Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

Hahaha!! Nearly fainted!! Grin
I guess your hospital can't handle you!!!! :)
Hopefully they might deliver you but I have a feeling there just going to keep you in and it becomes a waiting game again! :(
The boobs are big yes, but unfortunately there all veiny too! I look like a London underground map! :)
It's bloody sore though! Why did I choose to go cold turkey!! Hopefully in the next few days it'll be ten times better!
At least they'll give you your iron now, you bloody need it!!!
Have you got your iPad? Can you get internet conection or not?
Bet the emergency services are well acquainted to you now! First name terms! Hehehe!
Let us know how you get on!

Coppernoddle · 26/08/2011 18:47

Ow do i deal with a constipated baby, he hasn't poo'd since yesterday starting the bottle and he's very uncomfortable! I have been giving him bits of water, how much do I give to a bottle fed baby?

Coppernoddle · 26/08/2011 18:47

How are you getting on deo?

Coppernoddle · 26/08/2011 19:06

That's it! I'm expressing and going to feed him! I just read that it could get worse as the milk is just sat there and with the antibiotics it will get worse! And poor ewan, not getting on too well with the milk, poor little mite! I'm doing my nut in! Do I? Don't I? What would you do? Help?

deo357 · 26/08/2011 20:10

Hi, well u can give him water to help with the pooing, try & give it when he is moaning not hungry. Expressing a bit off may help u, not too much or boobs won't stop producing, u need to cut down by x amount of time each day, so express for 15 today, 10 tomorrow etc etc.
I'm up in London, & have service on phone & I pad , phew. Bleeding settled. No idea on plan at the mo, I didnt ask as it's been too soon after bleed really. Hops v v quiet, thank god!!!! I'm sure it won't last .
Hope u have calmed a bit cn?

cmm · 26/08/2011 20:57

Hi
Sorry for late posts, just read them now...
Deo sorry you're in again, you sound a bit more resigned? I guess with me bring kept in for the month or so I didn't have this in and out thing did have fresh bleeds on/off when in and then bled all time inbetween. They kept saying that they would def rather leave long as poss but depended on baby and me', I didn't seem to suffer iron wise though. Those cannulas do hurt though don't they! My hubby faints so could never look!!!! You will look back on this and not believe it all happened....I still can't believe it and I am 9 weeks on! Thinking about you. I remember how hard it is.
Cn - so sorry you're going through it too with boobs! Mine are huge! Could you call one of the bf helplines?often just as hard to stop! I stopped sp gradual that it wasn't as much of a prob. Hope things settle soon!
Ted doing well and pelvis seems little better too!
Will check on line later when feeding again!!! X

Yes, all is calm! Have dope to my friend who's a health visitor and she said carry on with your decision and get yourself better, get some rest and you can always return to feeding at a later date! So im carrying on! Gosh, this is a emotional roller coaster! I miss feeding him! But the pain is too much! I'm hoping this is the worst day! It couldn't get any worse surely! My head is all over the place! Right decision, wrong decision?

Glad you've got reception this time, makes all the difference! And you sound quite positive and relaxed about it this time! I guess you'll know more when the consultants are in in the morning! Glad hour not bleeding as heavy! Bet they keep you in for a few days at least, I know this one girl who bled on and off till 38 weeks very heavy, they just kept her in, she was in since 29 weeks! Not go make you feel down, but be prepared for the worst! And by the sou ds of it, this hospital didn't want you and sent you to your old hospital, then they transferred you as they couldn't deal with you and transferred you there! They need there arses kicking!!

