Hey all. ham I think it's definitely a Scottish being superstitious/traditionalist thing. My Gran was telling me the other day how she'd found the receipt for my Dad's pram a few weeks ago. Apparently they ordered and paid a deposit but wouldn't have it in the house, or have it fully bought, until he was actually born as it was bad luck. She remembers sending Grandad out to collect it after Dad was born.
Thankfully I haven't had too much unwanted advice yet, my family know better, and although I am starting to show I'm a bit on the chunky size so I think the untrained eye just assumes I'm fatter than I am. I did have half a pint of ale with Sunday lunch a few weeks ago and my Gran said, "Are you allowed that?" and I just said "yes!" and that was that.
I'm generally feeling pretty good, although I seem to have a permanent slight stretchy feeling in my belly. Most of you guys seem to say that you get days when it's sore, mine's just a bit uncomfortable all the time! I'm not worried, just think it's weird. My lovely hubby booked me in for a pregnancy pamper yesterday where I got all scrubbed and massaged, which definitely helped!

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 05/03/2012 16:42

I've said from the beginning that I think it's a boy - this is completely based on nonsense and unfounded, but that's what I'm going with. Will find out next week as well, and can't wait - dragonleo will you post what you're having or will it be a secret?

I've literally only just felt these weird feelings today, although I did think I felt something on Saturday ,but just put that down to my imagination, but you're a day a head of me so maybe you'll feel something soon :o

After all my lovely happiness, I'm now a blubbering wreck for no reason! Hello pregnancy!!

OP posts:
WelshLadyCDF · 05/03/2012 19:35

D'oh frilly don't be blubbering you were lovely and happy a just a while back, put some nice music on and listen to it with your little (sweet potato sized) baby. Sending love from Wales xx

susiegrapevine · 05/03/2012 19:57

Hey I have felt movements from about 12 weeks just before my scan. Know iy was baby cos was very low down and that's where the do the scan. Feeling more and more now. Feel less fat today. Many people have assured me I just look pregnant! Feel very tired still and defo have a slight cold I just wish it would come out properly so it can go again. Had sinus headache most of today. Had other headaches as well and I think it is not drinking enough.

0FrillyKnickers0 · 05/03/2012 20:13

Thanks Welsh Smile Just about to hop in the bath...mmmm x

OP posts:
PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 05/03/2012 22:00

Oh frilly hope the bath works, and you are spreading sunshine again tomorrow :o

Hope you feel better soon susie, having a cold while pg is rubbish!

Tusa pregnancy pamper sounds great :)

Angel786 · 05/03/2012 22:10

Hope things ease up glitter sorry work is such a 'mare.

Dreading 'feting up that I'm four months pg not three soon at work Blush

hamncheese · 06/03/2012 07:46

Hope today goes better for you glitter and all these losers back off!

tusa at least It's not just the nutty people I know then! Surely that is the last thing you need having JUST delivered a baby, to go out and pick the pram up for the sake of superstition!

Hope all your headaches are easing! Don't want to be really annoying but I feel great now this chest infection is gone. My mother was right all along, all the crap wouldn't budge until the 4 month mark. 16th week ended on Sunday and been feeling like myself since then Grin. Also read that it's because the placenta is literally just finished being made so that's why the good feeling is coming now. Anyway, I hope you all feel like this very very soon too.

So I'm a wee bit crafty sometimes and decided that I would make some of the bedding/decoration for the baby's cot and room myself. Got a voucher for Mandors (fabric shop up here) on itison (£24 for £60 to spend in shop!) and went up with DH to pick out the fabric we wanted. Originally was going to go with very hungry catepillar but they were running out so we went with this apply pattern which I actually like more now :) Made the quilt on Sunday and thought I would share it with you:

Happy Tuesday Thanks

woopsidaisy · 06/03/2012 08:36

That is gorgeous hamncheese! And it is so lovely to be able to make something for your little one.

I feel great today because I slept all night!! Woo hoo! Didn't get up until half seven-mad dash to get kids ready for school....so now have to rush to get myself ready too!
Hope y'all have a good day!

glittershoes · 06/03/2012 09:58

How talented are you hamncheese?! I wish I had a crafty bone in my body but my talents in that area a limited to the foam board signs I made for my wedding - and they were only paper spray mounted on to foam board!

