I haven't told work about being pg yet. I'm 16 wks today. I was just speaking with a colleague I know well when I noticed him glance at my stomach as his eyebrows shoot up. My scarf (I'm wearing them to conceal pg) had moved to the side and my bump was evident. I blushed belisha beacon and 'confessed' and asked him to keep it quiet. Work are looking at redundancies in my department and I'm reluctant to put a bullseye on my forehead until I hit the stage where I'm eligible for SMP.

MrsMigginslovespies · 15/03/2012 11:11

C'est moi encore. Sorry! Am still stressing slightly about what to wear. has anyone got anything from matalan before? I've never been but notice there's one nearby and that they sell cheapo maternity stuff. See this here linky: www.matalan.co.uk/fcp/categorylist/dept/womens_womens-maternity?resetFilters=true&icmpid=wd_co3_110812

Any experience? Or will it all fall apart first wash?

therumoursaretrue · 15/03/2012 11:55

theressomethingaboutmarie It is a serum test that measures the risk for chromosomal abnormalities. The main thing it picks up is Downs Syndrome, my trust didn't offer a nuchal fold screening but did offer this instead, not sure why. I am going later today, but still not sure if I should have bothered; the outcome of a test won't change anything for us, so maybe I am just putting myself in a position of unnecessary worry.

marmite I am so sorry to hear about your cat, how awful :( our kitten is like a member of the family. It's terrible to think of them unwell. I hope you are feeling better today too.

Thanks everyone who has passed on support; I really appreciate it. DP's mum is home now after being put straight onto a course of chemo. She is so strong in her outlook too which is good.

dragonleo · 15/03/2012 12:43

The 'was it planned' as a first response drives me CRAZY! It's just plain rude I think!

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 15/03/2012 16:34

Scan went very well, and we are also having a little boy. Yay! :o

Lovemarmite · 15/03/2012 17:19

Yeah Poppy, fantastic!

O by the way - have you tried this goats cheese? I phoned them up and all their cheeses are pasteurised!
Abergavenney goats cheese
I think you can get it from Sainsburys and definitely Abel and Cole - tis yum! Wink

Westcountrylovescheese · 15/03/2012 17:21

Yeay congratulations Poppy! Can't wait till next Wednesday to find out... Has anyone noticed that we are boy heavy on this thread? Is it a sign, or are boys easier to 'spot'?

I'm off soon for an active birth/pregnancy yoga class. Is anyone else doing this? I'm hoping for as natural a birth as possible so thought I'd start getting myself clued up. Bit nervous as the class is mixed so there will be some very pregnant ladies there to scare me, feel a bit like the first day of school.

Vinolover · 15/03/2012 18:02

Fantastic news Poppy! There are certainly going to be plenty of boys around in august :)

Is anybody else absolutely starving all the time? These past few days have been awful for it. I have been very good with my choices of food but this evening I went out for dinner with my DD and have come back feeling like I haven't eaten anything :( I literally could eat another dinner Blush

hamncheese · 15/03/2012 18:55

Congratulations Poppy and I agree West seems like there are lots of boys emerging hehe Grin I think mine is a boy too... time will tell!

Has anyone been getting rib pain? I bruised my ribs with coughing when I had that chest infection and it was very sore all across a 3 or so inch strip direct under my boobs. It went away but now it's getting sore again. I notice it gets more as the day goes on and have to sit reclined back or it aches! Reading online but it's mostly about 3rd trimester and the baby hanging out under them and pushing them, with it located mostly to one side. This is just aching all over and I know baby is too wee to reach up there yet. Think it's just stretching that gets worse as I bloat throughout the day? (nice) Poor spare ribs!! Confused

Also just wanted to share; had a big old sea bass for dinner mmmm they are £2 a fish in morrisons atm (half price) YUM

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 15/03/2012 19:22

thanks everyone :)

I've been told that I have a low lying placenta at the moment, and baby is also lying right across, so head pointing left and feet pointing right. Got to be scanned again in 16 weeks, and if it's still a problem then I may have to have a c-section. That's a bit scary, I'm trying not to Google this. Confused

Oh Marmite - goats cheese!! :o thank YOU! I am getting straight onto A&C..

West I've not started anything like that yet, need to look into it. Vino Not starving, but eating more now (which is good, as I went off food a bit) and hamncheese no rib pain at the mo, although I do fancy a Chinese now replying to these posts :)

Vinolover · 15/03/2012 20:09

Oh Chinese.... How I stopped myself from asking DH to bring me some Singapore rice noodles I will never know! I seem to have a cheese obsession too!

I hope placenta moves and baby makes for head down poppy! It's funny how these babies get themselves into a certain position and stay there!

Westcountrylovescheese · 15/03/2012 21:12

No rib pain here Hamncheese. Poppy, hope it moves, but if it doesn't then it's best to go with the safest option for you and for baby...

Class went well, really interesting to start learning things and practising stretching.

tashaw28 · 15/03/2012 22:43

poppy same exact thing happened to my sil and as you grew bigger the placenta moves up with the womb so don't worry at all!