Well, emotional day again and extremely painful, I think we've both had a rough day! Time to get some sleep x x sweet dreams x x

deo357 · 27/08/2011 11:10

Hi all, eventful night, bleeding , uncertain trace on baby, gowned up, and nil by mth, no sleep 4 2nd night in a row! All calm again this am so hoping t o go up to ward shortly, no real service on labour ward ! Oh I'm not relaxed about it this time but trying v h ard not to think more than a day ahead at the mo. I have always had this Feeling about baby coming in august. Only a few days left ! I don't know ??? So sorry cn r u carrying on bf now then ? I can't keep up, I hope boobs r bit better today & glad your spd improving cmm xx

Coppernoddle · 27/08/2011 22:41

OH no deo! I've not managed to get on today as went to a show, what a day you've had! Have they managed to get a good trace on baby now? What a night for you! Getting gowned up and everything! Wish they'd just deliver you and be done with it, surely this can't be good for stress on mother and baby! Have you had some food now? What have they said today? Any plans on delivery yet? Oh what stress! Has hubby managed to stay with you today? How are your boys coping with it again, this isn't good for them too! Fingers crossed for you that everything calms down for you or they deliver you! Sending big hugs deo, and your doing really well! Not too much longer now.

No breastfeeding, still cold turkey! Tomorrow morning will be 72 hours so hoping for some kind of change. My friend who's a health visitor said when I'm better and sorted myself out, there's no reason that I can't return to it! We'll see!

Will speak to you in the morning, hope tonight is less eventful for you and you get some good rest! X x x x

deo357 · 28/08/2011 11:48

I was looking forward to sleep tonight, no such luck, labour ward again after small bleed & decelerations again on trace. And again, they do nothing. Can't tell u anything really, no plans in place, even the midwife said wife they would deliver me. So, I'm hoping come Tuesday my consultant will come & c me & have discussion, it's bank hol weekend & thru r a bit slack. Hubby came with kids yest 4 an hour ish, was a long day with no visits really. Kids r ok as it's the weekend & hubby around, trying not to get them looked after by anyone else til nanny comes mon, but that means no quality time with hubby. Got a friend coming tonight so that's good.

How r the boobs today cn?

Coppernoddle · 29/08/2011 08:08

How frustrating deo! Hopefully you'll find out more today! All these bleeds, does it take blood away from the baby? It's not starving baby of oxygen is it? So worrying! I really hope they say they'll deliver you now! Glad the boys are with hubby, makes you relax more!
Boobs are starting to go soft now and are less painful, I think if you can get through the first two days then your on the homeward stretch! Ewan has finally poo'd too! It was thick and lots of it! Poor little man!

deo357 · 29/08/2011 08:42

No, me losing blood not baby. No more action or news as it's bank hol weekend so all part timers ! slept like a baby last night as no one in hosp it's empty !!! Wonder what today brings, apart from boredom ?? Glad Ewan pooing & boobs better !!! Hope u have a good day today xxx

Coppernoddle · 29/08/2011 11:03

That's good news that it's not effecting baby then! I was worried when the said they couldn't get a good trace! Fantastic you got a good nights sleep, I guess people don't like to give birth on bank holidays !!!! :)
If it's empty then, your boys can come and visit and not disturb to many people then. Are they coming in today? I don't understand why there's not a consultant there all the time, just incase things go wrong or needed! Not just for you but for others too!
I'm still not dressed yet and am just snoozing on the sofa with ewan. Hubby taken girls for a bath now so a little peace and quiet! Very lazy day today, starting to come down with a cold so very tired.

deo357 · 29/08/2011 13:10

Basically the trace keeps dipping and peaking all the time so not so good, but still not enough to deliver, was doing the same last night too. Yes there are consultants. Here 24 hour , one of the reasons they sent me here, but MY cons isn't here this weekend and no one changes her plans unless an emergency!! From the comments I have been getting from staff it's looking like 34 weeks. But no solid date. Little one not been well for a few days so I think hubby is umming and arrring about coming in today which is a shame, plus he said he didn't feel great earlier, I'm so bored today. It's such a long way to ask friends to come too. Can't even b bothered to get dressed to b honest. What for???? glad u r taking some chill out time with Ewan. Relax before hubby is back 2 work Tom. Chat later bored.com !!!!!!

