Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

Coppernoddle · 02/10/2011 08:22

What a lovely weekend were having!! You can tell were all enjoying it as no ones sat on here!!! Gorgeous weather! Were having snow in two weeks, which is crazy!
Going to visit my friends baby today, 4 days old! Bet ewan looks massive against him, he's so chunky now! He had jabs on Thursday, poor little thing had a right temperature! Very niggly and uncomfortable! Not looking forward to the next ones!
Hope everyones ok!

deo357 · 02/10/2011 10:42

Poor Ewan hope he's ok now. Yes we r all enjoying the last bit of sun,we had our 1st & last BBQ of the year yest ! Got my Xmas next cat thru so busy looking at snow boots 4 the boys ! I said after last year out with the wellies & in with warmer warmer snow boots .
I'm feeling like I need to book a holiday now.....sun......lovely......swimming.......flip flops .......ah

Coppernoddle · 03/10/2011 20:03

Well, that was a lovely weekend! And today's been lovely too! Time to put away the summer clothes now! Well, poor ewans reflux is getting worse and they put him on rinitadine which has I think made him worse! I think it's upsetting his tummy! I think I might stop it and see if that makes him any better! Poor little man, very limited contented periods when he's awake!

Deo, snow boots are the way forward for any winter! There's just as waterproof as wells if you get the rubber footed ones, but lovely and cosy! My girls live in their snow boots, try decathlon, there brilliant for cheap nice winter clothing!

Cmm, hope your doing well, and little Ted is growing nicely! Hope your feeling better!

I did a stupid thing a ran home with ewan tonight from ballet before it chucked it down and vie started bleeding again! Not the best idea I've ever had, but it answers my question of "do you think I'll be fine to start running now?"!! Erm, no!!
I have a scan tomorrow to see if everything healing well due to all the problems ive had.

deo357 · 03/10/2011 20:37

Poor Ewan tough times 4 him. & no running yet mrs, look forward to hearing how your scan goes though. Got spa tone today ! Will give it a go!! & got pedicure. Ds5 birthday too so busy day I'm hanging, weighing Stanley Tom so will chat then xxx

Coppernoddle · 04/10/2011 02:24

Oh brilliant, I'm intreaged to here what he weighs now, I'm getting ewan weighed swell, looking forward to it!
Good on you for the spa tone, put it into fresh orange juice. I think if I can remember, take it when your stomach is empty! Read the leaflet though, it's a interesting read! Oh and the back of each sachet tells you another fact, keeps it exiting! :)
Hope ds5 had a good day! You sound manic this time of year with so many birthdays, including stanley's! You must really feel the excitement of Christmas! I do too, but I'm always already pregnant by the time I get there!
Oh, you must be coming unto stanley's due date soon are we? Is he starting to plump out a little?

Coppernoddle · 04/10/2011 02:26

2.22am, I'm going to visit the next app! Time for a spot of shopping without wasting hours in the day!!!! :)

deo357 · 04/10/2011 16:32

My little porker is 4lb 12oz ! Yay ! So 9 oz in a week . V pleased . Stanley is due 23rd October so nearly there . He is still a good boy but hubby & I feel so precious of him it's mad , he is a very special boy with everything that's happened . Love it shopping in the night ! U r my kinda girl . It is v busy 4 me at mo , need 2 get Xmas shopping now , I'm behind !!! I may b lazy & get everyone something from next for once , then I can focus on the kids which is a real mission . What I need is a little NYC trip !! What did Ewan weigh ??

Coppernoddle · 05/10/2011 12:18

Christmas in new York! Now that's what I need, a girly break!! Only that would be great if I didn't miss my kids and hubby so much! I'm useless going away with friends, spend the whole tine wanting to come home! Deo, Christmas shopping, sounds like a plan! Ask them if they'd gift wrap it too! Job done!
Stanley's doing so well, I'm desperate for more pics! Bet he's really starting to chunk up now! And 9oz in one week, brilliant! I would be so protected of him to if I'd been what you went through! I'm very protective of ewan, way more than the girls at the moment! Doesn't mean I love them any less, but think my hormones are getting the better of me! I'm sick of all these complications that seem to just keep going! I want a break now! I went for my scan and the only thing they can tell you is that the placenta is all gone! I could of told her that! And to top it off, I've now come on my period! I feel robbed! Two months!! That's crap!!! And it's sooooooo painful!