We went to measure up at the new house last night, lovely to see it again although very empty and cold at the moment, looking forward to getting our things in and making it a home!

Powering through work today (and ignoring three emails that all question my work - bad I know but I don't have the energy right now!).

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 06/03/2012 10:12

hamncheese that is beautiful, so lovely. When we move into a house I'm hoping to get a sewing machine and become a bit crafty. Not enough space in our teeny tiny flat to be creative at all...!

Glad you're feeling better woopsidaisy getting a good sleep makes so much difference, doesn't it? :)

glitter ignore the emails and hope you continue to power through today.

Happy Tuesday, from me too! :o

Lovemarmite · 06/03/2012 10:28

Has anyone suffered from night sweats whilst pregnant?
I drenched the bed last night (sorry tmi!). Don't think it was related but I had terrible trapped wind in my upper chest yesterday and it was so painful that I spent all evening crouched over trying to get some relief and not squash my tummy too much. What a state!
Probably anxiety as my pussycat has gone in for a big operation today - cricky! what will I be like when the LO comes?!!

Feeling weak today. Saw doctor about my hip early this morning and she said all these things are common. Hmm so much for this blooming phase :(

Hope everyone else is doing well x

MrsMigginslovespies · 06/03/2012 12:19

Hello ladies,

Love your apple quilt Ham. Am v v impressed. My DSis made all sorts of cute things for her babies' nurseries, but I'm hopeless and HATE sewing, so it'll be bought from a shop for me alas. I can cook though...

Not had night sweats Lovemarmite but can sympathise, as used to get them a lot when I was ill and they're horrid. Poor you, hope you get well soon. I think often they're down to hormone changes but still grim.

Am still a bit Confused about my birthing plan (or lack of). Am trying not to get stressed about it, but really want what I want IYSWIM. Have you all got yours sorted yet?

And makes sense too Ham about placenta. Am still feeling tired and meh quite often, so hope it all buggers off soon, as whilst I feel fine-ish, I'd like to feel more fabulous to be honest! Am sure low BP doesn't help though.

Anyhoo, off to the ballet tonight with my Mum as a belated birthday present which will be lovely. Just hope I can stay awake...!

Toodlepip for now, x

WelshLadyCDF · 06/03/2012 17:13

ham that looks great did you put padding on one side? I might start sewing somethings.
I have just bought the sweetest baby dress, I don't even know what sex the baby is yet!! Confused

hamncheese · 06/03/2012 20:15

Thanks! You guys are all so nice :) Yep Welsh it has wadding inside. I put the patterned fabric face down then put a sheet of wadding ontop and then a layer of this fabric called "cuddlesoft" which seriously is sooo soft. The wadding and cuddlesoft layers were 2inches shorter all the way around and then I folded in twice on each side around, pinned down and sewed up! Really easy but one of the best things I've made. PROUD! Grin

marmite hope your cat's operation went well, me and my four kits sending get well wishes!

Angel786 · 06/03/2012 20:56

Oh my gosh ham that's fab! Well done. I wish I could do something half as good but alas.

mrsmiggins I don't have a birthing plan this time as c/s but with dd I didn't do the plan until 30 something weeks Blush then once labour kicked in it all went out the window! Do you have ante natal classes? Our hospital didn't do the labour one til q late, so i left the plan til after then.

Got q annoyed this am at my body no longer being my own. Sounds daft but just for a day I wAnted to wear normal pre bump clothes Sad

therumoursaretrue · 06/03/2012 23:22

Can sympathise with that Angel most of the time I feel quite content with my teeny bump and how I'm looking now but on Friday I was meeting friends for dinner and had a nightmare finding something to wear that I felt good in. Think it was the fact they were all in lovely, tight dresses which would look awful on me right now!

I am having the day from hell. DPs mum is very ill in hospital with a tumour, suspected cancer and naturally we are all worried sick. His younger brother also has leukaemia at the moment. I feel like good people who deserve a break just aren't getting one and I'm so sad and angry!! Sad

PoppyS34wantsgoatscheese · 07/03/2012 09:50

Welsh I love that you've done that :o

marmite also hope your cats op went ok? :(

MrsM I don't have any sort of birthing plan yet, to be absolutely honest, I'm not quite sure what one is Blush is it just want type of birthday you want and what painkillers?

