Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

cmm · 07/06/2011 00:12

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

Noooo not a cleft plalette, that's different. I will talk 2 doc about it. Been at doc with him today as he is a bit jaundice, not too bad, got 2 go back in am. Had him weighed 6.7 ! So done well again

Coppernoddle · 03/11/2011 17:49

I wasn't sure what they call it! But knew it was something to do with the palette! He's growing well!! And the jaundice is very common for pre term babies! They have extra oxygen in their blood ready for early delivery just in case and as they get closer to term in goes down! I'm sure you'll be fine, you may have to have uv treatment whatever it's called!! When's your appointment?

cmm · 03/11/2011 23:13

Hi there, so sorry to hear Stanley isn't too well, hope his appointment goes ok bless him. The two prem babies I know have both been very sicky babies but are ok now, one of them was born and went to 1lb 1oz, she was in hospital for such a long time but is now ok but I do remember them always being very sick.
How are you cn? Ewan sounds to piling weight go, that's great too!
Ted is being weighed tomorrrow, he's really chunking up!!! Day 4 of evening routine although yesterday was later as sisters birthday. Evenings better but nights awful. Waking every 40 mins to 1 hour! Taking ages to go back off. However tonight has been asleep a couple of hours now. Will keep you posted xx

OP posts:
cmm · 04/11/2011 09:03

Well, slept for about 4.5 hours then feed, 2 hours then feed one hour, still took a while to go off but better than previous night. Still crackered but feel more positive getting a routine for evening! X

OP posts:
Coppernoddle · 04/11/2011 11:20

Wow, 4.5hours! Well done! Keep persevering cmm! They get so used to waking so often, he's not getting a good night sleep either! Have you tried a dummy? Maybe it's time you started weaning! Just take it slow, startwithbaby porridge! I had the doctors yesturday about Ewan and his reflux and she said when heh its 4 months to wean him! It's much better than chucking up all of his milk! You have to think of the greater good! What's good for ted? Leaving him till 6 months or helping him sleep well at night with routine, more playful hours in the day! Speak to your health visitor as I'm sure they run sleep therapy classes. Give it a go, for your own sanity!
Ewan's definitely settling on this comfort milk! He goes down at 7, feeds at 9.30 then goes till 2 then sleeps again till 7 but doesnt feed till 7.30! Brilliant but much needed as I'm exhausted and have now got a stinking cold!

deo357 · 04/11/2011 13:24

making progress cmm. i would personally recommend gina ford with a bucket of salt. u dont need to b as stict as she says but follow the skeleton of her routines. its always worked 4 me with my 6.& with have always slept thru the night between 8-10 weeks. (stanley is the exception!!!!!!!!!!)
doc not too worried about stanley at mo, gonna keep an eye on him, he is back 2 onca a night now. & he has been chucking thru his mouth last few days so im relaxing about that. xxx

deo357 · 05/11/2011 10:47

U have been quiet recently cn I feel, r u ok with all your dramas ? We all fireworkingtonight?? We r but rain expected. Boo . Having major structural work don't in our lounge / hall for next few weeks. Hell ! But the result is a massive lounge !!

Coppernoddle · 06/11/2011 09:30

Glad Stanley is settling down! I have been a little quiet, I've not had any time to myself! Starting to really take its toll now!got a stinking cold and was chucking up last night, but we did make it to a bonfire last night and Ewan loved it, never even blinked to the bangs which is impossible to do!!!! I'm trying not to dwell on things as I know it just gets me really down! Eds no better and still in pain but wants to try and go to work next week which will be very interesting! Ewan's being such a good boy on his new milk and has dropped one of his feeds, first one in the morning but need to transfer that to the middle of the night feed so I'm going to cut down the middle of the night feed slowly so he's then hungry in the morning! I think that's a good plan, we'll see!
Deo, it will all be worth it with all this construction! I'd love a massive lounge! Ours is a good size but we have to put our dining table in it! Can't wait till our extension plans start!
Well, back to the grind stone! It's not going to do itself!

Cmm, hope your doing well! Hope the routine is working for you!

deo357 · 06/11/2011 18:00

U will laugh girls , had a large baileys when got back from fireworks . Then took Stanley up 10.30pm feed & bed , next thing I know I wake up to hubby calling me. & shaking me . Stanley was screaming & I'd passed out asleep !!! I can only think it was my 1 glass of baileys !!! I haven't drunk anything 4 soooo long . I didn't hear him or hubby . He thought I was dead !!!!!!!

Coppernoddle · 07/11/2011 13:38

Hahahahaha!!! Lightweight!!! Bet it scared the life out of hubby!poor thing!

cmm · 07/11/2011 21:56

Oh dear!!! Bet the baileys tasted good though!!!
Routine up and down. Sticking by the bedtime thing, some nights get a 3-4 hour stretch, other times only an hour at a time! So up and down! At least sticking by it. As we speak we have been up and down since eight!!!! Will have to see and just perservere! X

OP posts:
Coppernoddle · 09/11/2011 11:23

I would really speak to your health visitor! It shouldn't take as long as this! Well done for sticking to it! Does he suffer from reflux? It could be silent reflux when you lie him down!