Took ewan to weighing yesterday and he weighs 13.06lb! He's growing so fast, I want him to slow down! He starting really cooing aswell now! Although I think he's lactose intollerant like my other daughter, he did a poo at clinic and the health visitor was shocked! We took him off the imeprisol as he just got worse! Poor little man, not loving life at the mo!! See the dietician soon.

Right, going to drown my aches and pains in a fish finger butty!!!

(my hips ache today too :( )

deo357 · 06/10/2011 08:53

oh god cn, cant beleive u have no more answers thats rubbish.. what does gp/hv think it is ? ewan is having such a tough time too, bless him, hope things improve for him soon, love your fb pic of u and him asleep. Chunk out is not a word i would describe stanley as !! he now has cheeks, but still a little sparrow, he is awake more now. he was so grumpy yest from 4 til 8 , feeding on off & moaning its the 1st day he has moaned ever !!! so dinner for 8 was a tad chaotic .but then he did 6 hours in night again. ds2 has his exams to get in to grammar school today. v nervous 4 him. willing him thru he deserves it ! mum back from her 2 week hol yest so got her round today, 1st day at home all week, oh sometimes i wish for a quiet life . im thinking about 1/2 term at mo, gonnatake kids out 4 day as we did nothing in hols. im thinking, Warwick Castle, it is supposed to be good & swimming & shopping !!!!
hope u good cmm, long time no hear ???

deo357 · 06/10/2011 08:56

oh and NYC shopping is amazing. i went with my BF for our 30th birthdays for 4 days it was great and its the 1st time i have been away & not missed them all too much because it was something i had always wanted to do & they wouldnt have enjoyed it !!!! i know what u mean about girly trips, im always tthe first to leave to go home, but i do like to let out my wild side every now & then, but its best kept under wraps now im a mummy !!!!!

Coppernoddle · 06/10/2011 10:19

Warwick castle is lovely! It's right near my mums, I love going to castles!
I do like to let myself go once in a while too and am trying to organise as girly skiing weekend trip after Christmas! Can't beat flying down a mountain at break neck speed! I'm owed it! Since hubby went for 10 days at the same time of having a prolapse with Ewan at the beginning, no lifting dear, I'm going away for 10 days!! Thanks!
Deo, let's have another picture of your gorgeous boy! Anyhow lovely for him to be awake alot more now, really get lots back!

Well, I spent 3 hours in a&e last night! Not due to my cracked nose that my wonderful daughter gave me but due to my bleeding. Monday night I pegged it back from ballet as it was starting to chuck it down, and started bleeding. I thought I'd just started my period but it got heavier and heavier. Yesterday I soaked through a whole pack of maternity and always pads, about 20 of them! Sorry:( I'm a constant drip drip gush for well over 24 hours now and it's different blood, bright red and loads of clots! Sorry again :( The scan was clear, no placenta left, so there not sure. I decided to go home as I was so tired and my friend had to bring me. And he said if it doesn't slow down go to you gp, and it hasn't slowed, I'm still gushing and changing every hour or less. I feel rotten, tired and worn out! Very dizzy but blood pressure fine last night, So have no idea what it is? Or whether it is just a period? I'm a light three day girl, and this is horrendous! But never had a c section before so is this normal?

Coppernoddle · 06/10/2011 10:20

Hubbies been go ny shopping and is desperate to take me!!

Coppernoddle · 06/10/2011 10:21

Coppernoddle · 06/10/2011 10:22

There, not here

cmm · 06/10/2011 21:46

Hi girls
Sorry haven't been in touch, been up and down a bit still. Hv been today and we've talked about not doing as much and just catching up with things really.
Deo - are you finding adjustment back home ok? You seem so settled which is just fantastic! How old are all your boys? You are amazing being able to cope with so much.
Cn - can't believe you're still bleeding, you poor thing. What are they saying. I was told that your first period could be very heavy. Must be so draining for you.
Look fwd to reading your posts soon! Xxxx

deo357 · 07/10/2011 10:26

hi cmm - sorry u r still up & down, u will get thru this r & r, normality, not analysing too much, all those things will help. yes im settled at home, still have moments of omg what just happened 2 me, & as u have probably read im a bit mad on the help issue & very terratorial over my house now, so it has effected us in different ways. u have to remember i have 6 kids so my life is very different to yours. i have no choice but to soldier on & i am at the bottom of the list !!! but thats fine, its the way i like it. this is my dream to have loads of kids & be mummy !!!!!!! but of course being away from home has killed me too

cn - the bleeding is in no way normal, i think its time u caused a fuss with gp now. this is really gonna knock your energy etc down. something is a miss now try to get them to sort it out.

warwick castle could b a plan to meet up? skiing trip sounds great never been, would love to take the kids one day. im going out tonight 4 dinner with the girls & taking stanley !!!!!! whoop whoop , ellie the elephant is in the house !!!!!!!!!

