chickpea · 17/02/2004 12:52

bugger

well I think you got the idea isabellaOliver dot com.

SpringChicken · 17/02/2004 13:44

here you go chick

I'm off to refill my wardrobes with Maternity wear on Saturday - going to Northampton to get buggy and then onto Milton Keynes to buy some new clothes

Anyone give me some other idea's on shops that have a maternity range - so far all i can think of is Next or Dorothy Perkins......

chickpea · 17/02/2004 14:02

Thanks chick but couldn't get your link to work either. Have you had a look? what do you think?

SpringChicken · 17/02/2004 14:36

That's what you get for showing off - just having a look now so will let u know.

Just seen a top i like and it's £45, i would normally only just consider spending thsi much on normal clothes let alone clothes i'm only ever going to wear when pregnant!

chickpea · 17/02/2004 14:49

Is it the one wrap around one or the side tie one?

SpringChicken · 17/02/2004 15:09

Well, have had a look now and to be honest i think it is ridiculously priced! Yeah, some of the stuff is nice and i'm sure it's good quality but £55 for a pair of trousers......oh please! !

Give me multipacks from Next any day.

PS - Yeah it was the wrap top i was talking about that i liked.

Quackers · 17/02/2004 15:34

Nice stuff Chickpea, but I'm a bargain basement person too! I begrydged paying £35 for trousers but I do cos I know they fit and look good, I'm another multipack Next customer for maternity! I bought some expensive stuff last time but it's out of fashion now, even though I kept it nice. Must order some stuff today!
Weather gorgeous, been sat out with DD making tea for her teddies while read P and B!!!!
What a life!
Good luck with scan Jems, be thinking of you on Thurs!!
Cjickpea, you';re very clever being able to copy! You should det up in business!

SpringChicken · 17/02/2004 15:44

I sound like such an old woman don't i ..............£55 for a pair of trousers..................think i'm turning into my Mum

It's been drizzling all day here quacks - cannot get motivated at all - cannot wait to get on holiday and just RELAX, RELAX, RELAX!

sweetkitty · 17/02/2004 16:21

hiya just been reading this thread, i payed a visit to the isabella oliver website as well got bf's hen night and another night out coming up and might have to treat myself to the halter wrap around top think i might be able to wear it afterwards as well (hopefully by wrapping it a bit tighter). I've invested in some next multipacks as well. Wasn't too impressed with mothercare or blooming marvellous to be honest. we also have a cache cache, a belgian design company but it was £40 for a T-shirt.

Helsbels · 17/02/2004 16:27

Hi all
just scanned through on what I missed whilst not at work!! Maternity clothes from DPs are ok and quite cheap. Got a couple of bits from Mothercare when pg with DS. This time have bought some trousers and jeans from Hennes. They wash really well and are very comfy. Trouble is that when you are my size there is just no choice! Got my scan next Thurs so fingers crossed. Can't believe I'm 19 weeks already and do not feel at all pg! Pumpkin Patch do mat clothes if you are under a size 14 to start with, they are lovely but a bit expensive

chickpea · 17/02/2004 16:36

Agree with the bargain basement ethos but sort of threw caution to the wind this time. I wanted to treat myself to at least on or two things I really liked.

If anyone can sew - even basic sewing I can send them the pattern with instructions. Springchick - do you have a sewing machine. If not then you should seriously think about getting one. You can pick them up second hand for a pinch. They come in soooo handy.

I am completely non-domestic (my dh stays at home with the kids and I work full time) and I had never sewed a stitch until I got mine about two years ago. I have now made my kids various costumes (bat, angel and cloaks of all shapes and sizes!!) and simple dresses for my dd. I have also had one or two disasters but you do learn from them!!

This is the first attempt I have had at making adult clothes and after one or two botch-ups which I spent ages unpicking I am very pleased with my fab top for a tenner. It really is easy.

Seriously - if anyone is interested in having a go I can send you a copy of the pattern I made with full instructions and tips on fabric!!

Quackers · 17/02/2004 17:10

That's really kind of you Chickpea! Been toying with the idea of a sewing mchine but didn't want to feel like my Nana! I do everything by hand, ie curtains, cushions, but have never really attemptem clothes. While pg with DD I was off work so made a huge tapestry of Winne the pooh. Only thing is I've no time now to make one for the next baby and so will probably get it in the ear at some point later!! Might try and make something simple and quick, so it doesn't feel left out!

chickpea · 17/02/2004 17:29

I would definitely recommend a sewing machine. I don't feel like my Nana more like my mother-in-law. Not sure which is worse :0

I spend a worrying amount of time witn my head stuck in remnant baskets too.

