Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

Hi girls
Sorry long time no speak! Been lots going on!

Just fed 'ted', it's 4.11am, his sleep is still erratic but guess guess he's still young! He just started so well uptil about three weeks ago! Still hardly sleeps at all evening then goes to bed with us then up and down!

Cn poor hubby I am so so sorry, he must be so uncomfy and unhappy. He'll be off work top right? Glad the girls are on the mend though.
Deo sorry your children seem poorly, bless them. But wow well done you and Stanley!!

Had difficult week with mil poor thing?!!! Included her trying to take bandage off hand each day, on number six bandage! Also age took dog to drs. Tied up outside. Forgot and so dog warden called. She was returned to mil! Gp called us so got cpn involved. Uti seems to be working through sp hoping she picks up. We're away again this weekend till weds. Feel bad going but got lots of people calling in. Going to Northumberland in Moho for part of half term.

Feeling bit brighter just tired and stressed with mil too bless her.

Will keep in touch on iPhone!!! Xxx

Now I have 4 chucking & I feel v sick & bad tummy . How will I go feeding Stanley with this & not being able 2 eat ???

cmm · 21/10/2011 12:12

Yes, think will try routine again when back!
Poor you and the boys, do hope you feel better soon. Not sure what happens with d&v and feeding, is it like being preg, te baby takes from you still? Guess when in Africa they still feed so maybe? Or does their milk reduce? Try looking at the web? Picking little one up from school soon. So much to pack, how so you manage with 8 of you!!! X

deo357 · 21/10/2011 14:55

I start packing 2 weeks before we go away ! Yes I'll look it up , hopefully Stanley won't get it but not eaten a thing today oh it's all against me feeding him isn't it . 1 hurdle after another . I shed blood sweat & tears 4 this boy . It will go to plan SadSmile

deo357 · 22/10/2011 16:06

We r all recovered ! Phew . Hope u guys all ok x

Coppernoddle · 22/10/2011 20:52

OH brilliant deo!!! No more sick!!
Cmm, poor mil! So sad! Hopefully all this won't rob you of all the good memories you have of her, it's so hard, hubby's grandma has absolutely no idea who we are anymore! Very stressful for you at this time x x hope you have a lovely time away, and I totally agree with deo, routine routine routine!! For your and his sake! It won't take you long but you have to be so strict with doing it, it's take a little time but start with a bath, then feed, then to bed! Even if you have to rock him for and hour, stay in the room and keep putting him down, he'll get the picture! Then once you've cracked it you'll get time back for you and hubby, maybe even a night out without him! But good sleep at night means more play in the day and lovely smiles, then put him down for good naps in his cot so he gets used to it. Two a day, then same at night. Fingers crossed for you x x

Well, girls are all ok, poor Ewan was sick last night and choked!!!! By the time I got to him he was holding his breath in absolute panic, and after turning him very quickly onto his side banging his back, he couldnt catch his breath and was frothing at the mouth, he was besides himself crying and trying to breath! Scared the life out of me! So he slept next to me all night on my dressing gown, poor little soul!
Hubby a little bit better today so we stopped the morphine and he's now having withdrawal symptoms, so we've stopped it! Hopefully we've turned a corner but docs says he'll be on his back for at least another week and this whole thing can take at least 6 weeks! Poor hubby! Going to have black bollocks for Christmas!! Grin

Deo, you still going on your outing over half term?

deo357 · 22/10/2011 22:42

I agree cn with all your routine stuff , I'm a routine freak . Bit early 4 Stanley yet though .
When Ewan choked have u ever tried blowing in there face, when they hold their breath it makes them breathe . My ds2 used 2 hold his breath in pain & pass out at least once a week. Your hubby is such a trooper , v impressed Wink. Hope he picks up soon. Not sure about outing ?? My tesco vouchers haven't arrived yet so I'll c how the week goes . Xxx

Coppernoddle · 25/10/2011 06:59

Hi all!
Deo, he didn't hold his breath in pain or anything, his airways were cocked with sick and couldnt get it out to breath bless him! But he's fine now thank goodness, and glad your all ok too!
Hubby still in pain on morphine bed ridden! Sick of emptying pee jugs!!! Poor hubby's really ad enough now!
I don't think we're going anywhere too deo, can't leave hubby as needs 24 hour care! Although I did take the girls into town yesturday for two hours! Gave hubby drugs and a wee before we left and left him a packed lunch and his laptop so he could do his work! Hey presto!
Cmm, how are you getting on! Enjoying half term? Hope your having a lovely trip x x

deo357 · 25/10/2011 09:58

Oh I thought he held his breath in upset/panic . Bless him . Glad u
Got out yest though . All well again here . The week will b over in a flash . Chat later x

Coppernoddle · 25/10/2011 20:28

Can't wait till half terms over! The girls was off the week before too due to illness and hubby being at home! I love hem at home but boy do I need a break!

deo357 · 26/10/2011 17:17

dont blame u there. u must b hanging. hubby has come down with the bug today, but was still at work & now in bed. enjoying the hols but boys want 2 do more & i cant b bothered. im happy pottering!!! bad night last night with stanley he kept having all the milk come thru his nose & was v mucussy so i coulnt sleep.

