Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Dozeyland · 20/03/2012 20:58

I havent been able to get into see MW yet. am going to try tomorrow. or GP.
No news on DP.

Belly button has popped out even more - 3yr old nephew asked "whats that on your belly" made me laugh. "why is your belly big now"? is there TWO babies i there? bless him.

Feels like there are two! It's so strong and active. braxton hicks are so strong and frequent, and the hiccups!

So whats the betting on who will be early, on time or late?

i'm a 2nd timer, DD was 40+5........ hmmm I think this one wil be a bit earlier, but knowing my luck it will be a late one!

OP posts:
hippieshake · 21/03/2012 08:52

With the Braxton Hicks, is there any relation to them and how your actual labour will go? I've been getting them for about a month now (I'm 29+5) and they seem to be getting stronger this week.

Any news yet Dozey?

x

Dozeyland · 21/03/2012 13:53

Hippie I had them from abour 19/20 weeks with DD. and got strong from 30+, and then the weeks upto birth they were very very strong. I went for my 37week show round at the hospital and 3 midwives looked at me (whilst having regular tightenings) and said "oooh, I think you're going to have an efficient labour!"... and her labour was just under 4 hrs from start to finish, and less than 2hrs established. pushing for only 20mins. straight-forward labour... infact she came that quick, I had a PPH 1000mls 2hrs after having her (not pleasant but recovered the next day)

I'm not sure about the relevance to birth, but in my case it was true. My friend didnt have BH's, and had a horrendous labour ending in episiotomy, forceps and a week in hospital. My other friend didnt have them, and eve though she did it naturally she still had a traumatic time....

I'm really not sure what to expect this time.... well I know the pain. but just hope I can do it naturally again.

No news yet :( we're just in limbo.....

How is everyone?

for you 2nd timers: When you try to think back to certain things in your late prenancy, can you remember clearly? (as in.. when the CM increased, just generally feeling ready to give birth)

I am nesting already too. wanting to sort everything and anything out - even if completely pointless!!

SirCharles · 21/03/2012 14:36

afternoon all! sounding upbeat dozey - yay. hang in there.

I dont think I have had any BHs yet, i feel i am missing out!! Why do some people get them and not others?

always - i suppose the BH waking you is a good way of getting into practice for night feeds! i keep waking up but for no apparent reason. ALthough 2 nights ago i had a terrible nightmare.... DH had left me and so i went to my best mates but for some reason she decided that she & i were too different in our politics so she left me too. V unsettling and DH was quite upset i woke him up and then bemused when i kept saying "dont leave me". geez. emotional wreck in my sleep!!! The not sleeping is really getting to me now though. Will have to order a support pillow to greet me on my return to the UK (next Fri! it has come round so quick!). Fingers crossed it helps me sleep a little longer through the night instead of waking up every hour or so.

BTW - I am not bothering with a changing bag.... does this make me odd? I thought i might use any old bag i already have and put in it what i need. The special changing bags you can get seem very expensive for what they are and i would rather spend the money in the Mulberry Factory shop :)

Can anyone recommend a fold up wipe clean changing mat?

SirCharles · 21/03/2012 14:37

BTW Ladies.... do you have sling recommendations for a first time mum? I would like one but there is a dizzying array and again they are all expensive - at least £50+. How do i know which one to get? Should i get it before LO arrives or after?! Where should i find one?

Cewafwb · 21/03/2012 14:56

SirCharles I have never used a change bag, but keep a roll up change mat with wipes and nappies in it (must buy a new one as don't have ANYTHING!) in the car or handbag, and only once or twice did I get caught out. It always makes me laugh when you see mothers carrying around six changes of clothes etc etc. Make life easy, handbag and child. Thats it. I used a babybjorn, they are wonderful if you get the one with the back support. Which country are you in now? So jealous of your travellings!

Am seriously nesting, and can't as have no carpet or curtains or furniture or anything baby like. Also have a VERY SORE BOTTOM! My left botty cheek is AGONY and keeps giving way - it must be a muscle in my leg, but OOOWWWWW!!!

