hi quackers

next came out as my all around best bet last time. they wouldn't be a "star" in any category (e.g. fashion, value) - just a good all-round choice with the highest "average" score (not that i actually scored them or anything, iyswim).

dp do have some quite fashionable stuff, but i find most of it - sorry - too cheap looking and skimpy. people swear by hennes but i think hennes is quite hit or miss anyway, and i've never found anything nice there. agree with you blooming marvellous stuff is overpriced and v. poor quality. jjmmbb - terrible customer service. formes - most of their stuff is blech and really expensive.

is it possible i'm too picky?

Quackers · 13/02/2004 13:47

No, I haven't looked at DP this time, but when I was having DD their stuff was great and it has lasted until this pgcy. Don't know what they have now. I haven't looked at Formes, will check out their website! Have just ordered some stuff from next as they do 3 tops for £20 and some great trousers AND in long length which I need!

madgirl · 13/02/2004 13:55

how strange, quacks, i imagined you my height- dwarf size of 5'2"! have just been looking at formes, quite pricey and their web site drove me nuts. this is subject close to heart as went shopping last eve for a frock to wear to my best friend's engagement party. looked in mothercare, jojomamanbebe in allders, next, hennes, and couldn't find anything i am going on trek tom. pm of all maternity clothes shops in south west london.........

Quackers · 13/02/2004 14:02

Hi MG, you sure! JoJo have 2 pages of dresses for evenings out. Might not be everyones taste!
Yes I'm 5'8", skinny, blonde - only joking!!!!!
I'm 5'8" though, bout a size 14-16, dark almost black long hair. Does that fit with how you imagined!!

Quackers · 13/02/2004 14:19

OMG, just been on the Formes website! SO EXPENSIVE for what you get!!! I don't even think it's nice stuff, I'd feel like a sack o spuds in some of that!

madgirl · 13/02/2004 14:24

i know it's really expensive isn't it! i expected you to me fair, not dark quacks. next time i get a decent photo scanned in i'll e you!
i can't bear to buy mail order tho as things never seem to fit me- i am enormous ( i mean i am the size now that i was with ds at about 30 weeks, seriously) as well for 19 weeks, and only a short-arse too.

SpringChicken · 13/02/2004 14:30

Nope, i imagined you to be about 5"2 ish as well Quacks - Isn't strange how you build up perceptions of people!
God only knows what you must think about me!

Been having a look on the next website but you have to have an account to be able to order, i thought you would have the option to pay on account or by card - bit of a pain as the only next i know that does maternity stuff is Milton Keynes or Watford

madgirl · 13/02/2004 14:38

sc, i know it's a pain isn't it? i went all the way to croydon last evening to the croydon next as they claimed to stock the maternity range, and they didn't have the full range in

madgirl · 13/02/2004 14:38

sc, i imagine you with very long legs and wavy hair!!

madgirl · 13/02/2004 14:39

and can you tell i am bored and my boss has the day off

bossykate · 13/02/2004 14:41

next directory is best for mat wear - the print version is better than the online version at www.next.co.uk.

madgirl · 13/02/2004 14:43

bk do you have to spend a certain amount a month to get next directory? also- is it major hassle returning stuff?

bossykate · 13/02/2004 14:51

no, madgirl, not at all, and one of the reasons i like it is it is so easy to return stuff - they will send a courier or you can take it in to your local branch of next, for example.

SpringChicken · 13/02/2004 15:04

Completely agreed BK - The Next Directory is a god send. I have order £100's worth of suits from my mums catalgoue and when they don't fit just bag 'em up and take them to the store. No hassle of paperwork or taking to the post office!

Mum has got rid of hers now though - am tempted to get one myself but i know i will just spend a complete fortune on mat wear, baby clothes, houseware - I think i'm a next addict
I have a friend who is blacklisted because she got so carried away on her next account - nightmare!

Oooops!

