Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

No I haven't, I'd let you know as soon as I hear anything if she puts it on facebook, but so far nothing! I think it's just because she doesn't get reception and would have to go outside to get it! I'm hoping everything's gone well, I'm getting concerned now too!
Don't know how long you would be on for if she had to have a hysterectomy too? And if baby is in special care which I assume it will be, how long they keep baby till? I've been checking like nearly every hour! Poor thing, hope she's well!!
How are you cmm? Last day of the hols today! Getting everything ready today, bathed and early night! Girlies are so exited! How about yours?

meg23ruby · 05/09/2011 18:25

Hi hope everything is ok. I have been following this post and wishing you all good luck x

Coppernoddle · 05/09/2011 20:46

Thankyou meg23ruby! It's nice to have support! Were all routing for deo now all our journeys have come to an end! She's starting to worry us a little now!!!!

Cmm, spd question! I was fine, walking and than bang, the back of my pelvis went and I couldn't walk on my leg! Was bloody painful! Then it took about half hour and I could walk and has been sore all day! Did you get this? How long will it go on for?
How's Ted? Can't believe it's school tomorrow! Are you feeling anxious like I am?
Poor little ewan's been in hospital today with a rash and not feeling very well! We tried to get a urine sample and they stripped him off, sat him on my lap with a towel under his bottom with a cup in one hand with his teeny weeny wincky in it and a bottle of milk in the other hand whilst holding him up in my arms and my little fella pooped all over me! There was nothing I could do as he was frantic feeding and I had to get the urine!, was hilarious!! But I got it! Sample was clear :)

Oh deo - I am welling up just reading this... been thinking of you lots, we've been so concerned. I am so relieved that you have delivered. We thought you must have had him. I am so relieved that the little man is here and OK and that you are now out of intensive care. You have been through so much. I know how I felt going in at 34 weeks for my pp and staying approx 4 weeks but having him early and the acreta too, I found the previa was so much to deal with alone let alone this, you've been so brave. Well done and concentrate now on looking at your lovely new little one and taking each day as it comes. Have been thinking and praying for you. Big hugs to you all xxx

I am so glad to hear you are on the mend and the baby is doing well.

cmm · 09/09/2011 20:55

deo - it's so so great to hear from you! Like cn said it's been so horrid for you, we have been rooting for you both all the way. Whilst bf Ted been checking the threads loads!!!!! You are so so brave deo - like I think I mentioned in the other thread, i had just over 4 weeks in hosp with my pp but didn't ensure the same amount of awful bleeding you've had near the end. I am so so pleased you are safe now, like you said, it will be a long journey and so just keep focusing on taking each day as it comes and looking at your gorgeous little one! Don't expect too much from yourself, when I came out I was in tears and emtionally all over the place, going through a massive experience can really take it out of you. We'll still keep chatting on the thread and keep you going!!!
Ted is 11 weeks now - can't believe it!

Cn - thanks for mail too! it has been an emotional ride hasn't it. You're still fairly early days after all the spd probs too. It is literally only the last couple of weeks that I feel I have really improved with the spd more. Still having pain and leg weaker!, but on the whole am definitely making more progress. Went out for first time last night and had expressed two bottles, nearly 8.5oz total, he took the whole lot over less than a 3 hr period! He is such a guzzler!!! But then he is sleeping from about 11 - 6! The only prob is that I hadn't fed from boobs since around 7.45 so at 2.45 woke up massive!!!!!! Ended up having to express! How's your day been? x

New posters! Thanks for your messages, started this thread back in early June and it really has kept us all going with these horrid pps - hope that anyone out there currently with one can get support from the posts too. x

How lovely deo for your boys to meet him!! And a big high five to hubby for juggling the stress of his wife and unborn child, children and work! Glad your on the mend and hopefully feeling quite positive! Really hoping there looking after you in hospital, giving you pots of rest to get better and plenty of cuddles from Stanley!!