Dozey I think you are amazing how you keep going and keep being positive. Just know that we are all here for you, albeit not quite the same, but we can answer and help where we can! x

Rugbylovingmum · 21/03/2012 15:45

Hi all,

SirCharles - I've just found out we have a 'sling library' in town. You can go along after the birth and try out different slings then borrow one for a couple of weeks (£5 charge/sling/fortnight) before deciding whether or not to buy it. Might be worth seeing if there is one in your area - I think different people get on better with different slings so it's great to have a go. I didn't use one with DD as she wasn't a cuddly baby at all and refused to sleep on/with me, she just wanted to be swaddled and left in her pram but I'm thinking a sling will be great if DC2 wants to be carried more.

I had braxton hicks last time from about 30 weeks but by 18 days overdue still showed no signs of going into labour. One failed induction and an emergency c-section later and those 'practice' contractions seemed a bit of a waste Wink. This time they have been really strong since 20 weeks but I bet they are still wasted. Two of my NCT friends had no braxton hicks and both had fairly quick uncomplicated labours a few days before due date so I wouldn't worry about not getting them.

I'm looking for a new bag but not sure whether to go for a proper changing bag or just a big bag. I need a big enough bag to fit spare clothes, snacks and a drink as well as nappies and wipes and I'd like a few compartments so I can find things without too much rummaging. I haven't found anything I like yet - any suggestions???

Cewafwb - could it be a bit of sciatica? I had a horrible pain in my bum cheek and top of my leg and the midwife suggested sitting on my birth ball and leaning forwards slightly to ease it out. It worked for me so maybe worth a try.

SirCharles · 22/03/2012 08:24

a sling library... wow, never heard of one of those. thanks for the tip off.

alwaysanauntie · 22/03/2012 11:12

rugby thanks for the tip about sling libraries, just found out we have one in Reading, the meet monthly just a mile down the road & hire out slings for $5 a month! Great resource (although it does look a little "alternative patenting" so will have to see if I keep going to the meets or just use it to find a comfy sling :) )

Dozeyland · 22/03/2012 12:56

I have a Boba slumber-roo.co.uk/product/104/boba-2g-classic/boba-family/buckle-amp-hip

Its from 5months/15lb upwards though. but its great.

I may get an additional one for newborn stages.

Hi ladies,

I had a 4D scan on Wednesday. Was quite cool and we got a growth report which was nice. I was 30 +2 and the baby is already weighing 4 pounds! He is a little fatty, his abdominal cirumference was literally off the end of the graph - in the 99th+ percentile!! His head is also massive which makes me wince a bit! Haha. Everything else is average so he will probably have a huge head and belly and normal length arms and legs, it is funny when I try and picture it. He was opening and closing his eyes and grabbing his toes and we got some good pics and a DVD.

Finished the nursery and set up all the furniture. It is so cute, all blue and white.

I sometimes wake up with cramps in my calf and am like silent screaming until it finally relaxes. It is so painful. Havent had any Braxton hicks yet though....

I am going to look up those sling libraries!!

alwaysanauntie · 23/03/2012 09:13

Oops, went food shopping yesterday before I'd had lunch & came home with 2 custard doughnuts, gü choc & vanilla cheesecakes, bag of double Belgian choc cookies and tub of profiteroles with choc sauce and choc mousse... Didn't quite eat all of it & have brought an apple & a plum to work for healthy snacks today :o does that make up for my binge?!

On the plus side I blew up my exercise ball & it was such a relief to sit on after getting a really sore lower back from spending half the day cleaning, I highly recommend it (also seemed to give my stomach a bit more space after dinner so much more comfortable all round)!

Am also going to look at the spinning babies website as nugget is showing no signs of moving from breech bar a little wiggle one way or another, hopefully we can get some progress by 36 weeks as I don't fancy the sound of an EVA (if that's what it's called).

Hope everyone gets to enjoy the sunshine today, at least for a little while. I finish work 3 weeks today so getting quite excited (and more scared...) :)

karatekimmi · 23/03/2012 09:49

Hi all,

Off work yesterday and today as I have a head cold! :( can't breath through my nose, can't find a position to sleep in ( slightly irrational fear of sleeping on my back cos I read somewhere that baby can cut off circulation to legs and worse case can lead to gangrene and amputation!!! I know I shouldn't believe everything I read!)

always - I read somewhere that swimming breast stroke is one of the best ways to get baby to turn (although after my adLmission of what crap I read, maybe best not to listen to me!!)

