Think i have found it without knowing then God, i am so dippy at times!

That must be what the hard bit is low down in my tummy! DER!

How are you getting on M2T? Can believe your 12 weeks already.............everything just seems to be going so quickly!

Quackers · 19/01/2004 15:12

Yes if you lie down on the bed and gently press with your 2 or 3 fingers, you'll feel the harder bit. It reaches the belly button about 20 weeks, but I'm almost there! My button is quite low down, that must be why!! The midwife will start measuring you soon, I like that bit, especially when they say the head is engaged so many degrees. I remember feeling like my floor was going to fall out just before delivery, hilarious! get doing your pelvic floor!! M2T you should feel it any day now. It suddenly just appears doesn't it!! I do still need the loo though - loads!!

M2T · 19/01/2004 15:18

lol SC!! Time is flying isn't it!!? I can't believe it's been 8 wks since I found out!

Quackers - Yeah I 'think' I can feel something but not sure. I am peeing for Scotland though! I have to get up twice through the night. Good practice.

Chickpea · 19/01/2004 15:58

Hi,

I am new to this site and would like to join your thread. In fact, I'm new to any sort of chat, talk or whatever on the internet.

Had I known about the site I could have probably logged on earlier as I am already 16 weeks (due 5th July). I have two children already (age 5 and 7) but had two miscarriages last year at 12 and 16 weeks.

I saw on another thread some disussion about the merits of dopplers and I thoght that I might hire one for a month or two until I am confident that I can feel the baby moving regularly. Does anyone know a reasonably priced source?

Also does anyone have any experiences or views on older siblings being present at the birth? I am hoping to have a home birth and would like them both present.

look forward to hearing from you.

Hi everyone - haven't been around for a while as DS has had really horrible chicken pox and been really poorly!. He is better now though and back at nursery. I've had sinus and ear infections and a bad cold so haven't felt up to talking. Hope all are okay.Getting fatter stopped feeling sick and can palpitate fundus (!)

Quackers · 19/01/2004 16:48

Welcome Chickpea!!! Might have been my thread actually! I also had 2 m/c's last year and although my Doc is fab and will see me to listen, I feel like I've used all my NHS allocation for a good while!!! I have bought a Doppler from Ebay. A brand new one. It's a PD1, so is high quality but does not show a digital display as that model was really expensive! If you are interested I can give you the direct contact. I have taken advice on board that we should really limit the amount of ultrasound waves that I subject the baby to, but I also have to control any panick that may arise now and again! So I intend to listen no more than once a week and leave the poor lamb alone as much as poss! Hope this helps and hope to chat to you more as our pgcies progress!!!
Helsbels - welcome back!!!

Chickpea · 19/01/2004 17:33

Thanks Quackers - a contact would be v. helpful. Yes my mid-wife is very understanding too but she is so busy (lots of pregnant women around at the moment apparently)and it would be nice just to reassure myself now and again.

Do you have any children already?

Quackers · 19/01/2004 21:03

Hi, yes I do have a 3 yr old DD, eagerly awaiting the new arrival!!

I have looked on Ebay and there are only digital ones at the moment at least £160. Don't know how you feel about paying that. So found this website, they do hiring for £28 ish per month, but if you keep it 7 months they let you keep it!
here

Chickpea · 20/01/2004 09:35

Thanks Quackers. I think I will hire one aa hopefully I will feel sufficiently reassured by the time I get to 6 months.

Have you, has anyone, felt any movement yet that you can definitely say is not wind, nerves or anything else?

madgirl · 20/01/2004 09:54

Hi Chickpea, nice to have you on the thread. I have one ds already, he is 3 next month, and i am 15.4 weeks. I feel gurgles but must say i couldn't swear it's the baby, i didn't feel ds until i was 20/21 weeks ( i was on honeymoon in tuscany- god that was a magical moment ) so i am NOT panicing this time!! with your previous losses tho i can understand your need for reassurance, big time. i'm gi-normous this time! normally a size 8 (don't hiss everyone- i'm only 5'2"!) i'm rapidly taking on the appearance of a weeble (oops showing my age).

SpringChicken · 20/01/2004 09:59

Hi Chickpea!

I'm 15+3 today, haven't had any children before so not sure about the feelings and movements - i have felt some odd feelings in my tummy like little pops of air or like a goldfish in a bag that's been won at the fair (flipping itself against the sides). Can't guarantee this is the baby though, could just be wind for all i know - s'pose i wont know really for another 5 weeks or so yet!

How it going be a lady of leisure quacks? What've you been doing with yourself?

Chickpea · 20/01/2004 11:58

Hello Spring Chicken amd Madgirl.

Have now looked up the abbreviations and now know what you are all talking about.I have 1ds 1dd and a dp. So how springy are you s.chick? and what age are you madgirl. I felt very young when I had my first at 25 as none of my piers had kids at that stage but now they are all doing it (late 20's early thirties).

dinosaur · 20/01/2004 12:00

Hi there, sorry to barge in on your thread, but SpringChicken, those sure sound like baby movements to me! How exciting!

