Hello everyone

I am 16 weeks + 2 days today.

I had my first mtg with the midwife on Saturday. We heard the baby's heartbeat. I was expecting a weak little sound. It was like banging on a drum at high speed. DH and I started laughing and the midwife lost the beat. I feel like I have a little monster inside me now.

You think that means it's a girl, Spring Chicken? I hope so! DH would be disappointed, although he would try to act like he wasn't.

Quackers · 10/02/2004 21:20

Tomkitty, daddies adore little girls!! I challenge any Daddy not to!!!!!!
Jems, yes it does make w hooshy type noise, very amusing!!
I'm the same too, worry worry when an appointment comes up. Ah well will post tomorrow hopefully with good news!

SpringChicken · 11/02/2004 08:59

Let us know how you get on today Quacks - fingers crossed for you!

SpringChicken · 11/02/2004 09:41

Well just had my first outburst of pregnancy tears!

My dad just had a strong word with me about my tyre going flat - told me i always leave things til the last minute and always put things off rather than just deal with them there and then...........................guess what i done...............................yep, you guessed it....................................burst into tears! ! Terrific

Now sitting at work with great big puffy red eyes - looking like a right wally!
He's apologised now and said he only said it because he cares and doesn't want me to have an accident but i still look like a right tit!

Why do you have to be so bloody forgetful during pregnancy? ? ?

Quackers · 11/02/2004 13:13

Ah, that's a bit harsh honey bunch. I feel like giving you a big cuddle. My Dad;s the same and he makes me cry without being pg, although he's a wonderful Dad and great fun! Hope you;re ok now and got over the red eyes! Poor lamb.

Well I had my scan with the consultant he was fab! Made me feel so looked after. He said as my DD had Intrauterine growth retardation!! awful phrase he wants to scan every 4 weeks. This baby also seems small for dates, coming out at 15.3 while I'm 16.1 and have been on other scans. I was a little concerned but baby is kicking well and has a good heartbeat. He won't let this baby go past term either as DD did, she was distressed quite badly. So if this one doesn;t come before due date they may well C section, not ideal but I have to think what's best I supppose. He's seeing me every time I go so I'm pleased they are looking after me and it's the same one who looked after me after m/c, so I know him a little now.
Anyway, sorry to rant, anomoly scan in 3 weeks and we refused tests so all well otherwise!!!
Hope everyone is ok!!!!

madgirl · 11/02/2004 13:24

hey quacks, glad your scan was ok, what is Intrauterine growth retardation? are you going to find out sex? i have 21 week anomoly scan in 2 weeks and am now ttempted to find out!

Quackers · 11/02/2004 13:57

No I don't want to know MG!! Well it's the first they'd said it to me really, I'm going to search the boards for info as I'm sure there was a thread on this or will start a new one. It just means the baby is small for dates really - I think!

SpringChicken · 11/02/2004 14:06

Glad everything went well Quacks Lucky you only having another 3 weeks to wait until your next one!

I am positive i do not want to know the sex but i am such a nosey person, i hate not knowing something! ! Will have to make sure baba doesn't have legs wide open next week at scan!

Bless my dad, he has the ability to reduce me to tears in a flash, always has been able to - he feels bad now though so he keeps making me tea

Freddiecat · 11/02/2004 14:24

So glad others are having braxton hicks. I keep getting this funny sensation which is mainly in my throat (really hard to describe). It rang a vague bell from last time to do with BH. Then just now I was lying on the bed (the joys of working at home) and felt my uterus tighten and harden!.

madgirl · 11/02/2004 14:36

i was so determined not to find out, but i find for some strange (pregnancy?) hormonal reason that i am now thinking about it. quacks, i remember now that one of my ante-natal pals from ds had that with her first and second baby. they are bigger now than my ds who was born at 7'11"!

Quackers · 11/02/2004 15:25

Wow MG!!!! My DD is still small but I think she'll catch up soon!!!

littlerach · 11/02/2004 19:42

So glad it went ok for you Quacks.
I think I have felt movement!!! But it may have been wind!!!!!
Am I the only one who is hoping to find out the sex?
Am going on a meet-up tomorrow - rather excited.
Mw on Fri 13th!!

popsycal · 11/02/2004 19:44

can you feel your fundus freddiecat - can i feel it on monday!!!

(sorry ladies....)

tomkitty · 12/02/2004 15:50

Poor birdgirls, with daddies making them cry like that.

I had a nice little bump until this morning. Boom! Now it's sticking out like a shelf just below my navel. Very high. It's quite ugly and I hope it doesn't continue like this. I'm sure it will fill out.