Coppernoddle · 27/10/2011 02:07

Poor Stanley and hubby!! There just like us, not allowed to be ill! Hope he feels better soon x
I live for pottering, it just comes naturally! Not many days left though!
Poor hubby back in hospital, the registra saw him and sad "oh this is bad! One of the worst I've seen!" he can't believe it was left to get like this and there going to ultra sound him in the morn to hopefully take it out. It if too wrapped up in tissue and nerves, he'll just have to sit it out! Which can take months!!

Enjoy your pottering deo!

deo357 · 27/10/2011 21:00

Oh no poor hubby , I hope he gets it sorted . Been to Westfield shopping today . Pooped now ! Stanley is 6lb 2 today that 9oz in a week again !!! Omg how clever am I !!!

Coppernoddle · 27/10/2011 21:09

That's brilliant!!!! How's the healing coming along?

cmm · 27/10/2011 21:53

hi girls
so sorry not been in touch, been away and no or poor internet connection on phone at times then got home yest and mil not good, removed her own stitches in hand despite being told loads that they are out at the orthopedic appointment tomorrow!!!! Its been so frustrating. Had people including CPNs calling in over the time we were away though.

Enjoyed the break and feel a little less down for it. It was lovely being somewhere different. Went to Alnwick gardens and Castle (Harry Potter castle!) - both were amazing - so geared for kids activities too.

It's Ted's baptism this weekend so lots to get planned. Got my hair appointment tomorrow, then a massage and manicure on Saturday but then lots of bits and pieces to do for Sunday. Got about 70 people coming! Feel I couldn't of coped at all a couple of weeks ago so think I'm doing better which is good!
Agree about Ted and the routine, so difficult as started to go with the cluster evening feeding for a long time as he seemed to sleep better but now the sleep isn't great, still feeding lots in the evening but also wide awake too. Never had this with my little girl as I got her into an evening routine and she slept 7-12 but then was awake practically all evening after that. That's the reason that I went with Ted's pattern to start with as he started going 10ish - 2/3 then from then till 5/6, then dropped the middle of night feed and was going 10/11 - 5/6 - fantastic! But for the past 3 weeks or so has been anything and everything. When away some nights was waking each hour for ages - think getting hungrier but don't want to wean him till nearer to the six months. Also can't do the control crying at this age - personal choice I know. Any ideas from you experiences mummies?!
Well, so so pleased on stanley's growth - you must be so proud!!!!! How are you feeling too?
Cn - poor hubby - just can't imagine. Keep us posted. Have to say, thought twice about telling my hubby as he won't want it done now!!!!!! How are your hips?
Agree about the half term! My little girl is sleeping at my mums tomorrow so that will be a little break for both of us!
Hope you're both ok, speak soon x

Gosh cmm seems like a nightmare with mil! But glad you had a lovely time away! And the Harry potter castle seems fab!! And your in for a busy weekend! But nice, enjoy yourself without getting too stressed, 70 people is alot to organise! You'll have so much fun!
Ref to the sleeping, is he sleeping lots in the day? Do you get out much and get fresh air? I find fresh air, as much as possible distinguishes a good nights sleep to a bad one! It really is just routine percerverance, what time do you put your little girl to bed? Do it at the same time! Maybe bath time which I feel helps at 6.30, bed by 7 with a story, I'm reading Ewan a story and he loves it! In a darkest room, preferably his room then down! This may take a week or two as you have to change his body clock around! Why don't instead of cluster feeding as he's obviously ready to wean, try a formula hungry baby milk as the last feed to help you into the routine. But do try this milk in the day first take sure he doesn't react to it or you'll have a hellish night! And, your getting him used to having a bottle, which also free's you up for night outs! Or express and put baby rice in it! Health visitors would recommend that over weaning early anyway! Or baby porridge. You need to fill him up on that after bath feed and it will start to change if you persevere with it!
The hips are awful! Getting more painful! I think all this running around with hubby and half term has not done them any good whatsoever!! Can't wait for the girls to be back to school! Although got a treat for them Saturday night! Going to take them to the last night of Matlock illuminations as there's a firework display too! They'll love it!

cmm · 28/10/2011 23:15

Hi
Thanks cn, think perseverance is the key, he does get fresh air walks and I don't mind feeding him loads more with breast. He has always cluster fed. I need to keep trying. Its just with mil it's been difficult, haven't said loads on here but we are really concerned about how she took her own stitches out and also seems more confused and vulnerable In relation to lots of things. We've got a social services assessment coming in and also another psychiatrist app so hoping she can get more support. It's such a difficult thing. Really hoping that they can offer support. We need to keep her safe and supported.
Christening Sunday will be lovely though. Teds looking very cute! How's Ewan?! X

