So.... gaviscon tastes like swallowing antiseptic cream Angry wtf

Loislane78 · 28/03/2012 21:45

Hi Ladies

Just wondering what you've all done about triple blood tests at 18-20 weeks; do they do these as standard or only on request? Nuchal scan said ok so just asking what everyone else has done. 1st bambino, aged 34 in couple of weeks.

Sorry to sound stupid if this is obvious, playing on mind.

18 + 5 :)

alisonmcg · 28/03/2012 21:54

Hi lois i had bloods taken at our first midwife appointment and got the results back at our 16 week one. Was told at the 16 week appointment that the next time I would get bloods taken would be at my 28 week appointment so I think they only take them earlier than that it you request it or if the first tests showed up something that they need to monitor. Although having said all that everywhere seems to be different so your area could offer tests before 28 weeks as standard!

fairtradelu · 28/03/2012 21:56

Gaviscon tastes like antiseptic? Nooo! Have just started getting serious heartburn (mainly after eating far too much so probably own fault) and was relying on Gaviscon as a magic cure. I was imagining it to taste like Calpol. Sounds like I'm going to be sorely disappointed!

Hope scan went well marmite and everyone is enjoying the glorious weather.

18+3

hamncheese · 29/03/2012 07:30

fairtradelu Yep it's ughh it smells nice like mint and then you taste it and it tastes exactly like germolene smells haha! I'm now getting it after every single meal!! I think it's cause I'm quite short (5'2) and don't have a very long torso so stomach is getting pushed up... goodness knows what it'll be like at the end ha! It does seem to work though I guess, taking it and rennies too.

Hoping to hear from marmite too... x

Vinolover · 29/03/2012 09:03

ham do you eat much White bread? I was getting awful heartburn a couple of weeks ago to the point where every evening I thought I would be sick with it but since giving up White bread it seems to have vanished. It could well be coincidence but it may be worth a go? I've also stopped getting awful headaches which is a blessing!

Lois with regards to the triple test, I had this 11 years ago when pregnant with my first but it wasn't offered to me 8 years ago when pregnant with my second or this time around. I just presumed they had fazed it out because of the NT scan.

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 29/03/2012 09:17

Try the chewable gaviscon, they're much nicer! Top tips for avoiding heart burn are to eat little and often, and drink milk (if you can). I've suffered from heartburn my whole life, it's rubbish :)

marmite thinking of you, hope it all went ok yesterday.

glittershoes · 29/03/2012 09:33

Hope it went well marmite.

Scan this afternoon, feel very excited and unsettled - not focussed on work at all! Also, I have managed to lose my letter so am now stressing that they won't let me have my scan without it!

Can anyone advise on whether I need to have a full bladder and whether I need to take a urine sample? I was told off by my midwife last appointment for not bringing one so not sure if I need to this time!

Good luck with your scan today vino.

MrsMigginslovespies · 29/03/2012 11:04

Hello everyone,

Am back from my travels around London which were great. Lovely christening party and generally good to catch up with friends and family. And we bought some cute things for baby to boot!

How did yesterday go, marmite? Hope you're both ok.

Have also got my scan today too and am v excited but a bit nervous too. DH is so convinced it's a girl, he's put a fiver on it Smile. Have there been any girls yet? Our name choice is Charlotte Amelia if a girl (maybe) and there are several boy options including Henry, Benedict, James, Charles and Peter. Never say we're not traditional...!

Off to have shower to try and shift headache (sigh) then to pick up DDog from kennels (sadly thrilled to see her).

Good luck with scans today x

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 29/03/2012 11:47

Good luck to everyone with scans today - how exciting!

Look forward to hearing how you all get on. :)

Antenatal appt with GP next week, but that's about as exciting as it gets at the moment..!

panpipe · 29/03/2012 12:21

glitter I don't think you need a urine sample at your scans but only need to give one at the MW appointments. I haven't had a particularly full bladder for either of my scans and haven't been told off either way! If you're worried I'd say it's probably better to turn up with a full one and check when you get there than madly try to drink loads if it's the other way round!

Lovemarmite · 29/03/2012 12:24

Hi everyone and thank you so much for thinking of us x

We went for the 3D scan yesterday afternoon and it looks like it's only a cleft lip and not the palate but they can't tell for certain. This was reinforced as I was called this morning by a cleft nurse and she told me that they won't know until the baby is here. I think we have to prepare for both though.