I am having what feels like 1-2 min fairly intense period pains all through the abdomen. Are these Braxton-Hicks?

littlerach · 12/02/2004 16:55

Do you know, I think I have been getting BH last night, as my tummy went all hard. I am starting to find it hard to get comfy at night.

karen01 · 12/02/2004 17:59

Quackers,(just intruding from the June thread) I am in the same boat as you I am having scans every 4 weeks due to IUGR last pregnancy. I had scan on monday (21+4) have to have a doppler scan on the 3rd march then scans at 28, 32 and 36weeks.

Take Care all

littlerach · 13/02/2004 10:16

Good morning everyone, happy Fri 13th!!
Saw MW this morning - a different one today who leaves in March for her maternity leave - good continuity!!
Took blood, didn't faint or cry!! And it onl;y took one attempt this time!
She has said I won't see a consultant, as if I do go into prem labour, there's not much difference if I've seen him.
Has anyone else had headaches? And my pelvic bone keeps hurting, too!!

Quackers · 13/02/2004 10:55

Hiya, Littlerach, I do have achy hips and they get worse for me as time goes on. I've headaches quite bad in previous pgcies but not this one so bad.
Feeling bigger now and busting out of my suits for work and using a safety pin to close it Only 6 weeks to go here so I refuse to buy anything new!!

SpringChicken · 13/02/2004 11:13

Morning all!

I have had terrible aching hips and have had so for the last 7-8 weeks. It goes right from my lower back, through my hips and bum then into the tops of my legs. S'pose it doesn't help sitting a chair all day long, i don't have particulaly good posture either.

I desperately need some new clothes but rather than buy maternity stuff just yet thought i would order some bigger sizes from the catalogue - well, they turned up yesterday and were absolutely useless, The tops i'd prdered where fine but the 2 pairs of 3/4 lengths and combats were crap, only just fit me now so going to be now use in a couple of weeks. Looks like it's going to be maternity stuff for me soon whether i like it or not.
I wouldn't mind if i actually fitted into maternity wear but it's all just huge at the mo. Maybe my bump will grow rapidly over the course of the next few weeks so i can treat myself to nice fitting maternity bits for holiday

P.S Remember i'm not moaning though

Quackers · 13/02/2004 11:38

Hi Jems, remember you'll need maternity clothes anyway so you might as well get some and get your wear out of them. I got some really nice cargo type trousers in Mothercare, that fit from early pgcy as they have 2 zips at the top that you unfasten when you get in the later stages, so they are perfect. Most maternity clothes will either fit under bump and fit throughout pgcy or will pull in tighter over bump, so they should fit throughout. They do tops too that are fitted rather than baggy if that's what you prefer and that looks really good with under bump trousers. Next as we said have great things too. I have some stuff from last pgcy but clothes have gone all trendy now so I have bought more!!!!
I have nicer clothes in pgcy than normal!

bossykate · 13/02/2004 11:59

quackers, where do you recommend other than next for mat wear?

SpringChicken · 13/02/2004 12:03

Yeah S'pose Quacks - How do Maternity size's work then?
I've got a pair of trousers that are a size 10 and still too big for me even when you put the elasticated bit on the smallest possible notch - i don't think i've been a size 10 since i was about 12 years old!

THink that's the reason i've been putting it off as i don't want to spend loads on buying maternity bits in one size if i'm going to need bigger stuff later on - Do i make any sense?

Quackers · 13/02/2004 12:12

Yes you do make sense, I would say it's the style you;re going for then?? Those underbump ones fit from 3 months as your under bump doesn't change a huge deal throughout, no straps to mess with etc.... I do find sometimes I'm a size smaller than regular size even for maternity wear, when you;re supposed to buy the same size.
BK, hope you;re well. I've personally found from this and other pgcies,Dorothy perkins maternity really good and Mothercare, Next is ok, but doesn't fit me as well as I thought. I like the look of some of the blooming marvellous stuff but don't you think it's really expensive for what you get? JoJo Maman is good too but expensive, that's why I like Next, cheapish and easy to return if it doesn't fit! Have you bought anything yet BK??

Quackers · 13/02/2004 12:14

OH forgot to say, you buy all your maternity gear in your pre pregnant size. They should fit throughout your pgcy in that size as they can go smaller or bigger as you found! So if you're a twelve get a twelve, you WILL fit in them!! Give it a few more weeks and you'll live in them!

SpringChicken · 13/02/2004 12:24

Thanks Quacks - your a star! Don't know how i'd cope without the mumsnet brigade sometimes

Just got to break it to DP now that i need more money to spend on maternity clothes!
