Hope your scans went well today to those who have had them :) Only 10 more sleeps until mine :)

Lovemarmite I went to that baby bond early on in my pregnancy for a viability scan. It's really lovely there and both ladies are lovely! You have a screen at the end of the bed so you don't get a crock neck trying to look at the scanning screen! I want to go back there for the sexing scan but they do it in Brighton and it seems unnecessary going all that way again. I do feel more comfortable going back there though. We'll see.

Westcountrywife · 23/01/2012 19:18

Yeay Mr Miggins! Loving the Creme egg treat for good behaviour!

Well, we had the scan. Saw baby so I'm definitely not imaging it. Got to see arms and legs moving and it's little face in profile... Saw a little flutter, which was the heartbeat, so sweet. We watched in awe as every time she pushed the ultrasound hard on my belly it jumped. Think I'm falling in love with bump.... Grin Definitely called bump now after watching it.

The photo is a bit poo. We can see what it is as we saw it moving around but frankly I don't think anyone else would be able to tell.

Due date is now adjusted to 7th August, which is getting closer and closer to our 1st anniversary!

We had the nuchal test and we'll be told by phone in 2 days if high chance, or within a week by letter if a low chance.

Oh and any lady gardeners (he he he) out there need to prune the top as your pants get pulled down quite low at the front. Wink

Lovemarmite · 23/01/2012 20:16

Thanks vinolover for letting me know baby bond were good. Really helps by putting my mind to rest.

Quite amazed my mw mucked up my dates but eastbourne hospital were great. I think my mw is just v busy and mistakes are made.

Lovely to hear about your scan westcountrywife - fab! :)

Angel786 · 23/01/2012 20:43

Good scan results here too :) pleased to read abouts yours too westcountrywife

Baby all present and correct - arms, legs, head, heartbeat :o was having a bit of a stretch about, but posed for the cameras.

Due date has also been adjusted to 4th Aug, and I'm also waiting for NT results.

Phew! Feel very lucky to have gone through the first 12 weeks without too many major symptoms. Amazing to see though, just got to try and think about the baby a bit more now - as in actually start believing there is going to be one Blush.

lovemarmite pleased you got a scan booked, but sad your mw mucked up dates!

Loupee · 23/01/2012 21:11

Hey all
Well had the scan today, and there is a baby there, so I've not been imagining it!
We've got a little trouble maker already tho, baby was doing headstands and all sorts so they couldn't do the nuchal test, going back on Friday for another peek.
Everything they could see looks good so far, saw the heart beating and got a wee wave, was amazing to see!
They've measured me at 13+2 which puts my EDD at 28th July now, please don't make me leave this group!
My mind has been put at ease, hope that means I get a better sleep tonight :)

blackcatsdancing · 23/01/2012 21:18

scan question- hospital letter says there's no prep needed for this scan . I'm assuming that means i don't have to drink loads of clear fluid before. Am I right?

blackcatsdancing · 23/01/2012 21:18

p.s lovely news on those who had scans today! I can't wait for thursday afternoon!

PoppyS34 · 23/01/2012 21:30

blackcatsdancing my letter said to start drinking 500ml of non-fizzy fluid 45 mins before my appointment - then the sonographer complained my bladder was too full!

Glad to hear your scan went well too Loupee, I'm 12+2 so you're a week ahead of me. :)

PoppyS34 · 23/01/2012 21:37

wow, that was quick! :o thank you x

Lovemarmite · 23/01/2012 21:46

Hi blackcatsdancing I can let you know what the baby bond email says:

Important Information:
Need to expose abdomen so ideally wear 2 piece garments i.e trousers or skirt and top.
Drink 0.5 Ltr (1 pint) clear fluid approx 1 hour before appointment time.
Please do not empty your bladder before the examination.
Please bring your maternity notes with you.

Hope this helps.

Great to hear about all the scans!

Westcountrywife · 23/01/2012 21:56

Yeay great to hear all todays scans have gone well! Bladder wise I was told 'comfortable'. Midwife explained that as 'drink a cuppa an hour before'. They really push hard so don't go with a full bladder as it'll really hurt!

Angel786 · 23/01/2012 22:11

Great news loupe and poppy

black cats I was also told to drink water before - helps get a better view of baby then half way through had to empty bladder for internal scans.

OP posts:
miaboo · 24/01/2012 07:42

I have my scan at 4 today and I am so nervous, alot more than with my last 2 and have no idea why!
I really want to get excited but keep holding back! I feel rough, have a good size bump already (had to confess to relatives the other day as you could see it!) and am so tired, good signs I'm hoping :)

MrsLister · 24/01/2012 08:40

Very reassuring to read about the successful scans. :-)

I'm having a bit of a panic because it's about this time my MMC was discovered last July. I'm also worried that my symptoms seem to be easing off (and I've hardly really had any other than very sore boobs).

Anybody else notice this around the 9 week mark?

Appreciate this is a daft question given we're all experiencing different pregnancies!

hamncheese · 24/01/2012 08:48

Such nice news on here from yesterday loads of happy scans :) congratulations to all!!