OP posts:
Coppernoddle · 29/10/2011 02:23

Cmm, mil :(

Ewan's not nearly 16lb! Proper chunky monkey! Got lovely chunky thighs! He's a little it poorly at the minute bit of the sniffles! But doing really well! I'm looking forward to the girls going back so I can spend more time with him! I must admit, the chunkyness makes them look gorgeous! Such a smiler too! Have fun this weekend x x

deo357 · 30/10/2011 09:33

cmm hope the christening goes well today glad your are feeling more in control too.
CN - what a chunky boy !!! i see in your pics he is thumb sucking too. what age did he start thumb sucking by himself. stanley does it from time to time but when he is having a paddy he doesnt. I have tried the dummy but he isnt that keen on that either. sometimes he takes it sometimes he doesnt. never had a thumb sucker before!!

with regard to feeding cmm - im a gina ford woman. (not yet with stanley as he is too small) i would refer to to her feeding times. i would try and make him have more big feeds instead of cluster feeding. is he using it to pacify himself too? last feed of the day always 10/10.30pm as his awake time is tea time of day too rather than the eve. so u need to switch his clock around.
ive had a few bad night with stanley getting up 3 times this week. ahhhh not used to that !!!! at judo grading again today & halloween party 4 kids later xx

cmm · 31/10/2011 23:11

Hi there, christening was lovely, we all had such a great day. Party afterwards for us all too. Ted was so good! No tears, so content!
Thanks for advice deo. Never sure I can do really strict routines but have started tonight and made sure fed lots during day and then put him to bed 830 after bath, fed and put down awake with music, kept going up and down till he finally went off at 1030. Will report back!!!
How are you both? Xx

Coppernoddle · 01/11/2011 10:17

Well done cmm! Keep percevering, you'll have it in no time!
Deo, Ewan doesn't suck his thumb all the I've, he still uses his dummy alot! But both my girls are thumb suckers and is definitely better than having to get up 6 times a night to put the dummy in! Ewan was nearly 16lb last week and I'm off to weighing again so I'll update you!

Coppernoddle · 01/11/2011 13:29

He's stayed the same! He did shoot up last week and definitely calmed down this week so only put on an ounce! But still my chunky monkey!!

deo357 · 01/11/2011 21:20

ah my boy had his 1st jabs today, bless him. my friend in US on facebook has put on there today that docs are concerned that her babe throws up thru his nose. thats what stanley does & i keep telling people & no one really says anything. would u guys be worried. it never comes out his mouth??? had a couple of really bad nights with stanley, he is very snuffly at mo. fingers crossed tonight . so pleased yoour christening was good CMM. hows ed CN?

deo357 · 01/11/2011 21:23

dont forget cmm - that u need to fed ted at 10.00 / 10.30pm so even if he fed at 8.30. wake him to feed come what may , thats what gina says. so aim to feed 6ish pm then 10.30pm. work on those 2 timings for now

Coppernoddle · 02/11/2011 20:53

Deo, it sounds like Stanley has cleft pallet? My friend had it as her little girl did the same thing, but I'll check for defo! Dont think they operated but I'll check with her, but no, that doesn't seem right! Give your health visitor a ring or see your doc! Even if it was, I don't think they do much until the child is older anyway! Does he latch on ok? As long as he's drinking plenty and he's gaining weight which he obviously is and sounds like he's thriving, he'll be fine! Gosh, would they do the jabs at 8 weeks no matter what? Even if he was 7 weeks early? Seems harsh but I guess it has to be done! Ewan's got his second jab tomorrow! :(
Eds ok! He's working from home still and can potter a little, ie, get to the toilet and make a brew but he's still in pain and it keeps bleeding black blood! The hematoma doesn't seem to of gone down any. He saw his consultant Monday who was brilliant! He had no idea all this had happened! He asked who the heck had done it and knew who the guy was so didn't say anything! Then said, on the first day it was done and were admitted it should of been drained! And then when we was in again last week it should of been operated on but did agree that it would be a very tricky operation and risk of infection would be very high! So, he's got a scan next Friday and they'll take it from there! I'm hoping they take it out to be honest as I don't think his body could absorb it within a year! It's really taking its toll on our sex life! Not that it was great due to pp and c section but was starting to get it back again! Oh well!
As regards to the feeding, that's what I do too! No matter what time I feed (tonight was 7pm) I'm going to top him up in a sec before I go to bed so I get his big sleep, after that it's hit and miss!
I've put Ewan onto comfort milk on the advise of the health visitor! It's thicker for his reflux and slightly lacto free so I'm hoping he settles on it! So far it's made no difference apart from the last two nights we have an hour of screaming! He's been on it since yesturday lunch. So I'm going to give it to the end of the tub and if no joy, I'm going back to aptimal first and adding baby rice! I'm sick of changing his milk! He loves aptimal!
Deo, how's your scar healing now? Are you back upto health yet or not?
Cmm, hope your doing well and your winning with the routine thing! It will pay off, trust me! Ewan's already in a routine and were reaping the benefits now! But it's hard work to start off with! You'll get there!
Sweet dreams x x