Angel hope you're feeling better today, when do you tell work about the extra month? good luck with that.

rumours really sorry to read about your DP's mum, I went through similar things with my Dad last year, it's a very stressful time. And I agree with you, good people who deserve a break don't get one. I hope you get one soon. look after your self Brew x

Wishing you all a lovely Wednesday (despite the rain) :) Thanks

Lovemarmite · 07/03/2012 10:46

Ham you make it sound easy! How cool to be that creative!

Sorry to hear rumours about your DPs mum.

Makes me feel a little silly worrying so much about our pussycat. But thank you for your well wishes Angel and Ham
He had his operation yesterday but they found some dodgy bone crumbling in his gum and so a biopsy for infection or malignancy was taken and results in a week. Poor little thing, the infection is treatable but the malignancy is not good news. Hope to collect him possibly today but more likely tomorrow.

My goodness I hope it's just the anxiety that's causing my indigestion as I've had it for two days and it's torture at night and I had to try and sleep almost upright. Hoping this is not what the future holds from now on. Gaviscon from the doctors helps a bit but wow wee, I've not had indigestion for years!
Hope no one else has it and sorry for the moan! Blush

MrsMigginslovespies · 07/03/2012 11:05

Rumours really sorry to hear about your DP's Mum. Hope she gets weell soon. And Lovemarmite, get well soo to your cat too! I love animals too and hate it when they're ill. I know it sounds daft, but do love them Blush.

So, before the ballet last night which was lovely (and I stayed awake), I went to jojomamanbebe and bought these things:

Whadda think? Am v pleased with them, and the lady was so nice and helpful in the shop, letting me try on lots of things. Am esp pleased with the jeans, as although in a bigger size, don't make me look like a huge blob. x

fairtradelu · 07/03/2012 12:19

Hello Ladies,

I've been stalking this thread since I first found out I was pregnant but didn't want to join too early in case I jinxed it... Anyway, I finally feel like I am properly pregnant and even have a rapidly growing bump to show for it!

This thread has been a great comfort through the first few months of feeling like death warmed up. My energy levels are now on the rise but am still feeling like I am going to be sick most days, which is ridiculously annoying because I had convinced myself that 12 weeks was like some magic turning point where you suddenly start to feel amazing!

I'm 15+2 now and due on 28th August so a long way to go yet. It is my first so I am a complete novice. Hopefully I'll be able to add something to the thread from now on rather than just reading all your fab advice and stories and giving nothing in return!

I look forward to sharing the rest of the pregnancy with you all!

Vinolover · 07/03/2012 12:56

Welcome fairtradelu

Marmite I have been really suffering with trapped wind, indigestion and heartburn this time.. Last tuesday night was just awful and I was doubled up in pain with trapped wind and I didn't know what to do with myself. I can feel some trapped wind in my back today which I'm hoping doesn't turn into another hideous episode. Rennie are my new best friend :)
The night sweats could be down to constipation... I get feverish feelings when im constipated which recently has been a regular occurance Angry. Pregnancy really is glamourous isn't it!

Im so sorry about your DP's mum and brother rumours :( How awful for you all to be going through this.

Does anybody else feel like utter crap in the morning? I've been quite lucky in as much as I haven't been physically sick this pregnancy but every morning im dizzy, breathless and feel sick. It's driving me insane!

ballinderrymum · 07/03/2012 13:17

hi i haven't been on in a while, bump is developing well, i just want to see my 20 week scan to make sure everything is ok. i have my second midwife appt next week and the scan the following - has anyone found out the sex of their baby ye? not sure what to do

Tusa · 07/03/2012 13:28

Morning all! Mrsmiggins I got a top like that from H&M last week and love it, so much so I got my nails done to match! I put a piccie up the facebook page. Love the quilt ham we had a load of pretty mismatching patterned fabric to dress our tables with when we got married (we had a very bright wedding) and I've been very slowly making a patchwork quilt with them. It was going to be for our bed, I think it might now be for the bump's. The size reduction is something of a relief! I may use the leftover to make some bunting for the room.