Coppernoddle · 07/10/2011 12:44

Cmm, it's so hard! But your doing all the right things by talking to your health visitor and being aware of what's going on! One of the most important things you need to do is sleep, I always felt so much better when I had pnd after a good nights sleep! How are you hips? Why don't you get hubby to take a few days off and go away on a mini break! Somewhere you can just relax and spend time as a family. Also, go out with your friends and enjoy yourself! Remind yourself of what it was like to be you without kids on the mind! It's horrible hauling your ass out but you'll enjoy it once you are!!

I have to say, after having Ewan, I have to turned into mental, military woman! If I wasn't, nothing would be done and I couldn't relax!

Well, the bleeding has slowed down slightly! I lost about a pint on Wednesday and close to that yesterday too! They gave me some blood clotting tablets which seemed to of worked! I don't think it was a period as it was like nose bleed blood, not the other type!! Sorry! Feel proper drained and exhausted! Walked the girls to school this morning and proper nearly fainted! So I've eaten tons of iron rich foods today as well as my spa tone. Hopefully tomorrow I'll start to feel better! As it's slowed a little I'll wait till after the weekend to see if it stops! They have no idea what it is as the scan showed no placenta left! Although my mum had a hysterectomy when she was in her thirties due to endemetriosis. Another thing to look forward to inheriting! Obviously the addisons disease wasn't enough!!

I still feel low though cmm, every now and again I sit and cry and think, that was the worst pregnancy ever!!! I made a list yesterday of everything that happened and just cried! Thank goodness never again!!! Even I couldn't believe everything that was on it and how calm I was!
Here's my list, just to share as I still can't believe it myself!

  1. Post nasal drip (went through 6 toilet rolls a day spitting as going down the back of my throat, yuk! )
  2. Hypremises, was sick that much I burst all the blood vessels in my throat and it nearly closed over, which also caused no 3.
  3. Prolapse of the womb, they pocked it back up and I was bed ridden for a month till he grew into my pelvis.
  4. Cyst on my womb that's still there and very painful!
Nearly had an addisons crisis which could of killed me! Great!!!
  1. Strep b
  2. Grade 4 placenta previa
  3. Spd resulting in crutches and wheelchairs

Then to finish, c section infection, and thrush in milk ducts! Now the bleeding!!!! WHEN WILL THIS END!!!

I want to feel me!

Coppernoddle · 07/10/2011 12:49

Sorry cmm, never finished typing,
So your absolutely allowed to feel what you feel due to what's happened!!! You need to do things to take your mind off thinking about it all the time! But relaxing whilst doing it! Do you have any hobbies? Do you have time to have hobbies?

Deo, meeting up sounds good, I'll Facebook you nearer the time!! X x

Coppernoddle · 07/10/2011 12:50

Deo, have a great night out tonight!!!

cmm · 08/10/2011 08:02

Hi girls
Thanks so much for your messages and kind words. Feeling better than I was at beginning of week. Will get through it.
Deo - you sound to be great, that's fab! Like you say, I guess having six boys you have to be sorted. For me' I guess it's also an adjustment as has little girl for nearly five years in her own! Think just feel like you cn that whole of preg was so wearing and maybe weaker after my long illness years ago. Anyway, will get sorted. I am usually so busy!!! Sound like you girls before, nights out, girlie weekends away, love it!!!
How did your night out go deo? Hope you enjoyed it. You so deserve it.
Cn you poor thing with the blood loss. Absolutely agree you need to push for reasons. It can't be normal. Also all those complications, you had rubbish preg too girl! We all deserve big Christmas presents! I keep looking at my children, as I am sure you look at yours, and think how lucky we are.
My little girl has her first ballet show today, reversal this morning and then the show this afternoon. She gets so nervous and hadn't done before so really hoping she'll do it! Going to go for a little girlie time to town inbetween with her! Might do dinner after too.
What you up to this weekend? Xxxx
