Well never thought i would be the person starting one of these threads!

Thought i was due 29th June but have now realised it's 6th July.

So when are you going to reveal yourself NGPY?

Wow M2T - didn't realise you would be able to feel it that early - must be different for each person - oooohhhhh so i could only have to wait another 2 weeks

I am trying really hard in the day to not be one of these people who touches their belly all the time as i am at work but as soon as i get home i just can't help it!

NGPY · 15/01/2004 13:25

I had my booking in appt this morning. It all went well enough. The MW wouldn't listen for the hearbeat (I'm 12 wks so could be just possible to hear it) on the grounds that it was far from certain that she'd be able to pick it up, and then I would only worry...

Nuchal scan is next Tuesday, so will know for certain then and resume normal identity - assuming all goes well.

SpringChicken · 15/01/2004 15:01

Is that usual then NGYP? I know it may differ from midwife to midwife but in everything i have read (Miriam Stoppard so not necessarily correct) it says you will definitely be able to hear heartbeat by 12 weeks.

Not trying to scare you - just wondered if your miswife was a bit of a hag or couldn't be bothered?

SpringChicken · 15/01/2004 15:07

I was interviewing someone at work today - told them i would be leaving in June for Maternity leave and she said "Oh my god, i didn't know you were pregnant, you don't look it"

I felt all sad, i really thought i was starting to look pregnant rather than just flabby!

I feel like not giving her the job now but she was really good!

M2T · 15/01/2004 15:13

SC - My MW didn't attempt to hear the heartbeat until 16wks purely so as not to worry me if the baby was in a position where it couldn't be heard. I had never heard of anyone hearing the heartbeat as early as 12 weeks before so I think it's fairly common for them not to look for it until later.

You're only 19 and responsible for hiring people???? My goodness you must be a bit of high flier!
I didn't look pregnant with ds until 24 wks! I was gutted. But then again you hear such differing views. One day someone says Oh MY what a neat bump you have...... the next day someone different says Oh MY what a big bump you have! Don't worry about it.

SpringChicken · 15/01/2004 15:32

And firing unfortunately M2T - looks like i might be having to do that today as well!
I always feel so guilty when i have to ask someone to leave - not that i've had to do it too often - even when the bosses are firing someone i go and hide in another office so i don't feel bad when the ex-employee walks back into the office to collect her belongings!

What a poof

M2T · 15/01/2004 15:36

I'm being nosy now... .... what is it you do and how did you get such a position of power ( ) so young???

Oh you are a chicken.

SpringChicken · 15/01/2004 15:48

See, name is more appropriate than i first realised

Basically its because i work for my parents company.................i know, i know, easy ride cos she works for parents but that honestly isn't the case.

I've worked here since i was about 13 - in school holidays, after school etc doing administration bits, sending our letters etc - left school in June 2000, decided to go to college and work here when not at college doing basically the same stuff oddbod jobs - lasted at college for about 6 weeks, absolutely hated it came here to work as a stepping stone as i wasn't sure what i wanted to do and have been here ever since.
I do sometimes get nice perks, like a company car etc but i do work very hard and have worked my way up from being an oddbody to a Senior Accounts Manager responsible for running an office, day to day bits like stationary orders, petty cash etc controlling 5 members of a team (soon to be 4..........) and dealing with all money issues regarding the paying of bills!

Bet your weren't angling for all that

SpringChicken · 15/01/2004 15:50

And i wondered why i had a headache today - i do more than i realised And spent a limited amount of the day on Mumsnet of course

littlerach · 15/01/2004 17:30

I'm sure that with dd the mw listened for heartbeat at 12 wks. Am hoping she will tomorrow at my appt, as that makes it real. You know what I mean, it's sometimes hard to think there's something inside you without any "proof"!! Am I being weird??

Quackers · 16/01/2004 09:06

This thread was busy yesterday! Glad you came over Norfolk!!!!
I do understand about the midwife not wanting to disappoint you by not listening. I did get a heartbeat at 10 weeks 1 day this time very clearly but the same doctor refused with my second pgycy as she had a different doppler at the time, maybe the doppler makes the difference, Mears would know! It must also be the way the baby is lying as they do fidget alot don't they! Actually the second time she listened at 12 weeks, she couldn't get it and I panicked, but she persevered for about 5 minutes and we did get it eventually!
I am radpidly growing out of my work clothes and my friend said I was getting a little bump, wayhay!!!!
This might sound funny and I dismissed it as wind but it has happened the last 2 days about the same time. I have felt a little 'wobble' in my tum. I haven't been waiting to feel anything as it's way too early but is it possible at all at nearly 13 weeks?? I wouldn't have thought so but the feeling is so separate from me I feel!!!!! You all probably think I'm batty!!!!

NorfolkTurkey · 16/01/2004 11:30

Quackers - you never know! They say that with subsequent pregnancies you feel the baby move earlier?? I'm 14 weeks and I'm sure I can feel it (like your belly is full of eels feeling!).

I am really mad today. I was supposed to have a scan at the hospital but I mislaid my letter. I phoned them up and they are insisting that my next scan isn't until the 20 week one in February. I am so mad (mainly at myself for mislaying it). I was so looking forward to this, as my mind is working overtime at the moment!

hermykne · 16/01/2004 11:34

i just cant keep up with everyone on this thread!
every time i get a chance to log in to it, there is some one new, norfolk turkey hi!

any one gettng sinus/headaches this early?
i just took dispirin last night but it was so sore, i had to close my eyes with it for ease.

