Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

Oh my goodness cmm, you must be shattered! Ewan morning nap is walking on the way to school and back, then really play until between 11 and 12 when he then has a big sleep in his cot, in a dark room and he sends himself off to sleep. Then he sleeps till about 2 /3ish and we pick the girls up from school. Then he has a really good play again and has a nap about 5 while we have dinner. Then we play again, bath, story, milk, bed! Every night!! And he settles himself. Then I feed before I go to bed between 9 and 10 and he'll sleep till 2 /3ish. Then goes till morning and even though he wakes, he's not ready for a feed till about 8!
It sounds like ted is using you for a pacifier! Does he not have a dummy? You need to break his cycle. Your not being mean, in fact quite the opposite! Get him into a brilliant sleeping pattern so you both get sleep and play harder in the day! Have you taken him swimming yet? I took Ewan for the first time at the weekend and he loved it but boy, I knocked him out!!! Instead of going for walks where they nap alot in the day, stay and play at home, really tire him out! And big nap in his cot! Would you not try a bottle last thing at night and get hubby to do it? So he gets used to someone else and fills him up so when he's keeps waking, you know he doesn't need feeding! Or use a dummy! Babies can run circles around you and are very good at it! Stick to your guns or it will get worse! When are you going to start weaning? I'm not entirely sure that that will help as it sounds like its habit in waking rather than being hungry! Have you spoke to your health visitor? Hope you work something out soon!!! X x x

cmm · 15/11/2011 22:59

Thanks cn, some good advice. He used to sleep so well until around 14 or so weeks think it was. Spoke to my friend who is hv and she said to try weaning in a couple I'd weeks also to try sippy cup to encourage drinks away from breast too. Said about waking him after a feed if he falls asleep and trying to get phil to settle him. Also maybe bring his bedtime fwd too. Did the earlier bedtime tonight: same routine. Then put in sleeping bag and in cot in our room now, took him 2.5 hours to go to sleep! Most of the time did pick up put down method but caved into feed a couple of times but didn't let him sleep. Trying to stay focused. Must get sleep, laid in bed and he's sleeping but stirring too! X

You'll get there, hopefully it's short lived!!!

cmm · 17/11/2011 00:11

Well...caved in and given dummy!!!! Just felt he was so settled during the day and didn't want him to be unsettled and searching for it in a day aswell...but thought the lack of sleep negated a try with it night time only! So, he isn't keen in it, keeps spitting out but think a distraction from my boob! He took slightly less time to go off tonight, day 2 of going down awake! Has then eventually slept 8 till 1130,have let him have a big feed then put down awake, he has cried but not as bad, kept trying dummy, not keen but then he's settled on own thumb and fallen asleep! So, could this be him learning to resettle himself! Will keep plodding on with it. I'm full of cold though.
How are you two? Xx

cmm · 17/11/2011 09:20

Success! Slept three hours each time and less difficult to settle, dummy just distracted I think but he didn't use it much. Maybe the putting him down awake starting to pay off. It's hours before he'll go off in the evening but maybe it's helping him to self settle at other times. Will keep you updated. Absolutely full of cold and feel so rough. Think I am going to have to lie on sofa a lot. Let me know how you both are x

YAY!!!!!!!! Well done!! A dummy is not such a bad thing! I was determined mine wasn't going to have one and if I didn't, they would be the same as ted! Ewan wouldn't settle without one! And he doesn't use it much once they learn to settle themselves, just a few minutes before sleep! Keep going with it and you'll be sleeping in no time!

