damn damn damn
dp got to go away with work next week so have to rearrange scan at short notice

quackers · 03/12/2003 13:31

Bummer freddiecat, any chance they can bring it forward for you?? You're quite far gone already so I'm sure they could if they can slot you in?

M2T · 03/12/2003 13:33

Don't know about you, but I wouldn't be able to wait!!! I'd have to along without him.

SpringChicken · 03/12/2003 14:37

Oh No Freddie - what a pain in the arse!
Can DP get out of it at all?

Freddiecat · 04/12/2003 12:27

Have managed to rearrange scan for a week later. My midwife team won't be there but they'll sort out a follow-up appointment for me at 14 weeks so that's OK.

I did contemplate going without DP but a) I want him there as I want him to share seeing the baby for the first time and b) if anything is wrong I REALLY want him there and don't want to have to wait 2 more days until he gets back to cry on his shoulder.

Have just eaten half a jar of pickeld beetroot. Love being pregnant - can give in to odd food desires and call them "cravings"

quackers · 04/12/2003 17:55

Fredie cat, you'll be there together that's the main thing.

Jems, how did you go on today??? Have checked a couple of times today and no news. Hope all went well. love Q xxxx

quackers · 04/12/2003 18:00

Freddiecat, I didn't finish my message to you! Sorry.

I meant to say, I think it's great they hasve re-arranged. Then you'll be with the midwives you know at 14 weeks. Will that be your main booking in??

quackers · 05/12/2003 09:00

Not looking good. Had some spotting this am. Symptoms less and am on a downer now. No EPU here and GP away. Looks like I'm stuck with it until Tuesday.
Jems, how are you?

niknik · 05/12/2003 09:12

Oh Quackers I hope everything will be OK, fingers and toes crossed for you.

Jems hope everything is OK with you as well

twiglett · 05/12/2003 09:15

message withdrawn

quackers · 05/12/2003 09:21

Thank you , I know it could be that I suppose. I know sympyoms change all the time too but this is torture. I ate some curry last night and have only been able to manage soup or butties this week. I sort of wish I'd gone to work, at least the day would go quickly. No pooint going for a scan till Tuesday as I think it could be borderline seeing a heartbeat anyway at 6.3 wks? Would only make it worse.
Thinking of you all.

SpringChicken · 05/12/2003 09:22

Oh Quacks - I am sorry - know its easier said than done but try and stay positive.
Am i right that you had some early spotting with DD too?

Everything went fine yesterday - sonogropher thinks i am only 8 weeks but i know there is no way that's possible - have recorded all dates for the last 10 mmonths so i'm sure i'm right.
Anyway, couldn't see much as it;s so early - could see there was definitely something there with a big heartbeat - i just couldn't stop smiling.

Consultant has disregarded all problems i was referred to him for - said that as long as nothing comes direct from me of DP then he doesn't think its a worry - glad we went though so now we know!

Have got another scan booked for 8th Jan - will be 13 weeks then and will hopefully see a lot more then - am just so overwhelmed now i know there is definitely a baby there and they have a heart beat!

Big Relieve

quackers · 05/12/2003 09:28

Oh that's such good news Jems. I'm really pleased for you. What a relief too about DP's history. That's strange about the dates. Could you have maybe had an imp bleed and think it was AF? Ah well, you have a beating heart and a baby. Lots of luck for the rest of your pgcy chuck.xxx Take carexxxx

BTW I did spot with DD, but when AF was due.

madgirl · 05/12/2003 09:49

quackers, will be thinking of you all day, i promise. I am not too busy at work today if you want to chat via email another talker. if not i'll check in over w/end. really really hoping you're ok. remember, i spotted for 9 days on and off and still hanging in there. mgxx

M2T · 05/12/2003 10:17

Fantastic news Jems!!!

As for the dating scan.... well thats what happened with me too and it seems they were right. I thought I was 12 or 13 wks gon, but my scan showed 11wk+1. I was gutted!! Silly, I know. So you think you are 9wks? Is that right Jems?

Quacks - I thought you were further on than 6wks! Just shows me how time drrrraaggs when I'm pg! I know you will be incredibly worried, but really there is a good chance everything will be fine.

littlerach · 05/12/2003 10:32

Why will you have another scan, Jem?
Quackers, I hope everything is ok for you.
My yucky cold is finally easing, but now I am feeling a little sick, possibly ms not sure. With dd I rarely felt sick, but did go off certain foods. Does anyone know which nuts you're not supposed to ear, and how much coffe you're allowed? I seem to have forgotten everything from the first time round!!