Angel786 · 15/03/2012 23:08

poppy good news on the scan, a boy, yay! Would love a boy as have dd but think it's a dd2... As long as it's healthy!

mrsm haven't tried matalan, let us know how you get on. Asos isn't great, q nice styles but totes inapprotes IMO I.e when you get big the clothes don't fit!

No bloods for me at 16 weeks either.

Had v weird dream last night that sonogropher phoned with 20 week scan result and said it's a boy (think im having a girl tho) and there was a 9 percent chance of a chromosomal disability that wouldn't have a lasting impact?! Think it was that (large) baileys before bed Blush

Sh*TTY week @ work roll on the weekend!

Angel786 · 15/03/2012 23:28

Forgot to say does anyone wake up in the morning with baby having wriggler around all night and you can feel the hard lump that is baby quite distinctly in your belly (q low down for me) so bizarre but I q like it!

therumoursaretrue · 15/03/2012 23:31

Yes I have felt this! Wasn't quite sure how to describe it, was trying to tell DP but I'm not sure he understood!

Vinolover · 16/03/2012 06:31

I have that too angel... I actually felt him turn into it the other day and thought it quite strange I managed to feel him like that so early on. He can certainly give big kicks now :).

Happy Friday everyone :).

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 16/03/2012 07:47

Thanks for the reassurance, whatever happens as long a bump arrives safely I don't mind, just a bit of a shock!

I clearly have a lazy baby, he doesn't wake up till mid-morning and start wriggling, seems to be quiet during evening & night.

Ohhhh Angel Baileys :o I love that stuff, I hope it helped, rubbish week at work here too! Bah

I had a dream on sat that it was a boy, but sonographer said it had an exceptionally large head that would get stuck Confused, glad only the first bit was true!!

Happy Friday from me too!

The3Bears · 16/03/2012 10:01

Hi everyone,

Marmite so sorry to hear about your cat, really wish it was better news :( hugs x

poppy congratulations on finding out your having a boy :)

angel ive felt this quite alot actually its very odd but I can tell what side the baby is on

Well I have thought all along I was having a girl and then yesterday I was shopping with my sister and I called baby a him twice and then to dp Blush Ive never done this before and it was quite funny so now ive managed to convince myself its a boy Grin only a week on Tuesday til we find out though so not too long to wait.

Hope everyone has a great friday

MrsMigginslovespies · 16/03/2012 11:01

Soo lovely to hear all the baby sexes coming out! i really like hearing about them all, so congratulations everyone.

I've had a terrible headache since last night (couldn't eat supper I'd planned as was fish and thought I was going to throw up). Went to bed, headache was so bad, it woke me up in the night. Have only just got up recently, having had 4 paracetamols this morning, cold flannel, dark quiet roometc etc. Tis still here (but slightly less intense). I'm getting these a lot. Am I being phobic, or should I talk to someone about them? Really making me miserable and i don't know what to do about them anymore. Woe is me.

Hope your news works out ok Poppy. I guess just be open to the fact that the doctors will do all they can to secure a safe and healthy birth for you and baby. Not sure if that helps?!

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 16/03/2012 11:14

Thanks MrsM :)

I am currently on day 3 of another one of those headaches :( so so so painful, so I really do feel your pain. MW dismissed them as not drinking enough, but I've been drinking loads more, I must've drank over 3 litres of fluid yesterday and it was awful.

Makes me feel sick too, and my head feels like it's going to literally explode (and it hurts worse when I wee Confused).

I have tried everything - drinking more, eating more, eating sugar, eating savoury... am at a loss! Lying down in a dark room with cold compress helps, but I can't do that at work (unfortunately! :o)

Any advise welcome here, too.

Really hope it clears up soon MrsM Brew

MrsMigginslovespies · 16/03/2012 11:52

Exactly how I feel too Poppy. Am also drinking enough (I think) and it's grim. Currently having another tea with sugar in case that helps (sometimes does) and off for a nice bath in case I need to somehow relax muscles. Bleuch.

Get well you too and here's a return Brew (with sugar!).

capecath · 16/03/2012 13:10

Yep another hungry lady here! I am a little obsessed with food at the moment hmm....

Think I am going through a weird paranoid stage. At 18 weeks, small bump, unsure if I've actually felt anything yet. Perhaps it's because we've not yet had the 20 week scan, not yet been measured, not yet heard heartbeat - I just keep dreaming that something is going to go wrong! Adding to the paranoia, DS1 was born at 33 weeks (was fine though). Sorry Poppy but we had a low placenta that just didn't go back up again. Did have a VB (not placenta previa) but with lots of bleeding, hence the premmie. So will be interesting for us to see where the placenta is this time.

Anyone else feeling paranoid or am I just being silly??

McBaby · 16/03/2012 13:10

I was having very similar headaches where only a dark room and cold flannel would work. And a tried lots of different things...

Finally took some antbiotics as the doctors thought it was sinusitus (althouh i wasnt entirely convinced but was desperate so took them) and also had accupunture .... and touch wood no really bad headaches for 2 weeks ( i had been getter them every few days for 3-4 days since the start of Jan.
