidston.co.uk/p-11630-cath-kidston-circus-wallpaper.aspx

And this for a boy: www.cathkidston.co.uk/p-15461-cath-kidston-vintage-car-wallpaper.aspx

What are you all doing with nursery ideas?

MrsLister · 28/02/2012 12:40

ooooh mrsmiggins that wallpaper is lovely! I'm a big fan of patterned wallpaper and I also love murals/wall stickers like these: pinterest.com/search/?q=nursery+wall+sticker

Just wanted to pop in quickly to say I got my combined test results and we are low chance - 1 in 6349 chance of DS.

It's a relief it has to be said :)

Next big date is the gender scan on March 16th. Am so impatient for it!

I've started tentatively looking at nursery equipment/prams etc. A friend of mine works for Stokke and said she might be able to get me a good rate on one of their prams which would be nice! Has anybody got any experience of their buggies?

Someone recommended Ikea for nursery furniture on the Facebook page so I'll deffo be checking that out.

Also heard from our estate agent yesterday - we should be exhanging/completing soon and in our new house by April. I'm so anxious to get in there before I turn into a hippo!

I did my first pilates class yesterday and have started walking to work - the stay fit not fat campaign starts in earnest!

These are my most recent pregnancy-related purchases from Amazon:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003HEKXAS/ref=oh_o03_s00_i00_details (to try and prevent stretch marks - am putting it on in the shower whilst skin is still wet)

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1905220502/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details (for obvious reasons!)

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0012KSDG0/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details (although worried it might be a bit 'tofu and lentil knitting' for me!)

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 28/02/2012 13:10

Afternoon everyone, I've missed so many posts - it's so busy on here. Welcome to all the newbies, congrats :)

MrsL your scan is the day after mine - can't wait to find out what flavour!

Angel that's really exciting having a date :o

Am writing this from my sick bed as I caught some sort of virus so was sent to Dr by Midwife and Dr sent me to bed - can't complain about that as have been shattered!

16wk MW appt went ok, heard the heartbeat :) she did warn me that she might not be able to hear it, but found it right away. She also said fine to carry on taking pregnancy vits, but to stop any additional folic acid after 12wks (which I wasn't taking anyway). She also told me off for not drinking enough - Opps!

You're all very good with the pregnancy-related plans and purchases. We've done precisely nothing, but that's because we need to find a house first. Confused. it's lovely reading about it all though. x

MrsMigginslovespies · 28/02/2012 13:15

MrsLister that twas me talking about IKEA as we had a rummage on Sunday. I was v snobby about it all before we went in then was pleasantly surprised. My sister got all her nursery things from IKEA and said they were great (and survived two house moves to boot).

MrsMigginslovespies · 28/02/2012 13:17

PS, MrsL, love the wall sticker idea. I also really like this site too for them:

Louper · 28/02/2012 13:40

Greetings all, another newbie, blimey that's been a lot of reading and I've only read the 3rd thread! It's lovely and reassuring to hear all having the same thoughts / concerns / excitements along the way though! I wonder if I can join you all - 14+5 due date 23.8.12, 1st pregnancy.

I'm off work sick the last 2 days, some sort of hideous viral lurgy that I can't shake off - suspect immune system busy elsewhere as I never get sick! Coughing is making my tummy muscles hurt ++. Harrumph. So no 'blooming' for me yet either, but at least the nausea has settled down.

I 'popped out' quite suddenly at the weekend, definitely a low bump there, wierd in profile, though there's plenty of wobbly stuff above it, interesting I've not really changed weight just shape. Trying to keep active and fit, swimming/pilates DVD etc though haven't quite managed that this week due to snotty and horribleness.

Done no planning, shopping or thinking about the reality of arrival yet (except mat leave plotting and lots of financial maths about me / DP returning to work etc etc). Still feels a very long way off, though I suspect it'll sneak up on me very quickly! Lots of mates have kids and I'm secretly hoping they'll want to offload baby stuff on me!

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 28/02/2012 13:47

louper you have my sympathy, my stomach/ligaments hurt so much due to coughing.. definitey no blooming here yet either :) congrats and welcome!!

warzone fab to see someone else due on the same date - yay! :o