Next week and April is looking busy regarding classes - hypnobirthing, antenateal, waterbirthing, plus a midwife appt. I'm not sure my pregnancy brain can cope with too much information!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Dozeyland · 24/03/2012 20:47

Went to see DP today. Had a good visit in the sun. just want to bring him home each week :( It really doesnt get easier. and the probation within the prison are being hard work in regards to the application. so hopefully his outside probation will get onto it. its one lady in particular in there making it hard work. just keeps saying your not going to get it etc.

Its just SO frustrating as his external probation said "Well as far as i'm concerned you will get granted tag" and then inside they dont say much positive? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

bump is rock hard, very active and i honestly feel like im going to pop! people say im carrying so neatly again and smallish but it just looks stuck on the front of me! I have a feeling its going to be another biggun though... DD was 8lb 9....

Hello Mummies!

Also due in May, on the 15th.
Feeling a bit down as I have a yucky virus and its making me even worse than I usually am :( Sooo achey and tired!
Wish I had the nesting instinct you guys appear to all be having. I am hoping mine will kick in soon :/ house could do with a really good clean/sort out!

Also will be saying to my work I need to finish off sooner, as I really don't think I can keep going until end of April :S getting jealous of my other pregnant friends who aren't working! It is really getting to me :S

SirCharles · 25/03/2012 22:28

hang in there dozey... sounds like mind games. my dad has just started working in a prison and he has found some of the officers love the power trip of being nasty to people who they know can do nothing about it. It really gets to him. However he met some much friendlier senior guys on a course and they were very different. fingers & toes crossed for you.

welcome katy. know what you mean about not nesting and feeling tired/achey. We are expecting our first child in May but I dont get back to the UK until Friday and then need to find a place to live, attend ante natal classes & dr appointments, see family not seen for the last 3 months AND acquire all the baby paraphenalia that everyone else already has. phew. April is gonna be a busy month and I really am starting to feel quite worn out! I need a nap every afternoon, especially as sleeping is difficult now.

Hope your virus leaves you alone soon and you can get plenty of rest.

We had a 4d Scan yesterday (only £50 out here). DH & I agreed it was a fun way to spend an hour but Baby would not play ball and spent most of the time looking the other way or putting up one/both arms in front of his / her face. Maybe thinking "No Paparazzi!!" Grumpy like its father (or perhaps all babies look as grumpy/serious until they learn to smile?!) and a bit of a short arse too - measuring weeks ahead on head size and abdomen, whilst legs are behind. Am hoping there us still plenty of time for the legs to catch up & everything else to slow down. V cute ears though and we did get some 3/4 shots of the face.

Allegedly s/he already weighs 2kgs (about 4.4lbs according to google). Sonographer reckons B would usually put on about 200g a week so if B stays on that trajectory and is born at 40 weeks it should weigh 3.6kgs/8lbs...... lets hope we dont go over!!!

Is anyone else suffering back pain around your ribs (about level with breasts)? Started recently on the right hand side of my back... the only relief is to stretch my arm above my head but i cannot do that all day! Dont know what has happened but i think B has switched sides..... head is down but spine is now on my left and feet/hands on my right. Hope this discomfort does not get any worse or the last 2 months are going to be very tiring indeed!

have a great week everyone.

Wommer · 26/03/2012 11:56

Morning all,
Feeling a bit knackered today but otherwise full of the joys of spring :)

katy welcome aboard Grin we started of well - have a Moses basket and a crib and a travel system but haven't bought anything recently... Am fighting a battle to get dh to give up his "study" which is going to be the nursery before the baby is born - his argument is that the baby will be sleeping in our room (not bed) for the first 6 months so he can keep it until then. Eminently sensible and practical but I WANT TO NEST!!!! stamps foot, sticks out lower lip....

dozey sounds like you've just got a nasty one to deal with who hopefully gets their kicks out of upsetting people to make up for the fact they've got no real power at all.... Fingers crossed!