Coppernoddle · 09/11/2011 11:28

He definitely shouldn't be waking every hour now! Is he ready for weaning? I would maybe think about starting which if he does have reflux, that will sort that out too! You must be shattered!!!

deo357 · 10/11/2011 13:21

I keep replying & it keeps losing it. Greer. Hmm curious cmm. Is there anything wrong with him when he wakes? Is he hungry, maybe he needs some formula ? Or like u say cn. Well day 4. Of gina &stanley did 6.5 hours last night ! So good, although I woke to shove him!!!! Making sure he's ok. Had him weighed 7lb today. Chaos at home with building works too, so much mess. Can't believe ed still not better cn, poor thing, u should sue them reckon . Like u said no sex either :-(

Coppernoddle · 10/11/2011 14:48

Wow, 6.5hours!! Even Ewan's never done that!!!
No eds got another scan on Friday and see's the consultant on Monday! I'm going to kick some ass!!!
I couldn't imagine kids and baby and building work!!! How long will it take! At least you can start decorating in your head, might make you feel better!!
Stanley is doing so well with his feeding! 7lb! He's now at Ewan's birthweight! 7.2 he was! Bet it feels like he's still so tiny!
Ewan's becoming a proper mummy's boy!! He does not like it at all if I put him down or leave the room! As for someone else cuddling him, well, it's the end of the world! I'm not used to this! The girls were so different! I see what they mean by boys are more clingy but boy, he melts my heart! Such a good boy! He's starting to grab for me and hold his arms up when he wants me, he's so clever! And weve nearly cracked the raspberry blowing! He's really co ordinations his hands now, grabbing at things and wanting to hold things! He's so exiting!!!
Cmm, hope it's going well for you, and I hope you've managed to talk to your health visitor or doctor! X x x

deo357 · 10/11/2011 15:34

Wow can't wait for Stanley to do those things . Spoke to hv today & he is classed as 2 week old so no smiling for a month yet . He seems big 2 me but everyone says he is tiny . S melts my heart too boys r mummies boys !!!! S also sleeps all eve now in my routine & I wake him @ ten pm properly .kick ass with the docs xxxx

Coppernoddle · 11/11/2011 11:43

You forget they have to catch up when there born early! I think he's still tiny by the photos but you've seen him since very tiny! And the changes he's gone through are massive! He looks like a gorgeous plump little baby now! It's so lovely when they start smiling! I'm loving Ewan at the minute and all the smiles, he's adorable!! And very much mummy's!!! He's like a drug, you need a little break as I'm shattered but the thought of someone else looking after him does not feel comfortable with me! We're having a night off middle of December for eds Christmas do, already feeling nervous about it! But really looking forward to it!
Eds scan is today, consultant on Monday so I'm not going today! Monday we kick ass! But to be honest, he's started feeling much better, definitely not as painful and is very very very slightly slightly smaller but not a massive difference!
So deo, how do you do it? The sleeping through the night? I feed at nine, ten and I'm up again then at 2! Then he's a early riser at 6! Would love to drop that middle of the night feed! But might not happen as he gets closer to start weaning!

deo357 · 12/11/2011 17:10

I will mail u the routine for his age . Is he 18 weeks ?

cmm · 12/11/2011 23:45

Hi girls
Cn so glad things might be little better with hubby. So hope app goes ok.
Deo - be interested to hear routine too.
Ted is so content in the day, even been to the Indian with us at five tonight! He's just still rubbish during the night but piling on weight. He has out 2lb on in four weeks! Apparently that's great for 20 weeks as they often dip then whether breast or bottle. He's still in bedtime routine and slept since 830 tonight, now 1142. He seems to then wake around 12, 2 then around 3 abs feeds then nearly till 6! Just wakes each time you put him back after feed. I just feel I havent the energy to work at it at the moment after all that's been going on, keep wondering whether to deal with it after weaning if sleep still bad then. Still, be interested to hear your ideas anyway. Also got millpond book out of library as best friend swore by that too. Xx

Oh deo, that would be wonderful!!! Ewan's 15 weeks tomorrow.
Cmm, think its definitely time you wean but also have you tried putting him to bed on his tummy? Ewan's absolutely utterly detests sleeping on his back and will only nap at the best of times on his back! I prop him up and he either sleeps on his side and when I come to him later, he's rolled onto his tummy and is very content like that! I watch him do it to! I put him on his side, he gives me a big smile, I put his dummy in, go out, and he waits till I've left and straight onto his tummy! Little monkey! But loves it! Might be worth a try! Both my girls slept on their tummies and still do now, so do I! And trust me, I tried the whole, never put them to sleep on their tummies!
I'm very curious into how this milk is going to work deo, he loves his 2am bottle! But would love to drop it!
Curry out cmm! How lovely not to cook!

