Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

No I'm now under London hospital but obviously mine is closer in real emergency. I think I am just as prepared it's just that my hosp scare mongering @ what might happen & London saying very very rarely is it that much of a rush , they deal with pp and pa all the time !

Hi
Sorry not posted for a coupe of days, has been my little girls birthday one day and her party the next day!
Deo - so pleased you're out! You're doing great taking each day as it comes...willing the weeks forward for you and your little one but every week in there for it is good!!! Like you say guess you're prepared now if you have to go in but so hope you can stay home!
Cn - so pleased you're doing well. Having my Bowen treatment again tomorrow for spd. Still getting better but still sore but on the whole making progress. Little one is doing great. Can't believe 8 weeks on Tuesday, weighs 8lb 13!
Feeds so much!!!
will keep checking the posts xx

Cmm, that's a good weight now!! Gosh 8 weeks, that's gone really fast!! My goodness this thread must have been going for ages then! The days just blur into one! Good with the spd! Mine seems to of come to a holt, it got better to the point where I don't need crutches but now has stopped, aches when walking! I'm guessing it will take a little longer, after all, it's only been two weeks!

Deo, it's nice to here that the London hospital can talk a little more sense to you instead of scaring the living shit out of you!! Gosh your old hospital would of delivered you by now! Makes such a difference people with experience! And a lot more relaxing, not as much as an emergency. So when are they thinking of delivering you then? 34 weeks? Or will they keep you as long as possible? Will you be admitted again towards the end? You must feel a little more at ease now with the new hospital, I know it's further away but they do sound like they know what there talking about! To be honest, I'd be scared of my own hospital as they had no idea! Hope your still enjoying being at home!

Well, poor ewan is poo'ing for England! Were doing about 15 a day and seem to be a little runny! He has a really sore bottom! Midwife said it's because he was jaundice and the colostrum in your milk stays for 2 weeks and is a laxative, also, I'm not sure whether the diclafenac was making him upset which I've now stopped taking! I'm worried he's going to be lactose intolerant like dd2 was although he's not as frantic as she was. He's so bubbly inside! Is this normal?

Night night x x x

deo357 · 15/08/2011 19:00

hi, still home !!!! possibly delivery at 34 but not firm decision yet. depends on bleeds between now & then. i have to go to london once a week now. Nanny started today so thats all good !! worked well & we got some jobs done together. my spd really kicking off with all this sitting around sooo painful walking about so know how u two feel. glad both babies thriving though xx

cmm · 15/08/2011 22:02

Hi
Deo, so glad you're still at home and nanny helping. Every week you're further on baby will be stronger. Feel for you on spd. It gets so painful. The Bowen technique has helped me in preg. I could get around ward a bit otherwise think it would have been even worse..when do you next see hospital?
Cn, poor Ewan....I stopped diclafenic as it heightened my bp! Find brufen helps now with spd still. It's early for you yet, even though I am making progress if is still sore and achy walking and sometimes it is really bad. Last time was around 6 weeks before better but this time worse.
Forgotten your other question! One min...

Good old poo talks!!! Last night he was much more settled! And his poo's have thickened up! I didn't eat much dairy yesterday and have today so we'll soon find out! Thanks cmm x

Deo, maybe speak to a physio or your consultant see if there's any exercises you can do to stop your hips from seizing up! It is definitely all the sitting around contributing to it! I guess it's good that you'll only go to 34 weeks so not as much weight bearing on them! Glad you have your nanny now so kids can be at home with you looked after!

Well, can't believe how much crap I've been eating! Pizza and pasta with little greens and fruit in fear of a rubbish night sleep with upset tummies! Although I have just sat and eat my way through a bag of raw green beans!

Now I need to find something healthy for dinner! Wish me luck!!!!

deo357 · 16/08/2011 18:18

Spoke to cons this lunch time going in to London tomorrow for a specialist 4 d scan to look at placenta again. She. Said. To be honest she thought I would have been back by now!!! I have been having loads of browny red but nothing fresh (tmi) . So we will c how we get on. V v tired today all the sleepless nights r catching up with me . u forget about all the foods. That upset baby's poo when u r not feeding !!!!! Can't wait. !!!!! Healthy food not so easy when u r feeling weary I find??? Fingers crossed 4 another good night !!!!! Xx

cmm · 17/08/2011 06:13

Good luck for your scan today deo. Thinking of you. Xxx
Cn how's things? X

OP posts:
Coppernoddle · 17/08/2011 17:33

Well, ate yogurt yesterday and seem to upset his tummy, but I think sugary things do too, doing my nut in thinking about what it could be!! Just going to give up I think and he'll have to get used to it! Don't eat that much dairy anyway, my friend saw a pead the other day and he said they get used to it, just don't over eat! I guess his tummy is still working things out! I had an ice cream today so we'll see how the night goes! Last night was aweful too, can't wait till he only feeds once in the night, he feeds every hour until 3am! I'm knackered!!,
Deo how did your scan go? Good news that your still at home!
Cmm, how long is it before they stop feeding every hour or two?????? My eyes have permanent matchsticks on them!! The days are blending into one now and my 'vie just had a baby adrenalin' has finally disappeared and I'm running on empty!! Hubby said he want to work a full week next week too, I can't even drive yespt! Really hurt myself yesterday going for a walk, how the he'll am I going to look after 3 kids and get dressed!!! :(

deo357 · 17/08/2011 21:36

Weird, twice I've posted a reply & it's not here?..

