Hi there. I was just wondering how everyone is - Ghosty, Hilary, Bogwoppit and anybody else who is pregnant after a previous miscarriage. There seems to have been a lot of sad news re pregnancies on mumsnet recently. On the one hand, I feel like I don't want to parade being pregnant in front of those who have had an m/c - on the other hand, we need to show that there are some positive stories out there!
I am 16 weeks tomorrow. Feeling ok, over the nausea I felt from about week 7 to week 12 or 13.

Please can someone reassure me that i'm not neurotic. I'm so nervous with this pregnancy and can't really enjoy it. tbh it hasn't sunk in. I feel so in tune with my body after so many treatments that i'm constantly feeling things and today have been convinced AF is coming. I'm constantly checking my boobs, they are a bit tender today but only a bit. I feel sad that I feel so nervous. I felt a bit queasy but not much since last week though I have made sure i've slept loads and eaten plenty At the moment would just like to know that someone else has felt like AF due this early on. Am 5 + 1. Last m/c was at 4 + 3 so do feel happier I've got further. 1st m/c was at 11 weeks but feotus had died at about 7. 1st scan booked in when I'm 7 + 5 so hopefully I'll be reassured then. Blimey, I have rambled sorry.

DelGirl, I know what you are going through. After 2 missed miscarriages, I felt I was just waiting to miscarry again this time. Regular bleeding didnt help either as I was always assuming it was the start of a miscarriage. I remember bad cramps at 12 wks and was absolutely convinced I was losing the baby again, it was a horrific time. Statistically you are much more likely to succeed after a miscarriage than to miscarry again but I know statistics can be of little comfort sometimes. Have you been to the EPU at Bournemouth? They are absolutely lovely there and saw me virtually weekly. I needed to get an initial referral from my gp and then I could ring the EPU direct after that and they always saw me on the same day when I was worried (maybe because of bleeding or cramping or just plain nerves).

If you want to meet up for a coffee/chat, email me [email protected] .

DelGirl · 19/08/2004 19:29

thanks bunny2, it would be nice to meet up for a chat and a coffee. I went to the hospital last week as had to collect a prescription and called in on the unit as I'd had a smudge and I mean the tiniest smudge of old blood on Thursday night. It was enough to send me into a blind panic and I was really upset but there was nothing more and so felt better as it was prob an implantation bleed, which can only be a good thing. I'd had loads of twinges too. They said that if I have anymore I can go for a scan at 6 weeks and i'm really tempted but I don't want to lie and I don't think they'd scan me if I haven't bled. I just have to be patient and wait another 2 and a half weeks for my scheduled scan. After reading your post do you think it would be worth me ringing the EPU anyway, they are really friendly I know. thanks bunny

bunny2 · 19/08/2004 19:33

email me re coffee

Yes, you could try the EPU directly. They are there to provide support to women in early pregnancy so dont feel bad about it. But ... if you can get your gp to refer you, then they will definately see you and once they have your records you can use them right up to 18 weeks. If your gp is understanding, explain about the miscarriage and your fears and ask for a referral, mine did right away. Good luck.

bunny2 · 19/08/2004 19:34

re the 6 wk scan - go for it - I had them at least once a fortnight and they gave me lots of reassurance.

DelGirl · 19/08/2004 19:36

I have a really good GP and am seeing a midwife on the 1st. The EPU may have my notes do you think as my last m/c was at the end of APril and i've had my fertility treatment there. Maybe i'll just ring them at 6 weeks and see what they say. Roll on next weds.

Quackers · 24/08/2004 20:46

Congrats Delgirl, dleighted for you!
How are my friends over here doing?? Bunny, time is flying! Well for me anyway. Has baby been giving you some good kicks! Hana, how ae you?

DelGirl · 26/08/2004 18:39

Thanks Quacks. I've decided to try and wait until the 6th to have my scan. Only another
11 days to go. It feels like a lifetime!

nellyk · 27/08/2004 07:33

dear DelGirl, I am about 8 weeks and reading your success about getting an NHS scan has inspired me, I'm going to ring the EPU after the bank hols and if no joy will try another doctor at my GPs. Had vaguely thought about a private scan but it was going to be about £200 so couldn't really justify it. Good luck for the 6th!

gothicmama · 27/08/2004 07:37

Delgirl congrats - I would have a 6 week scan if it would put your mind at rest - When I was pg I lived for the scans I had especially in the first 16 weeks - I hope all goes well for you - Bunny2 How are you - Hope you are well

gingernut · 27/08/2004 09:15

Delgirl - congratulations! I'm keeping everything crossed for you. The early scans are great, although you still don't stop worrying of course.

nellyk, congratulations to you too. I tried to get an NHS scan but it was going to be a bit difficult (GP reluctant to refer me) so we paid to go privately. Had one at about 8.5 weeks at a BUPA hospital and it cost £95. £200 is a bit much I agree (especially since they only take a few minutes!). I'm just a bit surpirsed at the price you have been quoted.

hana · 27/08/2004 17:05

it's been a while for us all - hope the quietness is all a good sign that things are all going well! I am about 23 weeks pregnant now......still not completely enjoying things and worry about everything the latest being a holiday we have planned in the next 2 weeks and flying for 4 hours. Things still on for a Christmas baby......!
Delgirl and Nellyk...hope time goes quickly for you before your scans. Lots and lots of luck
hana

nellyk · 01/09/2004 12:00

gingernut - I have to admit the £200 price tag was for nuchal fold scan and blood test. I spoke briefly to m/w today and she said I could have a normal dating scan at my hospital booking appointment - I just have to ask?? I will speak properly to her next week.

hana - good luck with the rest of the p/g. With dd1 once I got past around the stage you're at, I began to relax more thinking if for some reason she had to be born early at least she would have a chance in an incubator xxxx