Quackers · 13/02/2004 15:43

I love, Next, the returns system is great and that's why I get stuff cos I know if it doesn't fit I can just take it into the store. You just order a Directory and they give you an account number, that way you can order and pay there and then or pay the minimum each month. It costs £3.75 I think, but I get all my housey stuff and girls clothes from there, although don't ever order mens, I think it's the same every season.

Quackers · 13/02/2004 15:45

Oh, here's my thoughts on you lot!

MG - 5'2" (how did I guess)! Medium hair, medium build, pretty and giggly!

Jems, 5'5", dark hair, very slim, speaks her mind but has a soft centre !!

SpringChicken · 13/02/2004 15:56

WRONG! !

I'm 5ft 7 - dark blonde/brown should length hair naturally (Dark brown at present) - Not very slim at all, never really have been and most definitely aren't now. (Wonder if you thought that because of my age)
Wouldn't class me as fat or overweight but just at the bigger end of average for my height!
Plan to be like Kate Moss once i have given birth though.
Do pretty much say what i think but your right have got a big heart - specially when it comes to my family and friends - would do anything for anyone type

Quacks, Imagine you to be about 5ft2, dark shortish hair. Very family orientated but game for a laugh!

MG, Imagine you to be quite young, just below shoulder fairish hair (maybe dark blonde). Always thoguht you would be quite tall but know differently now!

BK, Tall, dark hair, slim, quite scary looking, as in a child being scared of a teacher kind of way (God, hope i haven't offended)

madgirl · 13/02/2004 15:58

laugh!! sc what is quite young? off now to pick up my (smaller) boy, may pop in over w/end but until monday......cross your fingers for me that i get some real movement from the one inside this w/end as i haven't so far and worry wart that i am i am panicking there is sth wrong. take care everyone. mg x

bossykate · 13/02/2004 16:00

lol, sc spot on apart from slim!

SpringChicken · 13/02/2004 16:11

So i'm quite a good judge of character then! Least that's one thing i'm good at

Quite young......erm.....probably mid- late 20's.
Have good weekend Madgirl.

Quackers · 13/02/2004 16:23

Jems, you are spot on with me too, not physically though. I'm 5'8" as said, average size, long, v dark hair. I do love my family but I LOVE a mad time too, hence why I carried on being Cabin Crew for a while even after having DD!!!!! Just couldn't quite give up that party animal in me!!

BK, I imagine to be about 30-35, dependable, hard working, attractive, bit of an office looker but get's her head down - in the work sense!!! I mean

MG, don't worry about the movements yet. When are you having a listen??? Wish you were near me, I'd get my Doppler out!

littlerach · 16/02/2004 11:40

Hello everyone, how are you all?
Had a relaxing weekend, just pottering around and going out for lunch.
Off to visit friend who has just had her first. She called on Saturday and demanded to know why I hadn't told her "the truth" about labour!!!! But she is loving it, even the lack of sleep. Making me v. excited!!
Is anyone around?

chickpea · 17/02/2004 12:50

Hello all

just scanned the thread to keep up and noticed you were talking about maternity wear. Completely agree with you quack - Formes is incredibly expensice and fairly horrible. I have just ordered some maternity wera from Isabella Oliver and I love it. It's not cheap but not incredibly expensive. Everything is brown, black or white, Very simple stying to closely fir your bump with soft stretchy jersey material. By far the best I have seen anywhere.

I liked it so much I went out and brought come material and copied the wrap top myself. Took me a few hours but it was worth it and teh fabric only cost me a tenner.

Trousers are roll up or wear down in hispters - very cool. Have a look at

I noticed in anothe rthread someone said they didn't like her clothes but you really should have a look. I live in it already and am only 20 wks.

Sizes do come up a bit small so order on the large side. I am usually 12/14 but ordered Large which is 14/16 and it fits perfectly even with the mammoth breasts I seem to have developed.

Juat had an idea - send your orders I'll make you all clothes half I O's original price - perhaps a new business idea.