It's been a bit unreal to be honest, as they then start to look for other things that maybe related but luckily all organs are fine and so is the rest of the skin and so it's likely just to be isolated.
I guess we're feeling fine but dreading the comments by others who will try to say stuff to make things better and we just want matter of fact things said. It sounds silly but I think it's other people's reactions more than any thing that I am dreading. Just glad we've got the NHS as they seem really geared up for it and sorting it all very quickly.

Hope everyone's scan go well today x

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 29/03/2012 15:23

I'm glad it sounds like you're having a positive experience from the hospital, I think Angel mentioned this earlier, but last weeks episode of OBEM had a little boy with a cleft lip and they sorted him out really quickly too. I'm pleased to read everything else is ok, though.

Vinolover · 29/03/2012 15:32

marmite you certainly have the right attitude and I think (hope) people will surprise you.

I had my scan today and it was so lovely :). I was so nervous before hand but all seems well with him. He was lying in an awkward position but luckily all was seen that needed to be.

I hope everyone else is having a lovely day :)

WelshLadyCDF · 29/03/2012 17:17

lois I had a DS blood test at 16 weeks, I am 40, luckily the results said there was a low risk, I had a letter within a week of the test giving me the results and saying they would take no further action.

MrsMigginslovespies · 29/03/2012 18:25

Soooooo, had the scan and all went really well. And to DH's immense surprise, we're having a boy! There was no doubt either...! One thumb in his mouth, the other, fiddling, which was hilarious. Felt quite overwhelmed by it all and quite emotional, but am very happy. It's odd, because DH was convinced I was having a girl, but I wasn't as sure. I even had a dream last week I was having a boy! So a wonderful day, and I can now start to plan even more :) Have a nice evening tutti xx

NeedlesCuties · 29/03/2012 18:33

Congrats, Miggins! I've added your son to the list, he'll be up there next time I post it :)

My own DS (2 yr old) is currently sitting scratching at chickenpox and I'm off to get some cream to cover him in from the bathroom to stop him itching. Glamourous life this motherhood Wink Worth it though!

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 29/03/2012 19:52

Does anyone have any tips for sorting out swollen/puffy feet? I've found some Google tips, but any other advice welcome :)

susiegrapevine · 29/03/2012 21:11

gitter think its a bit mean your mean of your midwife to tell you off for not bringing a sample if I forget mine just gives me the stick to pee on there and then.

poppy tips for swollen puffy feet. Try to elevate your legs in the evening also do ankle/foot excercised. Rotate each ankel 10 times then stretch out your foot in like ballet foot style and then stretch it right up towards your ankle do this 10 times for each foot. Found it really helped in my last pregnancy. Will use again this time.

My grandad is still in intensive care on 40% oxygen but they are doing an angeogram (sp) tmw to try and temporarily fix the blockage in his heart then when he is better recovered they will do a permanant fix.

Was hoping to see him tmw but might not be able to due to op. But should be able to see him on sat yay! My mum checked it was ok for a pregnant person and they said they don't have anyone that could cause a problem in at the month so thank god don't think I could stand it if I could not see him.

Got scan on wednesday as well yay!! Me and dh finally decided we will find out flavour this time. Did not last time. Hopefully we can see my grandad straight after as well to show him and cheer him up.

capecath · 29/03/2012 22:09

Aaaarghhh!!! Bring on Monday scan, I can't wait any longer!!!!!!

capecath · 29/03/2012 22:15

susie sorry about your grandpa.. at least there is a potential solution. Is that where they put a balloon into his artery and perhaps a stent? My dad had a balloon followed by stents in 4 of his arteries and 3 succesfully did the trick for quite some time! So there is hope.

Gingerelle · 29/03/2012 22:32

Woo hoo 23 hrs till scan! Nervous but also excited. Is anyone else doing pregnancy yoga? Enjoying it but had to laugh at tonights advice on what to pack in your bag for the hospital....pot of plastic flowers and LED fake candles top of the list apparently!!

Hope you're all having a nice eve- nearly the weekend xxx

Gingerelle · 29/03/2012 22:33

Hmmm brain switched off I think, meant 11 hours till scan!

capecath · 29/03/2012 22:55

poppy just thinking, are you having puffy feet issues already? I am no expert and I may need correcting here but I am thinking that usually comes later on in the third trimester... have you mentioned to your midwife?