Coppernoddle · 17/11/2011 09:39

Even better if they find there thumb as you don't have to get up in the middle of the night to put it in!!!

deo357 · 17/11/2011 20:54

hi girls, sorry not been on been in living hell with building work , stuff everywhere , eating out & on the floor (quite nice!) & 2 boys birthdays in 1 week ! anyhow, nearing the end now, lounge is mahoosive, 50 inch telly (which i HATE) arrived today & i think our sofas r massive too. CN your routine is just perfect. but u must be giving him too much in night if he isnt hungry til 8, i would reduce it ? & good on ya CNN, its working & he will sort himself . all of mine have had dummy, ive always said dummy is better than thumb as u can take it away & I always have too. some babies r sucky & need it. Stanley been mucking me about a bit at night, put him down at 10.30 awake & swaddled and he goes off by himself , he is now waking 1.45 feeding then at 4.30, so last night i fobbed him off with dummy til 2.30 & when he woke at 4.30 i fobbed him again til 6. he does keep spitting dummy out to so not really sleeping. just to try and move timings really. he doesnt love the dummy either cnn but it helps at times like that & when hes in his car seat & we do the school run & he is hungry or wants a cuddle. Today he has been awake the most ever & happy. so i wonder what tonight will bring?? things could really turn around for u now cnn, think of that sleep!!! look forward to your updates on the routines. cant wait to take stanley swimming, but he goes off baths after 5 mins now & goes purple screaming !! little while yet i think !!!

Coppernoddle · 20/11/2011 12:06

Deo, sounds like he's having a growth spurt! Ewan nosy went through about a week of not being hungry at 8 and now downs his milk! I'm not fussed about the 2am feed, it's fast and keeps me used to waking in the night! If he slept through and then starting waking again, I'd be hammered!! Not long till your lovely new living room will be completed! Just in time for Christmas decs! It will be lovely!
Poor Ewan has has croup, sore throat and very swollen tonsils this week! He's been poorly boy! On antibiotics and the other night we were in hospital due to coughing fits were he couldn't catch his breath bless him so they gave him some steroids and he's not coughed since!! But still very sore throat. Me and ed went to a friends house last night and had to come home quickly at ten as Ewan was beside himself, he's so into me! Especially when he's ill! I've never had that with the girls, boys are definitely mummy's boys! Settled straight away and fed him, but has been super clingy this morning too. Although I had a lie in this morning due to feeling shite! Proper nasty cold, my head feels ten tone!
Cmm, hope your doing well with the dummy!
Best get dressed then being midday, or may go back to bed!

cmm · 20/11/2011 19:04

Oh poor little Ewan, so awful to see them poorly. Know what you mean re boys. My little girl never fed as much! Although she cried more! Taken little girl for ski lesson today! She loved it. I didn't go on slope, too unfit yet! Also full of cold. Ted was getting better each night till past night, day six, then back to night one. Also now won't take dummy! Might try another type!!! Going to have to stay true to routine as really need him to settle. He so good during the day!
Deo hope you're ok? X

Cmm, my girls love to ski!! Dd2 learnt at 2 1/2! And is now a parallel skier at the age of 4!!! Defo do it while there young! I'm determined to get on my ski's after Christmas! Rotated pelvis or not! No pain no gain! Although kep running and it bloody hurts! And is making my knee hurt now too!
I tried all the dummies with Ewan and the only one he takes are the cherry ones! He lives them and are big enough to stay in his mouth! Keep percerverance with it, a dummy can take time!

deo357 · 20/11/2011 20:39

how lovely skiing ! i cant ski never tried. but would love to take kids on ski hols so they can learn, im not fussed, happy to learn !!! stanley has been the most miserable ever today, cant work out whats wrong & he hasnt been awake all day, just constant moaning. bless. im hoping for an ok night !!! the rest of my week was ok with him at night. he is sleeeping a lot more than routine . stanley always spends last part of the night in bed with me, ive never slept with my kids but iim breaking all the rules, do u guys do it ? poor ewan, u must be worried, with everything else thats gone on too . what a pain.cmm - mine have always liked avent dummies, & stanley has 1 he likes it better than the other shape ones so i will get some more. pondering dropping tea time feed as he feeds from 4.30 ish til 6.30 ish almost non stop with moaning in between, milk suppy mustbe low & its a busy time of day 4 me, but then i chicken out !! what to do