SpringChicken · 20/01/2004 12:43

Ohh i hope so Dino i haven't felt for a few days, think last time was Friday and the feelings seemed to last for ages!

Dp laughed at my description when i told him about it the other day - he thought i was nuts

I'm very springy Chick, only 19, got lots of spring left in me too

Quick Question: Going on holiday 18th March - do i need to tell my midwife? Surely it best that she knows! Not that i'm trying not to tell her but keep forgetting to mention it when i do see her!

Chickpea · 20/01/2004 13:01

SChick - I don't think you need to if you are only going for a week or two. Can't believe you are only 19!! I thought I was young with my first. It can be fantastic being a young Mum. Have you got plenty of support? I found it quite difficult having a baby when all of my friends were working, traveling and doing all sorts of other stuff except having babies but it's great now. C pea

M2T · 20/01/2004 13:31

SC - You should tell your MW and perhaps take your maternity medical notes with you too..... just in case.

Chickpea - I feel very young to be having my 2nd baby at 25. Most of my friends still live a partying lifestyle!! But then I think of my 30th birthday..... and I will have finished all my nappy changing and potty training and perhaps getting my long-lies back on a Sunday morning.

madgirl · 20/01/2004 13:33

blimey not telling you how old i am!

dinosaur · 20/01/2004 13:34

...creeps in from the August board to reassure madgirl - you're not as old as me! ...creeps back out again...

SpringChicken · 20/01/2004 14:36

I get lots of support ChickPea - i've been lucky that i am in a well paid job which i have been in for 3 years - have been with partner for 4 years - we own our own 2 bedroom house and also own 2 cars. We also gets loads of support from both families.

It's a really nice feeling knowing i don't have to rely on anyone for anything now - we are not in the best financial situation ever but having worked out all of our finances for whilst i will be on maternity leave my DP's wages are enough to cover all bills and general living expenses - people's birthdays and Xmas will be a struggle but we'll cross those bridges when we come to them.

When i first booked in with my midwife she asked if i wanted to got o a support group for teenage pregnancies - she got the shock of her life when she realised our situation - she obviously thought to herself, another young girl, gone and got herself in trouble and will have to cope on her own - it's amazing what people pressume without knowing this baby was actually planned and took quite a while to come along

Quackers · 20/01/2004 15:56

I can;t believe that SP!!! You sound like you have your head screwed on to me!!! I felt young at 26 and I'll be 30 with my second but everyone is different aren't they!!
BTW, I'm not quite a lady of leisure yet SC!!! 8 more weeks to go and I'll be going off to my Aquanatal classes!!!!
Had my booking in today, all is well! They feel I might needs more regular scans as my DD was so tiny when born and she was overdue even then. I just think small babies run in our family! I certainly didn't feel small!!! Not got a scan though until 16 weeks, so another 3 to wait, feel like ages ago my 9 week early scan!
My doppler cma etoday, have put it away to use for 'emergencies'!!

M2T · 20/01/2004 16:04

Quacks - Good news.

How did you get the doppler? Is it one of those electronic ones that the midwives use?? how much was it??? I WANT ONE!

Chickpea · 20/01/2004 16:24

SC - You sound more prepared than I am!! I'm sure it feels quite nice to proove people wrong. I met my DP anf fell pregnant three months later, My mDm and DD found it particularly hard to accept and I have to admit that whether to kepp or not was a difficult decision. But it is now eight years later we have a 2dcs a lovely home and a dog!! and we've never looked back aahhhh.

Quackers - you are becoming quite an authority on dopplers. I went to see my mid wife at lunchtime today but she couldn't fit me in to listen until 3.45 by which time I had to be back at work. I am definitely going to hire a doppler now so I don't have to hassle mw anymore and so that I don't feel so agrieved if she can't slot me in. I am syre there is room for setting up another doppler business as the company you told me about seems to be the only one I can locate and it is v expensive.

bossykate · 20/01/2004 17:07

hi everyone

had nuchal scan today and all well, clear and strong heartbeat, CRL 70mm, low risk for down's.

i'm due on the 29th July (12+5 today - confirmed by scan) so will also hang out on the august thread.

i'm so relieved, it has all been rather a strain up to now.

thanks to everyone who has been kind enough to respond to questions from "NGPY"

SpringChicken · 20/01/2004 17:16

Oh...........My........God! ! ! It was you.......................

CONGRATULATIONS BossyKate I can't believe it!

So glad everything is OK - S'pose we'd better say welcome again now we know it's you

P.S Must admit - took me a while to figure out why BossyKate was posting on the July thread - thought i'd missed a vital post at first!

Chickpea · 20/01/2004 17:31

I have checked down the thread and am still confused about bossykate and ngpy but Bossykate that sounds like great news.

Is it my imagination or are we all completely neurotic? There seem to be an unusual number of women who have had mcs on this site. Do you think there are so many women on this site who have experienced one or more mcs as it gives that bit of companionship/they know how it feels sort of thing?