Quackers · 16/01/2004 11:54

Hiya, yes I have had the odd bad headache too! Don't really know why!!

Norfolk, that's terrible, I bet you're so frustrated!! Have you had a scan yet? have you tried calling your consultant's secretary and explaining about your losses etcc Say you're very fretful and need some reassurance. It seems a long time to wait for someone in your position. I got my booking in appointment forms though and found out I'm not having a scan either!!! Was gutted and called the consultant's sec. She said I will get one next visit, whenever that may be. So I too am very disappointed. I hate inconsistency. She did ask when my last scan was and said 9 weeks, so she said I am due one. No idea when though!

splash · 16/01/2004 12:51

hi quackers would just like to say a big fat congratulations to you, im so glad things are going well for you.

Quackers · 16/01/2004 13:31

Ah thanks Splash, hope things are well with you!!!! Nice to hear from you!

NorfolkTurkey · 16/01/2004 15:25

Hi Hermykne! During my last two pregnancies, I suffered big time from headaches. Thought I'd got away with it this time, but I have started suffering from the odd one. Oooooh me 'ormones!

Quackers - on the scan front I suppose I can't really complain as I have already had 5 scans (4 probes and the dating scan). I'm surprised that you weren't booked in earlier in view of your history. I was booked in about 5 weeks (as I knew I was preggars early - I almost felt the first cell dividing!), had bloods done a few weeks later. Policy varies from hospital to hospital I suppose.

Hopefully the consultant cana rrange me an emergency scan when I see her next tuesday. If not I'll have to bite the bullet.

Quackers · 16/01/2004 15:41

Oh that's good then. I had scans at 7 and 9 weeks. We don't have community midwives here and the hospital books in everyone at around 11 weeks. I think Xmas has delayed mine a bit though as I'll be 13. I'll get my bloods done then etc Have seen the Doctor though too every 2 weeks. Just was hoping for a scan at 12 rather then 14-16 weeks!

mears · 17/01/2004 00:51

We don't listen in to babies until 16 weeks because of the difficulty in picking it up. The NICE guidelines for antenatal care say it shouldn't be listened for routinely - see page 22 of 44 in this here
I think most women like the fetal heart to be heard though.

littlerach · 17/01/2004 08:35

I had my booking appt yesterday, and they listened for the heartbeat and found it - hurrah!!
No blood taken, they do that at 16 wks.
I will have to see a consultant at some point, as dd was prem, and this is a community hospital, so no provision for scbu. I am hoping that they will let me deliver there if I get to 37 wks, as it is so much nicer than the last one I went to!! Also my labour was quite rapid last time, and there would be the worry that I wouldn't make it in time!!
Overall, a lovely mw and a nice antenatal clinic - rather reassuring!!

Quackers · 19/01/2004 13:36

That's great news Littlerach, I would love to have my baby in a place like that. Only one choice here. It's fine, just not as cosy as I would like and don't think I'll be allowed a home birth due to complications with my first.

Had another panick this morning. I could not feel my uterus!! I thought it had gone and that was it. My Doc had a feel and said I was way off! It has risen really high for some reason, only a couple of fingers from my belly button!!! So I was nowhere near feeling right down low. Heartbeat fine and 13 weeks. Booking in tommorow, thank god!!
My first was only 5 pounds a week over, hope this baby isn't going to be a bruiser!!! DD was hard work enough and made enough of a tear to need about 15 stitches! - HELP!

littlerach · 19/01/2004 13:48

How do you feel your uterus? I know the mw did when she did the heartbeat, but how do you do it?
Is anyone else weeing all the time? And when I turn over in bed my bladder seems to get squashed and I have to run to the loo!!

Freddiecat · 19/01/2004 13:59

Hello all - sorry for not being on for ages. Am fine but have the third stinking cold of this pregnancy. It's gone right into my sinuses and I can't hear a thing. And there's nothing I can take for it apart from paracetamol and the odd facial steam. Feeling v sorry for myself.

Am full-on in maternity wear now - have a huge bump (no stomach muscles!). Went to a friend's wedding at the weekend and felt very matronly in my new smart maternity dress.

Hope everyone is doing OK. Am nearly 17 weeks now and think I have felt the baby move a little bit.

SpringChicken · 19/01/2004 14:23

Wey-hey Freddie Good to have you back!

Blimey - can't believe your in full maternity wear already - i'd be in a right state as i only own 1 maternity top and 1 pair of mat trousers (which i have begged off best friend)

I'm 15+2 today - stomach is getting bigger and bigger - can definitely see if am pregnant now as apposed to just chunky (I Think ) I thought i would wear a baggy top yesterday as alot of my stuff is quite clingy now due to growing bump and boobs - as soon as i walked into MIL's house she made me stand in the kitchen so she could the bump - she could see it really clearly as i walked in and that was wearing a baggy top Finally! Will prob hate it in 3 months time when i am so big i look ready to pop but really have another 2 months left.

Quacks, How do you feel your uterus? I'm intrigued! low down in my tummy you can feel it i really really solid, further towards my belly button is a bit more sqidgy - where is my uterus then?

M2T · 19/01/2004 14:30

SC - At 15 weeks the uterus hasn't reached up to your naval yet. THat is usually nearer the 20 wk mark. The best way to feel it is to lie on your back and feel the top of your pubic bone..... run your hands upwards toward your belly button, pressing quite firmly and you should feel the lump.
I am desperately trying to find it, but as I am only just approavhing the 12 wk mark I think it's mostly still hidden in my pelvis.

Good luck.