M2T · 05/12/2003 10:36

Littlerach - Definitely avoid Peanuts.... dunno what others though.

As for the caffeine thing. I think you are allowed a couple of cups a day in the 1st trimester. After that I don't think you have to be too cautious. Last time I felt too sick for the 1st 3 months to drink coffee... then for the next 6mths I had heartburn!!! So that took care of the caffeine problem!

SpringChicken · 05/12/2003 10:57

I think i am 9.3 but sonographer said i was more likely 8 weeks. I'm not bothered either way but i definitely know when my last cycle was asi have been keeping a record for ages.

I am having another scan as litterally all we could see was a little blob and a heart beat flickering - sonographer and consultant both agreed to scan again at 13 weeks to give a firm date and get mesurements etc.

CountessDracula · 05/12/2003 17:22

Quacks, hope everything is ok, thinking of you xx

Jems glad scan was ok.

SpringChicken · 09/12/2003 12:12

Well 10 weeks today

Everything just seems to be flying past - nearly at 3 months already!

Just returned from midwife - had routine bloods taken - didn't realise this was going to be done today so was a bit surprised when she produced a bloody needle!
Just have to wait and hear if there is anything wrong now.....

Talked to midwife today about triple test - we are definitely having it done but Midwife told me that the NHS Test is only between 60% & 80% accurate whereas the private tests are between 80-95% accurate!

Have spoken to DP and he thinks we should just have the NHS one done - due to our age and no family history of these things we are likely to be very low risk anyway.

Don't know about anyone else but before you are pregnant you imagine all the lovely things but there are so many downfalls and worries that i had never ever thought about before - anyway, no use worrying - will find out soon enough - got to book the test for 6 weeks time so we'll soon know!

Hope everything goes OK for you today Quack's - have my fingers firmly crossed for you & your DP.
x

M2T · 09/12/2003 12:23

SpringChicken - Just for your info.... I was talked out of the triple test for the following reasons:

  1. It is not accurate
  2. The results only put you in a risk category
  3. The results can be effected by you being even a few days out with your dates
  4. If you do get a low risk result you can be lulled into an false sense of security that all is well...
  5. Vice versa, if you get a High risk result you can get really stressed, worried and upset for no reason!

I would love to know what the reasoning is behind this test and also I would like to hear of someone who had the test and thought they really benefited from it. Not denying it's benefit... I just haven't seen it for myself so I'm curious.

Springchicken - You are so young and healthy. Why bother???

SpringChicken · 09/12/2003 12:27

My thoughts exactly M2T but i hadn't even finished explaining to DP what the tests involved when he had already made up his mind he wanted it doing!

I will talk to him about it but it's not really fair for me to say no if he desperately wants it done.

M2T · 09/12/2003 12:32

Acutally Springchicken - I may be overstepping the mark, but no it is not Unfair! Its your body and it'll be you that would have to make the decision to have an amnioscentisis and it would be YOU that would have to go through everything if the worst came to the worst (which is HUGELY unlikely!!).

It is you decision. Why does your DP want it so much?? What if the result is high risk?????

SpringChicken · 09/12/2003 12:56

You aren't over stepping the mark M2T - i appreciate what you are saying but at the end of the day it is just as much his baby as it is mine!

Fair enough it is in my body but that doesn't give me a superior rating - it should be equal decision making.

I am going to talk to him about it tonight as i do not think (given our circumstances) it is necessary - i don't think he will have a problem or necessarily disagree with what i am saying - i just don't think he fully understands it.

He is probably just taking it that every person will ahve the same risk and therefore it would be best that know - i will sit down tonight with the information the midwife gave me and explain absolutely everything to him!

Thanks for your thoughts M2T

M2T · 09/12/2003 13:10

Springchicken - It's really about what you would do if the result was high risk. If the answer is nothing.... then there really is no point in putting yourselves through it all.

I hope you can talk some sense into him.

Also, would he be so keen if it was him who would have to have a 6" needle rammed into his abdomen??? Doubt it! Perhaps you should ask that!