Coppernoddle · 29/08/2011 21:47

Oh dear, illness, not good!!! That means no hubby visiting!! :(
There's no point getting dressed in hospital! I'd just watch films all day in bed! Try and enjoy it which is hard I know! How far off 34 weeks are you now? Can't be far! Wish they'd make up there bloody mind!
Had a lovely walk today with Ewan in my moby wrap! There ace! All cuddled up! But my pelvis hurt very quickly, not quite there yet with it I guess! This will be my first week with the girls and Ewan on my own and no holiday clubs!!! I'm guessing we won't get dressed the whole week!!
I'm fully pooped!!! Hope you get a good nights sleep again! X x x x x x

cmm · 30/08/2011 05:56

Hi deo and cn

Sorry been a while, had a christening this weekend and tried to do a bit more, like you cn pelvis still plays up,

Deo - so sorry to hear about your about the bleeding and traces, I know it just be such a worry. How many weeks are you now? I have a feeling they won't keep you going that long you know. I know when I was in (although appreciate my tracings were ok and I had previa but no acreta) the midwives were getting very twitchy the more I bled; I remember that they always wanted to wait for my consultant though! It's fruatrating. However there was one night where they gave me' pethidine middle of night after calling my consultant as they weren't sure if o was going into labour. They then ended up saying that they if when they examined me I was, they would have me' straight across to theatre despite my cons not on; guess what I am saying is i think from my experience of being on the wars, if they get really concerned and your cons not on am sure they will so the section anyway. Do hope so. It really does drive you to despair. They are always balancing yours and baby's health with early delivery risks, and know they will want to get you to 34 but there may come a time when they say enough! It is so so hard, messes with your mind and just becomes all encompassing doesn't it. I spent some days, quite a lot, not getting dressed, still showered but not dressed. You do think why bother. I also started napping during day as was so tired and used to get contraction type pains sometimes. I was only getting a few hours here or there in the night so think I was shattered in day. Oh deo, really feel for you but hang on in there, this will all seem like it almost didn't happen when you've delivered. It is such a surreal experience. I still flashback to it now. It's so mentally tough. I can't wait to switch on and see you hsve delivered safely xx

Cn - if I take ibroprufen before it really helps so much, just don't want to have to take every day. Litte girl back to school tues and need to get her there, not far to walk so that's my goal! Cn, totally understand it's hard with pelvis, the brufen really does help!!! Also glad your boobs are better cn! Mine are huge!!!! Always small usually but are now massive, ted just slept from 11-5, woke up with rocks!!! Great he's slept that long though!

Better get back to sleep, he's off again although restless! It's nearly 6, alarm goes off soon!!!

Take Care xxxx

Well I'm 32 plus 2. I was scheduled at my old hosp for section tomorrow! I wish!!! I hope 2 get a plan today ? No more bleeding for 48 hours so nothing happening. Was so bored yest . Hubby & kids did come but they only stay an hour. Then my nan came for an hour which was nice but she went at 6. Makes 4 a long night. Can't believe u r still suffering cmm with the spd. Think u need to do some pilates to help with your core muscles too. Ooh moby wrap. R they good. I have a baby bjorn but been eying them up, r they complicated? Hubby & kids not coming today as back to work etc :-(

Coppernoddle · 30/08/2011 11:01

Oh moby wrap, tgere amazing! I've got ewan in a sling hold at the moment and as he gets bigger there are lots of different holds for you to do, and there so simple to use, just practice a couple of times!

Deo, consultant today!! Fingers crossed for you!
Cmm, I find the more I exercise the better it's getting!!!
Off to park now! Already late, catch up in a while x x x x

deo357 · 30/08/2011 14:38

Hmm may have 2 get one ! Well, the update is this, haven't seen cons face 2 face but message relayed as:- if I don't bleed in next 48 hrs I can go home, if I do they will deliver ! That's in short !! So , I have questions obviously but apparently Tom she will come & c me. Either way I'm happy with that. Still want my long term date booked in too though just incase nothing happens. I'm gonna hunt down a moby wrap now!

Coppernoddle · 30/08/2011 15:29

That's kinda good news! Frustrating she didn't see you herself! Does this not make you want to go for a run now? You could deliver now! Moby wraps are amazing, you should try it! They don't hurt your back as much as the bjorn ones as the baby is closer to your body. And there's so many holds, go on their website and have a look, it's amazing!

Deo I could scream with frustration for you! One thing after another, dangling carrots in your face with you and your babies health! In hope that they know what there doing and what's best for you and baby, I'm routing for you either way! Home or deliver! Bet you've given up hoping for things now!