Had my first birth dream last night... Was in a public loo and gave birth to a boy who was the size of a mouse (due to being 8 weeks early obviously). This doesn't tie in with the internal beating that I get most days - don't think a mouse sized boy could do that!!
The brain clearly does very odd things! Lol Smile
Turned 32 weeks yesterday and have 6 weeks left at work... Think I might regret pushing it quite so close to edd...
Have a good one all
Xxx

katykuns · 26/03/2012 15:32

SirCharles.. I know what you mean about trying to fit everything in... I am panicking because everything takes so long! I have awful achiness in my back and pelvis.. bending is not my best friend! lol
I have a pain that is a similar area - that can only be eased by me putting my arm up... but its only in my left breast! Feels like someone is sticking a large knitting needle through my nipple... its awful :S

I have forced myself to spring clean the bedroom, hoping it might spark some nesting instinct - instead... I am just tired and achey and sitting in front of the tv hehe! :P
Having a bit of a worry over our bedroom in general, as it is a major dust trap.. wondering if I can get one of those little dust robots that trundle around hoovering all the time - that would be nice lol.

Wommer... we have lots of things already, but not the crib. We were going to do a big trip to Ikea (we are massive ikea nuts lol) but its over 2 hours away and with how I am feeling, decided against it... seeing I am the driver in the family, think I would be knackered just after the journey, let alone after trapsing about the store all day!

I am also 32 (nearly 33 weeks) so you were obviously as optimistic as I was with how long you can work. I am thinking I must have a word with my employer, as I really don't think I can keep going...

Hope everyone is having a good day - its lovely and sunny here :)

Dozeyland · 26/03/2012 21:16

Hi All,

Booked in to see MW today as I feel like by has dropped and been getting very regular BH's, lower back ache and tenderness low down.... lucky I went as baby is 3/5 engaged! So she has told me to take it easy, with being my 2nd pregnancy (fast labour first time) she says that I may even be 1-2cms already at this stage as it is common with 2nd timers without knowing.

Also went through my notes and I didnt realise the consultant has written to have a drip in this labour :s. quite annoyed as she didnt explain that to me (its because I had pph 1000mls 2hrs after giving birth) but MW says I may be able to negotiate this and have it after if needed.

Didnt weigh myself today, So I will soon as I feel like i'm big (even though people say opposite.)

Getting very fed up with one person telling us DP will get tag, and another saying no. :@

OP posts:
Angelyaz · 26/03/2012 23:58

Hi all,
dozey sorry things are so unsettled for you right now with DP. I hope you get some clear answers soon. Exciting that baby is 3/5 engaged already!

I am in the middle of a hormone surge I think. At least I hope so, because otherwise I have no reason for the extreme anger, fury, unjust feelings, bitchiness, tearfulness and sharp tongue that I am feeling/displaying, and have done for the last week. I finish work Weds morning, and am SO over work it is untrue. I hope this feeling of unease is going to leave once work is over. The worst feelings are when everything seems SO UNFAIR like I am a teenager again and the world is totally against me. And to be fair to the people around me, if they say nothing I feel ignored, if they say anything I am annoyed by it and just want them to shut the hell up. Damned if they do and damned if they don't, poor souls!

Hope you all are having a more settled time than me, and getting to enjoy the good weather (another bugbear - I am on nightshift, so haven't even seen or felt this sunshine that people are speaking of!!)

Right, 18 hours of work left, then free... I can do it!!!

SirCharles · 27/03/2012 06:39

My bump has dropped over the weekend. Most odd. Even DH noticed. I know hve lots more space between my rib cage & top of the bump!
Neither of us are particularly over joyed by the lack of sleep already tho. I am awake byarpund 530am & cannot get back to sleep. DH says I wake him most nights arpund3am and then at 4am & then at 5am.... How I do that without waking multiple I don't know!! Seems cruel & unjust tho that at a time when I should be banking sleep ahead of B arriving I am robbed of it. B is very active at night tho. Unless some of the weirdness is actually BH....
I take my hats off to all of you still working - much greater women than me!
On a different note I met up with 3 heads of department from the South African part of my employer & they seem keen to take me on if I am looking for employment out here after mat leave. It is nice to be wanted! No idea what the future brings tho. It is difficult to plan ahead with DH a contractor. How do other people manage?

