Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well, am back from hospital and they were all so nice. Felt bit silly going in but they were very reassuring and told me never to worry about coming in. Upshot is, they don't know why I've had a bleed, but could be a number of reasons. And the soreness is probably ligaments and all my pelvic scarrring from ops etc stretching. Ouch! Not a lot they can do except rest and take painkillers as and when. And he also said a c-secion might be a nightmare because of all my previous surgeries, so might be looking at a VB now which is a bit scary. Anyhoo, thank you all for your kind thoughts and hope you're having a nice day. Thanks

hamncheese · 04/04/2012 16:56

Thanks needles that's really helpful. Were you sick at all with DS? I think that's the thing that gets me most about pregnancy, nothing is predicatble! As someone who likes to have a reasonable amount of control (ahem) it's kind of hard to relinquish nearly all of it as to what your body decides it needs to do. Luckily that is totally worth it when you see the baby on the scan or, like today, hear the heartbeat :)

The advice from the MW today was that they will give you an anti-sickness injection with diamorphine but not with gas and air. She also said though that g&a may make you feel sick at first but you will get used to it as you need it more and contractions get stronger. It's frustrating that the only pain relief I am (at the moment) refusing to have - epidural - is the one that doesn't cause sickness. Oh well. I don't know if I am right to call it a paranoia... more a severe dislike and minor fear, hate feel like I am choking.

Based purely on OBEM I'd agree with you (from my very uninformed position!) poppy about the lack of an epidural. I just hate the idea of taking something that seemingly makes a forceps delivery more likely. However I guess no-one knows what they will need til they get in argh! And thanks for the overnight bag advice that's really handy, making a mental note to pack one tonight just in case!

Also talked to MW about waterbirth today and she says the rooms at Glasgow Royal Infirmary are not too much used so probably will be free so I'm now going to just stay at that hospital even if I do move as it is only 10 mins further away in car, so feel free to change that on the list needles whenever and thanks again for the list keeping skills Grin

Glad you are ok Miggins and hope things settle down. Hopefully the snow will go off too, it's too late for snow! It didn't come at Christmas so it has a cheek appearing now if you ask me!

Finally (blah blah) has anyone experienced this yet: sometimes my stomach will go really firm all of a sudden, and feel dead tense and taut. Is this stretching or some sort of very very early preparations for labour?? It's not like the ligament thing from before as it's the whole thing, like right up to my ribs and down to my pelvis. Not uncomfortable per se, just tight! Anyway wondered if anyone else had had this yet/at all?

Have a great evening I'm off to knit a toy dinosaur haha!

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 04/04/2012 17:07

Thanks for all your continued wishes, have been for a scan and bump is doing a-ok, growing fine and fluid perfect etc... So just waiting for drs to review me and hopefully send me home.
Have felt very down today, have been really calm up to now, but think delayed shock might be hitting. Burst out crying so much two mw's came to comfort me, bless em Blush
then felt really bad that I was distracting them from more needy patients!. Hey ho.

MrsM hope you can take it easy, and things ease off! Xx

NeedlesCuties · 04/04/2012 17:08

Miggins glad it went okay for you, and that the staff gave advice. It's so hard to know sometimes what's right and what is most suitable, but it's good you're seeking help early on and making some choices.

ham with DS I was sick a handful of times, that's it. This time has been a whole other ball game! Oh well, only have another 20 weeks or thereabouts, am sort of used to the sickness now. Hmm

As for the idea of gas & air: In labour I loved it. In fact, I took one puff and smiled, told the MW "I haven't been this stoned since I was a teenager" It was true, but DH was mortified, lol! It did make me feel like I was stoned or drunk, which was good for taking my mind away from the pain, but after a while it made my body tired. I think it's a bit like booze in that you're ok if you have a little bit, but if you have lots then you're sick, IYSWIM.

I refused to have an epidural also, plus my blood pressure can be quite low and they were worried I'd faint. I wanted a pain relief that meant I was able to go in the water and would be able to breastfeed straight away: gas and air seemed like the only choice. I'm not sure if you can labour in the water if you have pethedine? Maybe ask your MW.

NeedlesCuties · 04/04/2012 17:10

Poppy hope you are feeling better soon, take comfort from the fact that your LO is doing well.

I would offer you a share of my mini eggs... except I ate the whole bag of them this afternoon when DS was napping Blush

I am offering you a cyber Brew instead!

hamncheese · 04/04/2012 17:14

Thanks needles will ask her about what's ok in water. Concerned now I'm going to not enjoy the g&a as shamefully must admit I'm a complete lightweight and quite small... maybe just little breaths? ha! Grin

NeedlesCuties · 04/04/2012 17:29

ham I'm a lightweight too....or at least I was back in the days when I actually drank... haven't really done so since DS was born.