Sewing by hand is so difficult and time consuming. Have you really made curtains by hand?! I wouldn't have the patience.

How are you finding your doppler? Does it give you the reassurance you were after? Now that I get booted or thumped about every couple of hours I feel very relaxed about the pregnancy. How are you bearing up?

chickpea · 17/02/2004 17:30

Link and smily faces just won't work for me today. Try again. :0

chickpea · 17/02/2004 17:30

Bugger - what am I doing wrong? BIG GRIN. that's better.

tomkitty · 17/02/2004 18:22

I've tried sewing clothes but they never turn out well, always look VERY homemade.

But a couple of years ago I made loose covers for my sofa. It took me forever, and they aren't perfect but it made the sofa look brand new.

I like the Isabella Oliver website, chickpea. They look comfortable but I am afraid they will be clingy. How low cut is that wrap top? I am absurdly huge uptop these days.

I found a good website for supportive bras for large cup sizes. www.lessbounce.com I can't believe I am looking for 32F!

Quackers · 17/02/2004 20:18

Hi again Chickpea! I've done curtain linings and alterations by hand but not from scratch! Knitted some very odd things in my time too, Mum is best at doing that for me! I'd love to make things for DD though!
Thanks so much for asking about me though. I am really pleased I have my Doppler. It comes in really handy for moments like yesterday when I thought I hadn't felt anything for a while and I haven't yet put on weight although my bump is onbvious, so I had a listen and all was well. I never use it more than once a week/2 weeks though! BTW, love that Isabella thingy website. I would look terrible in some of that stuff though! I really fancy the below bump a line skirt but can't quite muster up the stamina to pay £45 for it!

Quackers · 17/02/2004 20:19

If I remember correctly you have had missed miscarriage late on too. Hope the kickboxer in your tum has reassured you!

chickpea · 18/02/2004 15:23

Tomkitty - The wrap top is really as low cut as you want it - just wrap to fit! My chest has inflated rather disconcertingly too =- god knows what size I am now. The top itself is quite short but the wrap bits are nearly 2m long and 25cms wide so you can wrap them how you want. I am wearing it for work today (well my copy anyway) and it's decent enough.

Quackers - skirt is lovely but yes expensive. Yes you remember correctly I also had 2mcs last year 12 and 16 wks. Now I am 20+3 so feeling really happy and confident. I, like you really wanted to get a doppler and bid for two on ebay. But they went for £100 and £128 so drew then line at that and spent the money on clothes instead!!! The kicking makes all the difference and I have my 20 week scan on Tuesday. Are you sure it is 'anomoly' scan not 'anatomy' scan??
So glad to hear all is going well for you - I never thought it could possibly happen to me twice and it has taken me a long time to feel relaxed about this one - I'm sure you know what I mean
xx

chickpea · 18/02/2004 15:25

tomkitty - do you want to try the pattern?

Quackers · 18/02/2004 16:10

Yes Chicks I do know what you mean and the movements are now getting stronger for me, now 17 weeks so am much more confident. I'm amazed this has come on so far after the last year of losses. You sound in great form though - I'm pleased! Yes I drew the line at paying more than £100 for the Doppler and will most likely sell it on afterwards, even though DH wants 2 more babies at least! God help me!

bossykate · 18/02/2004 16:20

i have had no discernible movement this week, despite being pretty confident i felt some last week - maybe i will have to get a doppler.

Helsbels · 18/02/2004 16:30

BK I felt movements at about 15 weeks though I didn't recognise them at the time then it all went quiet for a week or so but now I can feel them again. The mw said it was because the baby was low in my pelvis and that was why it is difficult to feel the lighter movements. HTH

SpringChicken · 18/02/2004 16:41

TBH i feel like i haven't felt any movements for ages! I would've though they would be coming thick and fast now being 19+4 but i still only really feel them every so often.
I am sure everything is fine as my tummy has just popped out of no-where and i really look pregnant now but i can't help wondering why i am not feeling stronger more regular movements at this stage.