katykuns · 27/03/2012 12:18

Angelyaz - I know exactly how you feel. I am holding angry grudges over people when do virtually nothing. At the moment my particular grudge is against my stupid printer. My partner just looked at me with sheer confusion... as this monster erupted and began swearing and bashing the printer when it refused to print in black. I then sulked for a good hour about it lol... this is not me, I have been possessed!
Oh, and I am also doing nightshifts, although have taken the last 3 off because of not feeling well. Working tonight though :( 8 more shifts to go... if I knock off the extra week I want... but they are 12 hours long! so it just feels like a death sentence (yes, have also become far more dramatic since the hormones kicked in too :P)

SirCharles, when I went to my appt on Wednesday, she said the baby was facing down and clearly getting 'prepared'. I was a bit excited, and it did explain why the crushing feeling on my bladder has increased lol.

Last couple of years we have worked around each other to look after my first daughter (now 5). With me working nights, that has been made a lot easier to juggle, but its not great - sometimes we feel like we barely see each other. Anyways, his job pays awfully and he hates it... so he is quitting when baby arrives, and I am going to support us with my work ... and he will be a stay at home Dad :)
I am not great being stuck at home really, sink into depression, definitely one of those people that needs to work! We will see how he gets on.

Wommer · 27/03/2012 20:25

katy my dh is going to be sahd too - I go back to work in November and he stops. Gotta be that way financially and he will do a bit at home too - he's started restoring furniture Smile
Also he's pretty handy - learnt how to plaster recently in order to get rid of the artex in our new house, so we figure even if there's no actual money coming in, then any money saved/value added to house is sort of money earned....
He's also WAY more domesticated than me and the far superior cook, cleaner and laundryist so that's all good too!

Had my 32 week scan today - there was an anomaly on the kidney at 20 weeks, and apparently with 8 weeks of growing left to do my baby is already 5lb 2 ....HmmBlush (that's not blushing - that's a pain face!!) and the biparietal (sp?) measure was off the scale! So I have a giant baby with a huge head to birth.... Awesome. Nervous Lol...
On the up side mine is also head down so that's good at least Smile

Totally getting the emotionalness by the way - was reduced to tears in a station today by a total 4sshole station man.. Ladies was out of order and the sign said to use the disabled which was shut. I asked him to get someone to unlock it for me, but he wouldn't even look up and told me that couldnt i see he was busy (writing some form) and to go and find someone down on the platforms (2 flights of stairs away which I'd just come up) to unlock it.... Am ashamed to say I didn't stand my ground or stand up for myself at all... Just quietly left and then totally freaked out dh who was waiting outside by bursting into tears! (he wasn't very happy and went inside, shouted a little bit about what he thought of people who are nasty to 32 week pg women and then left - practically got a round of applause from the queue of mummy types I think Grin)... my hero!

Hope everyone's having a good evening. Sorry for the mammoth post!!
Xxx

karatekimmi · 28/03/2012 07:34

Glad to hear all your babies are getting ready! Mine decided to turn itself around on Sunday and is currently breech :( I know it's likely to turn itself around, but just looking at worse case senario and seeing my water birth going out the window! 2 weeks of intense crawling, yoga, birthing ball, frozen peas on top, heat at the bottom, headphones in knickers to tempt baby down (?!?) it'll be a fun couple of weeks!

Wommer · 28/03/2012 10:22

katy have heard of the other ones but have never heard of the headphones in knickers... Is that a fact?!
Do you have to make sure it's the right kind of music or it might have the opposite effect I wonder? Smile

You've got loads of time yet for it to move round - the sonographer at mine did warn me that even though it's head down right now there's plenty of time and room for it to change in the next 7.5 or so weeks.

How long has everyone got left at work/ who is already done?
I've got 5.5 weeks left, which means I leave when i'm 37+5.

Just managed to excel myself on the pregbrain front... Am going in late to work as had a dentists app, except when I got to the dentists I didn't have an app at all. Never actually booked one 6 months ago but still put it in my diary and phone as being today... Geeeeeenius.... Think dh is still laughing!

Am going to tell work that I've got a follow up appointment when my newly actually booked one is, as can't face the embarrassment of telling the truth!!

Have a good one all Grin