I'd say take little breaths and if you don't like it you can leave it and try something else. I'm not a huge girl either, don't think your body size has anything to do with its effect, but I could be wrong.

After a few hours on gas and air I was listening to the radio and thinking that I was part of their conversation Grin DH was expecting me to be detained in the psych building next door. Ahhh, happy memories of labour. There is a class picture of me in the water high as a kite on gas and air waving at DH. I'd love to add it to my profile but it would seriously out me.

Will stop typing now, as I likely sound barking mad!

capecath · 04/04/2012 17:34

hamncheese warning about diamorphine - if you have it too late in labour it can affect the baby's breathing. I insisted on getting it and baby came out not breathing which was very scary, so I am not doing that again! Doesn't mean it will happen to you, but just so you know...

WelshLadyCDF · 04/04/2012 17:44

Hi miaboo how did the scan go?

susiegrapevine · 04/04/2012 19:23

Hey everyone. Had the scan and we are having another little boy yay!! Everything else is good too yay!

Other news is my grandad did not get his op today as his heart rate is now really high like 150 to 160 bpm!! Ok for unborn babies but not old men!! So they may do it tmw if they manage to get it down.

Poppy hope you do get out today!

Finding it hard to keep up with all the names and who is not having a good time think its defo baby brain. Anyway sorry about that but I hope everyone is feeling a bit better now

Oh yes remembered about mrsmiggins bleed so hope all is well with baby. Can't imagine how scary these things are!

susiegrapevine · 04/04/2012 19:35

Oh yeah forgot to say was measure for a bra today. Was a 38dd before pregnancy am now a 38ff!!

hamncheese · 04/04/2012 20:06

haha needles I so want to see this picture now!

Thanks for the heads up cath it seems the only thing I don't have major reservations about is gas and air now! Oh well, would start spouting on about natural birth and g&a only but know that everyone wishes for that... will just have to wait and see and try to be as tough as possible!

Congrats on your boy susie and still hoping all is well tomorrow!

ps mmmmmmalteaser bunnies

panpipe · 04/04/2012 20:31

hamncheese I know what you mean about belly tightening! Mine seems to change from day to day and from morning to night; generally in the morning I just look quite flabby and wobbly but the odd evening recently bump has gone really tight and hard - probably about the only time I can say that's been the case for my stomach Grin

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 04/04/2012 21:13

Just a quick post to say I'm home - yay! :o under orders to rest up and go straight back if I bleed again. Under two consultants now, and have 2 checks booked in over the next two months, including another scan. This bump will have been scanned more times than a bar code :)
Thanks for all your messages. shattered, but will catch up on posts tomorrow. x

tashaw28 · 04/04/2012 22:54

Haven't been on for a few days and OMG have missed loads! poppy and miggins do hope you are both ok now, are you still in hosp poppy? I had a very big bleed with DS2 but it was right at the beginning and then nothing, but even now I still check the toilet paper every time!
Susie hope your grandpa is ok now, took the kids to see mine today who's going to be 91 in 3 weeks!!!
Also, big news, have my scan finally tomorrow, sooooo excited but also nervous they'll find something, have been feeling lots of strong movements though so at least I know it's in there! Not finding out the flavour though as already have one of each, but judging by this thread it's prob a boy!!!!
Can't remember who said their womb was tightening think it was ham? But same thing has been happening to me most nights, like mini braxton hicks almost, was a big freaked out at first but I'm going to ask about it at my next appt, in about 8 weeks!!!!

hamncheese · 05/04/2012 07:44

Yay finally Poppy take care!

Glad tightening is apparently normal panpipe and tashaw it was pretty uncomfy by bed last night, felt like there was not enough skin left to cover me ha! Confused

Don't know if any of you have tried this but we did last night and it was amazing. DH got his phone and put the flash light on it and then put it on the bump on one side. Then baby kicked or grabbed right where he shone it then he moved it a bit and it followed! Did it like 6 times all in different places it was brilliant.. what a genius baby is Grin plus made DH feel more connected as he still can't feel the kicks!

