Hi there. I was just wondering how everyone is - Ghosty, Hilary, Bogwoppit and anybody else who is pregnant after a previous miscarriage. There seems to have been a lot of sad news re pregnancies on mumsnet recently. On the one hand, I feel like I don't want to parade being pregnant in front of those who have had an m/c - on the other hand, we need to show that there are some positive stories out there!
I am 16 weeks tomorrow. Feeling ok, over the nausea I felt from about week 7 to week 12 or 13.

That's really worrying Quacks, thanks for the link. Not sure what to do now, I have already had one scan, due for 2 noext week, one at 8 weeks, 10 weeks and 12 weeks plus the fetal anomily scan at 20 weeks. Gosh, really dont know now. Dh doesnt want me to have any scans at all but I need at least a couple. bugger, why is this so hard?

jellycat · 29/03/2004 22:56

Hello bunny, I'm back and still pregnant! Good to see you are too, and your blood results sound very promising. WRT the ultrasounds, I haven't read all of the link quackers posted, but could you discuss it with your doctor? I know they quoted lots of studies in the link which suggested there are risks associated with ultrasound, but there may be lots of others they haven't quoted, which don't show any risks. At the same time, the early scans probably aren't going to change the outcome of your pregnancy.

I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow and am hoping to persuade her to refer me for an early scan or blood tests or something to reassure me. I had some spotting on the day I did the test (a very tiny amount) but nothing since. But I just don't feel very pregnant . Do you have many symptoms yet bunny?

Quackers · 30/03/2004 00:13

Oh Bunny, I am so sorry. I feel really bad now. It wasn't intended to scare you at all or make you feel uncomfortable. I am sorry. I am sometimes my own worst enemy. I keep all sorts of stuff. Ultrasound has been done for over 50 years and they have no evidence apart from these few studies to show that there could be a small risk if any. I thought this showed that there was little evidence really as the studies are random and small. I feel awful. I have looked at my posts today though and I feel that reassurance alone is one hell of a reason to have a scan and said that. God I use my doppler once a week but limit it to that as I know I need to know all is well but realise that I should only do it when necessary. I think these studies refer to people having multiple scans contunously in a contolled study. Please do not be worrying about having a scan to find out your baby is ok. You need it for reassurance as many of us have done and that is most important I feel. Knowing your baby is ok is much more important.
I am sorry again Bunny.

Quacks, pls dont feel bad, I would rather know of possible risks and then make up my own mind. I am glad you posted the link. I read the last chapter of the Regan book this morning about care in early pregnancy and she has scanned her patients every week with excellent results (80% live birth). I think I will proceed with caution.

Jellycat, thanks too for your message. I did some googling last night and found plenty of studies that suggest there is no risk with ultrasound. It is frustrating because there is so much conflicting advice. I hope your appt with your doctor goes well, you should be able to get a referral for some tests or a scan. When I was expecting ds I bled several times and always got a scan the next day. Good luck.

Quackers · 30/03/2004 16:19

Thanks Bunny, it;s like anything, you like to know the score and make up your own mind. I trust Lesley regan so much and if she says once per week in early pgcy then I'm happy with that!
Jellycat, hope you;re ok!

jellycat · 31/03/2004 01:29

Yes I am OK thanks Quackers. Went to see my GP to do the Hello I'm pregnant' thing. She said she would refer me for a scan straight away if I had any more spotting, but she said she'd be shot' if she requested a scan because I didn't feel pg. I don't feel too upset that I didn't get anywhere (especially since at only 5 weeks I don't think they'd be able to see much would they?) - but if I keep on feeling so un-pregnant I might go back. I have my booking in appointment at the end of April.

bunny2 · 31/03/2004 11:01

Jellycat, it is so early for symptoms, mine usually kick in around 6 weeks. I dont have any so far except for feeling very tired. Pls dont fret too much about it. I dont know how you feel about pretending to the doctor you have been spotting again, I was tempted in my last pregnancy as I was desperate for a scan but decided not to as I didnt want to tempt fate.

jellycat · 31/03/2004 11:57

I don't really intend to pretend that I'm spotting if I'm not, I'm just not very good at that sort of thing (can't lie, and feel really bad if I even try). But I might go back and plead! What has been worrying me is that I did have symptoms for a few days and now they have gone . It's just a waiting game I suppose.

Quackers · 31/03/2004 12:44

jellycat, didn't realise you felt like this as I don't see much of you now!! Listen, please don;t worry, as Bunny says you are so early on!! I didn't get any symptoms as such until 7 weeks and I had spotting at 5-6 weeks. If the spotting has stopped I would be encouraged so early on as your hormone levels are not very high and if they had dropped so as to make you spot, they would drop further if all was not well and a m/c would in majority of cases happen spontaneously as hormones so low, like a late period. At 5 weeks there are all sorts of reasons for the spotting, cervical erosion, placenta implanting as that happens about a week after imp of embryo and general hormonal unheaval. Wait for a scan if you can until 7 weeks as there will be a heartbeat then. Before that they will see a sac and foetal pole to show all is normal but no heartbeat till about 7 weeks so worth waiting a little of you can of course! HTH!! I was a wreck for the first few weeks, convinced I had lost a third but I got a lovely surprise at my scan and saw the heartbeat Good luck!!!

jellycat · 31/03/2004 15:14

Thanks Quackers!

jellycat · 31/03/2004 22:33

How have you been today bunny? I seem to have suddenly developed boobs (I don't usually have them as such) and a MASSIVE appetite so I'm feeling a bit happier .

hewlettsdaughter · 31/03/2004 23:38

Hi all, have just caught up with your news. Thanks bunny for posting good wishes on the April thread. Jellycat, I remember it took a while for me to feel symptoms this pregnancy - sounds like you're getting good signs now though!

