Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well MrsMiggins, I'm wondering if there's something in the water as I feel terrible today too.

Had a crazy dizzy spell just after I put DD down for her nap, and I was terrified I was going to black out in the kitchen. DH wasn't very sympathetic - he kept banging on about DS having forgotten his trumpet and that I needed to get it round to the school. Er, no, not when I can't walk in a straight line to the sofa.

Even now I feel rotten. Going to curl up in bed with my Kindle and forget today ever happened methinks.

sc0ttishlass I had a scan on Friday at around 10 weeks when I was in being treated for Hyperemesis. Since then I've told people, as I sort of figure, "why not?" not telling people is just one more thing to get caught up in knots about and trust me, no one but us pregnant ladies stress over each day.

What I mean by that is: if you're happy to tell people now and if they are the people you'd tell anyway if you miscarried then go ahead.

If you don't want the whole world and its wife to know yet, then don't say anything.

Really the difference between 12-14 weeks isn't huge and it ain't over till the fat lady sings (when the baby is born).

Sorry if that seems a bit simplistic, but it's just my take on things.

mrs miggins - our scan is the same day :)

Needles - thanks, I think ill tell people at 12 weeks even though scan isnt for anohter 2 weeks (i have seen the private scan and all was well then)... its just so hard to keep secret.

I jsut wasnt sure exactly whether the end of first trimester was 12 or 14, as I thougth I read 14, but know that 12 seems the common time to tell!

you are right - its just another little thing to stress over - so I shouldnt :)

thanks and hope everyone feeling ok this evening ;)

xx

Dorita75 · 24/01/2012 20:40

I agree hamandcheese I did see doc at the very start who gave me food info and copy of Emma's diary, but that was it. Bit concerned as she said I may see a consultant at first mw appointment because I take a steroid inhalor twice a day...that appointment is tomorrow (I'll be 8+3) but she didn't seem concerned that I'm taking it for the first 8+ weeks when the most important baby bits are developing...

It's so exciting reading about all the fab scans!! Grin Making me feel loads better about my lack of symptoms too! Congrats to everyone who's reached that first milestone already!

geekette · 24/01/2012 21:30

Ugh, the cramps are back. with a vengeance. GP says all is fine for now but I am in too much pain to get back to work. Can't wait for the 4th/5th month when everything seems to get into a routine.

glad at all the great scans!

Thinking of you Blackcats

Lottie83 · 24/01/2012 21:45

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently 9 and a half weeks. Looking forward to midwife appointment on Friday as then I can hopefully get a scan date.

All very unreal at the moment. Half scared and half excited.

Constantly eating and sleeping lots but not been sick, so not all bad

hamncheese · 25/01/2012 08:01

scottishlass, I'm with needles on this too. I told my immediate family pretty much right away because I couldn't manage myself with the MS haha. Then told the in-laws the same day in the name of fairness but in the knowledge telling his mum and dad would mean nothing would be kept on the down low. By the time we had got home DH had got multiple texts of congratulations from cousins etc which I found a bit ridiculous. Anyway it was fine because I figured if anything did go wrong I would want the people I had told to know for support. Only other thing to consider is the family floodgate effect and these things rarely are kept to those you tell yourself. Despite that I demanded that nothing be put on facebook or anything nutty like that and it hasn't which is good.

Hope everyone has a good day today (unlike yesterday blegh)

Lovemarmite · 25/01/2012 09:26

Good morning - hope everyone is feeling good/better today

Definitely agree that maybe there was something in the water yesterday, I managed to put in a whole day's work and then around 5pm I had a huge headache, felt really tired and had to sit on the sofa and couldn't do anything for dinner! Poor DH who was on a meeting with the US from 5-9pm had to try and scrabble dinner together whilst on webex whilst I was being pathetic. I also sobbed in the One Show when they showed a couple of newly borns - hmmm, an emotional mess!

Only told my sister and a friend so far and will tell both sets of parents in a few weeks after scans and when we have the results. My MIL has said some crazy things in the past and so I need to be well prepared if there's any possible problems and my mother will tell the whole world and then will call me up every day and ask about everything and repeat it from one day to the next. I might be sounding unfair, but I find my mother a little overbearing at times - love her dearly but she likes to tell me what's what a lot...

PoppyS34 · 25/01/2012 09:27

Morning everyone, how everyone is feeling ok today? blackcats, how are you?

A quick question - what should I be telling the midwife? When I'm ill I generally just get on with things regardless, am I meant to let the mw know now, or do I just tell her if it's something weird/unusual?

Also, any tips for clearing up a cold without medication?

Thanks :)
(12+4)

Lovemarmite · 25/01/2012 09:38

Hi Poppy
Are you telling your mw about having a cold? I think you can ask the mw about anything if you're concerned about it. I was really breathless last week and she told me to call the maternity triage and was glad that I called - I think she would want to know if you need some advice - hope yours would do too.