miaboo · 05/04/2012 08:01

Morning everyone
Well! My scan took an hour because baby wouldnt stop moving! she had me on one side then the other, then a 10 minute walk! and then still had to move the bed up and down to get all the measurements!
And it's another BOY! OMG 3 boys!! I feel really bad but I did have alittle cry to my mum after I got home Blush as this will be last my baby and wanted a little girl but all is well and he measured fine for dates :) and the reality has kicked in of its going to be cool having 3 boys!!
Had an impulse buy (buys!) of a very cute short and tshirt set and on mamas and papas website they had a bouncer reduced from £30 to £20 and the matching playmat down from £50 to £25 so there now on there way to me! Grin Now the name choosing begins :)

MrsMigginslovespies · 05/04/2012 10:26

Morning all,

Hope everyone's ok. Poppy, are you still in hospital?? And thanks again for well wishes. I actually feel better today. Not sure if the baby has moved a bit, or the stretching etc has easing, or the painkillers have kicked in, but so far, so good. Stiill getting odd tingles, but hoping they'll go. My bump also changes shape throughout the day too. V odd. Can be rock hard at night.

Am dashing out as some men are redoing all the tarmac outside and a) I hate the smell and b) we don't want to get trapped!

But here's my latest purchase which I love (and there are still some nice t-shirts in their clearance maternity sale bit too fyi):

www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Maternity/BP044-BBL/Womens-Royal-Blue-Spot-Maternity-Retro-Swimsuit.html

Lovemarmite · 05/04/2012 11:06

Great to hear you're doing better today MrsMiggins!

And great to hear you're out too Poppy
Susie hope your grandad goes for his op today and great news about your scan

Congratulations for finding out about all the boys too... I saw that my LO lip is more common in boys and so I am suspecting a boy now too and I don't want to buck the trend here. Plus I've actually bought a few items that are more boy-ish than girly - White company have a few sale things for around £7 and I had to get the really cute towel with ears!

Great to hear about deliveries - I am thinking gas & air only and water birth, plus will look into hypnobirthing soon. My new mw seems very clued up on hypnobirthing and runs classes and so I'll eek a bit more from her and then look into it more. My mantra atm is 'I am a woman and will enjoy childbirth' but that will change when I start to think about it more seriously and reflect on things - at the 20 week scan, DH commented that the head size is almost off the scale - so great, I have to push out the biggest head ever and I'm quite small, ahhhhh!!! Sorry if anyone else is thinking this too... hmm, mantra, mantra, mantra!

My bump definitely changes shape - small in the morning and larger in the evening. Some days feel pregnant, some days have more energy. Today, feel like a slug!

Happy Thursday everyone, ahh elevensies! Brew!

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 05/04/2012 11:15

Congrats susie and sending your grandad best wishes, I hope they can sort him out soon. I really need to get bra measured!

Thanks tash it's reassuring to hear about others who have experienced similar and have then gone onto positive outcomes :o Good luck with the scan today.

Congrats on your little boy too Miaboo Don't feel bad, all us newbie mums will be needing your top boy-baby tips!

MrsM how are you today? Love that swimsuit!

I am very pleased to be at home, although everything is just sinking in and I'm a bit of an emotional wreck. I feel a bit traumatised by everything, I know that sounds really dramatic, but I just think it's a bit of shock still coming through. It's a shame really as I was beginning to enjoy this pregnancy and now I'm scared to cough/sneeze/pee/poo/bend over... really don't want to be like that.. Confused

Just so pleased that bump is swimming around quite happily and has enough fluid and growing well. :)

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 05/04/2012 11:17

seeing as there are so many baby boys on this thread, I'll let you know that on the scan yesterday our LO has one slightly dilated kidney. The sonographer said this isn't anything to worry about, and there are several reasons, but I'll have to go back to see the consultant to check it.

Apparently it's really common in boys, and a little search on MN revealed the same, so if anyone else has this spotted at their scans, try not to worry. It's a case of antibiotics after baby is born (if I understand correctly).

Hope this helps. x x

capecath · 05/04/2012 13:07

poppy glad to hear you're out but also being monitored, and that baby is doing well!

marmite yes bring on the waterbirth and G&A! But then do things ever go as planned hmmm.... Ha, our DS has always had a large head (above the 99th percentile, not sure how that is possible), and then well above the top line on the chart, but he is absolutely fine and birth was fine too. Had all sorts of checks but think he is just going to be tall! His head growth has slowed down now and he doesn't look out of proportion at all. In terms of head size, it may have been to my advantage that he was 7 weeks early Hmm!! This next one has average size head, I was keen to check!

capecath · 05/04/2012 14:19

Oh my, we might just have had an offer accepted on a flat!!! 1st time buyers so this is all rather scary and exciting!! Talk about stressful too...

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 05/04/2012 14:21

Good luck capecath fingers crossed!! :)