Just bringing this back to the fore after watching breakfast this morning: Vitamin D...

So has anyone's doctor or midwife recommended taking a vitamin D supplement? The news doctor was all like pregnant women are to take at least 400 parts (parts??? wft?) a day supplement. Has anyone got this on prescription for free?

And now for a related rant:

I'm 13 weeks tomorrow. I have had NO CONTACT with any health care professional re: my FIRST pregnancy. My booking is on Thursday. 1/3 of my pregnancy is gone, and no-one has advised me on vitamin D or anything else that potentially affects the health of my baby. I get they don't want to take loads of appointments before 12 weeks for sad reasons but it's so cynical to assume that people will just get by til then, only later to be told stuff like, yeah you're meant to have been taking this and doing this and not doing that. Oh good, I'm already a bad mother through no fault of my own, just because I happened to conceive near to Christmas. RAGE.

hamncheese · 24/01/2012 08:51

MrsLister... my symptoms eased at 10 weeks for a week to the point I felt amazing then came back but not that bad for this last week. But I don't know for sure how far along I am yet! I think quite a lot of people posted about an easing of symptoms around that time :)

PoppyS34 · 24/01/2012 09:18

Good luck miaboo, hope it goes well. Let us know how you get on.

MrsLister my symptoms eased off around week 9/10, when I say eased off I mean I just felt normal, as I have had such light symptoms anyway - you can read my post from last weekend, where I actually thought something had gone wrong because I felt so fine - very relieved to see LO on the scan yesterday. I think the first thing i said was - wow, it's still there! Blush.

hamandcheese that's rubbish, they really do leave you out to dry don't they? There's so many questions and advice, yet no one to talk to for (what seems like) ages...

Lovemarmite · 24/01/2012 09:22

Hi MrsLister - yes at 9 weeks my sickness really eased off and my boobs felt fine, felt tired though and taste in foods were still not usual but apart from that I felt fine and then I started to worry that I felt too okay for 9 weeks! My mw says it's usual (I saw her at 9 weeks) as things may start to settle down then for some people. I'm 11 weeks today and only am getting the occasional sick feeling but my DH commented that I have a bump last night... which was good but I was quite conscious of all the naughty food I've eaten and so I was wondering if it was that!

hamncheese - hmm the vitamin D saga! A couple of weeks ago I asked my doctor for some on prescription and I got a call from the receptionist asking why I wanted them. I explained I was pregnant and should be taking them but then I found out that you can buy them quite cheaply from boots and they're in pregnacare. It seems that they are not available on prescription - or so I was led to believe. There is a vitamin D3 which is not pregnancy strength but for oestoporosis etc and so when looking, it's best to get advice and get pregnancy strength ones. My vitamin tablets from G&G (cost a fortune but has vitamin D as a capsule) and so I am managing to take them but I will buy pregnacare once I've finished as they're cheaper although still costly.
Totally agree with your rant - my NHS pregnancy books says you should be seen for a booking appointment between 8-12 weeks. Can you call the mw office/your GP reception to get their number - they should see you asap!

Lovemarmite · 24/01/2012 09:23

Hope it goes well Miaboo!

PoppyS34 · 24/01/2012 09:28

I forgot to say, the comments have started...

only a very few people know atm, and I've been ill since Friday with a stomach bug, i've lost a few lbs in weight as I've only been eating toast and apples (weird I kow), anyway i told someone I'd lost weight and they said - oh don't worry, you'll put it back on quickly, and loads more too... :o humph!

(or am I being over sensitive?) Blush

blackcatsdancing · 24/01/2012 09:31

hamncheese i share your rant. I think its a long time to go without getting advice. I saw my GP initially (receptionist said i should see her first before MW) and she did print me out a surgery leaflet on early pregnancy- foods to avoid, importance of folic acid, avoid alcohol etc which was useful- though it didn't mention vitamin D. I think the vit D advice is pretty new or they are currently trying to raise awareness . At my booking the MW asked if i was taking Vit D- i was taken aback but said yes as its in my pregnacare original tablets. The other MW at my pre-booking asked about folic acid but not vit D. I wouldn't worry at all about not having taken Vit D up to now. Most likely you are getting enough if you get out of the house and have a varied healthy diet and you have plenty of time to raise your levels of the vitamin over the coming months.
You're not a bad mum! I conceived my first over christmas and did worry about the damage i'd caused by getting rather merry on a few occasions. She is fine, and aged 19 (years) no health problems have shown themselves yet!

I phoned hospital to double check water /scan thing. No need to drink anything this time, must be different equipment . And £5 gets me 2 photos of baby. Just hope the profits go somewhere useful like intensive care baby unit !

Symptoms- i've felt far less nauseous past 4 days now! and consequently am feeling bit more me and less crabby.

11+1

MrsLister · 24/01/2012 09:47

Thanks for your reassurances ladies. I've told myself I will be positive this pregnancy (I wasn't last pregnancy - really felt something was going to go wrong) so am refusing to book in for an early scan.

Still haven't heard from my midwife yet though - must call and chase my booking in appointment...