deo357 · 13/11/2011 21:13

ok girls will type up and send to u tomorrow had a manic day/weekend with ds1 birthday outing parties rememberance parade shit all overthe house & dust etc etc etc. day at home tomorrow so i will sit down & decode gina for u, u need to know to take it with a bucket of salt cause she tells u when to eat etc !!! which just isnt reality, but its always worked for me. obviously stanley isnt going thruthe night as she says they have to be at least 9lb. but his daytime routine even in a week is becomig more sturctured even though ive been out sooo much cause of building work i have kept sleep times etc on my radar & tried to stick with them. tea time can be a bit haywire & always is as your milk supply is low and it is babys cranky time (and mums & other kids!) stanley is now sleeping all evening & i sort of miss cuddling up on the sofa all eve with him. im so manic with house stuff at mo but plastering being done tue, then decorating then xmas tree up !!!! stanley sleeps on his side actually or back, only on his belly when laying on me . i am still swaddling him at night too areu guys or are u using sleeping bags yet? stanley still not stuck on dummy, especially at night he wont take it if i try to fob him off with it to eek out food time in am . chat tomorrow. breast/bottle routine is slightly different x

deo357 · 14/11/2011 10:34

right: 3-4mth routine . feed times 7am, 11am, 2.15pm, 6.15pm, 10.30pm
4.15 offer cooled boiled water

nap 9-9.45, 12 - 2.15 max daily sleep 3hours

so, depending on how sleepy your baby is u may haveto give an extra nap in the afternoon at 5 ish. babe should b in a dark room 4 naps too so they sleep soundly. bath about 5.45 , 6.15 feed should b 7-8 0z & 10.30 6oz. if he wakes before 5am give cooled boiled water. if after, full feed, then top up at 7/7.30am. the main aim of the game is most feeds between 7am-11pm. it may take a few days to get the timing in place. dont stress yourself if he is having food early etc, just try your best. regards to ewan & his night feed, i would start cutting it backnot cold turkey !!!

cmm - your feed times r the same, but give 2 boobs at 6.15 & 10 ish and until u wean ted off night feed only 1 boob in night. or cooled boiled water before 5am & boob if wakes after.she suggests if babe is still waking in night, try the coiled boiled water even if boob fed and ENSURE u start the day at 7am sharp & eventually he will start to have most food in day. if he is over 14lb she suggests weaning .
hope that helps????? any questons let me know, good luck

Coppernoddle · 14/11/2011 20:51

Deo, you sound completely run off your feet! A woman with a mission!!! Won't be long and you'll have you newly decorated living room and all those lovely Christmas decorations to go with it!!
Dont know whether that routine would work for us, and to be honest, I'm liking the routine we're in! Ewan feeds alot more in the day than that, but because of the reflux there's no chance he would have a 7 ounce bottle! The more you give him, the more comes out! He's on 6 once tops in the day and night only 5, but still love that middle night feed just me and him and it's really quick now! I would never go cold turkey on a feed, that's just asking for trouble! I think he needs it, due to the amount he's sick in the day, he's obviously not getting enough in the day! Stanley's doing really well! Well done you!
Ewan hates the sleeping bags but when it gets colder,he's going to have to start wearing them! We just use his blankets. Ewan's also hated being swaddled, we did it a few times and worked a couple but then got more stressed with it! He likes to sprawl!

Ed has his consultant app today, the hematoma has shrunk slighted so there not going to operate as this could make home bed ridden again and he's started to feel better and do stuff again, so we'd rather let his body cope with it! It's reduced to 100ml now and there going to check again in 4 weeks, if nothing then, then they'll possibly operate! If it hadn't reduced today they would of took it out this week but that would be a big operation and risk of infection is high! So, hopefully we start to see more results! This weekend we've defo turned a corner as eds up and helping with some jobs again! And can actually feed Ewan too! Obviously NOT the night feeds!!!

Got physio tomorrow! After that run my pelvis has been agony! Hopefully my physio can shed some light into why!!

cmm · 14/11/2011 21:15

Hi girls
Deo, thanks for your message. Will see of I can adopt some of it. Up until a couple of data ago would have said fed loads but seems to be pulling off interested in other things! On evening though he feeds but then wakes and gets so upset till i put to boob again, I feel he's boob dependent but know he's my last and feel I can't bear him upset and keep feeling like need to weather it! But by middle of night am shattered. He goes to bed later than that so might try earlier. He is up around seven and mostly naps 9 ish then late morning but could try harder. Do naps need to be at home then?
Cn so pleased ed has turned a corner what a horrid time. Re hips, well done on attempting run! I have walked lots recently trying to shift weight, then pelvis and sacro joints have been horribly painful again. Had to pull back again . It's always bad in the middle of the night but during day had improved but think the excessive walking has taken it worse, just going to have to do walks prob every other day rather than each day for a while.
Had mil's care meeting today with psychiatry and social services. Went quite well but mil got upset after but seems to have forgotten what happened a few hours later do improved as the day went on. Must be so hard for her.
Well ted asleep again, just going to get a drink and prob bsck to bed! Xx

cmm · 15/11/2011 03:23

Well, it's now 3.19 am, been mostly awake since 1.30 With him. He just wakes as soon as off breast. He flings his arms and legs around too! He slept 9 till midnight ish, despite in bed at 730 after bath etc, then slept 1220 till 1.30 and now only just gone off properly.
Deo/Cn - does your routine involve being awake when you put him down for naps?
Am soooo tired x