Coppernoddle · 18/08/2011 10:05

I hate that! It did that on my phone when I was in hospital three times whilst I wad trying to tell you of the birth of ewan and got so pead off I almost gave up!

Coppernoddle · 18/08/2011 13:37

My goodness I'm soooooo tired! I got 1 1/2 hours broken sleep last night until 5 am when I handed him to hubby to bottle feed and get the hell out of my bedroom!!!! I then got two hours! And this is how my week so far has been! He feeds every 1 1/2 hours, will NOT be put down and can only settle him by boob! Dd2 got very annoyed yesterday and asked if I've finished "boobing" him yet!!
Is it what I'm eating?is he frantic feeding? Or is this just boys? HELP! I need sleep!! Hubby sleeps downstairs as he's working! He's had a grand total of 4 days off - broken and expects me to drive next week so he work full time! My scar is bleeding and sore! And I spend all day in on my own so can't sleep as ewan won't be put down unless I sleep with him on my chest!!

Sorry!!! :(

deo357 · 18/08/2011 16:40

OK, chill babe....so no its not boys ! its baby, maybe he is just taking the thirst quenching milk & not filling up properly hence the feeding every 1 1/2 hours. pick a time to make a fresh start in the next day or two and start again. you need to ensure he is suitably starving before feeding so he takes a full feed, try swaddling him before the feed or after to get him to settle or wrap him up and leave him to cry once u r sure he is not hungry just attention seeking. maybe try a dummy as he is maybe quite sucky?? u need to get air to the scar quick before it gets manky too, so lay in the evening with air to it. is there a friend u can walk to in the day? or have someone round to keep your sanity, shame im not nearer id come & keep u sane!!! as 4 hubby going back to work, foot down maybe??? not sure if that will work with him?? obviously after your night u r overly tired. u need a good feed up & a hug . personally never had a baby suffer with what im eating but u said u have so only u can tell?
3 times i posted my reply last night & it didnt appear so gave up!! so went for scan and u wont beleive this.....no sign of acreeta?? after the mri & other scans i cant beleive it. the new consultant did tell me 80 0/0 of diagnosis is wrong but my god all of this fuss as i dont have it ?? (scan was done by consultant in fetal medicine) and having to have babe up in london etc. they wont truly know til they r inside me. sonographer did say i am a time bomb waiting to go ff. baby is 3.55lb now so gaining weight nicely, 2 weeks ahead of its aself. still a sitting duck at home, lots & lots of dark red/brown but no fresh (tmi) so im still under house arrest. really wanting my life back & my baby born. got to go back to london next thurs if not in before. dreading going back there because of travelling & they are all so rude.

Coppernoddle · 18/08/2011 20:50

Wow deo, that's fantastic news!!! Gosh, what a way to mess you head up! Does that mean no hysterectomy? And when are they going to deliver then? I guess under controlled circumstances would they leave you till 36/38 weeks? Either way, that's good news! And in theory, it could move then? Then again, all the bleeding is not good so may still be 34 weeks I guess!! So happy for you, one less stress of your mind!

So, plan of action!! Hubby's idea!! (he does have his uses!). stay off dairy for a few days and see what happens, at the same time express to get my milk going and bottle feed the night feed before midnight so hubby can keep him down stairs to get a good stint of sleep in me! Also, ewan gets a good feed with the thick milk and will hopefully settle! Hubby thinks he's drip feeding like you said deo and because he's not filling with thick milk he could be getting a bit of stomach acid too. We have given him a dummy and he does seem to suck it, but it doesn't settle him, if anything it stops him from falling asleep properly, just naps. Both the girls had dummies and worked very well but ewan, not so well. As for the scar, health visitor coming tomorrow and I can show her as she used to be a midwife! I think your right, wearing sanitary towels (sorry) doesn't let the air get to the scar and sweating a lot at night which is not helping!! As for hubby and his work there's not much he can do, he's mad busy (which is always the case) but he has to get it done! So I'll just have to crack on!summer hols will soon be over and I can rest then!!!

Thankyou so much, I'm off to bed! Fingers crossed for a better night!!! X x x

cmm · 18/08/2011 22:11

That's fantastic news deo!!!! Like cn said can't believe they've put you through this. I did bleed old stuff too, think when you've had bleeds it takes ages to all come away.
Cn do hope he settles more it's so tiring isn't it. I am shattered as ted was up loads after jabs yest so will write with proper update tomorrow! X

OP posts:
Coppernoddle · 19/08/2011 09:49

Hubby is amazing!!! All his idea!! I fed at 8pm, expressed and gave him another 1 1/2 oz, then expressed another 3oz and went to bed at 9pm. He then slept downstairs with hubby and went till 11.30 (3hrs!!), then gave him the bottle and finally brought him upstairs for feeding at 2.30am, I got 5 1/2 hours sleep!!! Defo think he's drip feeding now!! So going to try the same thing again tonight and make sure he goes at least two hours between feeds, make sure he's really hungry!
Cmm, I'm not looking forward to the jabs!! Just when you think you've nailed it!
Deo, how are you today!

deo357 · 19/08/2011 20:49

So glad u have had some sleep cn it makes all the difference. Sometimes it takes them a while to take the dummy. better than the thumb I would say.