Coppernoddle · 21/11/2011 10:50

Deo, give it at least another week to see if things settle down, if not then maybe introduce a bottle at that time. It maybe a short phase, and you don't want to upset your feeding pattern yet! But have to say, hubby gave Ewan some baby cereal last night, he gobbled it down and was the happiest chappy, and slept amazing ! Which is really helpful as I'm proper poorly today! :( every time I move my head I chuck! My head is spinning and stuffy! I either have sinus infection or inner ear infection?, to top it off, something happened to my cyst last night and was in agony! Tote point where I had some of eds morphine! So, I'm in bed, hubby off work again, doctors coming out to me soon! 2011 has not been our year!
Deo, you'll love skiing! If you want any tips on how to plan a skiing holiday, I'm very good at that! Especially for big groups!
Oh, I've put my pregnancy photos on my Facebook page, there amazing! Go peep!!! Charlotte's an amazing photographer!
Cmm, I'll try and put the link on here so you can see them too from here blog, I'm so proud of them! Hope teds doing well! Keep us informed about the dummy! How are you feeling now? Any better?

Coppernoddle · 21/11/2011 13:58

I have laberynthitus!,, lucky me!

cmm · 22/11/2011 12:12

Cn oh you poor thing, my sis has had that. Keep feeling dizzy on off myself they thought bit of vertigo but on antibiotics for sinuses now!
Looked on your web link, oh my how utterly beautiful you all look! Your children are so gorgeous too! Can promise you I didn't look like that!!!! I was size of house, we still not that great! Usually 10/12. C section tummy still rubbish too!!!!!! How is yours?
Ted still won't take dummy! Tried the cherry and other one deo uses!!!!! Sometimes can't get it in now!!!! He's not that great still going down, had that one good night! But will keep perservering!
How are you today? X

Coppernoddle · 23/11/2011 11:02

Dizzy!!! One minute I feel fine then the next, whoosh! Off we go again, makes me chuck!! It's definitely getting better though as couldn't get out of bed Monday! It's not infected yet but antibiotics on standby!
I love my pics! So proud of them! Thank you cmm! It was agony perching on my bed like that with my hips, no pain no gain! My tummy is flabby and numb! I'm determined to get back to normality but with everything going on at the mo, no chance! Although I did try! As soon as I'm better, running again! Although ave to take it easy my physio said or I'll make it worse!
Shame about the dummy although keep going with it! Have you tried these sleep mobiles that play music and lights that strap to the side of the cot? Have you started feeding him yet? I'm all out of suggestions! Maybe speak to your doctor as he might get silent reflux that happens at night when you lie him down? A simple ant acid would sort it out!

Well, although being house ridden,I've been productive! Done heaps of online shopping! Nearly all my Christmas presents are done!

deo357 · 23/11/2011 13:06

deo357 · 23/11/2011 15:35

Very true cn I makes u forget it all . Went dog walking across the fields with s this am
And he had a little burnt face for the rest of the day . Any ideas as u live in a cold part of the world !!!!Grin

Coppernoddle · 23/11/2011 20:55

We're you using your rap? I find it easy to tuck little ew drops face away from the wind! You just need to shelter it! You can get ski cream for very cold days that has wind chill factor in it, it's very thick! But that's extreme! I'll be using it when we go in the new year though with ewan! But you are best just to cover him up, use a muslin cloth if you have nothing else to had, or put your weather shield on! I was just looking on the snow and rock website for all in ones for Ewan and there's some lovely ones that would suit Stanley too, it's a bear looking one and it has the fold over flaps for the hands and feet so no gloves and boots that don't stay on! And it was only £27 which is cheaper than mothercare! But still shop around, a good snow suit will tighten round there face too stopping alot of the wind going down the back and good falling off!, I've got an amazing foot muff for the pushchair and got it off eBay last year, it was a shop and they sold loads, I'll see if there selling them this year! They were Austrian? But went down to -30 which pisses all over the ones you get in the uk! Last year when I was childminding pre pregnancy, even the coldest of days, the little ones never needed coats! They were ace, and had a zip out bottom for muddy Wellies!

Coppernoddle · 23/11/2011 20:56

I live 200 miles away............in the same country love!!!!!!!!! Grin

Coppernoddle · 23/11/2011 21:01