Quackers · 02/04/2004 23:52

Hi all, hope you;re well! HD lovely to hear from you!!! I'm waiting for your news!!!
Bunny, how's it going chuck?? Scan very soon!!! How far along will you be your scan day??
Jelly, how are you feeling now? Remember, ealry days!
Well, I'm almost 23 weeks now and looking forwrad to the next mile stone of 24 weeks. It has passed very quickly since 14-15 weeks, but before that I was just very nervous and looking forward to the next scan to know all was well! I'm having a scan again at 28 weeks, 32 and 36 weeks to check baby is growing ok, which is great. It's because my DD was very small and they just being cautious, but I get to see bubbs again!
All the best!

jellycat · 03/04/2004 02:25

Hi Quackers. I'm still feeling nervous but I am apparently still pg! So you're nearly 23 weeks - when does that make you due? How lovely to get extra scans.

Hewlettsdaughter, thanks for your message too. It's really good to feel I can come here for support.

bunny2 · 03/04/2004 12:52

Hi, Quacks, that is great news, nearly 24 weeks, wow! I am glad to hear they are taking good care of you and giving you lots of scans. I was due for a scan this morning at the EPU but as I also hav one booked for Wednesday at the ferility unit, I cancelled this mornings. I am 6 weeks today so I hope by Wed, those extra couple of days will give me a better chance of seeing a heartbeat.

Jellycat, how are you? I dont really have many symptoms but I am so knackered. I go to bed early and still wake up feeling like I need another few hours sleep. When ds is at preschool I just veg on the sofa (I used to rush to the pool for a swin then come home and do a bit of decorating). I am also very hungry so am probably piling on those pounds!

jellycat · 03/04/2004 16:46

bunny, good luck for Wednesday then. I still don't have any symptoms. I'm not even particularly tired. I didn't get any sickness in my 2 previous pregnancies so I won't worry if I don't get that, but I'm not hungry any more, or constipated (which was a spectacular feature of last pg, from even before I did the test). So I just can't feel hopeful at all. I've been looking into results from early scans and think I'll try and get one when I'm about 8 weeks.

I've been wondering, how did you work out how many weeks you are? My last AF started 18th Feb so I reckon I'll be 6 weeks by the middle of this week (which will be 6 weeks from last AF) (although my GP disagreed and said by the end of the week??!). I thought we were cycle buddies but you seem to be a couple of days ahead if you are 6 weeks today. I'm just a bit confused (pg brain?)

Quackers · 03/04/2004 22:48

Hi!
Jelly, I'm due 27th July or therabouts! Glad you're feeling ok! Yes see if you can get a scan to put your mind at rest. It makes such a huge difference to your frame of mind and being able to get on with being pg! 8 weeks is a good time as you can make out the outline usually!!
Bunny, Hi! That sounds familiar! Vegging on the sofa whenever I could! You forget from the first time so much don;t you! I forgot how tried I was up to about 12 weeks and then it just lifted. Now it;s starting again though as baby getting a bit heavier! Must start my pelvic floor to hold it up a bit!!
Hope you get to see something at your scan! Will they do a TVS?

bunny2 · 03/04/2004 23:00

Jellycat, my last af was 16 Feb which is why my dates will be a bit ahead, but I didnt ovulate until day 17 or 18 so that puts me a few days back I get confused too! Hopefully the scan will give me some idea.

Quacks, get that pelvic floor working! Once it goes you've had it! I still regret not doing my exercises properly, things have never been the same since!

Quackers · 03/04/2004 23:04

I think it went ages ago Bunny! I have a terrible pelvic floor and have to build it up again!!!
All the best for your scan - be thinking of you! Don;t forget if you ov'd day 17/18, you might be a couple of days out. All the best!!!! I'll be logging on to see how you went on!

bunny2 · 04/04/2004 01:52

I'm bleeding - bright red blood, shit.

jmg · 04/04/2004 01:57

Bunny2

Do you think you can hold on until your scan on Wed or should you go to EPU tomorrow. You might be better knowing what is going on asap, rather than waiting. As you know it doesn't mean anything in itself but I understand how worried you must be. I guess only a scan is going to reassure you though.

Hope all is OK!

bunny2 · 04/04/2004 02:10

I will see if the EPU will scan me tomorrow. Will havr to go without dh, he is at vitally important meeting tomorrow, one that will make or break our company. He wants to cancel but I 've reassured him I'm ok. I'm bloody terrified though, 2 miscarriages so far, is this my third?

jmg · 04/04/2004 02:12

Is there someone else close to you that can go with you? It is difficult but I would want to go rather than putting it off.

Do you still feel preggers?

bunny2 · 04/04/2004 02:18

JMG, never did really have any symptoms apart from feeling extremely tired. The sickness hadnt kicked in yet. I might take my Mum if they agree to a scan tomorrow. Why me?

jmg · 04/04/2004 02:40

Bunny - I really really hope this is not no.3! I'll keep everything crossed for you!

Let us know how you get on tomorrow and whether the bleeding has stopped/got any better!

Lots of hugs to you.
