The first midwives appointment or 'booking appointment' consists largely of the midwife taking your history (ie asking about your health generally), running you through how your care will be handled during your pregnancy and taking your blood pressure and blood tests too. It takes about an hour first time around.
How exciting - good luck, hope all goes well

Jemma7 · 13/11/2003 15:30

Thanks LucieB!

I know they aren't going to tell me anything overly exciting or let me know that my baby is well but i am just soooooo excited!

My friends and family are going to want to kill before the next 7 and a bit months are over! Nevermind!

Bit a bit empty here today - wonder where everyone is? ? ?

Hello not been on for ages, had booking appointment yesterday and officially have a due daate of 1st July! Scan booked for 9th December.

Jemma7 I have a stinking cold as well and now think that my nausea this week was caused by the cold not the pregnancy - phew!

niknik · 14/11/2003 13:38

Hi everyone

Jems I've just been to my booking appointment, took about an hour, they needed to know all about your medical history and also if their where any conditions in either your or DP's family (ie diabetes etc). They couldn't get my blood (as I have crap veins) but fortunately I work at the hospital and know a man that can. Also I came out with armfuls of litrature.

She has confirmed a due date of 4th July, and I should be having my first scan in around 4-5 weeks.

Take care all

Jemma7 · 14/11/2003 13:45

Do you have to wait for a letter from the hospital to let u know when your scan will be or does your midwife arrange it there and then?

My DP has family history with diabetes and generic heart disease - will i ahve to have extra tests?

I'm so excited - roll on Tuesday!

hi jemma with ds i got a letter from the hospital shortly after my booking in appt with the midwife. maybe it depends on which nhs trust you're with.

Jemma7 · 14/11/2003 15:20

Just realised how many questions i ask! Thanks Madgirl

Need to save up all my questions and ask midwife on Tuesday

Helsbels · 15/11/2003 16:14

Hi all - hope everyone is okay! Still feel constantly sick but apart from that everything is good. Eygpt, have looked up proscan website - it looks excellent - there are little movies on there of actual scans - they look fab compared to NHS ones that I had. Have spoken to DH and think we will go for it with me being a bit of a croc!! Jems - hope everyting is fine with you, my little protegee.Write down everything you want to ask the midwife or you'll come out thinking 'bugger - I should have asked that'Off work for a week now but will log on when I can

Jemma7 · 17/11/2003 12:42

Morning everyone!

I just cannot get over this overwhelming excitment! I don't think i've stopped smiling for the last 10days even though i've had a horrendous headache!

Going to mention it to my midwife as a few people have mentioned high blood pressure!

Going Xmas shopping on saturday - i so need to get my arse in gear regarding Xmas - have only got 4 people's presents so far - only another 17 or so to go!

My best friend has just offered to look after the baby once i go back to work - will be a great help - obviosuly would prefer to leave buba with someone i know and trust - plus it will only be for 2 days a week as they other 3 days i am going to work from home!

Anyone know what maternity leave is? Is it 29 weeks?

Hows everyone else feeling ?

Quacks, posted on one of the others, but just wanted to say how very very pleased I am for you. I'm probably over emotional being pregs meself, but I must say how absolutely supportive and wonderful your posts have been to me since the dark days of my m/c. I don't post a lot but I really appreciate your replys and Im hoping very hard for you (and all the other 1st trimester mums). And I think in June/July when all these babes come along, you should all come to my house for a knees up.

mollymay · 17/11/2003 13:30

Jemma7 · 17/11/2003 13:43

So nice to have more people here - maybe this thread will liven up a bit now!

Good for you getting an early scan Quacks - is it your first doctors appointment or first midwife appointment? Have got my midwife tomorrow, trying to make a list of all the questions i need to ask!
Going to feel like a right Div walking in there with a list of questions

My Doc is sending me to the Consultant straight away because of history. They know me well there now! Hopefully will be for good reasons this time!!

Egypt · 17/11/2003 21:23

hi all
so pleased for you!
Jems, maternity leave is 26 weeks
Enjoy xxx

quackers · 17/11/2003 22:09

TQ Egypt. LOLxxxx

Jemma7 · 18/11/2003 12:09

Well had my first midwife appointment this morning - was only there for 10 minutes.
She signed the forms i had to fill in for free prescriptions, gave me a pack and a load of leaflets!

She is coming round tomorrow morning to fill in all my paperwork and go through health history etc - apparently in my area they like to do these things in the home!

I thought she would've done all that today but she is the only midwife amy surgery and is only there on Tuesdays so maybe she prefers to do home visits.

Anyway, just had a wave of sickness so ran to get a banana quick - hope this isn't the start of morning sickness - i can not cope with being sick

OP posts:
quackers · 18/11/2003 12:18

Glad you're all signed up then now Jems, starts to feel at bit more real then doesn't it! My m/wife did the same, it's better as there are tons of things to go over, I remember being asked about choice of feeding etc... went into loads of detail, Also about all the tests, scans etc...
I have moved now so my care is by my GP and consultant this time, but I really like having a m/wife. They are so valuable!

Helsbels · 18/11/2003 19:03

Quackers, just logged on!! Congratulations!! And to Molly May, too. Its really exciting whn it becomes real, isn't it? Still waiting to see midwife (10 weeks here) I'm 6 weeks tomorrow. Will log on later in the week to see how many more have joined here

Jemma7 · 19/11/2003 09:44

Well bit dissapointed - Midwaife was due round this morning but rang to say that she was called out to a delivery lasy night and wont be able to make it!

How dare she

Have got to ring her tomorrow to re-schedule - was really looking forward to that.

Getting confused with my weeks - not sure how many weeks i am now - 1st day of last AF was 30th September - how many weeks does that make me now?

OP posts:
Jemma7 · 19/11/2003 09:45

Blimey i know she wasn't the biggest lady in the world but she wasn't a midwaife

OP posts:
M2T · 19/11/2003 09:55

lol Jemma!

Your are 7weeks + 1.... Feeling sick yet? Overly tired??

Jemma7 · 19/11/2003 10:20

Have felt really tired from the start but that seems to be easing off a bit!

Yesterday and today i feel like i am going to throw up any minute - have even been to the loo as i thought i was going to be sick
I hope this goes - i cannot bear being sick, i just crumple on the floor and cry like a baby!

I don't usually eat breakfast but have been trying since i foudn out i was pregnant but it makes me feel sick eating so early in the morning - dry toast has been recommended - Tasty!

Ohhh 7 weeks +1 - only 32 weeks plus 6 to go

OP posts:
M2T · 19/11/2003 10:28

Jemma - I gag at the thought of eating when I first get up, pregnant or not! Don't force yourself to eat anything like that. I found that sucking on boiled sweets helped (Cinnamon Balls. ..MMMMmmmmmmmm!!! ). That way you are producing saliva, feel like you are eating, but don't have that horrible dry sicky feeling when you swallow dry toast YUCK!! I went through bags of them in the first few weeks.

I got really obsessed with how many days pg I was! I used to email all my friends telling how how pg I was in percentages!!! lol

BTW... you are 17.9% pregnant.