As I said before they won't know for certain til they're inside but if no acReeta no hysterectomy ! Things r still in the air though. All dependant on bleeds latest delivery 36 weeks. 6 weeks of house arrest or hospital still to come??? Was fed up yest and today bored of being unable to do or plan.
I am still getting lots of brown daily flow, did u have that cmm? Can't b without pad. I will tell them on thurs. Xx

cmm · 19/08/2011 23:48

Cn so pleased you got bit more sleep, like deo said if makes so much difference. Ted usually goes for about 3 hours but last night was feeding every 2 or so at times, very tiring!
Deo yes got lots of brown. Well, between red and brown then went bright red of fresh again, sorry tmi!!! They were really only concerned if bright fresh red. I bled either fresh or red to brown for the month I was in before section and then basically for weeks after section too, it is do odd as becomes so hard seeing it each day, that constant reminder. At least the weeks are starting to get to the thirties! I really empathise though. I still feel like it was such a surreal experience.
Just trying to get 'ted' to sleep, this boy feeds all evening!!!! X

OP posts:
Coppernoddle · 20/08/2011 08:40

More sleep again last night, this bottle at night seems to work a treat at the mo! Hubby does one feed so I get a good 4 /5 hours then I carry on!
Deo, must be horrible seeing constant blood! But look at cmm and all her bleeding and Ted is perfect! I know 36 weeks seems an age away but it's not in the grand sceme of things, it's nothing! And little one will be perfect too! Anyway, the kids are back to school soon which will be less stressful on you and you can feel less guily about sitting down all day! Try and get friends to come round and keep you company.
Cmm, sounds like teds having a growth spurt, can't wait till the two hour thing stretches! Although I'm enjoying him being a baby, and not wanted to wish this time away, I guess the compromise is worth it!
Still getting achey period pains acassionally shooting pains and my bladder still really hurts hen it's full and I pee. But not a urine infection! Feels like they've sewn it to my womb! Sorry!
Have a lovely Saturday x x

deo357 · 20/08/2011 18:32

Cmm - I have the same, constant brown/red but as u say they r only interested in fresh. Obviously still home at mo, went to tesco and spent all my baby club vouchers on nappies & wipes as u can't Use them online and generally I only shop online. feeling a little more ready but names r becoming a problem 4 boys we can't agree on anything!!!! Glad u getting sleep cn & u r at the tough bit cmm , hang in there, how long u gonna bf for?
Xx

Coppernoddle · 20/08/2011 18:45

Well, so long for my 5 hours Kip tonight, after those two night of bottle and trying dummy, my milk in one boob has diminished some what! So back to just boob! Wish me luck!
And hubby is riding an enduro tomorrow so needs a good nights Kip! It's alright for some!
Boys names were the hardest of all to think of I found! Girls are so much easier! And we still haven't registered ewan yet!

deo357 · 20/08/2011 19:10

Oh no , low boob milk !!!! Typical hubby out riding! Mines been in & out all day, rest he says !!! House feels so messy it's starting 2 wind me up & need a cleaner, can't have a nanny & a cleaner!!!!!
Hope your night not too bad xxxx

cmm · 20/08/2011 23:23

Deo yes it's really hard seeing the blood each day isn't it. So surreal. Like you say they are only interested if fresh red. I couldn't believe how it just kept going. Hang in there. You are doing so well!

Cn any more news on feeding? Ted still feeding load! Am an hour way from home in Our motorhome, little one in Moses basket next to me' pelvis sore earlier, seem to stiffen up in night so much, bb Cn how are things with you? Xx

OP posts:
Coppernoddle · 21/08/2011 08:14

2 1/2 hours broken sleep!!! Little bugger!! And hubby keeps saying the same to me, rest! He took the girls out all day yesterday and left me again when I really wanted to spend tine together! I'm getting pretty bored and lonely now! Especially sitting up all night as well on my own when hubby sleeps downstairs!
Were also thinking of going away next weekend to the caravan in abersoch which is three hours away! Not quite so sure now but have promised the hires we can go to the beach before we go back to school!
We have a cleaner deo, they only do Tuesday but it's enough to then potter and keep onto of things till the following week. I should imagine with 5 boys it's hard work! Maybe when the kids have gone back to school you can transfer your funds to cleaning. As soon as I'm better it'll stop but am enjoying it for now!
As for the evenings with ewan, I'm all out of ideas and am struggling to function with little sleep! Got the kids aswell today so no nap for me :(