Cmm, I'm cracking open the ibuprofen now!!! Done too much again! This summer holiday lark is hard work!

deo357 · 30/08/2011 16:28

Oh yea hubby said get moving, I've been 4 a long walk but I know , I can't make it happen unless I have sex!!! Hmmmm ;-)
Yep gonna get a moby wrap they look great, the baby bjorn does give u back ache.
Bit annoyed, nanny said she was taking kids to this big lake etc today I said, r u sure Zak up to it as not well, she says he is fine, they this Arvo he has gone down hill, hubby got home & he has big lump come up under neck. Grrrrr I hate people looking after my kids '!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So frustrated. Plus I told her go this am & she went at 11 and came back at 3 & met her sis there. Not what I said at all.
Yes cn I am frustrated at all this carrot dangling, I can't tell u, but home or baby either will do tomorrow !!!!!! Ahhhhh got mother coming tonight to visit . Joy !!! More annoyance

Coppernoddle · 30/08/2011 17:45

Oh poor zap! Get him to the docs! sounds abit cheeky this nanny! Your employing her and paying her, she does as you say!! Unless she's doing you a favour, I'd be having words!!
Do you only bleed then when you have sex? Did they not put you on a sex ban? They did me but I found that so hard to stick to and we still did! Get moving mrs! You've been through enough now!

Uh, I hate other people looking after my kids too, even hubby's not up to my standards!! :) that's very frustrating!

My mothers coming up to visit on Thursday too, :( only because I was on the phone to my sister the other day and mentioned mum hasn't even phoned me since she saw ewan 2 days after he was born! And my dad hasn't even seen him yet! He's a month old!!! They only live in coventry, 1 1/2 hours away! There so fake, church, church, church, I'm so family orientated yet I never speak to them!!! Really annoys me! Good luck with your mother, maybe she'll frustrate the heck out of you to the point where you bleed and deliver!!
Oh, get a moby wrap, there brill! I've got an olive green one, goes with a lot more of my clothes! And hubby can wear it too!

deo357 · 30/08/2011 18:20

I think I'm feeling highly strung, but annoyed she didn't follow my exact instructions. No one except me can look after kids best either, I agree. I am a control freak! I am on sex ban , last time we did it I bled the next day ??? Hmmm , maybe I should! That's bad ! (evil face). As 4 mother 4th time she's called lost in London, and angry , oh joy, she is a story 4 another day cn ! Between her the ice queen, & mil all of a sudden splashing the cash (after 17 years of me bring with hubby) my kids r getting £5 notes left right & centre & she has just bought my eldest a £300 bmx yest . Wtf ?? Why?? Buying affections/attentions/points/my kids/ my hubby. But not meeeeee! Bugger off all of them I say! I just said to hubby, well she gonna do that 4 all 6 then ? She as never had money ? Ahhh . Life is so far removed at mo . Honestly. As 4 your dad . Shame on him . My dad was my bf & my life. Sadly he died 8 years ago. He would have been here every single day 4 me. Yep will order moby wrap at weekend if it's shit it's your fault ha ha ha. I'm thinking black, it's slimming & I'm one big mama at mo, my sizev8's r crying in the wardrobe. Hubby called Zak has throat infection. I knew it grrrrrrrr

deo357 · 31/08/2011 07:39

Well, Rose to the challenge last night & had a bleed at 1.15am. Clearly they didn't deliver me, but I wonder what will b said today after yest comments?? Feeling a bit on edge / upset because obviously I now can't go home today, but they certainly went gonna deliver last night as baby not in distress. The stress !!!! Can't bare it. I can feel if it doesn't go my way today, I may just tip me over edge. Coupled with no sleep again , I was up 1 til 4 then dozed after that. Will fill u in when I know more .

cmm · 31/08/2011 09:54

Oh deo, so sorry, it is just awful, remind them of what they said about
delivering and ask them about the risks of keeping bleeding and the bleeds getting bigger vs early baby? I know they said to me' the more bleeds the heavier they can become but saying that not sure if different with your acreta? What grade is your pp, did they say? Thinking of you x