Cmm, I can't believe Ted is 11 weeks!!! The time really is going fast! I can't believe ewan is 6 weeks on Monday, although it feels like we've had him forever!!
Wow your boobies are on fire!!!! :) 8oz!! And hope you had a fantastic night out!! I remember after having dd1, going out for the evening and expressing in the car on the way home they were that engorged!! Save the milk for your next night out as you get loads!!!!!!I'm soooooo looking forward to the day ewan sleeps from 11-6! One day, one day!!
My day has been lovely. Kids to school, sterilising bottles, tea with a friend, lovely walk through the village, pick girlies up, take dd1 to her first gymnastics lesson who loved it :) , Chinese with friends, sterilise bottles, bed! Oh and mums net!! :)

I do hope people read this thread that are suffering with pp and for it to support them to like it's supported all of us!! I made some real friends on here who I care about and am blessed to have met them! Thank you cmm and deo! Think we'll be friends for a long time :)

Girls your boys r growing up so quick where has that time gone. Yes couldn't have got thru my boring times on bed rest without u two particularly . U were life savers. Hubby hates things like this but when he went on 4 me he said he could believe the support & worry from u guys. Hence u were one of my priorities to get a message too. Itchy to come home I'm "fit" although living on pain killers just stanley to get blimin feeding he won't wake to feed u see as on tube to feed he latches on then sucks 4 times & sleeps ! Last night he fed for nearly 30 mins but today not at all. My milk is bad as I've been so I'll any tips on getting it going better? It still hasn't come in started expressing day 4 or 5 when hubby did it 4 me as I couldn't move my arms !
So iPad arrived back today not great service so I'll try and tell u the story.....

Coppernoddle · 10/09/2011 21:26

Deo, glad your trying to feed! Poor little man, sounds like he's happy as Larry with that tube! He'll get the booby love soon!
I tried expressing but didn't seem to work much, skin to skin as much as you can is vital as you release more of the hormone that starts your milk. Just put him on as much as you can, literally every hour if you can! Your milk may take it's time due to what you've been through! I took that spa tone for my iron levels, eating plenty little and often high in carbs and protein. Drinking plenty as if I was slightly dehydrated I could feel it! Nipple stimulation, get him suckling! I guess taking all those drugs aren't helping, mine made ewan very sleepy so he didn't feed as often to make my milk come in. For the first three days he slept for 6,9, and 8 hours!
The most important thing is your health though, and if your body is concentrating on repairing itself, don't get too stressed if the feeding doesn't work, I really beat myself up over ewan not feeding and got really upset with it! Thanks to both your advise too, I'm now really enjoying my time with ewan and bottle feeding, i make more of an effort with him and were having a wonderful time! But I've never fed a premie baby before! Good luck tonight, hope he starts to feed a little more! X x x

Coppernoddle · 11/09/2011 15:52

How's the feeding going deo?

Hope you've had a nice weekend cmm!

Was reading over some of the old posts last night whilst feeding! Can't wait to read over the whole thing again, think I might print it off and save it! Put it in ewan's scrap book! Grin

deo357 · 11/09/2011 19:26

Stanley would b 34 weeks today & today he discovered the boobs ! I have boob fed him all day, no tube feeds he's mad 4 it ! Hooray. Looks like were on the road outta here. Will chat with docs Tom & c what we needs 2 do now. Hubby came this am so we had 3 hours together whichnwas nice.
I read back over all your posts while I was missing the other night, I can imagine what u must have been thinking!! Let down reflex started today with him feeding , but boobs still not gone massive & hard ? Hope u all had a good day xx

deo357 · 11/09/2011 19:56

The birth......( not meant to scare anyone, this does not happen to Joe bloggs I promise u all!)
So 8 am on the fri the docs came round to tell me that although bleeding had stopped they didn't want me to leave hospital and delivery at 34 weeks or 36, oh how they kept moving the goal posts, I'd had 9/10 bleeds by this point. The doc was my favourite lovely woman & I was upset, we were laughing about how she liked my purple leopard skin pants when I felt a trickle, she said r u bleeding, I said think so, and it flowed ! Within 5 mins it was a pool of blood , by the time they ran me to labour ward on bed it was coming off edge of the bed! So it was time. They rang hubby & wheeled me in & gave me a ga. 4 hours later , I'd had baby and hysterectomy, & awoke briefly having lost 6 lts of blood. Then I started having stomach cramps in screaming agony, & they rushed me to radiology , to look inside & my belly was filling up with blood. They operated & cut into my groin to stop blood flow into stomach. At this point i was in intensive care. Hubby was told I was extremely critical & may not make it thru the night, as I was losing blood. 48 hours on a ventilator & they opened me me up again from boobs to pubes & got blood out now it had stopped. Slowly I got better & went to labour ward high dependency and made my way eventually to ward! In the end I had 20 units of blood, that's nearly your own body twice over. Here were are......I made it & the surgical team were amazing, & done nothing but check on me, visit me, and even asked about my mental state! So there we have it, a story to tell the grand children xxx

Coppernoddle · 11/09/2011 19:59