With clearing a cold naturally, I think the best things I've found are steam inhalations, vitamin C, rest and if a sore throat, hot water with honey and lemon as well as a few salt gargles and a bit more water or watered down juice to keep fluids up to flush things through. Comfort food like soups might help too.
Hope it clear up asap x

Angel786 · 25/01/2012 09:48

Hi all,

I told people I wags after 12 weeks last time. This time I told fam pretty much straight away as they'd have noticed the lack of drinking over Xmas.

poppy I didn't bother telling gp / mw about coughs and colds but did check with pharmacist what I could take. Paracetamol and strepsils (not too many) were ok. Hope you feel better soon!

glittershoes · 25/01/2012 10:36

Morning, I am feeling lots better and more positive today after a bad yesterday. I just felt sluggish but, even worse, really down. I was the tragic woman who had a little cry at work (under my desk....) as it was just all too much!

So wonderful hearing all the great scan news! I cannot wait for mine, 12 days to go!

Hope everything is ok Blackcats, sounds positive x

I was told by my Doctor when I first went to him (day after the positive test) to take Folic Acid and Vitamin D. He said that Vitamin D had been proved to be 'helpful' to both mother and baby and usually contributed to an easier pregnancy and birth. I didn't get a prescription however but I bought these: www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=826&prodid=886&cid=163&sid=0 and take one a day. I think Vit D can't be overdosed on and is stored in the body. At least that was what I was told (I know nothing of medical things!).

I have just received a text updating me on my baby's progress (from an app), apparently he is busy opening and closing his fists today as well as growing toothbuds. Busy day!

glittershoes · 25/01/2012 10:36

Oops, that link didn't work, trying again!

blackcatsdancing · 25/01/2012 11:36

Hi all,
thanks for all the lovely messages, seems a few people ended up having a rough day. The bleeding has stopped. I'm hoping it never comes back as it was very scary. Apparently if the bleed was caused by placenta implanting you can sometimes see that on the follow up scan so i will mention it tomorrow before the sonographer starts. Obviously am now paranoid in case something is amiss but chances are it was cervical irritation following sex, no point catastrophising .

well feeling slightly subdued so will post again tomorrow with hopefully some good news! Good luck to anyone having scan today or tomorrow!

Dorita75 · 25/01/2012 13:13

Hi all - had 1st mw appointment today, nothing much to report is there! Scan date is 20th Feb when I'll be 12+1. Can't wait that long to check there's something there so going to book a private one for next week hopefully.

I probably going to tell more people after that if all's okay. My boss and our families know and I'm telling 2 friends at wkend as I'm out with them for special champagne afternoon tea, can't hide not drinking there!

Hope yesterday's rough day means today is nice for everyone Smile

hamncheese · 25/01/2012 14:00

TUNA SANDWICHES Grin

i feel better today, trying to spread the good vibes to all of you!

Vinolover · 25/01/2012 14:20

Good luck for tomorrow blackcats. What hospital are you having your scan at? I'm sure it would have been from having sex which is why my DH is on a ban! It just isn't worth having the fright.

hamncheese I am obsessed with tuna in toasted pitta bread! Bloody yum :).
I'm actually getting slightly concerned about my sweet tooth! Every time I go into a shop I buy something sweet and chewy! My poor teeth!!

Lovemarmite · 25/01/2012 15:14

Sweet tooth - yeap, have started to curb it now and am trying hard to choose fruit. But really loving a Charbonnel and walker hot chocolate with soya milk for a treat at 11am
My wisdom tooth has started to play up and so I have bad toothache which is making me fancy sweet things less - a blessing perhaps?!

Hope your scan goes well blackcats!

Angel786 · 25/01/2012 15:21

Had a massive sweet tooth last time, ate a bowl of ice cream a day Grin plus chocolates. Not so much this time have craved more salty food like mcdonalds Hmm

OP posts:
hamncheese · 25/01/2012 15:26

Vinolover... it's not fair to be craving something when you're not meant to eat in non-stop! grr!

my sweet teeth have fallen out, on the salty/savoury train too

PoppyS34 · 25/01/2012 16:03

thanks for the colds/mw advice.. :) will pop to boots for some strepsils tonight

glitter - pleased to read you are feeling better today, hope it contines! and blackcats - very glad the bleeding has stopped, fingers crossed it stays that way - what time is scan tomorrow?

blackcatsdancing · 25/01/2012 16:18

scan is mid afternoon . Sadly started spotting again this afternoon, far less than yesterday so far. Clinging to all those 'it happened to me and DC is now crawling around' type stories.

hamncheese · 25/01/2012 16:20

thinking of you blackcats. stay positive x

sc0ttishlass · 25/01/2012 16:27

thinking of you too, blackcats.. sending good vibes.

thanks everyone for all your feedback - i think im just annoyed scan isnt till 14 weeks - and really want to wait to tell people till after that - but yet could tell them at 12! ah well, ill just stop stressing about it and go with the flow.

have a question - is everyone drinking lots of water? im concerned that im not - and my urine deffo darker (TMI!) - i am trying but I just dont feel like it - I certainly dont think I am drinking the 2 litres a day - are you guys all feeling like you really want to drink loads??? (I'm certainly eating loads - cant stop - and mostly carby type stuff - must stop!)

xx
