Hi
glad to hear all is well Jems. How are you Quacks? I've been away with work so not able to come and see you all. I'm ok - just tired and with the feeling of a constant bad hangover (bloated, nauseous, diarrhoea, headache) normal pregnancy stuff! Have told a couple of people at work through necessity but still secret from family until Christmas Day! Eating for England, Scotland and Wales. Hope that Ireland will join in next week. Will keep in touch xx

M2T · 09/12/2003 14:02

Helsbels - Quacks is away for her scan to check whether she has miscarried again or not.
Hopefully its !!

Helsbels · 09/12/2003 14:10

Fingers crossed M2T. I didn't realise it was today - have just scanned through from last visit.

mears · 09/12/2003 14:33

SpringChicken - out of interest. Did you get given information leaflets about the screening tests? Much better to have info to dicuss with your DP. Strange advice from the midwifer re private test. Info not given like that where I work.

mears · 09/12/2003 14:39

This might be helpful here

mears · 09/12/2003 14:45

Last message - I wonder if this was what your midwife meant by private test. It may include quadruple test mentioned here
this

SpringChicken · 09/12/2003 14:45

M2T - we haven't discussed what we would do should the results come back as being high risk so no thoughts been put into the amnio although i decided a long long time ago that i would never have one done!
My midwife advised that should the tests come back as high risk amnio is not the only option - we have the opportunity to have further scans and tests done along with the option of an amnio.

I thought it was a bit odd too Mears as i did not ask about having the tests done privately - it hadn't even entered my head to consider it really.

Have lots of leaflets given to me by midwife on the triple test, what in means, what is checks for, what different outcomes are etc - so will have a good ol' chat about it all tonight - TBH, i think if i told him i didin't see the need in us having it done he would probably agree - I don't think he understands it all completely - after all there is alot for DP's to take in - especially if they are as clueless as mine

SIL tol me a horrible story this lunch time about her SIL who had the triple test done - it came back high risk - she had the amnio done - the baby died but for some reason which i don't know she had to physically give birth to the baby - once tests were carried out afterwards there was ntohign wrong with the baby at all, No Spina Bifida, No Downs Syndrome etc - what should've been a perfectly healthy baby

M2T · 09/12/2003 14:49

SC - Thats a horrible story, but unfortunately I know someone that this happened to (or similar).

When you get the Amnio you would be approx 14/15 wks?? Mears? So if the baby then died then yes you would have to give birth.

Don't think like that though!! It'll be fine!

Thanks for that Mears, I've just printed it out and am going to have a good read tonight.

mears · 09/12/2003 14:53

Depends when screening test is done. Where I work it is 15 weeks approx. Nuchal scans are not yet done routinely. Amnio may not be done till 18-20 weeks.

SpringChicken · 09/12/2003 14:56

Yes thanks Mears - i have printed out too - the second Link was very good - should explain to my DP exactly why i do not think we need the test carrying out.

It says that only 1 in 60 babies declared as high risk will actually have Downs - that is horrific - think of all the babies that could have been aborted because of misleading advise and figures and things not being explained properly!

Horrible horrible story, i know - this is exactly why i would never ever have an amnio done - and now i'm in a position to say it and mean it!

M2T · 09/12/2003 15:03

Good lass!! You go in there with enough info to bowl him over!

Helsbels · 09/12/2003 15:49

M2T just read the August thread - congratulations - well done

M2T · 09/12/2003 15:54

Thanks Helsbels!
I still might be moving to this thread though... just have to wait and see what the scan says.

SpringChicken · 09/12/2003 16:18

When is your scan M2T?

M2T · 09/12/2003 16:22

No idea SC - Went to the Docs yesterday and all she told me to do was book an appointment with the MW!! I was actually really pissed off, why couldn't I have just booked the MW appointment in the first place?? The Doc didn't even do a pg test to confirm, or take my BP.
Now I have to wait until 29/12 for that. Then presumably I'll have to wait ages for a scan. Bloody NHS. .... oops Hormones.

bundle · 09/12/2003 16:26

m2t I had a quadruple test (picks up higher % of abnormalities) for both pregnancies and I'm glad I did. the 2nd time I had a much higher risk than normal of edwards syndrome, and would have had a termination if it had been positive from the amnio. I agree if you wouldn't opt for ending the pregnancy no matter what the result, then there's no point in going for diagnostic tests. however for people like me, being faced with a potentially fatal condition then it stops you worrying for a whole nine months as opposed to 2 weeks of hell..

M2T · 09/12/2003 16:29

Thanks Bundle. In your case it seems its an invaluable thing.

Helsbels · 09/12/2003 16:30

I had same experience M2T went to nurse (couldn't get in with doctor) she said congratulations see the midwife at no less than 10 weeks bye... no other info, no paperwork no nothing - never mind - I see the midwife (same one as with DS) next Tues so it is moving forward. Also, booked for nuchal scan on 30th Dec at Proscan.

madgirl · 09/12/2003 16:49

Helsbels, could you tell me where proscan is? i know there is one in nottingham but is there one near london/in london?
quackers you will know by now ((())) whatever the outcomexxxxx

Cavy · 09/12/2003 16:50

MY GP is like that, M2T. I do my utmost to avoid her in pregnancy, now.

Excuse me ladies, the June04 thread is so quiet I sometimes peek in here...
I agree the triple test isn't very good, but it's hard to put a statistic on how much you don't want your baby to have certain problems, which can make these tests very important. Where did you get your quadruple test done, Bundle, and how much did it cost?

quackers · 09/12/2003 20:24

Gosh, this thread has been busy since I last looked. Forgive my absence, but I'm back!

It was good news!!!!
Heartbeat and 7 weeks exactly - thrilled!!!
Thanks to all for concern comments and hugs etc.... Much appreciated!!!!!!!!

So loads going on here then. Will catch up tommorow as a few calls to make to waiting sis etc.. Love for now. xxx Keep well!

littlerach · 10/12/2003 08:10
